Otto stood outside Maebe's door a day after their mission. He'd given her space, because he knew her nature. She wanted to run. Something had spooked her, or made her distant and uncomfortable. However, he loved her too much to simply let her come back on her own. He was scared. Scared that she'd stay away if he didn't let her know she was loved and needed.
However, if she had any idea it was him outside, would she even answer?
To throw her off, he knocked on her door to the melody of La Cuco Racha.

Maebe knew very well that somebody was going to come down and bug her at some point today. They'd left her alone for an entire day, which was a well appreciated surprise. But when the knock finally came, the only question she had when she went to open the door was - Otto, Cami, or both? She made a bet with herself, that it would be both. When she opened the door, she snapped her fingers as she lost the bet. Then she left the door open, and walked back inside. "Fancy meeting you here." She drawled out, walking back to her bed and shoving the plushie pile she'd created to cuddle around herself away. Otto was here now. She didn't need them. "If this is about the shirt, I'm not giving it back and I'm not telling you where it is. It's my girlfriend fee. I stole one of Cami's too but she hasn't noticed." And it didn't fit as well as his - which was kind of embarrassing for her. She was going to have to invest in some push up bras. "And if it's not, then I don't know what you're talking about, of course I didn't take your shirt. Don't be ridiculous." She lounged on the bed, and made grabby hands.

"I knew I was missing something.." Otto murmured as he shut the door behind him. He thought maybe it was lost in laundry or something. "I like that shirt." He grumbled even more. Girlfriend fee, huh...? ... okay. He could deal with that. Just hearing that made him want to smiled and melt into a puddle. Her sass aside, Otto sat with her and gathered the petite blonde into his arms. He breathed her in, taking solace in her presence. Maebe was still here, even if she had run away. "Are you okay?" He wasn't subtle. He couldn't even beat around the bush about why he was there. He was checking on her, and he wanted, needed, to know what was wrong. "You looked kinda spooked yesterday."

"Yeah, well I like it more. Looks better on me." But that was only because it showed at least 40% of her bra as it hung limp against her body. Otto couldn't beat that. Maebe expected him to come to her, but she didn't expect him to gather her up so close, so a tiny sound escaped her as she felt his strong arms pull her into his own. She felt small, in his embrace. Small, warm, and protected. It was easy to forget who she was, when he held her. Easy to forget all she'd seen. Then he reminded her, and she stiffened in his arms. "Of course I'm okay. I'm always okay. This is a standard, with me." She flickered her eyes up at him guiltily, and then snuggled her head into his chest. "I was spooked, but. It's no big deal. Just a vision, you know. Those dumb daggers." She remembered looking at them both after they had finished the daggers. She remembered that little spark of happiness in their eyes. Of life. And she knew very well that any spark that might have been flickering in hers, was dead at that moment. So solitude was her only choice, to give them their moment of happiness. She felt better, that day. Better being alone, where she belonged.

"You're not always okay. You just say you are." Especially when she didn't want anyone to know what was wrong. Did it make him terrible for not simply allowing her to pretend it was working? He kept her in his arms, even if she seemed to get a little rigid. He rested his chin atop her head, his fingers idly twisting some of her long blonde locks around and around. "That portal showed a lot of things. It's a normal thing with missions, but it still sticks, yanno?" Even he was past pretending none of it mattered in the end. It did matter. Anything that bothered him mattered. "One of the things I saw was nice, but in a sad kinda way. The kind where you know it can never happen." "The other one sucked. A lot."

At some point, she couldn't place exactly when, she'd come to terms with the fact that lying to Otto was just for show. He always dug too deep, and called her out on them - and this never stopped her from lying anyway. Perhaps she liked the way he always knew better. Or, more likely, it was just her first instinct kicking in before she could think better of it. Either way, when he informed her that she was once more spouting bullshit, the face buried into his chest couldn't help but smile. "Yes, I know. That's why I didn't bother you two with any of it. I knew that you both had your own stuff to deal with - and we all know this is part of the job. So, I'm fine." The smile turned into a grin. "Just like you're fine." She tilted her head up to look at him, and pressed her fingers to his chin. "So, nice in a sad way, huh? That's a new one. Usually it's just strict gloom and doom."

Just like he was fine. Exactly that. Otto's head tilted down to meet her eyes, her fingers pressing into his chin. "Yeah. Change of scenery I guess. It was like.. an alternate reality. It woulda been impossible no matter what. I didn't even know I wanted what it showed me until I saw it." He still didn't know what made Maebe so upset, but badgering her wasn't in his best interests. Yet.

