Linaria has just finished helping the Seathi Squad on s small rescue. There was a foal that got trapped inside a clam and everyone knows that clams don’t like to open their shells once they’ve been closed. So it was imperative for her and her sister Maura to get in there. It was tough with their smaller size. But that also gives them an advantage. Maura was able to get the hole wide enough for Linaria to slip in and prop up some reef inside and with both of their efforts they were able to keep the shell open enough for the Mer foal to escape. And then she took the coral out with her. It was a good shining moment for Linaria. But she shied away from the attention.

While her sister was answering questions and basking, she took the opportunity to make a break for it. She wanted to leave all that behind her. It really wasn’t in her nature to be serious all the time, but she looked up to her sister and wanted to help her with what she wanted to do in her life. And that made her happy. But now dancing her way through the water streams she felt as if there was nothing standing in her way, she could go about enjoying the beauty of the sea floor in the cove and just enjoy the rest of the day.

But the seathi started to slow down as she realized that she always spent her time alone when it wasn’t official Seathi Squad business. She had met that one Mer a short while back and every so often popped over to say hello to him but he didn’t really care to have her hang around much. The violet colored mare stopped and looked around some. Well that certainly put a damper on things. She frowned looked down for a moment and then shrugged. Couldn’t be helped right?

She pushed the thought from her mind and went about her dancing. The current pulling her around the cove. The water was pleasantly warm as she drifted toward the surface. As she broke the surface her usually billowing hair flattened against her head. The greens looked odd on the surface. They changed color from green to reds, yellows and oranges. She tilted her head and admired the colors, they were rather pretty. The waters vegetation didn’t really change much with the seasons. But the temperature did change, it would get colder, darker and the currents a bit more harsh. Or at least that’s what she was told. She was still young herself and this was her first Autumn.

She ducked back under, feeling weightless against and started swimming back toward the cove’s floor.

It had been roughly a week since Lage and his familiar companion had felt the briny waters of the sea against their skin. Somehow, the tiny seathi had convinced Kallan that they should swim up-river for a bit of adventure and new scenery. It ended up being a bit of a disaster, really. Neither had been aware of exactly how muddy water could actually get, but they quickly learned as they found themselves in a swamp. And, if you asked Kallan, nothing smelled quite so foul as those murky waters. Neither could count the number of times they'd nearly run into the roots of a tree any more. Who had ever heard of trees growing out of the water anyways? The worst part is that the only residents they had come across were some rather hostile gators.

The pair of them were happy to be in the more welcoming vastness of the ocean again. Lage took some time to simply enjoy drifting on the gentle currents near the surface while his seal friend swam off to get something to eat that didn't taste like mud. It was then he noticed something not too far off. A small spot of violet in the deep blue. He watched it float about for a moment, but soon he realized that it wasn't just a piece of coral caught up in the currents. No, it moved much too elegantly for that. It was very clearly another seathi!

He felt the excitement swell. After days and days of not having the company of anyone other than Kallan, this was a welcomed sight. And Lage hoped he was too, hoped there weren't leaves and mud and an unpleasant smell clinging to him. That certainly wouldn't make for a great first impression. He had to double check, just to be sure, and was thankful he did as he pulled a strange, dried up urchin-looking thing from his mane. Convinced that was the best he could do, Lage gave a flick of his tail and headed off towards the violet seathi. He didn't worry about losing Kallan. The seal always knew how to find him, somehow.

As he drew near he called out, trying to get their attention, "Hello there! Good afternoon. How are you doing?" He gave a genuine smile, which faltered only slightly as he took in the mare's- at least he was pretty sure this was a mare- features. She was definitely a seathi, that much he could be certain of. But there were strange, coral-like protrusions from her forehead and, well not to be rude but her ears were quite large. Not that there was anything wrong with that! They were just rather unusual features and they caught him a bit off guard. She was still quite cute.

AS YOU SHOULD BE DX DX!!! But I do need at least one more post from you so I can get another 250 for stats this month!

As Linaria pushed her way through the water she stopped abruptly and blinked over in the direction of the voice. She didn’t see anything at first but as the other drew closer she started to notice the darker stallion. He was colored just like the ocean. It was odd; she had a lot of trouble taking her eyes off him. Her mind was telling her to keep going but her body didn’t want to listen. Her ears twitched toward him in curiosity. Was he talking to her? She glanced around to see if there was someone else he could be talking too but there wasn’t anyone else there… She straightened herself up and swept her tail under her as he approached.

