Name: Sarax Age: 16 Gender: Female Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual Craft/Rank: Candidate History: Growing up with 6 older brothers came easy for Sarax, her parents had expected another boy, had been surprised with a girl but treated her the same as the boys as she grew up, she never really felt girly even though her mother tried from time to time, however any dress you put on her, especially as a young child playing, would end up dirty, removed or torn to bits as she was always running around with the boys, climbing trees, chasing canines, running around after the adults.
As she got older she began working with her parents and the Whers, having been introduced at a young age to her parents Greens, all family members had been blooded to them, just not to the extend her parents had, all they had from her and her brothers was a drop of blood, a pinprick really, just to ensure they would be able to competently work around the Whers and around their parents at night and not get attacked for a stranger.
When news of the takeovers came to her family Sarax knew she agreed with them, having seen how less respected her parents were, some even afraid of them, they certainly weren't given the due they should have deserved, she'd seen them come home when the sun began to rise when the Whers needed to be in their special kennels, her parents patrolling all night with the Whers. Even those creatures weren't respected, reviled, teased and taunted, many times Sarax, and her brothers, had chased away evil little brats with bright glows, wanting to stick them in the kennels and taunt the Whers. More than once she got into trouble for giving boys a black eye about the way they treated Whers. Her mother exasperated, wanting her to be like a 'normal' girl. She got into several fights with her parents about the Wherholds, She agreeing, her parents didn't ... She raged so many times about how pathetic they were to just simply accept their lot in life, why didn't they ASPIRE to anything, to want better for their Whers, and their sons, the eldest two, now Wherhandlers themselves, a Brown and a Blue. It frustrated Sarax so much.
When a Dragonrider came visiting, with news of a clutch and the possibility of a Search, Sarax decided right there and then to just leave, she wanted MORE than to be just another subjugated Wherhandler, if she was to Bond to a wher, she wanted it to mean something, wanted BETTER for herself and for her creature. She begged the dragonrider to take her to the Wherhold, to train among the Wherhandlers there. Reluctantly the Rider agreed, she was 16 and old enough to decide for herself what she wanted, after all, wasn't that what the Wherhold was all about? Sarax had little time to grab her few important things into a bag before fleeing to the rider and then she was airborne, her parents would assume she was roaming again, it would probably be a long while before they discovered her missing and realised where she went, she hoped they wouldn't chase her down and bring her back.
When she was aboard the back of the blue transporting them, Sarax felt a freedom unlike anything she'd felt before, it was better than climbing trees, better than trying to outrun the caprines in the beast pens. Better than absolutely anything in the world. The only thing to mar the experience was going Between but even that couldn't dampen her excitement. Once at the Wher she explained she'd had a lot of training in Wherhandling with her parents but had disagreed with them and had come to the Wherhold. She requested to be allowed to Stand, having ridden a dragon once, it was something she now slightly craved though made sure to say she was just as happy Bonding a Wher and training as much as she could between candidate lessons.
Description: Sarax is tall but not willowy, she's squarely built and not really girl looking, especially as she prefers to cut her hair short and dress in pants and a shirt rather than dresses or skirts, she barely has any breasts to speak of too, which adds to her boyish looks. She has dark brown eyes that are almost black. If she didn't cut her dark brown hair short, it would curl softly, hair some girls would kill for but Sarax really doesn't care.
