User Image The sun was well past halfway through the sky; more so getting close to setting. The sky was dark due to this, and cast a fire like shine along the treetops. Dusk was fast approaching, and for most it would mean it was time to settle down. Birds were stopping their singing and critters were quickly moving into hiding and away from the outside world. It was starting to become time for the nocturnal animals to come from their dens. For the bats and the foxes to venture out and hunt for their meals.

And that was where Smaug was currently. The large dragon had left his comfortable gold piles behind hours ago, and left Indra with guards. The guards had been, of course, instructed to keep him safe, and to escort him to a small river so that he could have time to relax. Some of the other dragons were to go with him as well, so that he had company. That, and if Smaug remembered right, the fish were swimming up that river this time of year to breed. Which meant fresh food for his little consort. At the time he could have chuckled, but now he was far too comfortable with his meal to care. Smaug had left for his own food. Not that he didn't like eating rabbit or birds every damn day; but sometimes he wanted something more... delectable. So he flew over the mountains, staring down at the lands below him, and eventually landed in a clearing. It didn't take him long to track down a herd of pronghorns, which he followed closely and watched for an hour or so. Eventually he picked the one that looked to be the best tasting; a large buck with strong muscles and a nice belly from grazing. Just the sight of the creature made the dragon's mouth water and his claws flex.

Needless to say, Smaug took the buck down. It was simple really. He waited until they settled to graze, circled them, waited a little longer, and then attacked. He injured some of the other pronghorns in the attack, swinging his tail and beating his wings. And it only took one quick bite to the creature's throat to end his life. His tail lashed as he sunk sharp fangs into tender flesh. He then laid down, cleaned off his bloody claws and scales, and rested for a few minutes. The sun had dipped to the point he couldn't seen it, though the glow in the sky told him the sun was still there somewhere. Smaug began to eat slowly. He started at the throat, and moved down toward the better parts. Smaug's scales glistened with blood and shifted along his body in the thrill of the hunt. Pronghorns were his favorite meal when he was able to hunt. His wings flared slightly, making him seem even larger than he was. He ate slowly, enjoying every bite. His ear flicked every once in a while at any sound that seemed to hit his ears. Perhaps it was another predator or someone who wanted to snatch his food. Either way, he was aware of his surroundings, and he growled low in his throat when he thought something got too close. The fire drake lifted amber eyes to glance around for a moment, before looking back at his food, ripping off a piece of flesh and swallowing it quickly. Nothing could ruin his day with this hunt being a success.

User Image Sinal flew ahead, his tail feathers shining like a beacon in the dark sky. The other ravens had mocked her choice of a male companion, until she had forcefully silenced them. She had chosen him for her own reasons. She preferred night flights above all else. Her cat like eyes taking in plenty of light even on moonless nights. He was as silent as an owl in flight, and his bio-luminescent feathers were useful. They could be eyes in a dark forest, or a marker for her to execute a stronger aerial strike.

Right now though, they were simply drifting. Watching the land below as they let the warm and cool currents bring them up, then let them drift down again. She wasn't paying all too much attention to the living creatures below, so it was Sinal who first pointed out the large stallion.

"I've never seen him before," he said, drifting back to fly next to his mistress. "And I am glad that we are well outside your father's lands. It is difficult to tell from such a distance, but he looks to be nearly as large as your father. I would hate to fight him."

"Don't be a coward," she teased. The little raven never had been, and likely never would be, as brave as his sisters. That was fine by her. "I doubt he's as large as you suspect. It's rare even among stallions for one to be so large, and he looks like he is an Ulun'suti. They are often quite small."

"I am quite certain of it," he said, flapping a few times to fight a particularly long down draft. "I would wager, that he is at least as large as you if not larger."

"Oh? That's unusual for you. Very well. Three fish that he is smaller than I am."

"Big fish?"

"The biggest you can catch," she smirked.

He hummed a moment as he looked back down at the red suti below and considered, "Yes. Yes, I am certain of it."

