◇◆◇ Ep 01: The First Bud of a Story ◇◆◇
Raylene and Zane first stumble across each other and discuss their interests. [ start] Tue Jul 23, 2013 - 8:30 pm ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Raylene stumbles out from her house, her sisters insisting she get some sunlight. She wanders around since she is unsure what do with her day.

Zane looks up from the random flowers he had found outside and was attending to. "Ahh...Hello miss..." His cheeks turned a little pink and he fidgeted. "My name is Zane, pleased to meet you" He smiled until he looked down and noticed that he accidentally plucked one of the prettier flowers while fidgeting. His ears drooped and he looked a little glum about ending the flowers life.

Raylene was a bit startled to have come across someone, but she quickly recovered herself. "It's nice to meet you too, Zane. My name is Raylene." Her eyes followed his and she noticed the flower he had picked. Though normally not something odd, Zane looked rather upset by it. "Are you alright?" Raylene's voice was laced with concern.

Zane looked back up at her. "Yeah I'm ok I just didn't mean to end this poor flowers life by picking it. Now it's beauty will wither unless dried or encased in resin." He pouted a little. "But I don't know how to get clear resin onto a flower safely for display and dried is too flat and dull to look pretty in a beautiful female's fur." He set it down safely on the ground and continued to remove the weeds from the small plot of flowers. "So how are you Miss Raylene?"

Raylene now felt her own twinge of sympathy for the poor flower. She had never though of it that way. Her initial response was to offer to flatten it inside one of her books, but Zane did not sound happy about drying the flower. Raylene held her tongue on the topic. "Me?" Raylene felt a bit caught off guard. "I'm fine. I was urged by my sister to enjoy the beautiful weather today." She looked up at the sky; it was sunny with just the right amount of fluffy white clouds. "I suppose it is a nice day.... And how about you, Zane? How are you? O-other than the flower incident."

"I am okay. Tending to any flower patch I see-- wild or not-- always gives me some kind of calm if I cannot find anything else to occupy my time" Zane smiled sweetly. "If I'm not outside I might be helping somebody or reading one of the few books I do have." He lay down and rested his head on his paws while looking up at her.

Raylene returned Zane's smile, finding it easy to do. "That's kind of you. Not too many flowers get the attention they need. Then again, it sounds like you're a kind soul." She picked out the mention of books and turned the topic toward that. "You only have a few? I think I enjoy fairy tales far too much to only have a few." Raylene blushed, feeling a bit embarrassed. "That's childish, isn't it?"

Zane shook his head. "No they don't." He looked back at his little basket filled with little gardening tools. "The problem is finding a water source for some of them." He tapped his chin with a claw. "I try my best to help others." He nodded and rested his head back onto his paws. "Well I'm outside most of the time so the time I read books is when I'm ready for bed, so I only have my favorites." A chuckle escaped his maw. "Nah, I like fiction myself. Unless it's about topics I like non-fiction is too boring for me. I always like going into a new world with books." His tail wiggled and his eyes twinkled. "But a good portion of the time while I garden I'm off in lala land thinking about some random adventure I'm having I even somethings act it out without realizing it." He blushed and gave a small laugh.

Raylene visibly perked up. "Oh! I do that too! Tesni used to tease me about doing it aloud so I started keeping them to myself." Raylene giggled, glad to know someone shared her habits. "I don't think I've ever picked up a non-fiction book." She scrunched up her nose in a playful display of disgust before giggling again and dropping it. "What sort of topics do you enjoy of that type?"

Zane stretched a little. "I see nothing wrong with it myself. But to each their own." He sat up and went through the basket he had with him and pulled out his gardening book that had gotten quite worn over time of him using it and it being int he basket. "Usually how to books, cooking, gardening, crafts, and anything to give me something to do."

Raylene smiled at the well-worn book. "I see these ones have gained much attention from you." She genuinely listened as Zane listed off topics, though he eyes stayed on the books. Once he was done, Raylene lifted her eyes to his face. "You sound very versatile. Have you cooked or made anything interesting before?" Curiosity was alit in her eyes.

Zane gave a gentle pat to the book. "Yeah I didn't mean for it to get this way. I always treat my books with great care usually even some of my oldest look pristine though I read them frequently." He shrugged. "I've cooked a bit but I'm still working on that the crafts are something to do when the world is too cold for gardening outside." His tail wiggled. "Though I do have a mini garden inside." Zane moved a few things around and pulled out a small necklace he had been working on made of polished stones he found lying about that were to his taste. "Though I've been working on this for a while~"

"A well worn book just means it is well-loved." Raylene was very earnest in her words. "Many of my favorite story books are falling apart. Most of the damage happened after my nephew arrived." Raylene nodded as if she understood. "Ah, so they're things to do type stuff. The inside garden sounds neat, though!" She moved to get a closer look at the necklace. "Oh, that's pretty. I like that you're using stones instead of beads. Makes it look like it came from the earth."

Zane nodded. "All of my books are well loved Miss Raylene. I just like keeping them in good condition so I won't have to replace them anytime soon or if at all. But it is understandable most of the damage would happen with little ones around." He rolled of the the rocks he had to yet add to the necklace between his paws, it still needed polishing and cut down to size. "Most of the things I have growing inside are for cooking. Beads tend to be unnatural yes unless you take things from nature and make your own." He smiled. "As soon as I finish you may have it."

Raylene scrunched up her nose and looked embarrassed. "Yeah, I guess you have a point there. It can be a bit troubling to have my favorite book automatically open to the middle part instead of letting me start from the beginning." She laughed off her embarrassment quickly. "That makes sense. Grow what you need in a controlled enviroment." Raylene nodded again, much more earnest. She was pleasently surprised when Zane offered to give her the necklace once it was finished. "That is very kind of you. I would be very happy to accept it when you're finished, if you have no other purpose for it."

