Hi! I'm fairly new to this guild and noticed all of our cosplay threads so far are digital gaia cosplays. That's awesome, but I was wondering if we had any real life cosplayers in this guild? Have any of you cosplayed at a con or just for fun? Did you do any LoZ costumes? This thread will be here to discuss things like that!
*Post images of real life cosplays that you've seen or worn *Share tips and tricks about crafting costumes *Chat about the anime cons or cosplay events you've been to or are interested in *Please don't post dream/tektek avi cosplays here unless using it as reference for a real cosplay costume *Follow general ToS Rules, be polite, etc. *Have fun!
To start us off I actually have some of my own questions for you all 3nodding I plan to attend a con in november. That's plenty of time from now to craft a costume or two! I'm thinking that I would like to cosplay or crosplay a LoZ character... but who to pick? I love Shiek, Midna, and Shadow Link, so I'm thinking one of the three. What do you guys think?

I wish I could cosplay. I have been told that I have an eye for detail but I've also learned that wigs are not my friends. If possible, I would like cosplay as Vaati but hmmm. Wigs, super pale skin and contacts.
I'm sure there would be prescription-level red contacts, maybe? I need glasses to read the computer screen.
As for your cosplays, I would probably go with Midna if you think you can handle the small intricate designs. I have always thought that she's so darn pretty in her restored form.

...Alright, I'll bite.
I wouldn't actually recommend Midna as a first-time cosplay (if you aren't a first-timer, I retract that statement.) I'd probably recommend Shadow Link or Sheik; their outfits would be less of a pain in the a** to make, even if you do have all this time.
As for contacts, Pinky Paradise has some pretty fab ones and yes, some of them are prescription. Once I get my new prescription I'll be using them myself for my Hilda lenses.
Wigs? Well, I'd recommend Arda wigs - you can narrow your search by color, length, whatever. Or you can check out Cosplay.com - they don't have a lot of wigs, but they've got tons of colors.
If you poke around on tumblr in the cosplay tag you can definitely find some stuff. I know a lot of people who have a cosplay ref tag on their blog, like mine.
...Okay, fine. Here's a pic of my Linkette cosplay.
I'm the one on the right. Some photographer took a better picture of me, but I'm too lazy to dig out their business card to track down the photo. I do have a few different pictures but... don't ask.

If you wish you could why don't you? It's lots of fun and not particularly hard as long as you give yourself enough time to craft or buy what you need. And Vaati would be a lot of fun to cosplay! Wigs are hard to deal with at first, but once you got them the right shape they usually stay like they're supposed to. I'm sure you could find some contacts like that somewhere. The internet has just about anything on it. I'd bet they'd cost a lot though. Prescription contacts are already pretty expensive, and they sort of have to be made personalized, like glasses, right? sweatdrop
That's what I was thinking too. Plus it'd be a lot easier since I'm female (wont require boob wrap = more comfortable). I think it'd just be expensive to craft because I have a feeling I'd end up using elastic fabric to make it. Elastic is expensive. crying

I don't have much crafting ability, nor many fabric options where I live. Basically the only place is Wal-Mart and it's not the right kind. I would have to go out of town for it. It would just be too expensive for something that seems to be a simple cosplay, especially if I do prescription contacts.
And I'm a broke university student. D:

I can see how that might be annoying to track down. And thanks for the links!

Aw, I see =/ That does make it more complicated. I know you can buy farbics in bulk online for decent prices, but you'd still need something to do with the extra in that case. I suppose you could just buy a cosplay costume from someone too if you wanted, but they tend to cost more than it does to just make one, right?

Thanks for posting the photos. It's sort of hard to see detail or anything, but it looks really good from what I can see! specially if that was all home made. I've been doing cosplay for about 5 years now, but my sewing skills are pretty mediocre, so that's some really good information to know. Thank you! I'll definitely use your links to help me figure out what I want to do! Also, I know Midna can be a pain. She's got a lot of find detail work on her. What do you think if I bought a zentai suit and painted/dyed it get the blue skin and tattoos affect without having to worry so much about smudging make-up?

Not much in the photo's homemade actually - the tunic's an altered green dress that Mom and I found at Old Navy about three days before the con. She cut off the bottom and gave it sleeves. The hat's custom, though.
And yeah, I know the photos are crappy. u_u I have another one that's pretty good, but it's outdated - I'm wearing my old tunic (read: short-as-hell dress).
Ahh, a zentai suit might work? You'd probably have to do some research for the best type of paint to use/use something similar to a shoehorn to keep it from staining to the other side, but that'd work. I don't know that much, tbh, but I follow a cosplay couple on tumblr (their name's Aicosu) and they answer cosplay questions on a regular basis. I think I saw Sheila answer an ask about a bodysuit, but I'm not sure...

Well, home edited is still almost just as impressive anyway xD Yeah, I figure I'll have to look-up a lot of information like that. Specially since I'd probably have to paint on the eyes? Unless I get a hoodless zentai suit... Thanks for the link again. I'll definitely use it to my advantage. Maybe they'll have good tips for wig styling. Lol

The other part about buying a costume is the fit too. I would really like to do it myself, because it feel amazing when you can put something together, but it's not something I can do in the near future anyway.

Well, you can find people online that'll take your exact measurements and custom make the outfit for you, but I guess that doesn't always work out either. I agree that it feels the best to wear a costume you've just made yourself. It's the reason I really want to make mine rather than buy it this time. I bought my last cosplay outfit, and it was fun to run around in, but it doesn't feel the same. Lol

Hmm, sounds like an option for those who don't have time but have money. I think it would be fun to parade around either way but I made little pouches out of old jeans and I was so proud of myself, so crafting is definitely rewarding.

Well, home edited is nearly just as impressive in itself. It stills shows creativity =] And that's alright! I'm glad that I got to see it nonetheless. ^-^ Thank you so much for sharing! And thank you for the Aicosu link as well. I spent a pretty decent amount of time browsing their page. They didn't have the answer to my question pre-written, so I might send them a PM if I need help finding information! Btw, I like you new avi. Reminds me very much of Magi! 4laugh

For sure, I guess that's true too sweatdrop Well, maybe once I've finished my project I can make something for you 3nodding I love projects, so it'd be really fun for me, especially if I was just making it to make it, without a specific deadline I could take the time to put a lot of detail into it!
