Kalidasa x Kaiser

Quote:
Kalidasa walked beside Kaiser, bumping her wing against him every now and again. She felt horrible for his decision to stay, but not as bad as she felt for being happy at the same time. She would steal glances his way, trying to read any disappointment he felt, or anger towards her for his choice. She'd sent word through a hawk so that Cato knew they were returning home shortly, and not to worry. Their travels would take maybe a full day, a day and a half at the most. She felt the awkward silence creeping up on her, and she fought to think of something to say, conversationally, but would look at her companion and away again, afraid to interrupt his thoughts. She gnawed on her bottom lip and kicked a pebble out of her way.

Quote:
If there was anything Kaiser was, he was someone who kept his word. Yet here he was, almost selfishly ignoring the promise he had made to another. The strangest thing yet, was with every little bump of Kali's wing to his side, and subtle glance she would throw in his direction, the thoughts were easily forgotten and an easy smile settled on his lips. This was the right choice, he could feel the elation of having the firey mare walking at his side fill his heart and he almost wanted to arch his neck and trot about proudly. Yes, he would send her notice on the wind. Tossing his mane, Kaiser glanced her way and felt a deep chuckle rumble from his chest. "I thought you'd be happier, Kali." Raising a sturdy brow, he huffed softly and offered her a reassuring smile. "If you're worried about your uncle, I'm sure things will be fine. Though if he says no, I might have to run off with you anyway." His words were meant to comfort her, but he couldn't help but be a bit light-hearted about the situation. He'd try and do things right, and if he was denied, and she wasn't comfortable running off, he'd just have to prove his worth.

Quote:
Kali giggled along with him after moment, imaging Cato huffing up like a giant peacock. He and Thane both have met Kaiser, and even trained with her him for some time. Perhaps Cato will be too distracted with Arella to worry about who Kali married. "Well, honestly I'm not as keyed up about that. Now Arella will be the one with the issues of getting Cato to agree to anyone. Ever. Literally. I don't think it will happen even on his death bed." She rolled her eyes, a small grin in place. She purposefully bumped her wing again, her small splaying on her maw. "I'm excited, more than ever. I promise."

Quote:
Hearing her laugh filled him with warmth and his own smile brightened considerably. She'd been so tense during their last conversation, that seeing her happy easily rubbed off onto him. "I hope Arella is feeling extra convincing today if we need to get Cato to agree then." Nodding his head with a determined snort, he ended it with another laugh as he was forced to sidestep at her bump. Shaking out his mane as he returned to her side, he retaliated with a light bump of his shoulder into hers. "Maybe I'll challenge Cato to a duel to win you if he remains unconvinced." Arching his neck, he made a display of his form, showing off his confidence if it came down to blows. Yet his bright almost playful smile remained and he soon relaxed into a chuckle and playfully swatted at her back legs with his tail. "It'd be worth any scars I'd get at least."

Quote:
Kali at first was struck with fear at the idea of Kaiser going against Cato--the real Cato. The training brute version was by far a fuzzy kitten compared to what he could really do. He was a trained warrior, and was once the prince of a herd that was dedicated to its army. Kaiser was also wingless, which admittedly was a disadvantage. However, if worst came to worse, she would step in. Cato would not harm Kaiser if she asked him not to. Then of course Bernadette would be a secret weapon. (Cato would not dare harm Kali's loved on if Bernadette also voiced in.) However, Kali knew better than express this to Kaiser. He was a stallion championing for her heart and she felt a swell of pride at his dedication. It also didn't hurt was damn muscular. If it was any other stallion (you know, other than a war horse specially trained) she had full belief Kaiser could and would hold his own. Instead of voicing her thoughts, however, she only smiled fondly and nuzzle into his neck. "My champion. And I would, of course, do the same. However, I don't know if you could forgive me for the damage I would wreck upon who stood against me." She giggled, smiling wider.

