He'd left behind the jewel that was the ocean, gradled by the wrought gold of the sands. He had actually left it several months ago, though, o occasion, he ventured close to look upon it and even to dip a wing into the water. But he'd left it again, much to how he regretted it, to journey anew and continue healing and growing.
And now the world was fresh and new to him again, and it was thanks to the soquili he had met on the way - such as Saffron - he could give credit to for their unwitting help in the processes he was still moving through, albeit with much greater success than before. In fact, the boisterous and rather tactless mare had been the turning point. Her nature was, despite it being a bit rough around the edges, exactly what he needed.
And so he could see the world with new eyes again.
With a perk of his ears, Alis drifted towards the ground, though his gaze was a bit further ahead. Touching down, the stallion made the transition from air to ground smoothly before slowing to a long-legged trot, enjoying that he could work his muscles upon the earth once more. It was a field of flowers. They did not overwhelm the space, but, given a few months, he was certain that the seeds would drift and soon would blanket the entire meadow.
Pleased with his find, he bent his head to literally stop and smell the flowers.
With the sun warming his back and only puffy clouds dotting the skies, it was the perfect day to take it easy.

Utpala was dancing upon the wind, and she absolutely loved it. There was just enough of a warm breeze for her small, shrunken, figure to be caught up in the updrafts; though the occasional gusts tried to knock her off course, she rose and fell and tumbled with practiced ease. She could catch the updrafts, or let herself practically cartwheel into a gentle breeze, before catching herself and fluttering a little here, a little there, eventually falling to rest upon the petals of her most beloved flowers. Oh, but she could not wait for the field to bloom with life! While flowers were already cropping up and painting the greens with splashes of blues and reds and pinks and whites and yellows, very soon a veritable rainbow would appear, and the scents would perfume the surrounding area for miles.
Ah, but wasn't she the luckiest mare to have been born in the most wonderful place ever? The shrunken mare couldn't help but sigh in happy bliss, ever content to enjoy her time among the fields and gardens of her family lands. They were quiet, they were peaceful, and they were perfect for a flutter like her! It was her little kingdom, really, and it was where she could dance among the breezes, or sip at the lovely nectar of the flowers, and cherish the summer sunshine. Best of all, she could spend hours lost in a dream, going over story after story that her mother had told her -- far off places, daring adventure, princes, princesses, good conquering evil, and stallions sweeping mares off their hooves to run away together. Ah, such things never happened in her garden, but she knew that beyond these fields lay a world full of heroes, knights, and stories.
But Utpala was far too little to go adventuring, and she was not quite willing to leave her garden home. She might not be the most adventurous, but that didn't mean she couldn't enjoy getting lost in a daydream. And lost in a daydream was exactly where Alis found Utpala!
Half-dozing within the petals of a tulip, the mare almost missed the tell-tale signs of a strangers approach. It was only when a giant hoof pushed aside the plant she was resting upon that she woke, alert and alarmed. When her head peaked up out of the flower, the mare suddenly noticed she was settled beside a most large and oddly winged creature -- it was another soquili! A stranger! A visitor! A guest! Oh, oh, he looked so noble with his flowing golden locks and what appeared to be some sort of fabric around his neck. Royalty -- he absolutely, positively, had to be royal! A prince! A king! An emperor! Wasting no time, the little flutter pushed herself out of the tulip and flit and fluttered over to where the stallions head was stuck in a bunch of flowers.
"Salutations, my good sir traveler," she greeted as was appropriate, settling on a nearby rose not far from his nose. "It isn't often we see such guests, but I would like to be the first to welcome you to my home!" Well, it wasn't entirely her home . . not really. But it was her families lands, and while they were small, and mostly ignored, it was still the polite thing to do.
Oh, she knew she should unshrink, but she also didn't wish to alarm him. Some soquili were very skittish, and simply appearing out of seemingly nowhere was never a good thing. It had been so long since royalty had traveled through... she didn't want him to run away as soon as he'd arrived!

