s**t was getting weird.
Resistance members looking her up, trouble being brought to her home, Zia was distinctly not happy with the jeopardizing of her little suburban lifestyle she had carved out amid the chaotic new world order. She wondered how long she could afford to ignore Luxor's participation.
She'd been wrapped up in these thoughts for days, and they weren't helping the awkward states accessing Zirconia's memories put her in. She'd been fighting to keep the parallel soul implanted in her dormant for all these years that attempting to delve into the old cat's memories usually triggered weird, trance like states of mind that caused her to lose track of time.
Even outside of those trances she was still walking around in a daze, absorbed in thought and mostly just frowning at everything.
She was walking the dog, hoping that would take her mind off of things but it just provided a new platform to be assaulted by unpleasant thoughts in a more quiet setting. She turned up the walkway to the door, fumbling with her keys in quiet disappointment when the rottweiler mix at the end of his leash bristled and emitted an unsettled growl. Someone was coming.

Pyrite's clipboard was full of paperwork, as well as her satchel. It was catch up day- meaning time to go and check in on those who'd been skimping of their donations. It was nothing personal, she didn't want to force anyone but really, it was every good citizen's duty to donate. How else would they fight of the terrorists? The woman who's name was on her list, colorful photo to match had just arrived home from walking her dog, who in Pyrite's mind. was already something to be removed if that was how it would behave to those who would have kept his adoring master alive. "Hello there!" She smiled, holding up her clipboard. "Are you the ah- Miss Connolly?" Pyrite looked down again at her dog. "I need to speak with you in regards to some recently missed donations."

The mutt on the end of Zia's leash was rarely threatening. Husky, rottweiler, and god knows what else, he was usually a floppy eared, barrel chest, thick furred dumbass who ran into the walls when he forgot what he was doing.
But he still had a purpose and it was generally being the guard dog for the small little territory his master carved out, even if it was a well disguised suburban home and the borders of Connolly sovereign were lined with shrubbery. He reacted to the approach with increased threat in his posture.
But when Zia saw the officer for herself, and when she announced her purposed for being there, she could feel her stomach drop.
"I..." Her mouth gaped stupidly for answers.
She seemed to snap back into reality all at once and conceive that the dog was actually a liability. She couldn't afford to have him snapping at an officer. She tugged on his leash and held the handle close to her chest.
"I'm sorry, I just-- I've been distracted, I guess I forgot what day it was."
Which was a lame excuse unless she was so far off of her days she forgot the week. Which she had, it just indicated more problems than she wanted to reveal, especially since none of the excuses could be the truthful, I've just been so distracted by the resistance refugees funneling through my house and the creepy parallel soul in my chest, that's all!.
She tried to muster up all the humility inside her before speaking, but there was a spark of hostility there she couldn't seem to fully douse.
"I'll go first thing in the morning, there's really no need for a check in."

Pyrite did enjoy the sense of superiority she had when people hesitated and stumbled. In control and powerful- just the reasons she loved doing her job as an agent of the negaverse, bumpy ride or not. Power trips were very much her kind of trip- though it was more a vacation at this point. "Hrm, it happens. That's why then me out, just to do the little check ups, make sure that nothing dire has happened or you haven't fallen ill." Green eyes flicked with delight when the woman's words came with a spark- "I'm afraid these checks are mandatory. Do you mind?" She motioned to the house. "It's much nice to speak inside than out. Plus going over your..personal information out here is a bit unethical you know? Privacy and all that." Pyrite failed to see the hypocrisy in her words.

Yes, I mind.
The phrase was on the tip of Zia's tongue and she had to grit her teeth down from articulating it for real. A strained smile found its way to her face and she unlocked the door with a welcoming gesture inviting the officer in. Her skin was crawling for the entire motion.
The home was almost too staged to look normal, and looked less like a place people lived in and more like a Pottery Barn catalog. There was a baby gate which might've indicated there were 2.5 kids involved in this equation but its purpose was quickly revealed when the tense rottweiler got shuffled behind it to avoid any scandalous confrontations.
Zia did her best to push the bile down and show Pyrite to a seat, smoothing her skirt and trying to play the good hostess.
"Can I get you something to drink or do you not plan to stay that long?" The flat tone made the implications and hopes behind the sentiment more than clear.

A sugar sweet smile, Pyrite walked in like she owned the place. "Thank you." She resisted the urge to just tilt a picture frame, annoy the woman. Getting under skins and knowing they could nothing. Sitting down and smoothing her skirt, Pyrite flipped to a page looking over a few records. Nothing to suggest anything but it was so fun to torment them, drop that little paranoia in them, get them to offer those they suspected. "Water will be fine. You have a lovely home, so.." picturesque. "... quaint. Once you're all comfortable I'll just do a quick few questions and be on my way. Unless..." She lifted the board to tap her chin. "You have something perhaps of concern you might be unable to share under normal circumstances?"
