Bio: Annie grew up with a distaste for the military, not truly knowing what the big picture was about, she spent a lot of her time moving around with her parents, they would never tell her about the conflicts involving insurgents and rebels. Her early life was very nomadic, she moved from Reach to Earth and everywhere in between, living on a mining facility at one point.
During the first assault on Reach, she was 18 at the time and living in New Alexandria. She was being evacuated along with her family when their Pelican was taken down by a passing by Banshee. It was only barely able to avoid plummeting to the ground by crashing into a nightclub. Her and Spartan II survived the crash, the Spartan she was sat next to quickly became an authority figure and her only real source of hope. All of her distaste for the military was washed away as she followed the Spartan, fleeing the building. She donned the armor of a deceased Marine after the crash and for the first time, armed herself with a rifle. The Spartan gave her a Battle Rifle and they went through a very quick training session. They got to know eachother briefly, the Spartan named Carol and the Impromptu marine named "Annie", because Anastasiya was a mouthful for the Spartan to call to her incase of trouble, which was a good call.
Shortly after establishing a first name basis, a Brute squad came up one of the elevators, a chieftan followed by two other ones. They didn't have much choice but to hide at that point, Carol didn't want to risk Annie's life and Annie didn't want to have to fight something that menacing looking. The Brutes picked apart the crash site looking for survivors, but gave up rather quickly. They were about to leave when Annie dropped her gun trying to check her clip, and the Chieftan smashed the counter she was hiding behind, missing her by mere inches, though the shock threw her back pretty far. Carol heard the commotion and vaulted over the table she'd been hiding behind, drawing a knife and jumping at the Chieftan, bringing the knife down on his neck and using her momentum to nearly take his head clean off. Blood went everywhere and the other Brutes had already hit the elevator button, only one managed to get out in time, losing his spiker in the door. Annie had barely recovered and managed to fire a burst into the Brute's chest, drawing the attention from Carol and giving her the chance to stab the Brute. After the fighting, Carol told Annie to take the Hammer with her, when she actually tried to lift it however, they both just laughed. She was determined to lift it before evac arrived.
A few hours after they crashed, a backup Pelican came to pick up survivors, though they were immediately tailed by the same Banshee patrolling the area. Carol ordered the pilot to reverse thrust, making the Banshee drop low to avoid a collision, she was able to hijack the Banshee as Annie watched in total awe. Carol proceeded to escort them to a safe zone and saw Annie off, letting her keep the Spartan's rifle as a memento. She was never actually questioned about not being a Marine until she went to sign herself up for ODST training, it was the best thing she could do to honour the Spartan that saved her.
