A beautiful, lush forest that connects Nix City to Applegate City. A serene, quiet place, the forest is home to many different kinds of Pokémon such as bug and grass types that love the large trees and tall grass. There are also smaller trees blocking the way here and there, making it impossible to proceed further into the forest without something to cut them down.

It was a slow trek, but an important one. As they laboriously made their way through the brush, Laram made sure to stop Shadow every couple of minutes or so, so he could take a breather. Every time they did, Jack disappeared into the trees and came back with items. It surprised Laram, but he accepted them gratefully. At first, the rabbit returned with his arms full of Lum berries. He did this a second time, and Laram noticed that his cheek was extended. He must have stored away a berry. The third time he returned, he had a small mushroom in his hands. The fourth, and final time, he actually came back with a potion. "Wow Jack. That's a good haul. You're a bit of a scavenger huh?"The Bunnelby nodded and began to hop along his trainer again."We're almost through. But I warn you. This part of the forest is home to Trevenant. They don't like trespassers."Laram had never heard of Trevenant before. But they sounded dangerous. All the more reason to find the little girl and get out of the forest.
Laram's thoughts were interrupted by the sound of crying, and what could only be described as battle. They must have found her. Trish didn't hear it, but Laram's ears were very good. He sprinted off toward the sound, leaving everyone else scrambling to follow. As he approached the sound, the trees thinned out and became a small clearing. In it, there was indeed a small child, but something else Laram did not expect. A tree had come to life, and was trying to attack the little girl, but a green monkey was giving everything he had to stave off the ghostly tree. Laram didn't think. He just acted. He sprinted to the child and snatched her from the ground. He left the clearing and shoved her into Trish's arms."Get her out of here!"The ranger nodded and sprinted off in the direction they came. Laram couldn't leave yet. He had to help the child's savior. He rushed back into the clearing with his team following. "Shadow. Use cut. Zeus, Air slash. Jack, Bounce."Laram's team sprang into action to fulfill their trainer's commands.
Jack, and Zeus hit their target, but Shadow's attack seemed to pass right through the possessed tree, but it still reeled back from the onslaught. This gave Laram enough time to scan it, and the green monkey. The tree was called Trevenant, and the other Pansage. The Pokedex told Laram that it was a grass/ghost, and a grass type respectively. Whatever that meant. But before Laram could read anything useful, it disappeared into a black hole of some sort. It was terrifying because it appeared out of nowhere. Then suddenly, it reappeared behind Laram and struck him in the back. Falling on his face, Laram realized that whatever it had done, it was essentially teleportation. That was going to be tough to beat. Laram also noted that Shadow's knife had no effect on it.Maybe that has something to do with this whole "typing" thing. It would make sense, the Pokedex assigns a type to their attacks too. It's a ghost. So let's try ghost. "Shadow, use lick. Zeus, aerial ace; Jack, use double kick. Pansage...I don't know what you can do. Use whatever you think would work."
The Pansage didn't have time to question why Laram was giving him orders. But it was obvious that he was trying to help. So he complied. As Jack's feet passed right through the Trevenant, Zeus struck it from behind, while Shadow wrapped his tongue around its' eyes. Pansage followed suit and lassoed the tree with a green vine. The monkey used this to jump directly onto the creature and crunch down on its' bark with his fangs.Jack's attack passed right through this time. This thing must be immune to certain physical attacks.Laram didn't have to think long, because the creature disappeared in a black hole again. This time, releasing a ghostly wail that chilled Laram to his bones. He tensed up, waiting for the impending attack, and waited; and waited. A full minute went by before he relaxed himself and breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed to be over for the moment. Laram watched the Pansage crumple, and he ran over and picked him up. The monkey was exhausted, and injured pretty badly. Laram took one of the potions from his pack and used the entire bottle on the Pokemon. It perked up and jumped out of his arms quizzically.