Quote:
"Like I could hold anything against you, Kali." He smiled, a warmth filling him as she nuzzled into his neck. It was strange to feel so enraptured by a mare so quickly, and yet his words held a sense of conviction he wasn't fully used to. He could remember the sense of awe he'd first felt when he watched her uncle spar in the skies with Thane, see the pure dedication to each move with little care towards injury. He knew the feel of his blows and the danger in a challenge, but none of that would easily deter him. After all he'd learned much, and with something as heavy as having her as his lifemate hanging on the outcome, he'd refuse to back down or lose. But such serious thoughts were for another time, he didn't want to worry her. Offering a nod, he leaned over to return her sweet nuzzle with one of his own. "If all this goes well, I can only imagine the look on my sisters face when she hears the news." Chuckling at his words as he put the thought of duels from his mind, Kaiser smiled bright. "She might just fall over from shock at the idea!"

Quote:
Kali bit her bottom lip again, unnerved at the idea of Kaiser's family. He'd met all he could of hers. (All save her mother, who she would not wish to see any time soon.) The glee faded from her eyes, but a nervous smile stayed in place. "So... you have a sister. Are there any other family members I should know about?" She peeked at him from the corner of her eye, feeling the knot in her stomach tighten at the thought.

Quote:
Sensing the strange shift in the atmosphere, Kaiser cast a curious glance her way, but the smile on her lips made him push the feeling away. Yet still, the mention of other family made a strangely dark mood wash over him and he sighed. "Other family.. Hm. Yes and no, I suppose." Ears flicking back momentarily, he shook the dark feelings off of him with a snort. "I'm sure I have a mother somewhere, another sister too, but I've never seen them. And my father.. he." Shrugging his shoulders mid-step, he laughed almost bitterly. "He's around, wouldn't call him much of a father though. So no, my sister is my family." Offering her a smile as he tried to lighten the situation on himself. "Might run into him back at my old home, but it's never for long."

Quote:
Kalidasa only nodded, feeling torn between relief and pity. "Well... after tonight, hopefully you'll be able to say you have a lot more family than you can deal with." She laughed at the thought, very much enjoying picturing her handsome champion standing behind her in the family. Having his support lifted a weight in her chest she hadn't really known was there. Funny how those things work, she thought. She only smiled sweetly at her stallion, and decided to pick up the pace. "Hurry up!" she called over her shoulder, smoldering eyes dancing as her grin spread. "The sooner the better, my champion!" her laughter tinkled behind her as she began running, stretching her lean muscles. She'd have to do something about that once she were back. Couldn't becoming a weak little girl, even though she had a big strong stallion to protect her.

Kali x Kaiser x Cato

Kalidasa
The sun was still floating above the horizon, but just by a shrinking margin. She expected she would find Cato in the arena, and probably with Thane. Secretly she hoped Thane would be there, not only to celebrate the good news, but also help reign in Cato if he were to pose a problem. She restrained her urge to "lead" and instead kept Kaiser close to her side. The last Cato knew, Kali and Bernadette had it out and Kali had fled the territory to cool down. Kaiser, concerned, had followed her to ensure she were safe and okay. They'd had a flirtatious friendship from the beginning, that kept intensifying over time--one that had left her heart gnarled and confused by his previous "engagement" (or at least, thats how she saw it), only to blossom into the growing tug of her heart as she fell for him, deeper and deeper in love. And of course, Cato and she shared tradition from their native herd--possibly more he than her, but still. She believed in lifemating, and it held a very high level of commitment and honor, on that she and Cato would agree on.

Her only concern was that Cato would not agree to bless their union because Kaiser was grounded, and hadn't a trace of kalona OR winged blood in him. If they were back in her home herd, Kaiser would be a slave, much like she was a servant girl, only because she had only one set of wings. Admittedly, in the past she was a snob to the fact Kaiser, or any soq with out wings, was "lesser" than her, but after seeing him train with Cato and Thane, and the fact he was just so darned devoted and loyal, there was no hope. She was hooked. It didn't hurt we was damn fit, too. And tall. Boy was that stallion attractive.

She caught herself ogling her champion and coughed, embarrassed, just as they entered the arena to see Cato landing with a thud, slightly out of breath. Smiling wide, she kept close to Kaiser's side. "Uncle!"

