He'd been walking a while now, since about dusk. He watched as various civilians, the majority of which were now familiar faces due to the closed community they were basically being forced to live in, started settling down for the night. Parents prepared dinner with what resources were on hand, children still running a muck and, after getting an earful from a parent, being told to wash up and help set the table. It was almost ideal given the situation, yet with each passing glance at the cityscape of Destiny City he was reminded that it could be better.
Should be better.
For all the them. His mind jumped to the little place he'd begun calling his home with what was left of his family. It was a stark comparison to what life had been like before the Negaverse had taken control of the city, particularly for his baby sister (though she was too young to remember much of anything of that life) but they made due. They had to, just like everyone else.
Ashur sighed and tried his best to push the thoughts aside. Comparing their old life and their current one wouldn't help anything, and all it did was make him worry for his sister's future even more so than usual.
As his walk brought him back around toward the back edge of the camp, his eyes caught on red patches and faint glimmers against the fading light as he gave the area a sweeping look. There was a slightest hint of a pause in his step, and the corners of his mouth turned up into a faint smile as he slowly made his way toward her. It was funny how working alongside your partner sometimes meant barely ever getting to see them. Outside of their home he didn't get too many chances to spend time with her; hell, it was sometimes even hard to catch her at home. For the most part, at best they checked in on each other every so often at random points in the day. Sometimes they'd exchange looks or passing glances or subtle hand holds and squeezes; just touching base. Private moments were just...harder to come by now. And he was fine with that.
For the most part.
Her subtle glance back told him she knew he was there, and as soon as he was able to he reached out. His arms found their way around her waist and he pulled her into a gentle hug, but he kept quiet. Let the silence draw out a little as he held her; there were times, he'd learned over the years, when it was all that was needed.

He'd gotten taller.
It was strange how that thought struck every now and then, but there it was. Once, she'd been taller than him--well, even in height, but with her tendency for heels she'd gotten her inches over him. But that distance had shrank. Then vanished. And increased again. Only she was the one looking up, and all the while baffled by it. Her source of playful teasing had been squashed permanently.
The figure of tan and sky blue--cliche, but how could she not compare him to an oasis at times?--had caught her eye the moment he'd wandered into the area. Yet a part of her wasn't sure he'd wander her way. Maybe he was en route to a project? A mission? Hell, bed? So when his arms wrapped around her, she leaned back into him. She let her eyes drift shut, and for a tiny moment, shut out the rest of the world. She didn't want to think about the war, or the less than ideal living conditions so many people pushed to survive in, or her own grievances. Even the awkward sensation of leaning against someone while in metal armor was a comfort she just wanted to absorb and--childish? Maybe--cling to.
Her hands covered his, fingers threading between his, and her breath came out in a long, light sigh. She wasn't sure she wanted to talk. What was there to say? What wasn't there to say? How long until his sister or cousin found them? Her fingers squeezed his lightly, a thumb moving in light circles over his. Themiscyra opened her eyes, and she began to toy with the thought of powering down. And if he'd mind staying powered for a bit longer if she did. And what were the chances of someone catching sight of that if she went with that.
_ p a o cx Idk what this is HERE she's getting sappy omg

He'd be lying if he said he didn't miss it -- the normalcy. The domesticity. What could have passed a boring back before all hell broke loose. The light jabs, the wrestling matches, all the take-out they used to buy. How she used to tease him, the way that she laughed, that ridiculously disarming smile. Her smile. Damn, did he miss her smile. The one he'd deemed her "signature" long before anything actually happened between them, in his own private thoughts. Thoughts he'd shared some time later and they had a fun little conversation about. He couldn't even remember the last time he saw that smile...
Ashur timed his breathing with hers almost subconsciously, enjoying the feel of her fingers in his. He squeezed her lightly before lowering his head a bit and pressing a kiss to her temple. "Jasmyn was asking about you," he said quietly, figuring he could give her a little update on the home front. He'd stopped by during one of his rounds, just to check up on them before they were asleep in case he had to stay out late. His baby sister had taken to Danika fairly quickly, grew up to look up to her and rely on her over the years. "Said she misses you."
Ash paused and sighed lightly then, ultimately resting his chin in the space between her neck and her shoulder. "I do, too."
He let that hang in the air for a bit, wondered if he ought to keep pursuing that line of conversation in such a public space. He'd long since abandoned his beliefs on not acting like a couple while powered up; he was almost always powered up now, so...that just didn't fly anymore. But normally they'd always try to keep their private conversations private, or as private as they could manage now. Ball was in her court though, and if she'd rather talk shop he'd understand.Kaefaux So.. it was a little hard to wander away from sappy. OTL