It was probably a mistake to say there was something he wanted, because instincts urged her to dig until she found out just what that was - and if she'd known, she'd never have asked. "What is it you want?"

s**t. How could he be honest, when he knew Maebe's nature was to run. He was lucky enough he'd won her over enough to have her as a girlfriend. The vision he'd seen, he would never have. Not only because of his circumstances, but because of Maebe herself. He shook his head, his gaze distant. "I shouldn't say."

Her eyes opened up round with surprise, and she stared, far too interested to be good for her. "Oh, wow. This is going to be good. Let me guess.." What could Otto possibly want that he wouldn't want to tell her? The list of delicious possibilities ran through her mind. "I mean, I would be really disappointed if you're just going to say a threesome with Cami, because I already know that's coming and there's no surprise there. Haha. Coming." She nudged him with an elbow. "I made a joke." She bit her lip and continued to try and think of something. "Was it.. hmm. Oh, was it a vision of you and another man?" Yeah, Otto would definitely keep that one to himself.

Otto actually smiled as she jabbed him with an elbow. She was being a total ham. It was great. It lightened his mood. "Wow you really want that threesome, don't you." He was disinclined to agree with her yet. He loved Cami, and he was attracted to her. But he hadn't even done it with her yet, let alone juggling two women at a time. How was that even done? He outright laughed when she suggested he'd dreamed of being with a man. Had he been wound up like before, he'd likely have thrown a fit. "Wow, no." He came back down again, composing himself from the lapse into a carefree attitude. He kind of liked having her sit there and guess. It wasn't like she had to know what it was he'd seen. It wasn't important or vital. He heaved a small sigh, finally letting her arms leave the girl's body. He rested them over his knees, his gaze drifting around the room. "I...."

She'd made him more comfortable by guessing entirely uncomfortable things that weren't as bad as whatever he'd seen, and that in turn comforted her. But it didn't last, and his sigh coupled with the loss of his arms around her left her cold and a little frightened. "Whoa, whoa." She put her hand on his shoulder. "This is really serious, isn't it. Look, if it's something too close for comfort, I get it. You don't have to share everything with me. I'll let it go." Otto had taken on a heaviness that she'd hardly seen since those first few days, and as much as her curiosity was going to now kill her, she wasn't going to push.

Otto looked into Maebe's eyes then. He wasn't telling her because he was afraid she'd be the one uncomfortable. Something he never knew he wanted. Now that it had been dangled before him, and he knew he'd never get it, it sort of hurt. He gave her a soft smile. "Thanks." His smile faded. He wanted to tell her. Wanted to fairly badly. The more he shared, maybe she would share more with him too. But this was... "Maybe it's just a case of wanting something for the sake of the fact you can't have it. I'm sure I'll forget all about it. I'll be..." Fine? He knew better than to bullshit. He'd set a bad example. He shook his head. "I'll live." "I saw myself as...um... a dad." He finally let it out. "A good dad." Maybe that was it. Showing his child a life he never got. Love he never received. Taking all he wished he'd had and giving it to a little one born from love. He felt shaky just saying it.

Wanting something for the sake of not being able to have it - Maebe's smile stretched in understanding. She couldn't deny that she still thought she couldn't hold on to the relationships she'd miraculously made between her and the two people she loved. Would she stop wanting it, if she ever admitted to herself that she truly had managed to be good enough for them? It was a question she couldn't answer, because she had no precedence for it. She'd never gotten what she'd wanted like this, before. And all of those thoughts crumbled out of her head when he said the word dad. He was still talking, so he missed the tiny inhale of breath she sucked in. Her eyes flickered for a moment, before turning strangely flat. Her smile never left her, but she nodded her head, keeping up the curiosity angle. "You probably would be a good dad. All you'd need to do is be attentive, and you are that." She was talking to him as if his revelation hadn't affected her. As if it hadn't reminded her of what she'd seen. What she knew about herself. "But I mean, you can be a dad, can't you? They said, guys can go bang humans. We just can't, because we're women and sexism and zombies. Mostly zombies." She was even making jokes, light and carefree. All the while, the light had completely left her eyes. And her hand, resting quietly on her stomach, reminded her what she would have done if she'd ever been a mother. A memory, not a vision. A fact. She was sure of it. "You should go for it. I mean, I guess you won't be as good of a dad as you'd like, but at least you'd have a kid. Right?"

"But it ain't about just havin' a kid. If I wanted that, I'd just donate to the weirdass breeding program." Which still squicked him out, to be honest. He'd missed Maebe's distant eyes lacking their luster. His head was still in the clouds. "There's no point if I couldn't actually be there for them. I'd be no better than whoever gave me up to begin with." His gaze finally drifted to meet Maebe's. He became worried. He knew it was a risk telling her this. He'd taken it anyway. "Sorry.. It's kinda heavy, huh?"