"Then let us go see," she said as she began to circle down to a spot near the stranger. It was no surprise when Sinal grabbed on to her scarf with his talons, and flattened down against her back to hide. He did the same every time they met someone new, after all.

Smaug was enjoying his meal. Enjoying the feel of flesh and blood running down his throat and filling his stomach. And though he got slower when he ate a lot, he didn't care. He was enjoying his meal, and it was making him a rather happy dragon. His tail flicked behind him, brushing over some discarded bones and bits of fur. His wings shifted and flicked outward for a second, before dipping down, the clawed fingers ripping out some of the smaller bones that were in his way. The dragon was totally in his own little world of meat and blood. That was until he heard something from above.

Lifting his head, and licking off the blood on his muzzle, Smaug glanced toward the sky. He narrowed slitted eyes as he tried to pinpoint the noise of flapping wings. His ears flicked up and swiveled, searching, before he pinpointed it. Two. One far smaller than the other. He took a half step forward, lifting his claw to settle over his kill. Sharp claws dug into the remains of his meal. He looked up and around, before finally spotting something in the skies. Something was moving down toward him. He bared his fangs, wings flaring slightly before he dipped his head in a defensive manner. He would protect his kill if he had to. Though this could just be another meal that he could take down. He grinned slightly, all fangs and blood. His muscles flexed slightly along his form.

When the thing got closer, Smaug noted the glint of something in the sun. He flicked his gaze toward the wings on the creature, head tilting slightly to the side. Was that... It was.. He knew. He knew the sight of gold, especially in the sun. His tail flicked behind him again, and he bared his fangs both in interest and in animosity. Yes. Gold. Precious, precious gold. Something that Smaug was quite a fan of. And by the looks of it, she appeared to be like a mix of a dragon and a bird. More so the bird. His head tilted the other way at the sight. How peculiar. And he was surprised such a creature existed. He never thought that such a mixture could exist. But there was no point in doing anything about it now; he had to figure out what this creature wanted and why she was approaching so quickly.

She touched down, being sure to keep a respectful distance from the strange stallion. Even if he hadn't clearly been a carnivore mid meal she would have done the same. She had no intention of hunting or stealing tonight.

Sinal crawled forward along her back, poking his head out through a gap between her feathery mane and a wing.

"See?" the sound was sharp, like a caw. "He's big. Very big! I win, I win. You will give me fishes!"

She raised her upper lip in a slight snarl, sending him back into hiding. It was like this almost every time she let him win, and if she didn't shut him down, then he would be boasting all night long.

With her companion quieted she turned her attention back to the suti before her. Or was he? Were those claws? A mix then. She forced herself to relax. It was plain to see that he was on guard. With no fur to obscure his body she could see each muscle twitch and tense. He looked her over with the same expression her father wore when confronted by a stranger. If he wasn't an alpha male, she was sure he would be one day. Best to play it safe.

"My apologies if I'm trespassing. I landed in a bid to win a bet with my companion here," she lowered a wing just long enough to reveal Sinal's cowering figure. "On whether you're stature was larger than my own. It's somewhat impressive that I lost."

The Alpha Dragon shifted his claws easily in the dirt; digging into soft grass and ground and prepping to spring. His tail swayed behind him, much like a cat who was preparing to pounce. He flared his wings slightly, before folding them against his side and dipping his wings down to where the small hands grabbed the ground as well. The move caused his form to seem a little wider, and in that aspect, bigger. It was always good to seem bigger. When the mare touched down, Smaug bared his fangs, snapping razor teeth toward her and letting smoke seep from his nostrils and mouth. It was obvious he was well aware of the world around him, and in that, was well aware of how to handle himself. And though she was smaller than he was, Smaug knew that size didn't matter. Indra and Helka were much smaller than him, and they could easily destroy him if they so wished. Being water dragons helped in that aspect, but Smaug tried not to think of that.