Kaiser
Drawing in a deep breath to calm his racing heart from the fast pace they'd taken a majority of the way, Kaiser let it out slowly in a cheerful chuckle as the area around them became very familiar. It was strange how in such a small time, the territory had begun to feel comfortable to him. Almost like he belonged among the watching woodland, even though that wasn't truly the case, he was just a visitor after all, but he would try to change that. He had a better reason to stick around now that he had the heart of the beautiful mare beside him, and where ever she would go, he would be sure to follow. Slowing from a trot, to a brisk walk, Kaiser kept close to her side before casting a look towards Kali for a moment, never had he come across a mare so strong and beautiful. Yet even with all her striking features and the blood of the wicked and proud Kalonas running through her, she still held him close with the want to protect and keep her happy.

If he had it his way, he'd want to step up and keep her from battles and danger, but then it wouldn't be his Kalidasa. After all, her ability to take care of herself in a fight was what first drew his gaze when she trained with him all those months ago. Gaze fondly wandering over her lean body, he smiled and moved to brush his side along hers in a small form of comfort to remind her he was with her and a show of his honest affection as she searched the skies for her uncle. Raising his own bright gaze to the heavens, he let out the breath he'd been holding as soon as he caught sight of the Angeni heading their way. He hoped this went smoothly, for both their sake. Shifting his weight on his hooves, he took a quick side-long glance at Kali, catching her own wandering gaze and smirking as a sense of confidence filled him. Shaking out his mane, Kaiser quietly chuckled under his breath as his attention was drawn to the stocky stallion that landed before them. Offering him a nod of his head, he smiled. "Greetings Cato."

Cato
Cato had finished his nightly flight, feeling the familiar burn in his wings and back, his muscles aching, heated by use. A sheen of sweat coated his fur, shining brilliantly in the setting sun, his waves of hair temporarily held back by a band. He had seen both Kaiser and Kali enter the arena before he landed, and he turned to face them, a half smile across his maw. "Well, well. Look who meandered home." He met them half way, folding his massive wings to his sides. "Long time no see, half-pint." He referred to Kali as half-pint, in an affectionate tone, teasing her for being only wind. After being banned from his homelands, Cato had over time let go his prejudices he had previously harbored...somewhat. Sometimes old habits died hard... "And you, as well." Cato's affectionate tone ceased when spoke to Kaiser. He nodded in greeting, his smile gone. The only stallion Cato had any affection for was Thane, and half the time they spent trying to spiral the other out of the sky. "Thank you for returning her. I'm sure that was no easy tasks." He quirked a brow at Kali, as if "don't be trouble."

Kaiser

Holding back his words as Cato warmly greeted Kali back home, Kaiser shifted his weight on his hooves, his hip bumping into Kali lightly and a soft, breathy laugh left him at the words spoken. they were so affectionate, welcoming. He seemed to be in a good mood at the moment. The idea of how he'd react to the question he'd yet asked was enough to almost send him laughing, something he thankfully refrained from. All he hoped was things in the end would come out well, he didn't want things to come to a fight, yet even so he could feel his heart pumping with an almost excitement at the thought of combat with him. He'd always wanted to better the Angeni in a duel, maybe then he'd accept him as a worthy opponent. Pushing the thoughts from his mind as Cato turned his attention to him with a stony gaze, and harsh tone. It was strange, the way he stood and looked at him, he could have sworn he was back home with his father.

Smile faltering a bit, Kaiser flicked his ears back before letting out a huff. He'd slowly learned to not let the Angeni's almost rude habits faze him, but the small feeling of hatred simmered under his skin. Run-off from his bad feelings with Jink no doubt, so with a brief glance towards Kalidasa to steady himself in the now, Kaiser shook his head. "It was no trouble at all, things went.. surprisingly well." Feeling his warm smile return, he returned his attention to the stallion, all thoughts of his father's influence gone as he saw just Cato before him. "Actually, I'd like to speak with you about something important." Tone easy-going and body relaxed, Kaiser refrained from pawing at the ground absent-mindedly as he stole another quick glance towards Kali. "If you have time now at least."

(pretty much skipping Kali since all she can do at this point is let Kaiser and Cato run the show.)

Cato glanced from his guilty looking niece to the stallion in front of him with a stoney expression. "I may have the time... though I have a feeling that this isn't going to be a fun conversation." He extended his wing for Kaiser to continue before settling it back down his side, his tail whipping unconsciousness left and right as if a cat watching its prey. "Well?"

