About the Parents:

User Image
Conceived in a twisted night near the date of All Hallows, Ristyx has never been quite right. Where most young foals may love to play in the sunlight, admire butterflies, and play tag, Ristyx enjoys the dark. She plays in the dark forest and her best friends are spiders that spin webs by moonlight. During the day she find a dark place to sleep, such as in a cave or densely forested patch of land. During the night she is active and curious, looking for the little bugs that glow as they float by, and whispering to the bats that perch in her trees.

User Image

Fovos is the half brother of Nereza, and more so her guardian angel after the tragedy that had befallen their family. He has one other brother named Charon who has yet to appear in the soquili lands however they are not particularly close. Much like Ristyx he enjoys the night, lingering in the darkness with only the soft noises of the night. During the day he spends most of his day hiding in caves or deep forest avoiding the sunlight. The two small spirits that linger around do chatter to him, they are not particularly friendly just noses little beings that like to put their own say in the matter. Fovos is not good nor evil he prefers to put little interest or care in the matter seeing that things are not black and white but more so a necessity of life.

Name: Aiman Moros

Meaning: "Beauty of the Moon" in Kazakh

Temper: Songful

Personality: A gentle soul who enjoys the rays of the moon, over the harsh beams of the sun. Her best friends would be the cave dwelling bats that enjoy her light singing. Spiders enjoy hanging around her since she's always mindful of her under hoof. She'll play fight with her brother and learn to protect her family from those who aren't meant to be close. She loves to dance around the dark forest with the glowing creatures. The fog is her friend as it tickles her feet. she's a kind soul, but is never quick to judge another creature. No matter how big or small they are.

Prompt 3 - When you finally emerge from the basket you notice how dark the world is. The sky above you is littered in little dots of stars as a crescent moon hangs low in the sky. What do you feel? Aiman yawns lightly as she emerges from her basket. She blinked a few times, trying to adjust to the darkness of her world. After a little while it became eyes enough to see her surroundings. Looking towards the sky to see an ocean of black and blues. It was decorated with little bright dots that looked like the tiny light bugs that floated around her home. She stared into the night sky with an expression of awe on her face. She was baffled by the beauty of the stars and the moon as it came out of hiding from behind the clouds. Her little tail swished with glee as she bounced around with excitement. The night had given her such joy that they day would probably not show.

Spirits, spiders, and bats. All these live among the family. She giggled as he heard her father speaking to his dual spirit companion. Her ears perked up at the sound of her mother cooing at the bats that she began to sing little songs to them as she'd pass by them. Fovos is a different kind of father, but a loving one still. Aiman loved her father dearly, even though he was something different. Neither good or evil, but always saw the necessity of life. Ristyx is an adoring mother who coos and cares for her children. She is someone that Aiman looks up to as she begins to grow up into a young mare. She'll usually coo with her mother at the spiders and bats that enjoy resting upon her back. She adores the spiders and other critters of the night, but never likes to be startled in her sleep by them.

Name: Ardens Lux

Meaning: "Brilliant light" in Latin.

Temper: Luminous

Personality: Marked by her radiance and extroversion, Lux is probably the most bubbly creature you will ever meet. She's bright, alert, a veritable "morning person"... But she lives for the night and the mystery it brings. The stars bring magic for her, and they are probably her favorite thing about the night - how one can always make new pictures from them amazes her. In some ways, they are the weight that holds her steady; if she's told to stop bothering somebody, she'll take a deep breath and go stare at them for a while.

The unfortunate aspect of her extroversion is that there are not many others out there, aside from her family, that she can meet at night - at least, not without waking them up, which she will have a habit of doing. So, as she gets older, it will be harder and harder for her to be happy, as she realizes that not many people are amused by being woken up in the middle of the night, and even fewer will actually want to play with her. So, for a time, she will retreat to her family, until she is old enough to venture out on her own. Once she has reached that age, she will seek out others who are nocturnal, but she will always return home; she will just have a need to meet others, to be with people who are up for some fun so late at night, other than her family.

As a foal, Lux will have loved the sun and the moon equally. She will awaken early and stay up late, trying to catch a glimpse of the sun before the moon replaces it and vice versa. But, as she grows older, she will fall in love even more so with those twilight times, and the fact that she can meet both diurnal and nocturnal people during them. Lux will become primarily crepuscular as an adult, waking up just before dawn and dusk, and spending the hours between them dozing. If anyone wakes her up when it's not dawn or dusk, she'll still be raring to go... But she will go into deeper sleep later because she'll be tired.

