Chayse had been bathing in the lake near her home. She made sure that she wasn't followed and had kept her eyes on the shore the entire time. She wasn't about to let it happen again, not if she could help it.
She sloshed her way to shore, and shook herself spraying water outwards for a few feet. Her familiar Preston had been napping nearby and was suddenly awoken by the water hitting his face. He woke abruptly, and growled, "Do you mind?!" He huffed and pushed himself up, wiping at his face with his paw.
"Sorry Preston," she muttered in reply. "I didn't see you there." Her eyes were scanning the tree line every few seconds. She snapped her tail behind her to rid it of any lingering water, and threw her head back to move her bangs from her eyes. The water had relaxed her a little bit, but the paranoia wasn't going to go away....at least not for a while.
Preston stopped washing his face and watched her carefully. He tilted his head and sighed. "Are you still worried they're going to come back?" he asked. He knew she was still afraid, even if she tried to keep a brave face on. The two that had tried to capture her that day had left a bigger impact on her psyche than she cared to admit.
Chayse looked sharply over to him and narrowed her eyes, "No." she lied, and furrowed her brow. "I'm just checking the area, hoping that Arctic will show up."
Preston sighed again. "Okay..." He wouldn't push the subject, as he knew she was just trying to be strong. |

Lathered in sweat, Gypsy Song had recently taken to the skies in a desperate attempt to find any source of relief from the beating heat of the sun. His efforts were to little avail. Sure, he could generate a minute amount of a breeze with his wings, but it wasn’t nearly enough to keep him cool and mother earth wasn’t helping him in the slightest. There wasn’t even enough of a breeze to cause a strand of hair to wiggle. With a sigh of discouragement, the bulky stallion now searched the land below for any source of water to cool himself off in.
A look of elation overcame the stallion’s features when he noticed just off a few yards from where he was flying there was a lake. Wonderful! Lowering towards the ground, Gypsy couldn’t help but notice a pink figure on the edge of the lake. He hoped he wasn’t intruding, but manners were being outweighed by his body’s demand for water. Surely this other soquili wouldn’t mind him stopping by for a quick dip and sip before being on his merry way.
As heavy hooves landed against the dirt with four loud thuds, Gypsy grinned at the similarity of the sounds of his hooves to that of a two-legger drum. Gypsy made sure to make a mental note for later musical performances he would put on for his invisible crowd. For now, he needed to focus on the source of water just ahead of where his hooves had landed.
Glancing over at the pink mare, Gypsy scraped a hoof against the ground as he contemplated how to address her. His last wish was to upset her by invading her territory. Clearing his throat, he debated a greeting before finally speaking up with a gentle tone, “I hope I am not intruding, miss.” As he spoke, Gypsy took heavy and almost lazy steps towards the cool water.
First, he let his hooves soak in the shallow water before he slowly moved deeper into the water until it consumed almost his entire legs. Half lidded eyes now closed as the water cooled his burning skin. A smile tugged at his maw as a shiver of excitement ran up his spine.