Kali x Kaiser x Cato

Kaiser
Letting out a deep chuckle at his words, Kaiser stepped forward a tad. "Who knows, it might end up differently then we all think." Keeping an almost un-worried appearance, he flicked his tail as he pieced together how exactly it would be best to go about this. Perhaps he should have learned more about Kalidasa's old customs before leaping straight into it. "Cato, I." The stallion began before pausing, his ears flicking back and his words catching in his throat the a moment. Brows pulling together he shot another glance towards Kali before beginning. "I've spoken with Kali about my affections for her, and out of respect for both her and yourself I wish to ask if I may become her lifemate."

Smile playing on his lips as he mocked how silly his words felt from his mind to lips, yet they got his point across at the very least. Ears resting back in his mane, he shifted his weight once more. He'd never had to ask for permission before seeking out a mare, this was different to say the least.

Cato
"No." And with that Cato turned, as if the matter were settled, and began to make his way back through the arena. He expected them to follow, of course, but didn't check over his shoulder to see.

Kalidasa
"Hey!" Kalidasa called after him, feeling her blood light up. "Cato! Stop!" She flung herself into the sky and landed in front of him, stopping him in his tracks. "Hold on." She stood stubborn, her eyes narrowed in challenge. "Listen first."

Kaiser
"No?" Kaiser echoed as the male walked away, his brows etched together and he quickly followed after, his pace quick to try and cut off Cato while he was still grounded. The conversation would be ended completely if he decided to take to the air. "You-!" He began, his tone hard and crisp before he was cut off as the lithe vision of Kali's body soared overhead and cut Cato off before he could. Smile parting his lips in a small grin as the winged was forced to stop, Kaiser came around on his right. Ears lifting to listen to her words, he flicked his tail and stopped a few steps away from where she stood. Clearing his throat, he lifted his head and shook out his short mane, his gaze hardening as he looked at the Angeni. How did she expect him to convince him.

"How can you just say no without a care to either of our feelings, Cato? Would you really just deny me flat out?" He wanted to snap at him, bare fangs he was missing, show his anger at being dismissed so easily. Yet he couldn't muster that towards the male. He couldn't imagine his own reaction if he were to stand in his place. Drawing in a deep breath to steady himself, Kaiser shifted his weight and shot a short glance towards the mare he hoped to call his own. Mustering a kind smile, he returned his full attention towards Cato and let out a huff of air. "Kali loves me, and I her. Is that not enough?"

Quote:
Cato's expression did not shift. It was the same cold, neutral expression he held 98% of his adult life, and it did not flicker in the wake of what Cato assumed Kaiser thought as moving words. Turning to face the stallion directly, Cato felt his jaw muscle tick. He hadn't noticed he'd been clenching it. In a deadly calm tone, Cato spoke. "You come into my home. You are welcomed by my family. We share our food, our company. You spend a fortnight with my niece, alone, and come back, expecting me to wish her well on her way with you? Tell me, do you know her parent's names? Do you know the land where she was raised? Do you know the values, the beliefs, the hopes, the drive of where we come from? You expect me to tell a young boy that he may have my niece in her entirety when you clearly know none of what has built her, then seem to think disrespecting me, the lord of this land, is the way to voice your complaints. Then of course I know nothing about you; does she?" Puffing like an irritated, but large, cat, Cato took a step closer, his fangs barred, Cato's brusque voice dropped another octave. "Now would someone who loved her, wish her blood to so freely give her to practically a stranger? Hm?"

Kaiser
It was easy enough to feel his patience for Cato's words pulling taunt, ready to snap at any moment, but still he stood there, listening to everything he said. Each word filled him with a small sense of doubt deep in his gut. Ears gradually falling back, he took a moment to look back towards Kalidasa once more, a light frown replacing him smile from before. They'd never truly spoken that deeply about the past, never covered every single thing that made them who they are today. Bright eyes flickering darkly for a moment, he turned away, looking towards the trees. "Disrespecting you?" He echoed, his voice lined with a curious sense of slumbering anger. "I come to you to ask your blessing, as is your custom, and when you dismiss me flat out, I simply asked you to try and view this from how we feel for each other."

