Urusai sifted his claw through the sand, only half paying attention. It had been a few days since he had seen Ysa, and it was starting to get to him. He would give anything to have someone to talk to that could talk back. Sure, he had Myujikku, but he never really talked back. Plus, Uru had sent him out over the water to look for any signs of Ysa. Uru looked over the water as sand fell from his claw. No sign of either of them.

It had been many moons since Paolo had been washed out of his former home and out into the world. It had felt strange at first returning to his old life. There were no rules out here. No one kept an eye on him and made sure he was always where he was supposed to be. Most days there had been no one around to speak to at all. He had grown tired of solitude and started heading to more populated areas.
He had found that continuing to follow the river downstream, away from the flock, lead him closer to other soquili. To some extent he felt as though he were betraying the kindness of the mares of the flock. They had taken him in and cared for his injuries when by all rights he should have died. They had given him a place to stay, food to eat, and even allowed him to work. Despite all of their kindness, though, the freedom offered out here was hard to turn down. There would be difficulties, he might even end up near death again, but it felt worth it.
The day had brought Paolo out far from his old home. He couldn't quite believe what he was seeing. Stretched out before was seemingly endless water. The scent of brine washed over him as a breeze came inland. Never before had Paolo witnessed such splendor. He walked along the shore, keeping several feet away from the breaking tide at all times, just drinking in the view. His eyes drifted slightly away from the water and back to the sandy shore.
He had to do a double take at what he saw. There was a creature sharing the shore with him that was stranger than anything Paolo had ever seen in his life. Paolo found himself gawking rudely and stupidly at the stranger. How had so many colors and patterns ended up on a single hide? It boggled his mind to the point of entirely forgetting that he was an intelligent creature entirely capable of speech.ladyfirefox89 ((I don't get quote notifications. Just so you know.))

For a while, Urusai had been mesmerized by the constant sound of waves breaking, and the soft sound of sand falling from his claw. His thoughts seemed to have washed away with the waves till all that was left was a quiet yearning for his friends.
A gull broke his peacful state. Could Ysa have come back using the beach? His face lit, turning to see who the gull had cried out to. Only to see a male staring at the water behind him. Or.... was the male staring at him?
Uru stared back, slightly confused. Did he have something in his wings? Or on his face? Maybe he had some sand he hadn't felt. Uru stared a little closer, amazed at all the trinkets this new male had adorned himself with. It was possible he had run into the mare that Uru had made trinkets for. What was her name? Kararti, thats right.
Maybe this male had heared of him and had come seeking for new trinkets. It was a farfetched idea, but at least one that would take his mind off of what could have happened to Ysa and Myujjiku. He knew they could both take care of themselves, it was just hard being without her.
Uru took a deep breath to center himself. He put a smile on his face and walked over to the stallion who wore such intricate trinkets. "Were you looking for me?"

Paolo came back to himself when he realized the other was moving...towards him. The white stallion quickly composed himself as best as he could having been caught staring. He returned the smile offered by the other male with ease. At the very least he didn't seem to be offended which would make this exchange much less awkward. Or, at least, Paolo hoped it would.
"Looking for you?" Paolo tilted his head slightly uncertain if he had heard correctly. "No...I wasn't." At least so far as he knew. Had he made someone a promise to visit this stallion and forgotten it? That seemed entirely unlikely but not altogether impossible. More likely he was expecting someone else. "Were you waiting for someone? I may have passed them on my way here..." He offered hoping to be of some service still.

