The night had drawn about the land cold and wet, the rain a steady trickle through the leaves high above his head to dampen his fur and the rhythmic drumming of it echoing down from the canopy above. Shaking his great maned head for the millionth time he huffed a breath, watching as it rose in a tiny cloud of steam to disipate above him. Stepping over a root uncovered by the rains, unseen in the damp gloom, the Captain continued on his patrol.

It had taken a long time to reach the land of the Stormborn, and now that he was here he had to admit the name was pretty apt for the place. Since it had not stopped raining all day and well into the night. Shaking the water from his fur once again he flicked his tail, feeling the wet slap of the longer tip against his flank. Well... he supposed he would get used to it, and surely it couldn't rain all the time.
Suddenly he kenw he wasn't alone. Not that the stranger made any obvious sounds, it was just a prickling in the air, a sense of weight and power that made his fur stiffen. HAving lived so long as a rogue he had become sensative to the nearness of others and this one was close...
Well, no time like the present. he was here for a reason after all.
Letting out a great roar he sprang forwards, towards the heaviness and into a sort of clearing, as far as he could tell in the rain-denched darkness.

Right before the roar sounded, Lucivar had tensed, scenting someone strange on the forest's damp breeze. The roar of a challenge didn’t surprise him after and with an easy turn he lept right towards the noise, issuing his own vicious roar of battle.
Barely able to make out the dim shape of a lion in the darkness, guided mainly by the flash of white the outlander bore, he charged forwards, claws extending as he swipped at the male. The collision of the two massive furry bodies drove his breath from him in a woosh though it didn't slow him down as he twisted, fangs snagging on the stranger's mane, seeking his throat, as his large and powerful front paws went round his neck, grappling.

The collision wasn't unexpected but the sheer size of his rival was. Asher was a pretty big lion, his father had been an absolutly massive male though his mother's diminutive size had tempered both her sons' growth, they were each still big males.
Evidently his opponant was just as big as him, and judging from the sudden shove, was made of solid muscle. A Captain then? Quite possibly, and he was showing not inconsiderable skill with his quickly he had gotten a good hold on Asher. Still, he wasn't just a big lion, h ehad fought in his share of scuffles in the rguelands as well.
Bracing his hindquarters he took both their weight, tucking his chin low as he felt fangs digging for the vulnerable underside of his throat. Wrapping his own front legs round the Stormborn male he roared again, shoving with all his strength.

The sudden roar didn't worry him, though it did make his ears ring with the force and volumn from such close range. Nor was it was the sudden shove back which he had honestly expected. What he had forgotten to take into consideration, and which was really a rooky mistake, was the ground underfoot.
The sudden shove forced his weight back, which in turn pushed him deeper into the slushy mud, and with no roots to give it stability the earth gave way to their combined force. Paws slipping in the slick muck he scrambled frantically for a better purchase, claws raking deep grooves in the mud only for them to fill up with water.
With a furious growl he let the outlander go and jumped back, but swipped out with his claws as he did so, scoring a deep gash on the unknown male's shoulder.
Padding slowly he circled the big male, eyeing him through the thick shadows, waiting for the oppertunity to attack.

He felt the stranger's stance shift, rapidly loosing his grip as the ground under foot turned even more treacherous. He would have fell forwards on top of the other male simply from the sudden lack of resistance, yet his own paws slid in the mud and he had to yank himself sideways to prevent himself from toppling over. But as unplanned as the move was it saved him from those deadly claws and the injury wasn't half as nasty as it would have been had he stayed where the pride male expected him to be.
Without giving the other a chance to regroup he launched himself forwards once again, giving up on strategy and finesse with such bad footing and instead relying on brute strength. All he had to do was keep the upperpaw.

The rapid counter attack was met by Lucivar, his musuclar body powering forwards unflinching. The collission of the two powerful males made the ground shake as they threw all of their impressive weight against the other. Snarls and growls issued from wide open jaws as they grappled and slid, strugling as much against the thick glutanious mud as they did each other. Unfortunatly for Luicvar the ground under him was slightly lower than his opponant, and therefor was more fully waterlogged. Its thick sluge-like texure hampering his efforts and draining his strength.
Suddenly he slid again, loosing his balance just as the other male shoved forwards. While it wasn;t as powerful as it could have been, as the stranger was also fighting for his balance, it was enough to send Lucivar tipping backwards. There was nothing he could do to save himself as he landed heavily on his back. His grip round the challanger's shoulders dragging the other male down with him, so they landed in an ungainly heap in the thick mud.

The sudden lack of resistance was unexpected, as was the weight that abruptly dragged him off his paws and down atop his opponant, winding both of them. Gasping from the impact and spitting mud and leaves from his mouth he struggled to find enough perchase with his claws to lift himself off the other male. Embarassment making him forget their battle and simply want up.
Abruptly a deep, husky laugh sounded from below, the pride male, still flat on his back with Asher squirming about on top of him desperatly, had evidently tickled the guy's funny bone. Finally leavering himself up and off the other lion Asher stepped back, carefully, and spat more mud out. "Damnit... Sorry bout that."

Laying there, with the cold, slimy muck squelching up around his shoulders and flanks, with the heavy weight of the stranger struggling atop him, Lucivar couldn't help himself. This was the most ridiculous fight he had ever been in. The rain, the mud, the darkness, and the fact that neither of them could even stand up long enough to be a threat just became too much and a husky, breathless laugh broke through his control.
When at last the stranger had managed to climb off him Lucivar rolled over onto his side, pulling a face at the cold clammy sensation of the mud covering his body. "No need... This is clearly not going to work.." Still chuckling he carefully stood, standing splay-legged to avoid going over again. He still had some patches that weren’t mud-splattered after all. "I give up. We wont get a decent fight in with this mess under paw. You're in stranger." Pausing he wrinkled his nose then copied the other male and spat mud out to the side of them. "Ugh. What's your name?"

The rumbling laughter finally allowed him to relax. At least his opponant saw the funny side of the situation. The offered comment made him tip his head, but with a shrug he grinned. "Well then.. I'm not about to refuse that am I." He replied, he knew he was good enough to fight his way in, and if the pride's defender offered him a place after that sorry excuse of a match, he wasn't going to say no. "I'm Asher." He added, carefully step-sliding forwards to draw up next to the opther male.
Nodding as the stranger offered his own name in return, Asher chuckled. "Good to meet you Captain Lucivar. Is there anywhere to clean up and may be get out of this rain?" He asked.
Luicvar's nod was a relief and they set off, the Captain leading Asher through the darkness. Well, it seemed he was in. That had been.... an experience. But he was looking forward to cleaning off the mud and settling down for the night. Maybe he would even run into Luicvar again, he seemed like he could be a good friend...
