July was caught on school property with a weapon three months ago. An investigation into her family life revealed it was, at best, neglectful--and neglect is still abuse--
and her father had just been arrested--and her paternal relatives disavowed her, leaving her in the care of her maternal aunt and uncle, both of whom are currently overseas and unable to get her. Hence, St Mags. July resents it a little, but she has a good relationship with the nuns, so she doesn't mind it too terribly awfully.
Hobbies: Knife Tricks - July grew up in a family where there was a lot of value attached to masculinity and the ability to do the ultraviolence. Being as small as she is--a diminutive 4'11" with a possibility for one or two more inches, and smaller in middle school--straight up brawling with her brothers was no more likely to end well than any other method of resistance she knew of. So she took up trying to intimidate her family. July's feats of legerdemain with knives and anything vaguely knife-like in dimension are nigh-magical; she can palm a butter knife without much effort at all, flip them, etc.
Gymnastics - July has been taking gymnastics classes since she was about four years old, and before her admittance to St Mags (at the age of 14) was competitive on the state level. Just because she's out of the professional circuit doesn't mean she doesn't still practice, though; if she's not out flipping a knife around, she's probably doing double back flips or standing tucks in the hallway. She aspires to someday figure out parkour and become a stunt woman.
Dance - Picked up very recently; her maternal aunt and uncle are both seeking things to keep her busy, and Saturday dance classes are one of the things they've chosen. She's taking basic ballet courses right now, but is signed up to take a lyrical dance intensive sponsored by the Destiny City Ballet over the summer.
Cooking - Home Ec is July's first favorite class. (The second is PE.) She has a natural flair for design and cooking, which comes together to mean
her home ec projects never get less than an A. As a lab partner, she's very in demand, but kind of terrible at following recipes--so when she messes up, she messes up hard, but when she doesn't her food is at least two times more delicious than it really ought to be. If she's not doing knife tricks or double back flips, she is probably in the home ec classroom, quietly and industriously making cupcakes or waxing the floor.
Virtues: Confident -- July is intelligent, and she knows it. She's friendly, and she knows it. She's fit and active and pretty, and she knows it. This might explain why she's willing to put herself out there, over and over again, to get things done that others might be less than excited to do. She's always the first to volunteer for something, always the loudest voice at the party, and beyond that, completely shameless at her core.
Decisive -- July doesn't take time to think about things. She's got an answer for your question before you even finish it, doesn't waffle about her wardrobe, doesn't wait to see what other opportunities might pop up before committing--she takes the good things she sees and sticks to it. Even when being made to choose her own punishment, she will choose the first thing that she hears that doesn't sound abjectly terrible without much consideration.
Flaws: Professional over-reactor -- July takes every slight against her very seriously, and that is to say, she reacts the same way to someone calling her a name as someone cutting in line in front of her. And she reacts the same to someone cutting in line in front of her as she does to someone actively harming her: with rage, and shouting, and thrown fists.
July needs to go to anger management. Unfortunately, she's probably going to go to juvie first.
Self-absorbed -- July is like, fourteen, and so being, has a very limited conception of how the emotions of others affect her. She has the potential to be a really sweet, protective person, but there's about thirty thousand layers of self-interest between her and that sweet, protective person. She doesn't really stop to think about others, and isn't too great about considering how things affect people who aren't hers. She doesn't really think of other people as very
real, right? So their emotional troubles barely impact her at all. She cuts in line, punches before talking things out, and deliberately harasses people who seem troubled just to assert her own superiority. She believes in the alpha-beta-omega theory of interpersonal relationships.