“Well hello there~” She chimmed at him. He really did blend in will with the ocean. “I-I’m doing well… How a-are you?” She smiled at him as he got closer. He seemed nice enough, nothing to really be worried about. Once he was closer she moved to swim around him, taking in his coloring. Her tail sliding along his back before she moved to float in front of him. Her ears perked up and leaned forward as she looked directly at him. Her horns vanishing under her flowing mane.

“I hadn’t realized there any anyone else around today. I’m sorry if I disrupted you or wandered into your territory. I’m still a bit new to the area.” She smiled again at him more sweetly this time, before she leaned forward to touch her nose to his. “I’m Linaria!”

Lage smiled widely as the mare took notice of him and responded to his greeting. This one seemed much more friendly than the inhabitants of the swamp, thankfully. Much more friendly. As her tail brushed against his back he shivered slightly, giving a very quiet whinny in response, "Ah, uh, well..." He laughed nervously at himself, "That's good! I'm glad you're, uh...doing well." Well, if that wasn't a complete train wreck.

He coughed, trying to get himself back on track, "My territory? Oh! No, no! This isn't my territory. I actually just came from the swamp. Not that I live there! I was just visiting. Adventuring!" Yes. Right back on track. Even the most suave of soquili would be envious of how smooth Lage was being right now. He tried to return her smile, which ended up being as awkward as you would expect it to. It would seem more like he'd been in the swamp, away from the contact of others, for months after that poor excuse for social interaction. There was one last chance to redeem himself.

"I'm Lage." Good start, "And I'm pretty familiar with the area, if you need help finding your way around..."

The mare tilted her head some as her tail slowly flexed under her, swishing back and forth to keep her afloat. She was wondering why the stallion seemed so nervous. He had certainly looked strong and confident enough. Ooh, maybe he was just shy around mares. Her ears gave a twitch and she watched him, not noticing an awkward smile at all the mare swam in closer to him. “I’m happy to hear that Lage! I was so worried. The last thing I wanted to do was make anyone mad by invading their territory. I just wanted to see the color change on the surface.”

As her hair flowed in the water, weightless she nodded eagerly. “I would really appreciate that. I haven’t seen nearly enough of the area. And as a member of the Seathi squad, my sister says I need to be able to get to the locations quickly for assistance.” Being a part of the squad was one of the only thing that kept her grounded so to speak. Otherwise she would be off in a day dream and just wandering around looking at all the pretty things.

Linaria swam around the stallion again in her excitement. She let her nose touch his ear before she started to swim off back toward the area where the others lived. “Better hurry up if you don’t want to be left behind!” She teased him, sticking her tongue out, knowing he would follow, turning to watch where she was swimming.

This mare was so fast paced, Lage wasn't sure he'd be able to keep up with her. Conversationally speaking, that is. It was actually rather refreshing. After so long without any contact with other Soquili, the energy she brought exhilarating and made him feel pumped up to do something. Anything. It didn't matter what, he was ready to do it. But for now maybe it was best to just try and follow Linaria's line of conversation as best he could.

The first thing to note was this change of colors she mentioned. For a moment Lage really had no clue what she was talking about. The surface of the ocean didn't usually change color. Not unless being covered in leaves counted as a color change. And that thought put all of his other thoughts on the right track. The color of the leaves. Of course that's what she meant. And now that he knew exactly what she was talking about, it was good to know. Through his travels around the bodies of water connected to the ocean he he found countless places that had very vibrant colors during the change in season. He would have to show her some of the closer locations. It was lucky for him that she was already on to her next line of thought before he could say something stupid. He was undoubtedly already looking pretty ridiculous just sitting there gawking at her in silence.

Unfortunately, this next point in the conversation left him even more confused. Enough so to make him wordlessly mouth seathi squad? only to have his mind do another backflip at the mention of a sister. They had known each other for no more than five minutes now and already he had so many questions for her. But those would all have to wait because as her nose brushed his ear all thought fled and then she was off in an instant.

