Niflheim had cautioned the moment he realized that Nellie was taking up another offer to spar over Twitter within a few hours of the first one with Melvin. He tried again when it was apparent that his earlier words had fallen onto deaf ears.

Nellie shook her head. She wasn't really sure what had exactly come over her either. She was perpetually tired with how little sleep she had been getting since the mission and how tense she had been as of late. She wasn't anywhere near her best at the moment yet she had felt compelled to take up Peyton on her offer now that the Sun was offering lest she lost an opportunity to work on improving her combat capability. Niflheim wouldn't understand any of that - how much getting stronger in the shortest possible time meant to her right now. She would go through this first then there would be time to rest and recover. Hopefully.

She glanced down at her watch just as she reached the training ground to check on the time. 1 pm exactly. Good. It certainly wouldn't do for her to be late. Taking a deep breath and then slowly exhaling, she looked around to see if she could spot the Sun Huntress.

Poor Nellie, Peyton's training services were always available to anyone that need wanted the assistance. It was encompassed by the specialty she was working towards.

Well, either way, Nellie had taken her up on her offer now, so Peyton was happy to oblige. She headed out to the training field at the designated time, smile in place. "Hello Nellie!" She'd only ever talked to the other girl over twitter, but she recognized that long dark hair from her picture. "What sort of training are you looking for? Offensive or defensive?" She could help with both!

Nellie had a pretty good idea somewhat of how much she needed to work on if she hoped to work her way up the ranks towards becoming a full-fledged Hunter some day. There were probably other Hunters like Peyton whom she could approach, various resources that she could tap on to address her needs and inadequacies but being new and hence not knowing her way around Deus meant that some time was inevitably lost in settling in and finding her way around in any case.

Still, chatting with people over Twitter and then meeting up with them was a start that the Mist trainee had recently found that she could work on.

"H-Hi Peyton. Thanks for offering to help Nellie with this." She smiled at Peyton, making sure to thank her first lest she forgot to do so entirely later on. Pausing briefly to ponder over her options, she decided to go with offense first. After all, that was what Suns did best plus she really didn't want to be helpless or useless when caught in a combat situation in the future. "Nellie's thinking of working on offensive for a start unless Peyton thinks that that isn't a good idea?" She was open to any suggestion that the Sun Huntress might have even after having made known her choice. Peyton was the more experienced hunter between the both of them at the end of the day after all.

"No problem! That's my job, sort of." She grinned, bright and cheery. "It will be, anyways, I'm working on a training specialty," So opportunities like these were sort of priceless for her. It also let her get to know the newer recruits that were waking up left and right on the island. As time went by there were more and more of them.

"Offensive is a good thing to start with. They're both important, but if yo can build up a good offensive base, then you'll be able to work efficiently with a defensive partner. Pey was all about team work.

She summoned Warrick, fingers squeezing over the duel hands. "So here's how it's gunna work. I'm going to start out only defending myself, while you try to attack me, okay?" Arms up, she slid into a defensive stance, ready and waiting. "No holding back, pretend like I'm a scary monster and I'm trying to eat you."

"Training specialty?"

That sounded like something new to Nellie, an inquisitive tone in the Mist trainee's voice now as she posed a question back to Peyton in the hope of learning more about it. Listening attentively to what the Sun had to say about teaming up with someone and working together efficiently, she nodded a few times. "Got it. Those in Moon are supposed to be more defensive so that means that Nellie should train with someone from there too right?" Her cousin Lilac was a Moon which meant that she shouldn't have any problems at all with finding someone from Moon to work with.

Summoning Niflheim to herself, she gave Peyton a nod to acknowledge her instructions, falling silent now in order to compose herself for the training session that was about to start. Clenching her fingers tightly together to form a fist, she headed straight for the Sun huntress before swinging her fist at her, only to have it miss entirely and result in her tripping over herself from the resultant momentum.

"Oh, yes! I'm going into combat training as my Hunter specialty, so I'm always available for training of most kinds." She grinned, resting the urge to rock back on her heels, and held her defensive stance. At the second question she gave a nod. "Mmhmm, it would definitely be a good idea to seek out a more experienced Moon for more division specific training. Also, it would be good to look into what sort of Moon you want to be. Some are more combat supportive, and will usually back a Sun in battle. Some are more medic oriented." Peyton's two best friends happened to encompass both realms.

Now Nellie was moving forward, and Peyton let her breath out slow, controlled. Another fist weapon, she knew those well. It was easy to dip to the side, to dodge the gauntlet that came flying towards her shoulder.

Bouncing on her toes, she turned, keeping her back away from the other girl. "You should try to get in closer. Make fast, powerful jabs. It'll b more controlled, and your center of balance will stay under your feet."

"Got it. Are all Hunters supposed to have a training specialty then?" Stumbling forward a few steps as a result of her earlier momentum, Nellie flailed a few times and eventually managed to regain her balance. Turning back to look at Peyton, she nodded a few times at her advice as she brought her arms up and rolled her shoulders. "Right. Um... what about a Mist then? What does Peyton think a Mist should be good at?"

Charging towards the Sun Huntress yet again, she tried to get in closer before striking out with her fists, only to have them fall short of even reaching the more experienced Huntress given her newfound concern, which she vocalised right now, of getting up close to her target. "But... that also means that the enemy will be able to hit Nellie harder right? What if the enemy uses a weapon that has a longer range and Nellie is unable to get close enough as Peyton had suggested?"

"Not necessarily training in particular, but a specialty is encouraged. Usually not until you have reached full rank, so you have plenty of time to decide." A few skips to the side helped the Sun avoid those flailing gauntlets, and she'd smile, reassuringly. "Mists should be good at all things. Instead of excelling and merely one. You guys can fill every role in a pinch."