Brows pulling together, he flicks his tail, and let out a harsh snort, trying to remain calm before the male. "All I know if your lives in your old land is what either of you have felt comfortable enough to share with me. Regardless I don't love the Kali from her past." Turning back to Cato with hardened eyes, he sighed briefly. "I love the one who is here an now, by the time spent with her, and conversations we've had." He'd never had the greatest relationship with the angeni, yet now, looking upon him he couldn't help the small sense of hatred that tucked itself away in his breast. He had never been welcomed completely among them, but the sheer fact it would be throw in his fact bothered him. Shaking that away, he continued. "I didn't expect you to give her away easily, I asked you to at least consider me."

Kalidasa
Kalidasa had watched in silence, wearing an expression that was not unlike her uncle's before she had had enough. "Both of you need to calm down." She said in a somewhat annoyed tone. "Cato--he is right that you shutting us down with out listening is unfair, and frankly, disrespectful to both of us." When her uncle took a heated breath to interrupt her she snarled, and continued. "I am speaking--this is my future you two are talking about here!" Pausing with her eyes narrowed, she didn't continue until she was sure he wasn't going to interrupt again. "Even in homeland, there were things stallions could do to earn his engagement. You didn't even hesitate to think about if Kaiser could do something to prove his devotion, his worthiness. Since you wont take his word for it, that is." She gave Cato and accusatory stare and made her way around the stallion to stand shoulder to shoulder with Kaiser, her tail running up and down his leg soothingly. "Now; as the "lord of the land" as you put it, don't you think you owe him the customary response since you're so keen on maintaining their other ways?"

Cato
Cato's stony stare turned from his niece onto the boy she was vouching for. Scrutinizing him, Cato's eyes narrowed just a fraction, his frown deepening the slightest. "Are you certain this is what you want, boy? And before you answer you had better think real hard because one of those answers will unleash a living hell until you have proven yourself." His voice slowly fell into a growl at the end of his sentence, furthering his daunting presence. Of course, secretly he was elated about the idea of a bootcamp for this wingless... boy.

Kaiser
He'd expected Cato to snap something cold at him. Take his words and twist them into gods knows what. He was so focused on that happening, that when Kali finally spoke up he inwardly flinched, and a single ear twisted her way. Calm down? He was calm! He snapped harshly in his mind and drew in a deep breath when he realized just how worked up the male had actually made him. Tail flicking, he closed his eyes for a moment, as he focused on his breathing and Kalidasa's words. Prove himself.. The words felt dry in his mouth. Never in his life had he imagined himself to be in this situation. He'd flirted with mares before, enjoyed their company, but never did he expect to have to face a relative and plead and flaunt his affections until they understood. Yet, Kali was different then the others. Sighing with a subtle shake of his head, he opened his eyes to return to the now just as she finished speaking. A part of him wished and yearned that they could just head off on their own, living with each other's understanding that they were happy and in love.

That never worked for his father though, maybe this was the reason why. Jink had never had to fight for what he wanted. He never had to taste the idea of failing to actually understand that he was willing to do whatever before living without them. Pulled from his musing by Cato's rumbling tone, Kaiser quickly felt his anger flare at his taunting words. Boy, he wasn't a boy. Muscles tightening to keep him still, he clenched his jaw and shifted his weight to lean into the soft touch of Kali upon his leg. "If I wasn't certain I wouldn't be here." He replied, his voice matter-of-fact. "I don't need to think hard on it, I'll go through whatever you require to prove myself." Voice rumbling towards the end, he shot a heated glance at Cato. Gods above, he hoped he wouldn't fail. He didn't want to lose his fiery mare, but now, he had the extra drive of now wanting to give Cato the satisfaction of beating him down.

Kalidasa
Kalidasa's eyes shifted between the two most important men in her life and felt herself sigh inwardly. This wasn't going to be fun. Steeling herself, she nodded-as if giving herself a mental shake-and stood taller. "Then its settled. Cato, tomorrow morning we'll meet you here and... see what there is in store."

Cato
Chuckling, Cato's face actually cracked a small smirk. "Tomorrow? Oh no, my little trouble maker. This begins now."

Cato
Cato had at first thought catching Kaiser off guard by starting immediately would be fun. Turns out he was in turn catching himself off guard as well. He hadn't a clue where where he wanted to start. Traditionally the tiers ran along of the lines of physical stamina, ability to provide, and commitment. Then of course being accepted within each other's families but being exiled, Cato wasn't too keen on that last one. He said the first thing that came to his mind. "Dig."