"H-Hey! Hold up!" Well, if he couldn't keep up with her when it came to conversation, at least he could keep up with her when it came to swimming. Or maybe she was just letting him catch up to her. She did seem like the playful, flirty type. Not that Lage was complaining. His ego could use a little bit of inflating. And now that he was swimming next to her he could finally ask some of those questions that had suddenly returned along with his composure.

"So, ah...What's this Seathi Squad you mentioned? Something you and your....sister?-" It was very obviously a question. Lage was hoping beyond hope that it would clue her in on the fact that he was interested in hearing more about this sister, "are a part of?"

Sorry! I completely forgot about the rp DX DX

When Lage caught up with her she happily swam. He was a good swimmer that would be helpful getting her from location to location. Her sister was so much more responsible. But she couldn't leave everything up to her sister. She needed to be part of the team, what would happen if her sister got hurt on the job and Linaria was lost somewhere. That would never good! Now she had a friend she could be with all the time that would help her out!

"Yes! My sister has always wanted to help out those in need. So She volunteered me to be a part of her team and we go around helping others from dangers and other such things." She smiled at him, "It's really something she wants to do but I love my sister and so I want to help her but I'm really not all that helpful. I'm not as strong as her. She says that my head is always in the sea foam (Like head in the clouds)." She looped around Lage. "Which by the way only happened once!" She mumbled more quietly. "I just wanted to see what was in there..."

She figured that Lage would like her sister, I mean she liked her sister so it was just natural right? She simply couldn't wait to show off her new friend! She was already imagining all the fun they would have together. In her excitement she took another swim around him and laughed happily. "Oh goodness me, it appears I forgot where I was going to take you." Her ears drooped some and she sighed. This happened to her often. Her speed started to slow... It was kind of embarrassing. But she just lost her train of thought all together. Was she suppose to take him to meet her sister? But her sister was off doing something else. So, where was she taking him? Did she even had a destination in mind.

She let her eyes fall on him again and she stared warmly but with a pout. The current pulled at her but she kept her place and moved a hoof toward him. "So uh... What do you want to do now?" She gave him a sheepish smile. It was a good place to try and recover from. Maybe he would know? But if she didn't tell him where she was taking him how would he know? Maybe he could read her mind! Ooh what fun that could be. But it wasn't likely. Linaria laughed again at her own silliness. As they had moved from the surface the water cooled and it became darker. She did like the reef areas more because of the light that came from the above the surface.

"Oh, I see! you're a bit of a rescue team, then. That's wonderful. The sea, as beautiful as it can be at times, isn't always the safest place." Lage knew that first hand. He thought back on the day he had bonded with his familiar. A shark- or possibly just a very large fish, he hadn't taken the time to look- nearly swallowed him whole. Thankfully, the seal Kallan had come along and chased whatever it was off. Ever since, the two hardly spent time apart. If Lage was seen seemingly by himself, it was a safe bet to assume that Kallan was lurking around somewhere. The seal always kept an eye on his small Seathi friend, even while hunting. This sudden jolt in his memory made Lage wonder where exactly his familiar was hiding at this moment. He couldn't see him anywhere, but Kallan was undoubtedly close by.

And in any case, Lage had someone else to keep up with currently. Someone who, it seemed, couldn't even keep up with herself. The little mare must have forgotten that he was supposed to be the one showing her the reef. Not the other way around. The friendly, but slightly confused expression on her face was endearing. Lage couldn't just tell her that the plan all along was for him to lead. Best to let her hold on to some shred of dignity and believe that things were still going well. Which, really they were. He enjoyed her free-spirit and abundance of energy. It was a nice change from the mostly laid back trip to the swamp he's just returned from. And her childish behavior set the bar a little lower for the maturity levels. It meant Lage could relax and laugh a little. Which he did. It was hard not to with such an upbeat companion.

"Well, maybe we could go to the kelp beds. That's where my family makes their home in the winter. Obviously they won't be there right now...But it would be nice to see the beds anyways!" He'd checked in with his family just before his adventure into the swamp. Of course it would be nice to let them know he was alive and well after that little journey, but they didn't need to see him right away. Besides, if he brought a mare into their territory they would immediately jump to conclusions and ask unnecessary and embarrassing questions. Lage was enjoying Linaria's company far too much to let his family scare her away so soon. Maybe some other day. For now, he was happy to let it be just the two of them, and Kallan where ever he was. He wiggled his way out of her perpetual circling and motioned for her to follow, "Come on. They're over this way."