Though she will be loud and slightly obnoxious (well, probably more than slightly), the stillness of the night will keep her from being toooooo rambunctious. She doesn't think too much about the affect her ebullience has on others, but she will probably get some sense knocked into her later down the line...

With a slight pop, the seal on the filly's basket opened, and she nosed it open, looking around. All was darkness, just like it had been in her basket, and uncertainty filled her - was the world just like her basket, cramped and boring and black, except for when those beautiful voices spoke around her? Where were the owners of those voices?

Ears twitching, the filly ducked back beneath the lid of the basket a little bit, taking shelter beneath its brim. But as she was retreating, something on the upper edge of her vision attracted her gaze - far above her, the blackness ended suddenly, in a jagged line of cone-shaped silhouettes. Above that, the night was deep blue, freckled with white pinpricks. What are those? she wondered, her eyes finding the bright moon and going wide with awe. As she looked at the sky, she began to see shapes in the stars, outlines... A round basket like hers, and a little body, of the same form as she, outlined against the stars. She saw another crescent moon and laughed out loud - but then bit off the laugh as she recognized the quiet of the night. The longer she listened, though, the more she heard: crickets chirping, the hoot-hooooo sound of an owl in the distance. All the same, the world was mostly quiet, and the sky above her was silent and motionless, like it had been painted on the roof of the world.

It was beautiful.

Pushing her head out from beneath the basket, the filly pulled one leg out and clumsily felt around for something solid to put it against so she could get out - and found the ground, thick with soft grass. The smell her movement kicked up enthralled her, and she leaned forward in her basket until she rolled clumsily out, taking a chomp of grass as she went.

Chewing, she gazed up at the sky, and wondered if those white pinpricks, if that glowing crescent - what if they were the owners of those wonderful voices she'd heard, watching over her with their warm presences? Her heart glowed with love for them, and they glowed back. I hope it's always like this, she thought, and looked around a bit more. Her eyes were used to the darkness of her basket, and when she squinted, that helped her to make out two other shapes nearby, both round like her own basket. I hope the sky will love them, too.

Then, something snapped nearby... And the beautiful voices spoke, and introduced themselves. A warm glow filled her, and after a moment, she looked at the sky. You aren't my parents, but I will love you, too. Her expectations had been far exceeded - she had more things than she could count that would love her now, with her parents and the moon and each of those bright little stars. And each of them was more beautiful to her than she could ever hope to describe.

Sitting down in the grass, the filly waited for her siblings' baskets to open so she could introduce them to all the things that would love them, too.

Name: Estrellaluna

Meaning: Estrella means stars... and luna is the moon... so ... Starmoon?
Temper: Whimsical

Personality: Essie is a whatever comes type of girl. She can be with a crowd just as easily as she can be with herself. The life she was born in is not a typical life, and she feels it makes her all the better for that. Being the only daughter in the family does make her feel some pressure though, because she knows she cannot behave as the boys. There will be expectations and she hopes that she can live up to her parents wishes, hopes and dreams for her.

Prompt Response: (oh this was hard because i liked them both!) Prompt 2:
As I finally made my way out of the basket I nickered looking for my mother. My brothers were still fast asleep in theirs -lazy bums- and I decided to take this moment to myself before they woke up and ruined it. The stars and the moon shown down on my bodies, illuminating my markings and showing me just how much I look like my parents. Where are my parents? They should be here... maybe I'm a little earlier than I thought.
I blink a few times and look around hoping to catch a glimpse of my -OH! there... that must be my father but ... what is that around him? I quietly walk towards him not wishing to interrupt what looks to be a serious and thoughtful moment. I hear voices, his is deep and kind at the moment and I realize... he is not talking to anyone! least not anyone on this plane of existence. This is my father, as I get closer I look up and realize how big he is. As he continues his conversation I realize I should not bother him right now, he will have time for me later.
I wander away in search of my mother, realizing I am a little hungry as well as curious. Where is she... what is she doing? My wanderings bring me to a cave. It looks dark and a bit scary, so I stand out side and call "Moooother? Are you here?"
I cry out in fear as about a million little stupid bats fly out of the cave. I must have woken them when I called her, I mentally chastise myself as I run away to get out of the crash path of the bats. I collect my mental faculties and continue my search deciding that perhaps calling into caves should not be repeated....
I hope I can find my mother soon, I know she is around somewhere.