Kaiser
Standing there with Cato pondering about in his head would be amusing if it was any other day. His once flat out anger was now simmering in mild frustration just under the surface. Even so, he managed to remain neutral in his expression as his own mind pondered just what these trials would consist of. If he knew Cato at all, he was sure it would be something increasingly frustrating. Biting gently at the inside of his lips, he cast a quiet look at their surroundings, hoping to catch any sign of what it could be. Maybe climbing a tree? Brows pulling together at the thought, Kaiser almost snorted. That's not possible.. Eyes failing to catch any idea, the stallion returned his attention to Cato just as he spoke one a single word. "Dig?" He echoed, taking half a step back as a single brow rose to hide in his bangs in question. Of all the things, that was not what he thought he'd be told to do. Shifting his weight to rest more on his right, he lifted his hoof and gave a few paws at the ground with the tip. The dirt gave under the pressure, but not without some resistance. This shouldn't be too hard.. "Just, dig?" Bright eyes flashed towards the older stallion, he couldn't help but feel slightly suspicious.

Kalidasa
Kalidasa tilted her head as if she didn't hear right. "Dig?" She mimed the words silently, watching Kaiser paw the ground, then looked to Cato like he'd sprouted a head from his rear. "I don't see how this is beneficial for anything." She murmured, feeling a wave of pity for her poor Champion.

Cato
"Dig." Cato repeated, as if simply as it were 'breathe.' "Dig until you have a sufficient hole to fit your body. You may just need a grave by the time I'm through with you." He turned, not wanting to wait around all day while Kaiser dug. "Kalidasa, you come with me." He said over his shoulder, continuing his slow retreat towards home.

Kaiser
Dig, the command was simple enough. Shooting a hard look at the stallion, Kaiser began to do just what he was told. Dig a grave, as much as the idea of such orders sent a wave of anger through him. Tail flicking irritably, he snorted, his amber gaze watching as Cato simply turned and walked off, each step slow. His own movements seemed like an insult. But he knew, no matter how strong he would become, he'd never be seen as an equal by him. "Go with him." He sighed, his gaze breaking from the retreating form to look at Kalidasa. Offering her a smile. "I'll get this done in no time and join you for these trials." Truthfully he had no idea how long this would take, but he didn't want her to stand around and watch while he did. "Besides, wouldn't want to make him anymore angry." Turning his attention from her, he didn't want for her response before he began to dig at the ground with a hoof, easily throwing the dirt back away from the both of them. Biting at the inside of his mouth, he narrowed his eyes. A hole deep enough to fit him. Gods, this would take awhile.

Kalidasa
Kali stood firm for a few heartbeats, but eventually nodded, her mouth set firm in an angry line, before she followed a distance behind her uncle. She felt most angry for not just ignoring the stupid tradition... Kaiser loved her, she loved him, that should have been enough to just elope, for goodness sake! But noooooo, she didn't listen. She decided that she should follow the orders of her blood. Stupid rules. She laid under the shade of the willow trees, letting the breeze bring her comfort. But was maddening, sitting around all day while she knew Kaiser was toiling away without her. She wanted so badly to help but it would be breaking the point of the trials... well in her opinion, the formation of a lifemating should give her permission to help her other half, but I guess that was post bonding... Or at least that's what Cato had said after she yelled at him for the third time. Sulking, she watched the last few rays of the sun disappear. Dark approaching, she thought it time she check in on her husband to be. "Kaiser?" She called, approaching the rim of the hole, kindness and sadness mingled in her voice... but more than anything, apology.

Kaiser
As soon as Kalidasa was out of sight, Kaiser simply stared down at the shallow start of a trench in the dirt he'd managed to start, seething inside briefly. Somehow he couldn't help thinking that if he'd been born with wings, Cato would have been possibly, joyed by their joining. Yet he wasn't winged, and so he continued in silence. It wasn't as difficult at first, with each kick of his leg he could easily send the dirt flying. It was when he was finally belly deep in the slowly widening hole that he ran into a problem. How to get the dirt up and out. Shaking his head with a snort he looked down at legs and hooves caked with the damp earth. Was this even possible? Mind flashing back to Kali, the stallion felt a surge of unease. Was didn't matter. He had to make this happen, he wouldn't lose her on Cato's first trial. (Or was it a pre-trial. Hm, he couldn't even remember) Glancing around, he hopped out of the hole easily and set about a search of the surrounding. It took him awhile, but he soon had a semi-flat rock and returned to his grave to set about getting deeper.