As Nellie set into a charge, Peyton brought Warrick up once again, defensive, though not wholy needed as a heavy handed strike fell short and sent the Mist reeling.

"Yes, but that is were good defense comes in handy. If your opponent is using something witha longer range, then they are most likely at a disadvantage if you can keep close. Their range will count for nothing."

"That's still a long shot as far as where Nellie stands at the moment. Has Peyton been around for long?" The Mist pulled back a little, taking a moment to stretch each of her arms out in front of her in turn to gauge how far she could reach before hopping back a few times to smile at Peyton. The Sun Huntress wielded a pair of ringed daggers, Nellie observed. While those weren't exactly the same type of weapon as the gauntlets that Niffy was, their range were somewhat similar which meant that so long as Nellie kept her eyes trained on Peyton's actions for each round, there might be a couple of moves that she could potentially pick up from the more experienced hunter and eventually adapt to suit her style.

"Everything seems like a lot to handle though. Nellie wouldn't know where to start or how to go about it." She verbalised her concern, pulling her arms back up before sprinting towards the Sun yet again. Defend, get in closer then strike. It helped that Peyton was merely on the defensive so she need not have to worry about parrying the other's blades till she was within range to unleash her attack, her fist swinging in an uppercut till it was met with resistance.

She gave a small smile at the progress she was making nonetheless. "Nellie thinks... Nellie's starting to get the hang of this."

Another reassuring smile at that. "You'll get there, don't worry." Nellie's pause allowed one for Peyton as well, and she stilled, watching keenly as the Mist took a moment to stretch her arms. There was no rush, this wasn't a traditional spar, but a training exercise. "I've been here for a little over two years now." Nellie was smart to keep her eye on her opponent in this case. It was wise in general, but it would help her pick up a few things, learning by observation. Watching those with a similar weapon and style was always a good idea.

Pey waited until after Nellie had charged her, knocking the blow away with a swing of her fist, before answering those concerns. "It is, but it gets easier as time goes on. By the time you need to start worrying about all that, you'll have been here quite a while yourself, gathered your own experiences."

Small hands came up again, blades at the ready. "You're doing great. Keep it up."

"Nellie hopes so." Backing up a little, Nellie smiled at Peyton as she went over in her head how the Sun had defended herself. She ought to be able to land a hit on her opponent so long as she kept what Peyton had told her in mind - get in close then hit hard and fast. The question now was how exactly she should go about breaking her opponent's defence if he or she chose to do only that.

"So... what's the average lifespan of most hunters here?" Did hunters who completed the training and had been around as long as Peyton lose some of their friends at some point to the creatures that they were trained to fight? Nellie had been wondering about that for some time.

Charging the Sun huntress again, she struck out in the exact same manner as what she had done previously, waiting for Peyton to deflect the blow before turning slightly to swing her other fist towards her side.

"Well," she started, smile slipping a bit. This wasn't the light conversation from a moment before, but something harder. Peyton had been lucky, the hunters that had passed in her time on the island had not been ones the Sun had been terribly close to. Their deaths hurt, but not as much as they could have. "That's a tricky question. It depends on a great many things. Strength, survival instinct, and luck. Though you won't see many older hunters, that's for sure. This is a dangerous line of work."

As Nellie darted forward again Peyton slipped back, left arm lifting to push the gauntlet to the side, but not quite fast enough. It graced her shoulder, leeched a bit of fear in passing. Not painful, but it was still progress. "Good. Like that."

She was making progress - that much Nellie was sure of based on what she could see and feel after each blow she traded with Peyton. This wasn't anything like a real battle. This was a controlled environment for her to learn the ropes and build her foundation on, all of which would eventually culminate into the ultimate test on the actual battlefield when the lives of her and many others would be at stake.

"That's true. It's a hazardous job but someone still has to do it." She concurred with another swing, still unable to successfully get past the Sun's defence. "Still, there're some people who look like they've been around for a while." She paused for a moment then before following up with what she thought was an obvious example to back what she said.

"Like the Division Leads."

Peyton nodded. "Like the division leads." They'd been around the longest, that was certainly true. They were also tough as nails--scary tough--and half crazy, she was positive.

Nellie came at her again, and Pey moved to push the blade of her dagger up under the palm of the gauntlet that came towards her, deflecting it. Really, the Mist was doing quite well, Peyton was just more experienced, and her weapon bond made her faster and stronger than the other girl.

"How's about after this next round I get a little serious, give you a taste of what to expect in a real fight?"

Other than Lance the Mist division lead whom Nellie had a chance to interact with briefly during the rather informal division meeting that took place last year and seemed pretty normal enough, the Mist trainee could only assume ignorantly that the other division leads were more or less the same, doing what they did in the best interest of the organization as the leaders of the respective divisions that it was made up of. Nothing that time and cumulative personal experience couldn't help to change really.

She watched keenly the way with which Peyton skilfully deflected the blow she had sent the Sun huntress' way, backing up a bit as she spared a brief moment to ponder over how she could work to overcome that. < You could go faster or change your aim preemptively. > Niflheim helpfully supplied.

Nellie nodded, charging towards Peyton again while lowering her aim this time, trying to see if she could in doing so disarm her opponent. She still had quite a lot of things to work on when it came to hand to hand combat. With time and practice and pointers from hunters like Peyton who were way more experienced than herself, she was sure that she would eventually find something that would both suit and serve her well. It was with that thought in mind that Nellie directed a determined look at the older huntress and nodded to indicate her acceptance of her proposal to take the spar to another level.

"Okie."