(edit to add: I notice she **should** look like her father ...if the outside is any indication.... so I'm fashioning her to be a bit of a daddies girl with this prompt... i hope that's ok?)

Name: Suleis

Meaning: A Celtic goddess of life giving and curses

Temper: Benign

Personality: Suleis is a dreamer, mild of temper and mild of temperament, but at the same time doesn't seem to be 'all there.' She has always seemed to live in her own world of spirits and shadows, having conversations with things that others can't see. Having a conversation with her can often leave others feeling that they missed something, as Suleis seems to talk and look past them rather than at them. She doesn't tend to get riled up or involved in things easily, but she gets 'feelings' at times that can make her uncomfortably perceptive in her dealings with other Soquili. The night is her domain as much as that of her parents, and she is most at home in quiet, shadowy, peaceful places where she can properly interact with her 'spirit friends.'

Prompt Response:

Prompt 1
When you finally emerge from the basket you notice how dark the world is. The sky above you is littered in little dots of stars as a crescent moon hangs low in the sky. What do you feel? Do you like the night? Or do you yearn for something more?

It's so beautiful, Sulies reflects with a dreamy smile. For so long she had been in the cozy warmth of the basket, alone with her thoughts; but in spite of the cosyness, it had been empty; empty, and alone. Now she she stepped forth, looking up at a dazzling array of lights against the blackness of the sky. One light in particularly seemed to call out for her, a great, semi-circular light like a bright, toothy smile. She didn't yet know to call it the moon, but she did know that she and it were going to become good friends.

Stepping forward out of the basket, she tilted her nose towards the heavens, the same dreamy smile on her face. She took no notice of the two neighboring baskets, not even to know whether or not they were empty. She had a vague idea there were other creatures around, but those creatures were secondary; she had to learn more of the beautiful smiling light. Like a creature in a trance, she drafted in the direction of the moon, her eyes half-lidded, her expression serene. She knew that once the initial complications were past, she and the smiling light would be best friends.

Though she would not discriminate, Suleis knew. With each step, she became more aware of the new world around her; the soft whispering rustles of grass and wind were voices calling out to her, beckoning her, welcoming her. Soon, she would have to stop, to greet them as they had greeted her, to learn what it was they had to tell her. It was so beautiful here, so welcoming, so pleasant...yes, she knew this beautiful new world and she would be getting along. As if to confirm that fact, the smiling light seemed to wink at her, disappearing momentarily behind a dark cloud before reemerging with the same bright brilliance. Perhaps it would teach her how to wink in and out like that...

Name: Katherina Admeta Flora

Meaning: “Pure Untamed Flower” in Latin

Temper: Crooked

Personality: Katherina is a little on the twisted side.
She isn’t overly evil or overly good. She remains pretty neutral in that aspect.
But being twisted, she is completely composed on the outside and on the inside her mind is always racing.
Good ideas and bad ideas. Evil and good.
She will want to help someone one moment and then watch someone get killed the next.
She doesn’t have a stand on anything.
Morals don’t matter to her. If she feels it’s the right thing to do she will do it no matter the consequence.

Enjoying death is a simple pass time for her, but in no way would she ever cause it.
She isn’t violent. She may seem a little crazy or deranged at times though.
When she isn’t doing that, she is speaking with forest animals or bugs.
Big or small, even if they don’t want to listen to her.
Her favorites are spiders. She loves talking with them and enjoys watching them weave their webs.
She finds it completely fascinating.

A traveler by nature, she loves taking long walks through dangerous situations.
She doesn’t get a thrill from it either. It’s just something she likes to do.
She will climb the hardest mountain or brave a swamp full of god knows what.
She has no fear.

She can’t be controlled. No matter what anyone tries to do.
She is a free spirit and always will be.
A loner by nature, unless someone else can share her mindset or her madness, because she feels she has to be.
She is a creature of circumstance and approaches each situation differently depending on the day as well as her mood.

She really isn’t close with her family at all especially her brothers.
It’s something that she doesn’t really mind either.
They don’t bother her and she doesn’t bother them.
This has made her very weary of being family-oriented.
She isn’t the family type at all and large groups make her turn away.
She isn’t selfish, just a very uncomfortable mare since she isn’t into lovey-dovey things.