I'm sorry DX

Linaria watched him, again never taking her eyes away from him. There was something about him for sure. She nodded in agreement to the sea not always be the safest of places. She really shouldn't have been alone but she hasn't found herself a familiar friend yet. She would really need to work on that sooner rather than later. Buuuut it could wait because now she had a new friend she wants to explore and play around with. Lage had been so nice! And he didn't miss a beat when she lost track of what they were going to do. She couldn't believe she had forgotten what they were going to do. Though again, not the first time...

"Oooh, I haven't been there yet! That would be nice to see. So your family lives there in the winter? Do they migrate for some reason?" She asked. She and her sister had been on their own moving all the time she wasn't all that sure what their breed did. But it never stopped them from doing whatever it was they did best. But... if Lage's family migrated how come he didn't migrate with them? She frowned to herself as Lage slipped from the circle she had been swimming around him to start leading them toward the Kelpi bed. She floated for a moment, letting her eyes follow him before she moved to follow after. She swam lazy circles around him. To anyone else they might view what she was doing as a waste of energy. But she plenty of it to spare so he helped keep her in check. She didn't need to scare off her new friends by exploding with energy. It was something that her sister had taught her.

"So you said earlier that you had gone to the swamp? Was there a reason you went there? I heard that swamps weren't well suited for our kind with stall and thick waters?" She ear gave a twitch as she followed after him. She never went to a swamp before and wasn't sure she ever wanted too after hearing the stories she did. The water would ruin the color of her pelt which she quiet liked. Her tail beat as she followed Lage. "Are there other horses that live in the swamp? Like LIKE SWAMP PONIES?!" The idea both excited and terrified her. She couldn't help but envision a hillbilly version of seathi living in the swamp and she gave a shiver and she swamp in closer to Lage, letting her side touch his. Something about the idea of Swamp Ponies scared Linaria, her silvery violet eyes looked to Lage. Did she want to know the truth now? But if he didn't learn the truth then she would always be wondering.

It was genuinely invigorating to be around someone with so much energy. Others might find it exhausting or even annoying to share such company, but Lage felt such a surge of adventure building up in him. Even though he had just returned from one adventure already. Even though he'd had his mind on a quiet evening recovering from the trip. The little mare put a spark back in him that made him want to go ride a strong current or venture into the darker parts of the ocean. But it might be best if they stuck to the kelp beds for the time being. There was a big difference between feeling like you have the energy to do something dangerous, and actually having it. No doubt he'd remember quite quickly how tired his journey to the swamp really made him.

And there was plenty to do right where he was. Like answer lots of questions. "Yes, the migrate. The waters are warmer towards the south in the winter. And the selection of food is a little more tasteful too. It's a pretty big herd, so they can afford to move around without anything too dangerous happening. They've taken the same route for decades now, they know where the water's safest for travel." Lage himself had taken the same path many times as well. Before being separated from the herd and eventually meeting Kallan, the seathi had always stuck very close to his family herd. He could practically make their yearly circuit around the ocean with his eyes closed. Nowadays he didn't see much of his family though. Lage was too busy exploring other waters. Which led to Linaria's next set of questions.

"The waters are a little stifling, it's true. Everything's rather stagnant and a lot of plants and algae grow there. But I love to visit new places, so I enjoyed how vastly different it is from the ocean. It's sort of what I do...Travel around and see what things are like more inland. It's pretty fun. I've met a lot of interesting Soquili." His expression feel though. "Didn't meet anyone in the swamp, however. I hear they can be kind of aloof. Guess I just came at a bad time. Or didn't stick around long enough. I'll have to try again another time. Maybe you could come along too."

He flashed her a friendly grin. How exciting would it be to have a traveling companion? Of course, he had Kallan but that wasn't quite the same. Kallan didn't really talk much and always got distracted by just about everything. The seal only really seemed to pay attention when Lage occasionally got himself into trouble. It would be nice to have someone around who could actually appreciate all the sights a new place had to offer.

