Skorga was quite happy with herself. Her plot to get Thani to notice other guys was working! Now that Nirven had gotten off his shy haunches and approached Thani… Misha had followed. Which meant that Thani had two guys actively vying for her attention! And was, Skorga was pleased to notice, becoming a bit more confident in herself. That left a Skjalg for her! Now she didn’t have to feel bad about spending more time with him… or watch as he came up with an excuse to ditch her sister.
Speaking of which. She looked up from her perch on a rock as he approached.
“Hey Skorga.” He said as he bumped heads with her affectionately. She loved his voice; its soft deep vibrato was very attractive to her. That and the body he was growing into, Skorga was very glad of her rather unorthodox lessons from her older sister from a different clutch Iftu. She already knew about lust, love, adult things… not a lot of experience though.
“Jalg.” She purred and nuzzled him back. “What’s the surprise you wanted to show me?”
“Something special… Discovered it a while back. It’s best to see it at night though; are you going to get in trouble for staying out too late? I know that my parents have stopped caring after all the stuff Frida's gotten into but….”
“Sounds interesting,” She said as she slid off the rock to follow him. “And no. My mother seems happier if I’m not there… me and my all-knowing gaze make her uncomfortable.” She chuckled. She’d come to terms with her mother recently and it didn’t hurt as much as it used to. She just figured that her mother didn't know how to love people equally or couldn't come to terms with a child who was so different.. and because it rubbed in the fact that Dona was not the best of mothers.. and that maybe the last two failed clutches had not been her partner's fault... or not completely at least. Not like I need her anyways, she thought, I've got a good father, siblings from my clutch and older and the best of friends.
Skjalg sighed in sympathy. “She never did come to trust you did she?”
“Nah… but I’ve gotten used to it. That and I’ve got my friends, clutch sibs, and father who care about me and do trust me. So why should I care if the old bird can’t come to terms with me being intelligent?”
“Just friends?” Jalg said with a smile as he bumped her with his wing.
“Well.. maybe more.” She responded coyly.
Skorga looked about, Jalg was taking her towards the beach, and the full moon was rising above the sea’s horizon. Well, she thought, if he wanted to set a nice romantic mood, he got it! Full moon over a sea? Nice, props to him for putting in the effort!
“No, not that.” He said as he saw her smirk. “Much as I like the full moon and sea… that’s not it.”
“Oh?” She said curiously: figures he can read my expressions… but then that’s one reason I enjoy being around him. “There’s something better?”
“Could be.” Was all he said before he started to trot down the beach towards where a stream met the river. Skorga followed, enjoying the view for a moment before trotting up to run along side him. It was a lovely night anyways, gentle sea wind blowing inland, some clouds above, moon, wonder what he’s got planned?
He lead her to a pile of rocks at the sea’s edge, smoothed on top by tide and wind to make a perfect perch for two. He leaped up to perch and grinned down at her.
“It’ll start soon…”
Afire with curiosity now, Skorga jumped up to join him, curling against his larger flank for warmth as the temperature started to dip.
“You really do know my weakness Jalg,” She said with an amused hiss, “now I just have to see it.”
He chuckled and curled about her, his larger bulk shielding her from the damp sea winds. Before Skorga could do more than purr and snuggle against the embrace, a chiming caught her attention. Small bugs emerged from the beach sand and flew up into the air. They looked like shinning shells, with luminescent wings that chimed like glass as they fluttered. More and more joined, the sea wind blowing them about like motes of shimmering dust.
“They’re called Selala’s. Apparently they eat light.” Jalg said to a silent and enthralled Skorga. “The ones that live around hear only come out at night.. I found that they come in greater numbers the more moonlight there is.”
She twitched a tail in response, her eyes glued to the scene in front of her. Moonlight on the sea tides as they washed in, dancing lights in the wind billowing and dissipating like mist, the sound of the ocean and wind mixing with the music of the selala’s; Skorga loved it.
They sat in silence for a while before Skorga stirred.
“Like it?” He asked as she stood up with a gleam in her eye.
“Like it? I love it!” She purred as she sashayed out towards the light. “I’m gonna try and catch one!”
He laughed and lounged on the rock, taking up most of it now that she’d vacated her snuggling spot.
Skorga spent the next few minutes attempting to catch them, two in particular she cahsed about for several minutes. They always danced just out her reach though, flying higher and eventually one tried to sting her before fleeing. Not that it could penetrate through her scales, but it did make her back off. No sense in risking all of the cloud turning on her.
The cloud moved out a different location, away from the creature that kept disturbing their meal. She sat for a moment and watched them move off before prancing back happily to Skjalg.
“Thank you for showing me this,” she said as she jumped up besides him again.
“You’re welcome. I would have brought you here sooner, but I wanted you to see it under a full moon.” He said as he shifted to make space for her.
“It was worth the wait.” She said in a silky tone as she twinned herself about him. His eyes lit up; apparently it was worth the wait!
