Oh, this was so incredibly, epically, amazingly exciting! Sibbi was over the moon, more exhilarated than she'd ever before been in the whole of her young life. And while it was true the excitement was only fractionally as dramatic as it would have been if she'd, oh...seen a Kelpi, it was still pretty big. Pretty mountainous, in fact!
And those mountains stretched around her in every direction, poking their grey selves up into the sky like so many upturned noses. Having been born and brought up in the lowlands, the mountains had always had an element of mystery for Sibbi, so when her daddy Safi had asked her one morning, completely out of the blue,
'Would you like to try flying into the mountains, Siblet?' it had only taken her a moment to say yes! The trip had been exhausting for Sibbi's little wings, and it had taken father and daughter a few days to get where they were going, but what an experience it had been!
Safi had been on his way to visit an old herdmate who currently resided in the high mountains, and decided to bring Sibbi along as a chance for her to see new places and meet new people. Besides, he wasn't above showing off his cute little daughter! She was such a precocious thing, he knew she'd enjoy the trip and the novelty.
And by golly, he was right! After talking things over with his friend, he had agreed to let Sibbi run about on her own a bit; after all, you're only young and in a totally new place once! After extracting a promise from his daughter that she would avoid edges or inclines, gravelly places, and caves, he let her go, trying not to worry about the fact his little girl was growing up.
For her part, Sibbi harbored no such worries. Much as she loved her daddy and was loving this one-on-one time with him all to herself, the idea of having a good prowl around the mountains was too awesome to pass up! Daddy's friend seemed very nice, but she was old, just like Daddy and Papa; there was only so much old Soquili talk an active little filly could listen to at once without going batty!
So she had scampered off down the path, making her way higher into the hills and admiring the views. You'd think that up in the mountains, everything would be grey; however, she'd already discovered in their initial climb that there were mountain meadows and plains, and even trees and flowers! There were lots of rocks besides, and a lot of things were slanty and at an angle, but really, it was a lot different than what she'd imagined. Giggling as she made her way up a particularly slanty section of path, she announced to no one in particular, "It's not NEARLY so diff'rent as I thought, just a lot more slanty! Slanty, and up and down," she amended as the path abruptly angled downwards. But in spite of that, it was pretty darn fun!