He'd finally managed to get just below eye level by the time the sky was dark and Kalidasa arrived. Ears twisting back in her direction, he seemed to take a moment pushing about the hole before he tilted his head back to peer up at her with a half-guilty expression. "Kali." He sighed almost happily as his eyes landed on her, by this most most of his coat and face was covered in a layer of dirt darkening his already earthy tone. "Sorry, it took just a little longer than I planned."

Kalidasa
Kali bit her lip and water filled her eyes. Her gorgeous, loving, strong, champion... "No." Her voice was thick emotion before she could clear her throat and speak more calmly. "We're not doing these stupid trials." She turned from the hole to allow room for Kaiser to get out before she continued. "I-Its unnecessary and I wont make you do them. I love you, you love me. End of story." Her voice was raising with her temper as she flared her wings. "Screw Cato and these traditions; I left that herd long before I met you and I want to keep it that way."

Kaiser
Brows pulling together as she spoke with tear-filled eyes, Kaiser shook his head slightly a frown touching his lips. "Kali don't cry." He murmured softly as he reered up to set his hooves into the wall of the dirt to stand taller. Leaning close to nose her leg in comfort. "I'll do them faster so we can be done of this," So focused on the fact that he would do these for her, it took him a moment when she suddenly decided against them. "What?" Tilting his head, he watched her walk away and fell back to all four hooves before he tried to get out, easily collapsing part of the hole in the process. Approaching her side, he felt his smile brighten with each of her words. "I'd hug you right now if I wouldn't mess up your coat." He laughed, his eyes shining as he glanced back from the hole to her. "But are you sure? I mean, you know I would do anything Cato threw my way if it meant being with you." Shifting his weight on his hooves, he leaned down to rub his nose against his lifted knee to try and get some dirt off of him. "It's for you after all."

Kalidasa
Kali laughed through the tears that soaked her cheeks. "I am more sure than anything." She murmured, before reaching a wing to tilt his face from his knee. "And I don't mind the dirt..." She said ruefully, full on embarrassing him-- dirt and all. With her wings and neck wrapped around the one thing in her life that she knew was right, she whispered, "I think the both of us can take his old a** anyway." She giggled pulling back in time to see Cato behind them by a few feet. She was sure he'd heard just about everything.

Cato
"Well." Cato said, his voice steely, pausing dramatically. "Way to ruin the fun of it Kalidasa. Always had that spirit, didn't you?" He was gruff, but you could tell he wasn't angry. Cato made his way over to them, a faint grin on his maw as he looked at Kaiser full on. "You have to be a tough to get this one's respect." He motioned to Kalidasa, with his wing as he smiled warmly at her. "If you've earned hers, then I'll loan you mine... Except you know what me and Thane would do to you if you ever hurt you." This, however, was not a joke. His serious expression was clear, and his voice rung out as a warning.

Kaiser
Head lifting at the gentle touch of her wing, Kaiser glanced up at her his smile easily widening a touch with every word she spoke. "Kali-" He began quietly, only to be cut short when she pulled close in a sweet embrace that caused his heart to swell. Bending his neck around her in his own fierce hug, Kaiser felt another deep chuckle shake his sturdy frame. "You don't know how much this, how much you mean to me, Kali." After all, he truly would have gone through anything to have her, but the simple fact he didn't have to follow Cato's trials just to prove his feelings for her meant more than anything. She believed his feelings to be true, and that felt better than he cold have imagined. Releasing his hold on her as he felt her start to pull away, Kaiser stepped back and shook out his dust-covered mane, a singl ear flicking back when Cato's voice sounded behind him. Snorting lightly at the scolding he'd expected, Kaiser was more than shocked at the almost teasing tone his words held. Walking around Kaiser to come up beside her, he took a moment to glance over the stallion. "You'd probably kill me. I'd never hurt her though." A simple enough statement that could be so easily broken, but he knew he wouldn't. At least, never intentionally. "Surprised you're taking this so easy. Almost expected you to stick me back in that hold to dig until I collapsed."