Linaria slowed her pace to swim next to Lage. She need t try and reign herself in so that she could actually pay attention to what he was saying. It would be very rude of her to ask questions and then ignore the responses. But she had so much energy all she wanted to do was swim as top speed.

"So you no longer migrate with your herd so that you can go and see new places?" She asked him, her silver eyes finding his. "That seems brave! And fun. I want to see all the different places. But my sister doesn't really believe in traveling for fun. She's very serious about business. she would say.." Linaria takes on an impression voice of her sister "What would everyone do if we left? Who would help out when they are in need?" the violet mare gave a giggle and sighed. "It's not that I don't like helping out but I want to live my life too and I want to see what else is out there." Her manner became serious for a moment but then it vanished as she swam a circle around him.

"There was no one there? I thought there were a lot horses that lives in the swamps?" She titled her head some and pondered." "Well then again maybe I just made that up in my own mind..." She laughed and moved to swim backwards so that she could look at him.

Her eyes widened and she gasped. "Mee~? Really? You'd take me with yoooou~?" She grinned at him happily. "Oh yes yes yes! I would love to explore with you." She started imagining trips they would take together. Her mind was running wild it all the possibilities. But then, she thought of her sister. She would have to deal with a guilt trip from her. But her sister was much better the Seathi squad business then she ever would be. As a matter of fact she did most of the work anyways.

"Just tell me when and I'm there!" The seathi mare watched him before she turned back around. "The kelpi beds should be just ahead right? What do you want to do when we get there?" As she said that looking at him, she swamp right into a piece of kelpi and got herself caught up. "Well I guess I answered my own question~" She laughed and wiggled some trying to get herself unstuck. "Uh... Do you mind?" She reached her front hoof out for him, hopefully with his pulling and her pushing she could get herself out. So this was the kelpi beds Lage had talked about. She certainly hadn't seen anything like them before, and she was excited to explore them!

"Well, I only have the courage to leave the ocean thanks to Kallan. I know I'm safe with him around. He's always got my back." Lage knew the number of times the seal had kept him out of harms way was a lot bigger than he thought. Sure, Kallan had a cute face when he was friendly. But even just a flash of those sharp teeth was enough to make most second guess any ill intents they might have had. And those that didn't second guess got to see the business end of those teeth. Whenever the seal went hunting it was always a stark reminder that he could easily shred Lage to pieces if he wanted to. Lucky for Lage that wasn't something he had to worry about. They were the best of friends. Kallan would never dream of hurting Lage.

But that was rather dark thinking and this was a much lighter conversation the two seathi were having. No need to drag the mood down with unnecessary thoughts. Lage laughed at the- what he assumed was -rather exaggerated imitation of Linaria's sister. "Well, hey! It sounds like the two of you have something pretty interesting going with this Seathi Squad. I'm sure you'll have plenty of others joining you soon enough. Then you'll have so many members they'll be begging you to leave just so the ocean isn't so crowded." He grinned playfully but it twisted into a disappointed pout at her question about the emptiness of the swamp.

"I was stuck to just the water-" for obvious reasons, "so maybe they were all more inland and I missed everyone. And even some of the waterways were so shallow I couldn't go in them. I was pretty limited. I'm sure there are plenty of Soquili that live there, I just have to try harder to find them next time." It really was his least successful venture yet. But there would definitely be a next time and with any luck it would go much better.

"Yeah! Why not? An adventure is always more fun with company. I was planning to swim up to the lake near the two-legs' village next. I've been there before, but I've made a couple friends there. And I was thinking about seeing how far up-river I could get in a few days." The excitement was really starting to rub off on him now too. Planning a new trip was always exciting, but planning one with a friend even more so.

The whole time Lage was looking off into the distance, watching the dark patch of kelp grow ever larger as the approached it. He was waiting for an opportunity to present the kelp beds to her. To welcome her to his home. But she was quite the chatterbug and he was certain she had noticed them by the time they were only a few feet away. He should have known better. He couldn't get a word of warning out in time and now she was tangled in the thick forest of slimy, green strands of algae. Lage laughed a little apologetically and grabbed her hoof between his, pulling. "Well, welcome to the kelp beds, I guess! Don't worry, you'll learn how to navigate them pretty quickly."