She is odd and will always be that way.

Prompt Response:

Prompt 2
Your father talks to spirits that linger around him, your mother coos as small bats flutter by and loves to look at pretty spider webs. What do you think about them? What do you think about what they like? Do hate creepy crawling things or do you love them?

Katherina had spent her first few days after popping out of her basket watching her parents and how they interacted with everything. She didn’t know how to feel at first as she watched her father speak with these weird floating spirits and then her mother would watch spider webs. It was strange, but at the same time she found it completely fascinating. She had found herself doing similar things. Speaking with spiders and chasing after bugs are just some of the pass times she enjoyed in her first couple days.

She was still embracing her inner being. Trying to figure herself out and why she loved doing similar weird or strange things that her parents seems to enjoy doing. She knew there was no way she was going to be able to simply know everything about herself right away. She was only a few days old. It took her nearly two days to learn how to walk properly, so with this it was going to take even more time.

Her brothers were doing who knew what. She didn’t pay much attention to them. Even after they popped, she kept to herself. She couldn’t really explain it either. It simply felt right to her.

Now she was staring at a beetle that was sitting there on a log looking like it was enjoying itself. She smiled watching it stare right back at her. “Hello, enjoying yourself? So am I.” She spoke softly to it and felt like this was the beginning of something she would do all the time. Something that most wouldn’t understand. Something that made her special.

An idea crossed her mind and slowly the side of her mouth arched up to form a smirk.

Name: Iimstra (first letter is an 'i')

Meaning: Spirit weaver

Temper: Solemn

Personality: Like any normal filly she loves playing, using her imagination, and exploring. Unlike most fillys she enjoys doing so in deep dark caves and goes about by herself. Like her parents she loves all things dark but perhaps her interests go even further. She has an intense interest in anything of the macabre type, especially death. Her favorite play things are usually dead (whether she put them in that state is another question). But perhaps her favorite things in the entire world are the spirits that hang about her father. She highly values anything they have to say and hopes to have her own one day.

Prompt Response:
Prompt 2 -
Iimstra was huddled in the deeps of a cave. Her eyes were drooping as morning threatened to dawn. She couldn't sleep because her mind was buzzing with her latest obsession. Spirits.
Of course she loved the critters that were always about her mother, the filly did have her own pet spider. Though when she woke she would have to investigate why poor Ichabod was missing a leg.
Right, spirits. Her father was her role model. She looked up to him and from being around him so much she came to know his spirits. They started off playing mean but all they had were words. Her love for death helped and she had so many questions for them. Were they real spirits? Do they remember their past lives? How did they come to be what they were? Where could she get her own? She played it careful to not ask too many questions at once. Iimstra would ask other things like if they had names. To which they said they didn't. She knew they had to have proper names so she would give them to them. Which was her current dilemma, what names fit them best?
Alas, sleep finally over took the filly and her dreams were filled with her spirit friends.

Name: Ladonna Moros

Meaning: " The Lady" combined with her fathers last name - "Lady Fate"

Temper: Deep

Personality: Ladonna, like her mother and father prefer the velvet embrace of the night, she lives to hear the song of the stars and the chirr of the nights creatures. She is a solitary soul and prefers to spend her nights contemplating deep thoughts and investigating why things do what they do, how does a spider on a dew speckled web create such intricate designs, and for what? She spends a lot of time watching and learning things. Though rarely does anyone ever hear her voice, she expresses herself through her eyes, for her eyes are the mirror to her soul and are just as deep.

While too, she is neither good nor evil, sort of a chaotic neutral, sometimes she can become disturbed by unnecessary violence, normally in small animals and might mete out justice as she sees it. Becoming the silent fate of whoever was responsible.

Prompt Response:
The sharp snapping of fresh wicker rang out into the gentle night, a dark basket wriggled on the ground, the material straining as it's occupant strained to free itself. Finally with a small keen the basket released it's charge, the bright wicker falling away to reveal a dainty filly, shaky legged and wide eyed - her eyes, a startling blue stared fixedly upon the bright gash in the sky she would find later to be the moon. The sound of late night creatures, the chirr of insects and the smell of late summer night flowers filled the air. It was comfortable, even though it was dark and she had yet to figure out what or who made the sounds he was hearing, she was not scared. She simply stood there in awe of the night and all of it's wonders, there was a tug in her tiny heart, she could hear the soft whispers of her parents, she started forward to greet them and suddenly her stomach grumbled mightily, she was hungry! Breaking out of ones basket was a bit of work! The noise startled her a bit and shyly she tucked her wings to her sides and with each shaky step, shook off the last bits of wicker towards what fate had in store for her.

