Quote: Sun Hunter SHADOW RUN General Information The Shadow Run is both the simplest and most dangerous training course that can be run without a golem. A flurry of continuous attacks is what the Sun Division holds in highest respect, and the course reflects that. The course itself is a simple tunnel, reached via portal. Within the tunnel await hundreds of weak, hungry shadowlings. Nothing to worry about on their own, but capable of overwhelming a Hunter through sheer numbers at the first moment of weakness. At the other end of the tunnel is another portal, leading back to the course observation booth.
If you fail: your character is KO'd, but there's always a senior hunter in the observation booth with enhanced bandages at the ready. They should reach you in time. Really. Trained and trusty professionals on-hand 24/7.
If you win: peen points and bragging rights to those who take out the greatest number of shadowlings and go the most turns without needing to attempt a recovery maneuver.
Mechanics You must get through 5 waves of attacks to make it through the tunnel. Simply roll for attack as you would in battle. If you miss, your character falters in their attacking and is overwhelmed by shadowlings. After 3 successful hits, you may use your weapon's charge attack.
Bonus Mechanics This bonus is consumable. The bonus in this course is in the form of "recoveries" ~ these are would-be missed attacks that are quickly recovered and turned into a successful hit. Basically, they can miss once and roll again for an extra try. If you keep consecutively missing, though, and run out of recoveries, it's lights out. These do not equal an automatic pass for a round, you still have to land a successful hit to proceed.

Finn was still cruising along on his hopefully brief stint of avoiding anybody and everybody that might require him for some reason or another. The latest mission had left him wounded, and not in just the physical sense of the word. There was no one person that he could blame for this internal hurt, or the massive, tangled ball of confusion that encircled it. It was quite simply just something that he was going to have to deal with, move past, and get over. Having completed the battle arena training course, Finn felt that perhaps it might be prudent to try his hand again at past failures. This time, he chose the shadow run. The last time he had run it, he had done it as a pair, with Ripley, who had sought him out and invited him along. It had been a chance to work out injuries sustained from a short, impromptu mission to the Sahara. Now, it was simply another distraction, or a way for Finn to work out his frustrations, and he intended to do it solo. Weapon drawn, he made his way through the portal, and to the tunnel on the other side. He didn't have far to go before the shadowlings attacked. Finn knew he was stronger now than he had been the last time he'd gone through this, and so, with a slightly heightened sense of self-confidence, he stepped into them, and swung his lance into them, taking out a group of five and clearing a path for him to move on. He forgot just how overwhelming they could be. The shadowlings came at him in a mass of darkness, glowing eyes the only feature that set one apart from another, actually separating them into many instead of just one giant mass. Finn staggered back from the surge, and jabbed at them with his lance. Only one fell, but it was enough for them to draw back, it seemed. Letting out a huff of air, he took quick strides forward, pressing on through that deep dark tunnel. Status Wave: 2 Attack Dmg: 1 Total Shadowlings taken out: 6 Recoveries left: 0

This time, when the masses of darkness surged towards them, he was ready for them. Muscles tensed as his grip on his weapon tightened. Teeth gritted as he braced himself for the impact, boots hitting the floor in quick foot falls as he took off running towards them. A growling shout was uttered as he swung his weapon, again and again, cutting a swath through the shadowlings as they came upon him, knocking them down, to the side, clearing the way as he continued straight on through them all. It felt good. Really good. Status Wave: 3 Attack Dmg: 14 Total Shadowlings taken out: 20 Recoveries left: 0

The shadows had drawn back again, but the exit was still a fair distance away and as Finn continued on, it wasn't long before they converged upon him for the fourth time. He didn't break his stride, simply swinging left and right, keeping his path cleared though his arm was quickly beginning to tire. Not much further. He thought to himself. He was so near the light at the end of the tunnel now, but it was suddenly blocked from view by the shadows that converged upon him. Gritting his teeth, he stepped towards them, muscles bunching in his shoulders as he swung. Again, again, he chopped through them until the path was completely clear. Think we can keep going? He asked Trynt, knowing that they could now leave if they wished, the training complete, but curious as to just how far they could make it if they continued. Thy wyvern growled his approval at the idea, enjoying the Fear that had the runes along his length glowing a bright magenta. He was fully charged, but unfortunately, neither of his Fear abilities would do them much good here. He waited by that exit, not yet leaving, for the shadows to mass around him again, and with a grin, he began to fight them off, sweeping his lance around in wide arcs that swathed a path through them once more. You keeping a count on this? He asked his weapon, quite enjoying this little exercise, and not just because it took his mind off of other things. You are nearing the fifty mark, I believe. Came the growled response. Another shadowling popped up in front of him, and he jabbed it away. Status Wave: 7 Attack Dmg: Total Shadowlings taken out: 49 Recoveries left: 0

But all good things had to come to an end, and unfortunately for Finn, he never did break the 50 mark, his high score coming to a halt at a mere 49. The shadowlings converged and there were too many, too fast, and his arms had grown too tired. He attempted to fight them off, but he was swarmed. Darkness overtook him, until the next thing he knew, he had been pulled out, and was waking up with a body that felt incredibly stiff and sore. He didn't actually feel all that disappointed. At least he had made it to the end. Status Wave: 8 Attack Dmg: 0 Total Shadowlings taken out: 49 Recoveries left: 0
