Eventually everyone left her. The cubs she had raised and protected left her in order to spread their wings. The lion she had had her fling with took off leaving their son in her care. Then her son Timeus, the son she thought would never leave her side, had left in order to seek out his father. She had always had someone by her side, to keep her company.
But now she was truly alone.
She could feel a rush of anger as she thought about it. Alone in the plains, she tried to hit a flower that had been close to her, only to end up missing. She stopped and slumped to the ground, feeling sorry for herself.
Ferskja had put her cubs first and took care of their needs before she worried about herself. She had always imagined that they would grow up to be by her side and take care of her as she aged. Faustus, she knew would end up leaving her. Though he did end up staying with her much longer then any of her other offspring did. She felt like he only did so because he felt required to keep her safe.
As she laid in the grassy plains, she picked the flower and gently placed it behind her ear. It was a gesture the lion who wooed her would have done. She had regretted having Faustus, but she never regretted the fling. It had given her a few moment where she had felt special. She gave a heavy sigh. It was something that would only happen once in her lifetime.
