Bubbles was hanging around a peninsula close to the shipwreck fields, poking in and out of the channels the broke through the land. Most of the time she was considerate enough to only go where Nebula could go too, but she'd encouraged the dolphin to go off for the day and find some of her own adventures. Which left her plenty of time to explore the small inlets of water! The water wasn't her target of investigation though, it was what surrounded the water. The mer mare was fascinated by everything on land, plant life and creatures alike. She'd met some of those who walk on land before, even one who had showed her how to swim up these channels that were sometimes called rivers or streams, but she always wanted to meet more of them. She was sure there were many more different kinds of creatures to meet out there!

The river was deep enough for her to freely swim through, even some of the fish came to swim with her for a while before continuing on their way. She'd been so absorbed in her surroundings.. that she hadn't paid any attention to her water surroundings and wound up running a ground in an extremely shallow part of the river. More like a stream at this point. She blinked as her belly scraped up against the smooth rocks of the stream bottom and her hooves wedged into them as well. Her head swiveled around as if she was unsure of how she got here and her tail splashed in the shallow water as she wriggled around trying to dislodge herself. "Oh fish eggs!" she stomped her hoof in irritation and frowned at all the little rocks all around her.

It had certainly been an interesting week for members of Yectenehua during their beach Vacation and foraging trip, and Mezzo needed a break from the rest of the herd.

Firstly they traveled south to gather items from a storm, only for them to rescue a hipposuti stallion of a rather diminutive size who had gotten knocked out during said storm and was now resting with amnesia, quickly adopted by the Usdia-Angeni couple that ran the herd. In the midst of the chaos, the basket they had taken had also popped, resulting in an Usdia foal with tiny wings and a little quilin horn to monitor. This after spirits had shoved a fully grown Usdia stallion into a basket and ended up joining the herd. Plus, Mezzo's parents were making doe eyes at each other and what of his siblings and nieces and nephews that came and the parade of familiars resulted in a lot of noise (as well as music, which Mezzo was admittedly fond of)

Mezzo never really handled staying in one place long well however, despite his love for the music and socializing, and so he had taken an opportunity to go for a run, keeping to the riverside so he'd have an easy way to track back to camp. It was refreshing however to run on solid ground rather than the soft sands, the wind blowing through his mane as the rapid rhythm of his hooves created a melody with the jingling of his bells, scarf blowing in the wind with a crackling rustle in the air, whipping sharply behind him. At times he wished he shared the wings of his siblings Baroque and Echo, but when running, with as smooth as their Paso Fino background made their steps, running wasn't too far off from flight, and it came with a grand rhythm that set the blood pumping and caused the soul to soar.

So absorbed in this he almost missed the Mer as he leapt over the familiar spring, however in mid leap his attention turned toward her, meeting her eyes momentarily before his rather unexpected landing sent him tumbling into the bushes, going from graceful to clutz in under five seconds.

When he finally poked his head out from the bushes, Mezzo's mane was littered with broken twigs, his hairbell jammed with leaves, "Sorry about that, miss, hopefully I didnt startle yo-"

He looked over her situation, quickly accessing everything as his mind finally stopped rattling from his sudden tumble "... hrm, I don't suppose you could use some assistance? I swear, I'm not as much of a screw up as that landing would lead one to believe.." He gave a charming, sheepish smile towards the mare as he shook his hair, trying to dislodge the leaves from his favorite bell, feeling as if he was missing something important to who is is with it muffled by foliage. He wanted to insure she was calm, as judging from the situation she seemed rather stuck, and panicking could result in injury, something he wished to avoid as much as possible. "I'm Mezzo. Mezzo Amachi, and If you need it I'm here to help.."

Bubbles wasn't really the panicking type, sure this was a minor set back, but it's not as if her life was in immediate danger. This was merely an annoyance. She'd figured out some way out eventually, and it was probably best she didn't know about all the dangers that waited out there. No doubt there would be some carnivores that would love the chance to get at a mer out of water.

Instead, she took some time to look around more. It seemed peaceful, and very different from the coastline that she was used to. It was so.. green. Towering trees were littered everywhere and a dusting of grass was scattered in between rocks of all different sizes. It had its merits, but it didn't really compare to her world below the surface of the ocean.

An approaching sound stirred her out of her thoughts. Her ears swiveled and she tried to turn her body some to be able to see better, since it was clear something or someone was coming closer, and before she had time to comprehend what it was, it had jumped over her and toppled into the shrubs. Blinking curiously, she wondered if this was a regular activity for those who walked on land. Perhaps a game of some sort. As he came back into view, she tried to study him as best she could, while still trying to listen to him talk. He had some kind of strange item wrapped around his head, she hoped it wasn't choking him! He didn't seem to worried about it though...

