Only a true Southerner knows the difference between a hissie fit and a conniption.

Nobody but a true Southerner knows how many fish make up a mess.

A true Southerner can show or point out to you the general direction of yonderways.

A true Southerner knows exactly how long "directly" is - as in "Going to town, be back directly."

Even true Southern babies know that "Gimme some sugar" is not a request for the white, granular sweet substance that sits in a pretty little bowl in the middle of the table.

All true Southerners know exactly when "by and by" is.

True Southerners know instinctively that the best gesture of solace for a neighbor who's got trouble is a plate of hot fried chicken and a big bowl of cold 'tater salad. (If the trouble is a real crisis, they also know to add some hot biscuits and "nanner puddin'.)

True Southerners grow up knowing the difference between "pert' near" and "a right far piece."

True Southerners both know and understand the differences between a redneck, a good ol' boy, and po' white trash.

No true Southerner would ever assume that the car with the flashing turn signal is actually going to make a turn.

True Southerners know that "fixin" can be used both as a noun, verb and adverb

Ah, how true it is my Southern brother! *LOL*

Seriously, I do love a lot of things about the South. Man, both sides of my family are INCREDIBLY Southern. Where are you from in the South? I'm in a small little town in GA.

Was born in Spartanburg, S. Carolina, and raised in Greer, S. Carolina up until I was 24 years old. Then I moved up here to Kansas City, Missouri.
Greer is known for the United States BMW car plant. It was located just 4 miles from where I lived. You can usually find Greer on a map, it's located in between Greenville and Spartanburg.
PS- Just in case any confusion ever comes up, I am not in any way, shape or form related to or associated with this "Darth_Arcturus" person. Thank you.

Very cool, dude. I have relatives in both North and South Carolina. In fact, my dad was born in Greenville South Carolina but my Grandparents eventually relocated the fam here to Georgia, where my folks met and married.

I'm from Dallas, sugar. Been in yankee territory most of my life, though.... so.... I wouldn't call myself true Southerner.

Though my politics are rather Dixiecratic.

Aww... This makes me sad...
15 years in Dallas and I STILL ain't a true Southerner...
Oh well.

I live in New York now but I can relate to all of the above. I lived down south for almost all of my childhood.

I know exactly what all of those phrases are about. I've live in North Carolina for all my life, with brief absences to live in SC and KY. So yeah, I understand what you're talking about. And ain't it just amazing how smart I can sound over the internet, lol.