Urusai chuckled a little awkwardly. "Oh." "I'm sorry. It's just that I make trinkets from things found near and in the sea. And when I saw your magnificent collection, I thought you might have passed someone on your way that was wearing some I made and possibly asked where you could acquire some for yourself......." He trailed off, realizing how full of himself he had been for thinking anyone would have traveled any length just to receive one of his trinkets. He had only made one trinket besides all the ones for Ysa. It would be very unlikely many would be interested enough when actually seeing it to ask where they could find something like it.
Urusai gave a soft nervous cough then nodded. "I am waiting for my love and my familiar to come back. Ysa, my love went out into the sea half a week ago looking for supplies for my trinkets. And a few days ago I sent Myujikku out to search for her. Myu is a condor that resembles me. And Ysa is a blue spotted kelpi adorned with shells." His eyes lit at the possibility this stranger might have seen either of them. "Do you think you might have crossed paths?"

Paolo couldn't help but feel a little guilty that he had not come out to see this stallion's work. It was ridiculous to feel bad over such a thing but he couldn't quite help it. Clearly this fellow was proud of his work. "I'm afraid I really was just walking, but I'd love to see your trinkets if you have a moment to spare." He offered amicably.
As for the other subject Paolo needed to strain his brain to think. He had heard of a kelpi before and seen a few in his days. He couldn't remember seeing a blue spotted one though. Presumably she would be somewhere close to where he was if they were lovers. Lovers weren't known to stray far from each other if it could be helped at all. The heart wouldn't allow for it. As for the condor, he had never even heard the word before but he almost certainly would recall having seen another creature that looked like this fellow.
"I don't think I've seen either of them...but if I do run into them would you like me to direct them back to you?" It was the best that he could offer. ladyfirefox89 ((I'm so sorry for the delay. Work's kinda kicking my a** more than usual since we're getting ready for the holidays.))

Urusai couldn't help but feel a little sad that this stallion didn't know of his work. Though, it couldn't really be helped since Urusai kept most of his work for Ysa. He had never really met anyone who wanted to trade for it. Really, he hadn't seen many others since coming to this beach with Ysa. And since his re-connection with her after the boat crash, he never felt a reason to leave the beach. He pondered a few seconds, thinking of actually seeking out others to buy or at least want the trinkets he made.
He smiled at Paolo. "My collection of finished items are actually more this way if you don't mind following me. Its not far. Just over to the bottom of that cliff over there." Uru's claw lifted and curled in the direction of a cliff just 500 feet away. "I'm actually quite proud of the little showcase I made."
As they started walking over, the sand squishing between his claws, Uru responded to the second part of Paolo's statement. "I would greatly appreciate it. I mean, I know she was able to survive the ship wreck, so I am sure she could survive most anything else." He paused as he looked out to sea once more. "I just worry is all." He gave a little smile to Paolo "And with Myu gone, there really isn't much to distract me." He chuckled slightly "In fact, I've almost run out of my trinket making supplies. So when she does come back, I hope it is with much more supplies."

Paolo did not mind traveling a bit further but at the word 'cliff' he hesitated. He had fallen from a cliff in the storm that had brought him out into the world. While he wasn't necessarily scared of heights they still made him feel a bit anxious. It wasn't until Paolo realized that they weren't going to be on top of the cliff but beneath it that he was able to relax. He followed after the strange fellow easily after.
"A ship wreck?" He inquired quietly. Paolo wasn't sure what a ship was but he knew what the word wreck was and it couldn't mean anything good. "I'm sure they'll come back soon enough." He said casting a reassuring smile toward the other male. "If you're looking for distractions, have you considered looking for other materials to make things from? Things you could collect yourself?" It seemed like an obvious solution to Paolo. If he was looking for something to occupy his time and was also running out of supplies, it was a quick fix to both problems. Time always flew by when there was something around to occupy the mind.