This soft and quiet meadow garden was soothing, especially with the sun able to warm his pelt now that it wasn't combatting the breezes as he flew through the sky. The stallion let his wings shift and stretch slightly as he drifted ever so slightly through the tall grasses and blooming flowers. It was a sleepy place, almost. Certainly, it was perfect for a few moments of contentment. Perhaps even a day or two to stay...
With a few moments of quiet as he drifted, Alis wondered how his son and daughter were getting on, off on their own. He'd parted with Crisiant, it seemed, half a lifetime ago when in reality, it had only been about a year. He was confident she would be okay, but, sometimes he wondered. Sometimes, he worried. Perhaps, now that he wasn't feeling so crushed by the world, he should seek her out once again. It would prove difficult: she was just as much a traveller as he was. He might have thought it even more difficult if she had wings as well. But, she didn't, so he supposed that was a small blessing in the matter.
The winged stallion started to delve further into thoughts of his family - thoughts that were no longer so painful as they had been this past year - but was startled from it by a sweet voice greeting him! Verdant eyes blinked and looked around, having missed the littler flutter's progression to the petals of a rose right near his face. It took a moment for him to catch the dazzling sort of shimmer the slender, gossamer wings produced in the sun with their light colours. She was absolutely tiny! Not that it was his first encounter with a flutter. But certainly his first with one in their smallest form.
The stallion cocked an ear and bent his neck just slightly as he lowered it, bringing the tiny resident of the meadow into fine focus. It also let the itty bitty mare catch sight of the ribbon adorning his mask that curved over his face. He blinked a few times, quite quickly. He was surprised, a little, to come across someone here, and more to find that this was actually her home. Alis dipped his head in what was a slight nod, perhaps even a very short bow.
"My apologies for appearing in your home, and quite unannounced." He spoke softly, not wanting to jar her with the sound of it. So close, he was glad he turned his head slightly away from her body, not wanting to blow her off and away with a gust from either breath or word. "My name is Alis, ma'am, and I hope I have not trampled or destroyed any of it, by my landing or wandering around?"
He took a step back to draw slightly away from her before making a nudging motion into the air, his smile soft and kind.
"Would you prefer to remain as you are, miss..?"

Utpala was glad that the stallion seemed to be such a gentleman! Not only did he bow his head at her -- at least that's what she wanted to view the nod as -- but he spoke quietly, too! So many larger-sorts forgot themselves when they were around a shrunken flutter, and her ears were often left ringing from such encounters. Thankfully, this handsome stallion was being thoughtful and ever polite.
Surely this must mean him some great prince!
Her little heart almost swooned at the thought, and her delight was clear. Their little field sometimes drew strangers and passer-bys, but sometimes they moved on through without stopping to talk. Some of them had great journeys to travel, so Utpala couldn't blame them at all for moving through. . . .but she did sometimes wish they would stay and tell her of such stories. She was nothing but a silly little flutter, she was no royalty . . . but she knew everyone else out there must be on some great adventure.
Maybe this prince would tell her a tale or two?
Prince Alis.
Not only had he apologized, but he had stepped back to question whether or not she wished to remain in her present form. "Oh!" She almost squeaked, her wings giving a bit of a startled flap. "Oh, you're quite right. Excuse me just a moment, Sir Alis," she dipped her head at him, and fluttered back a few more paces. If shrinking was like tightening the energy, then growing was similar to releasing it, almost like a tie. It took a little thought and encouragement, but soon enough, she was back into her full-sized form. Unfortunately, Utpala came from a delicate line, and was extremely petite in size. Still, if they were going to have any sort of polite conversation, it would be far better or her to look as she might.
"I apologize," she stated, giving the other a bow. "I would have grown sooner, but I didn't wish to startle you by popping up, so unlady like, from the bushes." She smiled warmly at the stranger, her blue eyes practically glittering with mirth.
"It is good to meet you, Sir Alis. I'm Utpala, and this little garden is where my family and I reside. We are always delighted by company so i assure you, you have done no wrong. These lands are meant to be enjoyed and shared by all. But please, are you hungry, thirsty, or weary, good traveler? Is there anything I might do to ease your burdens while you pass through?" She knew that she needed to make a good first impresson, as well as ensure that those who did pass through were well. Everyone who came through had a story, and maybe, just maybe, Utpala the good hostess of the small gardens would make a cameo in such a tale.
It was the most a daydreamer like her could hope for, after all. It was her duty to care for those that came into the lands -- to welcome them in joy, and wish them safe travels once they inevitably left.

Sir Alis?
That was quite new, and he was somewhat taken aback by it. Not negatively, oh no, but it was certainly surprising to be addressed as such. It didn't take long before the teeny-tiny mare was at her full size...and...
And she was quite small, even then!
What a delicate and precious flower, he quietly mused to himself, and his ears perked a bit more as she spoke again. A jest! A smile bloomed on his own mouth in response and he chuckled.
"I appreciate that! I hope I did not wreck your home and the area."
He quieted to let her speak, dipping his head respectfully at her name - Utpala, how curious and yet delightful, just as she seemed to be - and then listening quite intently to the rest of her words. Lifting his head, Alis couldn't help but appreciate their size differences, even now. He wasn't the most stately of stallions, height-wise, but he still felt quite large in comparison to the mare he was sharing company with.
"You're such a polite and attentive hostess, Utpala. While I don't like to feel like I'm imposing, some water would be quite wonderful. Oh, and, your family? Are they around, right now?"
He assumed that at least one of her parents or siblings may be a flutter like her, and he certainly didn't wish to accidentally step or move too close that it would put them at risk, either.