Personality: Sarax prefers to hang around with boys, being 'one of the boys' She doesn't care much for female company, despite being a girl, she doesn't much understand them, especially the primping and preening to look 'pretty' and attract a boy. Sarax just doesn't care for this, she likes being one of the boys and has had the odd attraction but has never ruined a friendship by acting on it. She doesn't like sitting still and staying indoors, she much prefers to be active and doing things, she just fidgets when she made to stay indoors for any reason. She gets restless when she has nothing to do. She can read and write but has never enjoyed sitting doing written work, only forcing herself to do so because she NEEDED to learn to read and write. Sometime this means she can rush anything she does like this, often she will be sloppy in her hurry and usually has to end up re-doing it. She's sort of ambitious, though she lacks the drive for the most part to do anything about it, usually getting distracted on other things and forgetting whatever plan had maybe been forming, as a result, the only time she's acted on this is leaving her family and coming to the Wherhold, one moment of wanting to be more than JUST a Wherhandler, being more than looked down on, the butt of taunts and ridicule, even though most people want Whers in their holds for guards and whatnot. She doesn't 'need' anyone but herself but she craves the company of those she 'gets' ... boys sometimes treat her differently but, growing up with 6 older brothers has given her much more of an insight into the 'boys world' than most. She knows what they find fun for the most part. That being said, she's not afraid to cry if she is upset or hurt in any way, boys will just have to deal with that, she IS still a girl after all, even if she does prefer the lads' games. She will not tolerate anyone talking bad about Whers, or thinking they are less than dragons despite her wish to become a rider, THAT isn't about dragons being better than whers, it's about the fact dragons can do things whers can't just like whers can do thinks dragons can't. She doesn't value dragons above Whers for any other reason than, they can fly. She absolutely craves that freedom, that one short flight from her family to the Wherhold, taking hold of something in her heart, she almost NEEDS a dragon at this point. The feeling may fade in time but right now Impressing is the one thing she wants most in the world, even if she doesn't say it. She needs a dragon more than she has ever felt she needed a person. She's not sure what she wants in life right now, aside from being respected, be it Wherhandler or Dragonrider, being tired of how wherhandlers were often treated, sometimes as less than even a drudge, for all that whers were important. When it comes to authority she is quite happy to take orders as long as whoever she is taking orders from shows respect for his (or her) people they are commanding. She absolutely hates rudeness, though she won't often bring anyone up on it, usually she will mumble behind their back and grumble for a bit then get over it, usually being fairly civil to whoever had been rude, however if she's in a bad mood then she may become verbal in her disgruntled-ness, or shove someone who has shoved her and such. She can give as good as she gets which could land her in trouble sometimes.
Threadfall terrifies her but she'll not show it, she's sure it terrifies most people. She's not so keen on the creepy crawlies of pern and she hates herself for it, forcing herself to be impassive when the boys play with the sharding things, she doesn't enjoy these games and will usually find something else to do. She is afraid that she might never Bond a Wher (though her heart likes to tell her that's not likely with all her training before coming to Benden) or become a rider, she feels that she can only BE somebody if she has a role such as Wherhandler or Dragonrider, she was a nobody back home, she refuses to live like that again, to be someone who is just another face in the crowd but lacks motivation on her own to do much about it, except the once, to leave her Hold. A lot of her important choices in life have been spur of the moment things, she struggles to plan as she will just get distracted and forget what she was planning until much later when, by then, it's too late.
Other: Sarax isn't the least bit squeamish, she's seen Whers kill and eat, she's gotten stuck in with the boys mucking out and everything else. She'd be more than happy working with people, cleaning killed meat animals and whatnot for food.

Hey! Sarax looks good to me, but before I approve her I'd like to see a couple more details as well as a flaw/vice in her personality.
- For a vice, a couple thoughts from what you already have in her personality: ---- Does her restlessness make her careless and slapdash in her work perhaps? ---- Going off the part about her ambition, does she tend not to be very pro-active; or is she scared of change and so doesn't act on ambitions? - Being 'one of the lads' does she feel pressure to avoid showing weakness/soft emotions? How does she cope with sadness or frustration? - What are her ambitions? Does she want to be powerful? To gain widespread respect and recognition? Something else? - How does she relate to authority? Respectful? Defiant? Does as she's told but mutters behind their back? - What scares her and how does she deal with fear?
If you could add those things, or a couple of different details about how she relates to the people and the world around her, she should be good to go!