Urusai hadn't noticed the stiffness in the males body language when he had mentioned the cliff. He was too excited to show off his showcase and had already turned to the cliff, ready to start walking if he agreed. Which Uru was happy to hear when Paolo did.
Uru nodded. "Oh, don't worry, it was quite a while ago. When Ysa and I were both still foals. It has been a few years now. It is how we came to this land. We were supposed to be sold here to raise money for our previous master to keep his farm. But the day before we were to land, there was a mighty storm. And our ship crashed on the rocks." Urusai paused before saying the next part. It still pained him to think of it. Quietly, he continued. "I had to bury a few friends once I woke up...... At least I did wake up." He shook his head, trying to get the images dislodged. "Anyhow, when I woke up, Ysa was nowhere to be seen. So I assumed she had been lost in the ship wreck." He turned to Paolo with a smile "Lucky for me, she wasn't."
Uru stopped at the base of the cliff. Happy that his little tale gave him something besides looking out to sea. When they approached the cliff wall, his trinket layout became visible. There were notches all along the wall, big enough to fit a trinket or two and be able to see it from the top. "Carved 'em out myself." He said proudly. "Took a while though. Had to wait for my nails to grow sharp a few times. But I think it was worth it in the end." He waited to see Paolo's reaction. He wanted to see what the male thought before explaining how low the beach was on supplies.

Paolo reflected over what he had asked for a moment to be certain that he hadn't asked for the stallion's life story in some roundabout way. He didn't think he had. He'd only wanted to know what a ship wreck was. This stallion was just volunteering everything. Paolo was used to being a sympathetic ear but hearing this amount of personal information from an almost perfect stranger took him for a loop. He didn't even know the other's name.
"I'm sorry for your lose." He said sympathetically. "It must have been so hard to endure. You're quite strong." He took a few longer strides to come up closer to the other stallion. It was in his training to get as close as he could to those that seemed to want it. That was not limited to being emotionally available and ready to listen. "I'm glad you still have Ysa."
Paolo stared at the cliff as they came to a stop before it. All throughout it there were pieces missing. Paolo's ears flicked as the stallion provided more information. Carved. Paolo whistled quietly. "You're full of talents." Paolo dug his own talons into the ground. Carving wasn't something he was interested in, it would ruin the look of his claws. It was impressive though, not many would have the patience or time to devote to such a thing.

Urusai nodded, agreeing with the stallions comment. "She's my soul mate. I'm glad we were able to find each other again." A soft chuckle bubbled up from his throat. "It seems shes the best at finding things." He turned his attention back to his showcase as he let Ysa slip from his mind. "This seemed to be the best option." Pleased with the whistle he had gotten. "I often trade them to travelers for food or supplies. And they aren't as nice looking when sand is covering part of them. And if I just left them on a rock there's the possibility of them getting tangled or a gull stealing them. Its not like I didn't have the time for it either....... to be honest, not many travelers do come through these parts." He looked around the empty beach. "I suppose that's why there is usually a good supply of net and shells to work with. But its been a while since we had a good storm."
He looked back to Paolo now, he preferred looking others in the eyes when he talked to them. "Its why I've run out of supplies on the beach." It was then he started to eye Paolo's accessories again. "Speaking of which, I don't suppose you could tell me who made your trinkets?" Uru tried to stretch his neck for a better look without seeming rude. "They are very well made."

Paolo smiled to himself over the affectionate way the stallion spoke of his love. It was very sweet and genuine, the way love should be. Perhaps when he left the area he would go out to find her for this poor, lonely stallion. It didn't seem right that the two should be separated for long if they were so in love. That would obviously have to wait though.
"It's good thinking." He said looking over the nooks. If he ever returned to the Whistle Stallions he might see about finding a hollow place of his own in their cave. He could store seeds in them so he wouldn't have to worry about them getting trampled.
At the mention of the lack of travelers Paolo looked back out at the beach. There wasn't much for food in the sandy area and the water wasn't good for drinking. Paolo wasn't surprised that most of their kind preferred to stay further inland where the green was abundant. He didn't get a chance to explain this before he became the topic of discussion. Or rather, his tack and saddle did.
"I'm...not sure who did myself. I received them from my mother but she didn't make them herself." Paolo had never really thought about it before. His mother had only said that it would make him look handsome at the time. It had done exactly that and nothing else had mattered to him. "I think humans may have helped though..." It was all the information he could offer.
