Tantalus was trying to force himself to patrol alone more often - he couldn't hang on Damocles's coattails all the time. And besides, on the whole he had more pleasant than unpleasant interactions, and really, he had to get over this irrational worry.
So he was out walking, on a relatively deserted street. No one to drain, really, but if he wanted to make a pleasant impression, sucking peoples' energy wasn't the best way to do it and he knew that.
He felt an Eternal aura, and stopped, frowning slightly. With any luck, it would be someone he got along pleasantly with.Silverah don't worry about rushing this, whenever you feel up to it -- i just wanted to get off my butt and get it started finally @.@

Europa was patrolling alone tonight, unusual for her as of late but refreshing. Oenone didn't do well at all facing youma, and actual human adversaries were not much better. Gunn ran bloodthirsty, and every moment Europa spent with her was another step closer to killing again and all that the first time had proven was that she didn't have the guts, and she wouldn't have the guts until she practiced more, and that was why Leto was still alive. There was a dark mirror senshi nearby, what felt like a super. Walking. She didn't want a confrontation, but if he was so close then there was no question he'd felt her. Anyone smart would seek to avoid an Eternal... but the Dark Mirror Court seemed, in general, chattier than others. Perhaps she'd even describe it as an evangelical streak. Europa would not be a willing convert. Up ahead, the chaotic signature had stopped in its tracks, and she recognized the senshi coming into view immediately. It was that red one, Tantalus, from the White Phoenix fight. She couldn't blame him for Leto's survival... but he'd been a distraction, and her frustration over that night ran deep. "If you don't want trouble," Europa called to him. "You'd better keep moving."

Tantalus froze. He had not, perhaps, expected this particular Eternal - one who he had very definitely had trouble with in the past. Someone he could even consider himself to have unfinished business of a sort with. This time, there was no cat likely to save him - though he had planned to meet Damocles later, and he supposed that was some small measure of safety.
"And if I do want trouble?" He asked, and there was a layer of likely-unwarranted confidence in his voice. He'd held his own against her as a Basic, and he was a Super now - still not quite on par with her, but the gap was no longer so wide.
"Because I think I might."

He was... he was probably a moron, thought Europa, flabbergasted at his assertion that he wanted trouble. From what she recalled, she'd whupped his a** last time before he hit her with his cheap-trick magic, but she knew how it worked now and that was to her advantage, even if she wouldn't be able to resist the apple's pull. She'd just have to end this before he got a chance to throw it. Besides, if he started it, then who could hold it against her if she killed him? Gunn would be proud. And she'd... she could use him to send a message to Leto: I can do this, and I will rip your court apart to get to you.Which, she knew, was dangerous thinking, but whatever. "You want trouble?" she asked. She expected him to make the first strike, since he'd beckoned it, and since he wasn't moving she had to expect a trap. She doubted he'd use the apple - what was the point of making her run from a fight that he allegedly wanted? Hit him with pressure and snap his neck, she thought. But no, that seemed unfair. She needed to make him show his hand first. "If you want a fight," she said, circling him, "Then bring us to blows."

This was stupid. Tantalus knew it was stupid. It was reckless and likely to get him killed and everything he had promised Damocles he wouldn't do anymore, but god damn it he was angry. He hated remembering even the slightest bit of the White Phoenix disaster, and there was plenty of reason for him to hate the Senshi in front of him after it.
She had tried to kill him.
She had been one of the two who tried to murder his Princess.
But he was also not a fighter, and actually starting a fight was sort of new to him. The best idea at hand seemed pretty terrible, and that was run at her, but it was all he had and so he darted, and when he was closer turned his shoulder towards her and leapt forward in an attempt to ram into her.
(Stupid stupid stupid stupid, but it sort of felt good to actually be aggressive for once, to challenge someone and not just lay down and wait to be beaten on.)

Oh, that was more like it! Tantalus was quick on his feet, but Europa was quicker, her jumping skills honed by a) years of being a senshi and b) literally, years of being a senshi. She dodged the young man's lunge with ease, taking a quick leap to the side to be out of his striking path. Well, there. He'd made the first move and now she had no qualms whatsoever about striking him down. Cool. Europa pivoted quickly from where she'd landed, planning to catch her assailant before he'd fully recovered from his lunge. When he was a more experienced fighter, he'd realize what a slave to momentum that kind of movement made him. Right now, though, she was going to use it against him-- And aim a quick squarely for his gut.

Tantalus did not have time to protect himself, or to redirect, or anything, because her kick smacked firmly into his gut and did all the redirection for him. He stumbled backwards, taking a sharp breath, and then threw a punch - but it was desperate and unrefined.
He needed a hell of a lot more practice and he knew it. This was three thousand levels of bad decision, but he was going to press, to keep fighting (and kind of to hope that someone would show up to help him, but that wasn't exactly entirely likely.

The punch grazed her bicep, and Europa smirked, just a little bit. "On a scale from one to ten of bad decisions," she said, hopping back from the senshi, "This is about a thousand." Perhaps she wouldn't mind killing him - she thought that maybe she could see Gunn's reasoning. It would keep him from trying anything as stupid as this ever again, and next time her attacked her, maybe they would be more evenly matched. She flung a hand out towards the senshi, shouting, "Deep ocean terror!" She gave it a second to really hit, and then lunged forward. "You're going to die alone and afraid," she said, trying to get a hold on him. He was slippery, damn!

Tantalus had not experienced Europa's magic before.
Maybe if he'd had some experience, it wouldn't have been quite as bad - but as it was, darkness and things reaching for him sent his heart racing. Terror set in, and even though the rational parts of his brain were aware that this all had to be in his head, well - he'd already been a little afraid of her, and now it was a cascade of blind fear.
"You're going to die alone and afraid," she'd said, and right then, it seemed true. His chest hurt, and breathing was rapidly becoming more difficult than it had any right to be. He had to run - to get as far from here as possible, if he wanted to have even the slightest chance of survival.He was already moving backwards, but she was Eternal - she would, likely, be faster than him. He needed to distract her - which, fortunately, was the sum total of what his magic was good for.
"Tease!" He said, and it was a miracle he could focus enough to call on his magic and hurl the apple somewhere, anywhere, as long as it was away from him.

She was going to kill him, thought Europa, colliding with Tantalus. She was going to kill him and then he would never, ever get between her and Leto ever again. Except, wait, was that--? It was. That god damn apple. Europa groaned, already knowing what was about to hit her, and there it was. That compulsion, bone deep and all-consuming. Chase me.But I don't want to chase the apple. I want to kill him, thought Europa. Chase me! insisted the apple. "Fine," snarled Europa, releasing her hold on the senshi. She tore off after the apple, which, predictably, only rolled further way. Another time, she was going to kill him, because he was ******** annoying.

As soon as he was given the opportunity, Tantalus bolted. She was busy chasing the apple, which meant he had twenty seconds to get as far away from her as he possibly could before he completely stopped breathing.
Because it really, really felt like that was going to happen.
Twenty seconds was not a long time, and he was counting down in his head - and it was sheer luck that at around seven he managed to find a mirror he could make a quick escape through.