She could have stayed there for longer, rolling the thoughts around her head and toy with concepts. The contact was welcomed. Immensely. The kiss? Almost enough to bring her back through the years. As he began to speak though, she wavered between the time periods. Unsure how to take the news--laugh? Promise she'd try to make more time for Jasmyn? Or take into consideration the time she needed to spend powered--and all the aspects there of. Oh she liked the girl, and indeed had come to deeply care for her over the years. Helping to raise children wasn't a new concept for her. She'd had more than enough practice with her own half-siblings. But it was all under such a different atmosphere than... this.
Angling her head a little when he lowered his chin to rest against her shoulder, she couldn't hold back the small laugh. There were times she could--sort of--compartmentalize. Keep the responsibilities of Themiscyra ahead of everything else. But then there were times like this, when she couldn't help but say <******** it in the biggest way. The sturdy armor and red cloth vanished, leaving Danika in bare feet, jeans, and a fitted tee. A long cry from her old wardrobe of more intricate outfits and patterns, but fitting on the days she didn't figure she'd spend much time in anything but her uniform. Any clothing she did wear at Danika likely would just be tossed aside soon as she was ready to crash as she crawled into bed, anyways.
"I miss you, too," she responded simply, knocking her head softly against his. "Sorry I haven't been around much. But..." Her voice trailed off into a sing-song tone, leaning more against Ashur now that she didn't have the stiff armor to keep her from enjoying the warmth from his body. "I seem to have a free schedule for the rest of today." By her own orders. She probably could find something to do, but...
To hell with it.
She was comfy. She hadn't really spent time with her boyfriend in a while. If anyone was going to try and tell her to move her a** to assist with whatever, they'd sure as ******** better bring Kariatos and Valhalla along. They were going to need the Bull and Val's magic to fight her on this one.
_ p a o cx So they're saying "SAP. DEAL WITH IT" apparently.

His smile widened when she laughed -- when was the last time he heard her really laugh, though? -- and squeezed her lightly, playfully, eyes closed for only a moment before they opened again almost when he felt Themiscyra's aura disappear. It wasn't so much a strange thing to suddenly be holding Danika in his arms, but it was...different, given he was still in his uniform. What they wore mattered little, though, and he pulled her a bit closer now that her usual armor was in the way. And he listened quietly as she spoke, nuzzling into her neck every so often and absently waving off the apology soon as it came out of her mouth.
She never had to apologize for her responsibilities to the Resistance; not to him. They all had to do their part if there was even the slightest chance of righting the world again -- if that was even possible, given how screwed up it was already -- and he knew where their attention had to be. These kinds of moments...well, they were a luxury now. So much so that her little announcement of freeing up her schedule got him to wear an expression of the slightest disbelief.
"Yeah?" was all he said for a second, and he loosened his grip and adjusted a little bit so he could get a look at her face.
His eyes narrowed slightly; he noticed the exhaustion more than anything else, but beyond that he could see her determination to just...tell her responsibilities to shove it. At least for now. Ash fought back the urge to smile and react right away, give away his own plans to take it easy that night. Instead, the knight gave a little frown and another sigh; he hoped not powering down would help sell his little story. "I picked up another shift with the Guard tonight, actually," he started, though he said it quietly as he pulled her a little closer again. Just a bit, and he rested his head lightly against hers. "Thought you might be out late doing something and I wanted to keep busy, make myself useful..."Kaefaux Nay! OTL Let's try this again.. o|。・ิ□・ิ。|o