Zane gave a small laugh. "Yeah that's usually frustrating." He played with a few of the rocks he had chosen for the necklace examining them to see which parts he really wanted out of the rock to keep and use for the necklace. "Mostly its the darker leafy greens and some veggies but my favorite things to grow are the fruits or berries. I also grow herbs to as flavor to my food." He went through another basket he had with him and pulled out a few jars of berries especially strawberries. "My favorites are strawberries. And no other purpose for them really I either sell them or give them out anyways" He smiled and opened up one of the jars it made a small pop telling him that it was unsealed. Sticking his paw into it he pulled out a berry and nibbled on it with a satisfied smile.

Raylene smiles, spotting a familiar face, before heading over to him. "Hiya, Zane! It's nice to see you again." She smiles brightly at him.

Zane shifts side to side. "Hello Ms. Raylene~" He gives a gentle smile.

"It's been a while since I last saw you. How are you? Enjoying the cold?" Raylene scrunches up her nose and giggles.

Raylene stretches, having been in doors for a few days, and has decided to enjoy the sun today.

Zane's ears twitch and perk up a little as he spots Raylene. "Hello there Miss. Raylene~" He grinned.
==============
"Oh, hey there, Zane." Raylene says as she moves closer to him, offering a friendly smile. "How are you this warm summer afternoon?"
==============
Zane stretched out. "Oh yes very warm being a dark color means I am quite warm...Might move to the shade starting to cook." He laughed. "Care to join me?" He grinned and stretched out.
==============
Raylene giggles lightly before looking sympathetic. "That must really suck." She nods quickly. "I'll be happy to join you. The sun is a bit unbearable."
==============
"I'll be alright. It's what happened when we spend too much time indoors too. The sun is harder to stand." Zane gives a small laugh and walks slowly towards the treeline so they could walk together.

Raylene scrunches up her nose briefly, walking beside Zane. "I know that feeling. I literally holed myself in my room these past few days finishing up a book I recently bought." She sighs wistfully. "Ah, but it was worth it."

"Yeah lately I found someone dug up my garden so I don't have a garden to tend anymore" He sighed and set under the trees. "And I'm pondering if I should get some potted plants to keep in my place so it's easier to raise and harder for them to get to."

Raylene looks shocked at Zane's news. "What?!" Slowly she lowers herself to the ground in the shade. "How could someone be so... so rude?" Her brows furrow in mild confusion and frustration. "You don't just go digging up gardens." Finally she sighs, mirroring Zane's. "I'm sorry that happened." Raylene lays down and rests her head on her paws, getting comfortable. "You totally should! If you like tending for things so much, don't let some jerk ruin it for you."

Zane shrugged. "Maybe they wanted their own garden... I wish they would have left my rose bush alone though. I liked the purple roses I was even thinking of drying some out or encasing some in different colored resins." He pinched the bridge of his nose. "I only managed to get one encased before they were stolen" ; ~; He pulled out a small rose from a basket he had hidden in the bushes nearby and showed off the flower in clear resin. "I was going to eventually make a base for it and wrap wire around it to look like vines."
"It'll be alright I still have enough time to grow a bigger and better garden...!" He nudged his garden catalog near her. "I was even thinking of getting someone to help me with a little pond. Add some lilies around it maybe get some lotus growing. I wasn't sure what else I should add though."

Raylene looks unconvinced. "That's still rude to do. You should ask before you take or borrow... or burrow." She snickers at her joke, unable to help herself, but sobers quickly. "Purple roses? I've never seen purple ones before." Raylene is awestruck at the resin bound flower Zane produces. "Oh my goodness!" Her face is a mixture of awe, sadness, and sympathy at the lost of such a flower. She nods her head enthusiastically as Zane describes his plan for it. "I'm sure it will look beautiful when you're done."
Raylene takes the catalog and flips absentmindedly through it while listening to her friend. "That sounds really nice." She smile at Zane briefly then turns back to the catalog. "Um..." she starts, feeling a bit unsure. "If you don't already have someone in mind... Would it be okay if I helped you? I probably won't be too useful since I don't know much but I would really like to help." Raylene looks at Zane hopefully, her tail wagging in eagerness.

Zane smiles at her joke then gave a bigger smile at her reaction towards the flower and pondered on possibly giving it to her later when he was done giving it a base and some wire vines around it.
Her drummed his 'fingers' against the ground as he pondered what flowers he wanted to go into the garden and perked up when Raylene offered to help. "If you want I don't want to push you to help me miss." He gave a sheepish smile and a small tint of pink dusted his face. u //v//u

Raylene beams at Zane, nodding enthusiastically as she does. "I really do want to." She calms herself before continuing. "You aren't pushing me to. I would love to help you." Raylene takes a brief look at the catalog page she is on before letting out a light laugh. "I may not understand much about plants right now, but I'd be happy to learn and follow an directions you give me."

Zane grinned and flicked his tail enthusiastically. "Great! It's always nice to have another set of paws to help. Maybe get another viewpoint on what might look good" He nods in what he thought would be a sage like way.

Raylene smiles and laughs lightly. "Exactly! I will do my best to be helpful~" She looks back at the catalog, peering at certain plant information. "So would there be a certain type of plant you'd want?"

Zane rubbed his chin. "Well as I said I want a little pond with lotus and lillies. I'm not sure what else I should put with them though. My last garden was mostly stuff that was growing wild there."

Raylene listens and nods. "Okay, pond plants..." She flips pages in the catalog until she spots some plants that seem to be located in water. "Oh! These are all so pretty~" Raylene contemplates the pictures, reading to make sure the plants are actual pond plants, before pointing to one flowering kind. "What about these... Nymphoides crista? 'White Snowflakes'?"
