Tonight was the second time in the last five years Zia had powered her a** up. She was a little less rusty. The sensory boost felt a little less foreign, but it was still a weird feeling and now that she was prowling around in the Norwegian forest cat form there were still signs of stiffness and not totally natural movement in her gait.
It was easing into a subtlety now, and not much in the way of actual maneuvering, but none of this ease of movement had made up for the fact that she was not supposed to be powering up, or mirrorwalking, or leaving the city.
Or in this case returning to the city. But still, her mind was swarming with very deliberate and emphatic, "You are a goddamn moron."
Her return route had been preplanned this time. The large slab mirror in the bathroom of her suburban home had been where she'd come in before when she walked Kairatos out the border, but this time she had set up a mirror large enough to accommodate her cat form in a nook she felt was a suitable distance away. Far enough to avoid suspicion if caught, close enough for a short trip home. The last thing she wanted was to cause an aura spark where it would be sensed near her home, and even worse, if her family found out anything about this.
It was just a one time thing. It was never going to happen again. Until it did and now it was just a two time thing and she was doing her usual panic-all-the-way-home.
She phased through the mirror and took two steps, keeping low to the ground in a very deliberate 'prowl' that was cut short.
One large paw was still extended in front of her when she froze. Her yellow eyes were wide and focused and she had just about doubled in size from the fur along her spine standing on end. If she hadn't stopped she would've walked right into him, and that would've been embarrassing. It would probably be twice as embarrassing if he turned out to be a Chaos cat all ready to turn her in or something.
Didn't even offer a greeting. Just stood there in mid-step and silence. Maybe if she didn't say anything he'd go away. Although it was probably too much to hope he hadn't seen her since they had nearly collided and she was a bright shock of lilac in the dark.

Faust often fancied himself a Mauvian superhero when he ventured out on his own, cloaked in the thralls of light with naught but his bright star to offer signs of his presence. Often he roleplayed mentally during these situations - stalking mere passersby under faux suspicion of Negaverse standing, or shadowing agents themselves in preparation of some fantastically dreamt triumph that left the pair of patrollers naught more than an unrecognizable stain on the ground. He mentally meandered toward flawless victories over youma, their bodies collapsing to ash beneath his soft paw sporting sharp claws. In his deepest fantasies, ones far beyond those indulged in on nights like these, he fancied himself a hero's name to bear in the dark - the Marauder.
Suddenly an aura crept into his thoughts, prompting the cat to flatten to an almost impossible degree, and only when he realized the strange and unidentifiable aura emanated from directly behind him did he finally venture to turn around. And surely enough, an equally startled lilac cat stared back at him, paw still raised, possibly questioning whether to swat the black cat or relent.
For a long time afterward, Faust (or rather, the Marauder) simply stared into the golden eyes of the other feline, waiting for some action to go down between them. Only when he realized the star on her forehead bore no dark color did he finally relax enough to speak, though he never fully relented in his alerted stance.
Unfortunately, the sole line that he blurted into the deafening silence between them offered little in the name of venturing toward kinship. "So uh... Nice view, right?" He asked with a twitch of his stumpy tail.
"Oh, and where the hell did you jus' come from?"