"Hi there. My name is Laram. This is Shadow, Zeus, and Jack...Jack?" Laram realized that Jack was missing, and panicked. However, it was short lived, as the rabbit came hopping into the clearing with a tiny mushroom in his hand...again. Laram sighed, and accepted the plant. "You're going to give me a heart attack one of these times. But as I was saying, this is Jack. Thank you for helping that little girl. You handle yourself pretty well. What do you think about coming with us? We could use another good fighter on our team."Laram didn't know what he was doing, but he had a good feeling about the small figure in front of him. He felt like he would fit in perfectly into the little family that was growing. The Pansage scratched his chin, and eventually shook his head yes. Laram, excited, reached into his bag and retrieved a Pokeball."This is just to keep you safe from other trainers. You will never go in one of these without your consent, or if you're dying. I promise."Laram knelt down and held out the capsule with his hand. After hesitating for a second, Pansage placed his hand on the button and was "captured'. As soon as it was finalized, Laram released him."Glad to have you. Let's get out of here."
Yamamoto really knew what he was doing. He had helped teach Regals Pidgeotto, Icarus, how to use the move Detect to help avoid damage in combat, and now the bird Pokémon was flying circles around the Hawlucha it was battling. The dual fighting type Pokémon ended up missing its High Jump Kick attack and injuring its knee, giving Regal the perfect opportunity to catch it. Of course, he missed his target by a mile. The trainer was still struggling to throw balls using his left hand and Yamamoto seemed content to watch him flail about. They caught the luchador Pokémon in the end using a Fast Ball though, so alls well that ends well. Now to see what else they could find.
In addition to the Hawlucha, Regal also managed to catch himself a wild Munchlax and Karrablast by having Magnolia use Sweet Scent to lure the duo into a false sense of security before paralyzing them with Stun Spore. Finally, the two men came across a wild Leavanny which was the last Pokémon on the list of one of their capture requests. At the master's suggestion, the trainer decided to battle it using Regis instead of Nova, who would have had little to no challenge thanks to his fire attacks. The two Pokémon went back and forth clashing against one another with Night Slash and Leaf Blade, but a well timed Thunder Wave eventually brought the bug type Pokémon to its knees in defeat. Many clumsy throws later and Regal had yet another capture under his belt.
"Only one left." Yamamoto encouraged him as the two finished placing the barricades and signs for the upcoming contest. It was comforting to hear, as the trainers arm was getting all kinds of sore from the intense work out it had been through. The master suggested a hot soak in the bath house after they returned for the day, and Regal couldn't have agreed more. None of his other teachers had ever pushed him like this, and the younger man felt a chill go down his spine at the thought of what day two was going to look like after the day they'd had today. No sense complaining about it, though. He'd known what he was signing up for when he agreed to train under him. He would just need to take things one step at a time.

Being the first one in the forest had given Regal a major advantage. Having taken off running the moment Jarvis had teleported him in, the trainer wasted no time in getting down to business. He had the Porygon fire off an indiscriminate Discharge attack and went to town throwing Sport Balls at any bug Pokémon downed by the surprise attack. A Yanma, Grubbin, Sewaddle and Swadloon made for a nice little bundle to start off the competition. It was like shooting fish in a barrel.
The real prize was a wild Heracross that he came across as he approached a grove of honey trees. The powerful bug type seemed to be searching for a place to eat its fill of lunch, which gave Regal an idea. Setting out some of the Honey Magnolia had gathered up, the trainer had his Cutiefly use Sweet Scent to draw out the hungry Pokémon without a fight. Delighted with the feast, the Heracross ate all the Honey Regal had on his person before deeming itself full. Which was fine by him, because it was so full and content that it barely put up a struggle after the trainer threw a Sport Ball at it.
Five Pokémon in total, and Regal was sure that his Heracross would be worth more points than an average size bug. An excellent start. The other trainers were out in full force now though, which meant he had to hustle if he wanted keep his lead. He was pretty satisfied that he had caught plenty of value in his current section of the forest, so the trainer packed up and began racing towards another section to keep catching more Pokémon. He could already hear them announcing first place.
