It had been a while since Tranquility had to leave her humble shrine in the mountains. But there were just some things that you can’t find on the mountain. But with the leaves starting to turn it was time to go to the town that was a half a day’s walk away. But she had heard some stories about a Demon in the woods that had taken residence. It was a vile horse that went after everyone. So it wasn’t just a spirit. She could have been possessed but she wouldn’t know until they encountered… And she was hoping to avoid that.

With Whisper all grown up and living her own life she was finding things to be a bit lonely. Maramu wasn’t coming around as often to visit. She knew it wasn’t personal but she missed them both dearly. Maramu made her feel warm and he just made her day brighter.

Ah well, those were things she couldn’t deal with right now. She would see Maramu again soon, but she needed to have supplies to last her all winter since it was tough to get to the two leg town in the winter. Her crystal blue eyes took in the forest. It seemed dauntingly dark in the sun that was not quite high. She took a breath and entered. It seemed normal, everything was quiet but the birds and insects.

Batibat Lili was fuming. She had been given the greatest gift of all: the gift of not only protecting her beloved forest, but to bring new life into it as well, but she was alone in doing it. The stallion she had thought to be honorable and sincere had disappeared before he could even hear the news of her current condition. She made her way through the trees, walking as nimbly as she could on her sore legs. There was no sign of Astucia. No smells, no word, nothing. Her heart sank as she thought of being alone during the birth, but she kept her head held high. Surely this was a test of the spirits; one to ensure she would not be distracted from her duty to the earth and its gifts.

Her senses seemed to be heightened by the pregnancy, and she could smell somebody wandering closer every second. She stiffened, scenting the air more closely. It was not the father of her children, nor was it anyone she'd encountered before. Batibat found this odd, as she tracked most who lived in the forest, or even those who were just passing through. She'd follow their trail and make sure they left everything as they'd found it, and if they didn't, she'd give them a soft warning followed by a harsh threat.

Although larger than normal, Batibat was no less agile, and she made her way toward the passerby with silence and ease. The kirin-kalona watched the tiny mare, her eyes narrowed to slits. She didn't seem to be a threat, but nothing could be certain until more observations were done.

Her ear twitched, as she walked the bell that was entwined into her tail gentle jingled with each step. She could feels eyes on her. Eyes that she had not met, she knew that her luck was not with her today. It must be this ‘Demon’ everyone has made mention of. Well, as a shrine maiden Tranquility knew that the spirits would protect her. She could hear them all around her. She glanced to the side as she walked forward her front hoof going down and then suddenly stopped as a pedal of a flower just touched her hood.

She didn’t move for a minute and then she moved backwards and lowered her head to the flower. It looked like the seeds have been carried from the other flowers nearby into the side of the path and grew. That was a rare thing on a path well traveled, it would probably be a matter of time before it got trampled. “May the spirits protect you.” She whispered softly and then carried on, glancing over her shoulder looking in the direction the other mare was but not seeing her.

The hybrid watched the usdia curiously, and nearly left her spot in the bushes when she saw it headed for the small patch of flowers on the side of the path. But when the little blue mare stopped, Batibat was amazed. Her brows furrowed at the little creature, and she couldn't help but overhear what she'd said. Were those words directed toward the flower? Or perhaps were they directed to her? Had she lost some of her stealth when she gained her children's girth? Her head was swirling.

Without thinking, she emerged from the bushes and onto the path. "Did... Did they send you, too?" Her voice was quivering and her body language was anything but that of an angry demon. "The spirits. To protect the earth? Did they send you as well?" Her ears and wings drooped, finding hope in the possibility of not being the only one of her kind. She kept her wings low over her hanging belly, hoping the other mare wouldn't notice her condition.

Tranquility was walked forward and when the voice came she turned back to where she had looked before and just as she thought there was a horse there. She wasn’t scared because the voices told her that the mare had emerged from the forest’s growth. Tranquility’s crystal blue eyes looked the other horse up and down before she turned. The other make was a Kalona. This brought concerned thoughts to the Shrine maiden but she didn’t run. The mare hadn’t shown any aggression.

“I believe that is why I am here.” She answered simply. The gift she was given she interpreted that way. “I live at a shrine in the mountain. I listen to the spirits and help them cross over.” She tilted her head lightly at the pink and green colored mare. “You are the protector of this forest, aren’t you?” This ‘Demon’ had gained her reputation from scaring off those that didn’t respect nature. The picture was finally coming together. This other mare though, based on her body language seemed to be nervous or even ... defeated? She tilted her head against and frowned lightly.

She didn’t want to over step in someone else’s domain. But she had to think that this mare come out for a reason. Something she might even want Tranquility’s help with? Though Tranquility had to wonder what she would need an Usdia’s help with but she would not disrespect the other mare by assuming anything. The opal colored mare nosed her think mane from her face and waited patiently for the larger female horse to speak.