The noise of a male voice distracted him for a moment. Sharp eyes turned to stare down toward the feathery mane, locking on a bird that seemed to be nestled within her feathers. He frowned, eyes flickering for a moment, before locking once more on her as she snarled. He pulled his mind away from the thought of such a strange creature being in front of him. The feathers and the webbed wings. The way she held herself... Everything was rather strange. He never thought of such a combination. He cocked his head, stopping his growling and snarling and focusing on her instead. She didn't seem like she could take him down; and with that, he calmed considerably. He was still on edge, still ready to attack and kill if needed, but he was also not snarling or digging his claws into the earth.

At her explanation, Smaug flicked an ear. He rose a horned brow, frowning toward her a bit more. His fangs bared for a second, before he glanced down at his kill, and then back at the mare. "I have yet to meet one as large as I. Why does my size matter, feather dragon?" Smaug stated. It wasn't so much as a question, as a demand for an answer. Smaug didn't like being ignored, and he didn't like when people didn't answer him or show him the respect he demanded. He was an alpha, a predator, and a dragon. And he would always demand the respect of those around him, and if he didn't get it, he'd just have to destroy those who opposed him.

Despite his posturing, she kept her cool. The attitude was familiar to her. The pose, the shifting muscles, ready to attack. The claws gripping at the ground as if to say, yes, this too belongs to me. In so many ways he was the mirror image of her father. She gave him a sly grin. He was stronger, but he still felt the need to pose and posture. There was insecurity there, but why? She kept her distance. Insecurity should never be confused for weakness.

"You're size doesn't matter," she admitted. "Not really. It's only that I've met few larger than myself, and none larger than my father. It's difficult to know for sure, but you may come close to his size." She paused for a moment then added. "In height, and wingspan. Both impressive... But there is no special reason besides that."

Feather dragon... the term bothered her but it was unlikely that their meeting would last long. There was little point in wasting time explaining her inheritance to someone she would likely never see again.

The large dragon wasn't certain what was going on. His eyes flickered up and down the mare before her; as if analyzing her and checking the threat rate. She seemed... unwilling to be oppressive. So she wasn't going to attack him; which was good. If he needed, he could take her down. But he didn't want to loose his kill to some scavengers that roamed the area; and he didn't want to have to come home with a few battle wounds of his own. He was good at fighting; great at killing. But he prided himself in the way his scales glistened like gold. His one weak point was enough to irritate him beyond reasoning, why create more? His ears flicked forward some, watching her with a curious stare. She was rather close to his territory, and in turn, he was certain he was close to hers. Even if it was a small territory. His head tilted slightly to where he could peer over his shoulder and great wings toward the mountains he called home. Indra was there. Indra who needed to be protected, and, well, loved on. As much as Smaug hated to admit it. He had to give his consort all sorts of attention to keep him happy.

But Smaug wasn't dwelling on Indra. Not with a feather dragon in front of him.

The red beast shifted some, moving away from the kill slightly to drag his claws in the earth, marking the land under him. He was proving it was his; proving that everything he touched was his. His tail lashed for a moment behind him before laying still. His wings folded slowly against his back, and he carefully calculated how he was appearing. He needed to calm down slightly. Smaug wasn't the type to just allow people to walk all over him, but he also needed to remember that not everyone was out to steal from him. He glanced toward his food; his bleeding out food, and pondered pausing to eat. To tear the flesh from the bones and swallow the meat whole to fill his belly. But that would mean being slow in his digestion; which would give him a disadvantage. He shook the thought; his food could wait. He focused once more on the blue shaded male, staring at her with slight interest.

The mention of the mares father caught his attention. His size? Similar to Smaug? He almost laughed at the thought. He'd met few who stood taller than his shoulder, and this mare was one of them. The dragon shifted some to dip his head down, sniffing at the food he was ignoring before lifting his slit eyes toward the feather dragon. "Bigger than me? Ha! I would like to see your father than; I am curious as to his strength if he is my size." He said, voice hissing slightly toward the end of the statement.