Name: Sanja

Meaning: Dream

Temper: Dreamer

Personality: Sanja lives in a world of her own making. There are stories in her head behind everything and whether or not those stories are true Sanja believes them. The sky changes colors because it is actually a river and the starry fish are coming out to feed. Comets are birds that are trying to eat the starry fish. This is only a little of the way that Sanja explains the world to herself. It is a fanciful world that Sanja lives in, full of wonder and mysticism. Everything is amazing because of the story behind it if Sanja is just given the chance to find the story.

Unfortunately most of what she believes is not actually true. But if another Soquili or a familiar were to try and convince her of the “truth” Sanja would become belligerent, angry, and defensive. No one likes having their worldviews called into question and though Sanja is mostly peaceful she does not enjoy it one bit. After the conversation Sanja would sulk and become even more engrossed in the belief that had been challenged.

At no time does Sanja believe that anyone else has to believe the same thing that she does, but she pities those that don’t as being misguided and wrong. She feels it must be hard to live life without understanding it and goes out of her way to be extra kind to those unfortunate ones.

Prompt Response: Prompt 2:

Growing up her parents’ behavior or her parents’ like for the more macabre aspects of the world never seemed odd to Sanja. This was simply normal and fully explainable. It was only when she met another filly that questioned Sanja’s parents’ behavior and showed Sanja that the filly’s parents were “normal” that Sanja realized that other adults were different. But other adults are not better than Sanja’s parents, or more normal, they were in fact to be pitied like those that did not realize the truth of the world. Maybe her father’s spirits weren’t always the nicest but he always had someone around to talk to or to fight with if he felt like it. Her mother was able to appreciate the beauty in objects that no one else seemed to realize were beautiful. This made Sanja’s mother special and better than others. So it was with pity that Sanja left this filly that introduced her to the world beyond the caves and darkness behind. The filly was clearly not right in the head and insulting Sanja’s family. Sanja was not interested in being her friend.

The creepy crawling things were not things to sneer at or to dismiss. If observed carefully it is clear that they can change the world around them in ways that larger animals cannot. To Sanja this meant that they were closer to the spirits in essence than many other creatures and should be respected for their world changing abilities. So Sanja takes care to not disturb them whenever possible, will say hello and goodbye when borrowing their caves, and loves to sit and watch them work. There is beauty there in the organization and efficiency. Sanja pities those that cannot see what she does, and has pride that her family is one of the ones that has realized the truth.

Name: Nyxteia

Meaning: Nyx was the Grecian goddess of the night.

Temper: Poetic

Personality: Nyxteia is as enraptured with the night as her parents are. She is comforted by the constant presence of the moon and stars, who are always there when she wakes up. The softer colors provided by the golden moon and the silver-white stars that keep it company are joyous shades. Having never witnessed the light of day, she doesn't have anything to compare moonlight to. She might go seek out the sun when she's older, but for the time being, she's more than pleased to stay with what she knows.

She has yet to become at ease with the spiders that are always scuttering around her mother, but she has a fondness for the bats who will occasionally come to rest in her mane. They're so sweet and they don't mean to bother anybody, so how could she not love them?

There is something that she loves more than the nighttime or the bats that go out in it. Her family!
Nyxteia loves her family and everyone in it. Her mother, for her shared love of bats. Her father, for teaching her about the world of spirits and the revealing the hidden glories of the night. Her brothers, for playing and laughing with her so often, as they all strive to explore the new world around them!
Her family will always be the most important thing to Nyxteia, even if they go their separate ways, she'll always find her way back to them. All she'll have to do is follow the moon, right?

Prompt Response: Prompt 3 - Nyxteia's Haikus

Quiet melodies
Surround the Soquili foal
Whispers of the night.

Cooing over bats
Mother teaches dark magic
Magic of the mind.

Spirits chattering
Father glows beneath the moon
How noble he looks.

Playing with brothers
Laughter only heard at night
What is this "sunlight"?

Many games to play
Try to catch a falling star
"I'll do it some day!"

Silver grass beneath
Obsidian sky between
Golden moon above.

Name of a goddess
What adventures will she face?