Snapping back, she peered up at this mysterious stallion. "Oh you didn't startle me much," she replied with a smile. "I'm a bit embarrassed to say that I actually could use some assistance. Please don't feel that you have to though! I'm sure I could figure something out eventually if you need to be somewhere. You.. did seem to be in a hurry." She laughed a little, remembering his tumble in the bushes. "It's great to meet you, Mezzo, truly, I was hoping to meet someone today," she practically beamed at him. She secretly hoped he could stay around for a little while so she could learn more about him. "I'm Bubbles."

"Bubbles." Mezzo smiled kindly, not letting the amusement of the adorable name show. It seemed most of the Mers he had encountered had somewhat unusual names to those he knew on land, things like "J-Dawg" and "Bubbles" seemed unusually common, but then originally Darius, Cuauhcoatl's Second eldest, was originally dubbed "Chompy" by his actual parents who had abandoned him to fend for himself before he was even a full year old, so perhaps it was simply cultural. Either way, the name 'Bubbles' seemed inherently.. Cute.

Charmingly so in fact, and it seemed to fit her personality from what he had seen of it. It was rather easy to be comfortable around such a mare, and he always did have a fondness for mares with outgoing, chipper, easy going personalities, and enjoyed spending time with them, "Its a pleasure to meet you, Bubbles. Now.."

He walked slowly around her, wading into the shallow, sunwarmed water a little to investigate what was going on and what he could do, brain clicking pieces together, "lets see... hrmn.... Don't try right now, but are you fairly good at turning around in tight quarters when given a bit of buoyancy to lift you up?"

He lifted his eyes to meet hers again, standing before her in the shallow water, "I might be able to build a little dam behind you and dig out the sides of the stream a little to create a place for the water to pool and rise around you so you can get turned around, then when it breaks you'll have to swim with the wave into deeper water -- or repeat the process if it gets too shallow again but since you stopped here hopefully it'll be enough, but I need to know just how much space you need to turn around in." He pawed at the earth a little, displacing some of the rocks and rolling them towards the edge of the stream, planning on using some of them to build the edges of the 'dam'. He'd have to use something breakable with a kick and make sure it was easy enough for her to get through, but he had a feeling what he had could work.

Bubbles' tail flipped back and forth leisurely as she watched him wandering around her, she could almost see his brain working as he looked at her situation. Just her luck that a nice guy like him happened to find her, she never expected him to actually put so much thought into it. Maybe just.. y'know.. push her back or something. But he was talking about building something and water flow. The extra effort made her smile.

"Yes, I believe I can manage that. Sometimes my hooves are actually good for something," she laughed a little. She wasn't sure if she should move out of the way.. not that she could move anyhow, but he was trying so hard and she didn't want to hinder him. "Is there something you need me to do? Please let me help you, I'll feel terrible if you do all this work while I just.. flop around here like a fish." Her tail flopped to emphasize her point. "And you'll get all wet. You could mess up your... head.. thing." She still wasn't sure what the item's purpose was but she was pretty sure it wasn't supposed to get soaked with water.

Chuckling softly, Mezzo shook my head before meeting her eyes with a mischievous smirk, "I'll worry about my head wrap -- its not like it hasn't gotten wet before. And if perhaps you can try loosing some of the rocks near you and pushing them closer to the edge of the river so I can grab them for this dam -- it might help make things a little deeper for you as well. But otherwise relax and try not to dry out. If you need some water splashed on your back just ask: Its nothing to be ashamed of."

He moved behind her, past her tail as he rolled rocks into the water, sometimes pawing them up from other parts of the river and moving them to either side, singing a soft, bouncy melody to keep his captive audience entertained. Every now and then he'd glance over at her -- even with a mer or two in Yectenehua, he'd never really gotten a good look at them, their bodies almost always too far under water to really see them in their entirety, as he couldnt see underwater the same way a kelpi could to really look at them. Part of him had always expected little flipper-like proto-legs where their back legs should be, or at least some sort of sign that they had descended from land soquili. It seemed that whenever they parted ways with the 'generational change' Cuauhcoatl spoke of, it had been long enough to erase all traces of their heritage. The Fact that Kelpi could breed with Mer's likely meant the semi-aquatic breed was some sort of missing link between soquili and Mers, having gone down a different path. The end result was, in some ways, ethereal and enchanting, sleek and powerful yet graceful and.. Dainty despite how large mers often were on average compared to land based soquili.

Mezzo had always been a bit of a sucker for 'dainty' features, a thought that caused the young stallion to flush slightly, blinking to himself as he continued to try and build the dam to free the mare.

Clearing his throat as he realized he had trailed off in his song while in thought, working at either side of the dam, which had a gap in the middle wide enough for Bubbles to swim through, but wasn't holding enough water back currently to lift the mer. Returning to her front side, he began to gather thin, long branches into a single location, partially propped up against a boulder, "So, Bubbles... Ah.. Well.. What brought you to this part of the river?"

He smiled charmingly at her, trying to spark the conversation back up as he shook part of his headwrap loose with a couple flips of his head, before lowering his head to paw it off the tangle on the top of his head, shaking the striped scarf loose, his bells chiming noisily as he did so.

Bubbles smiled a bit sheepishly. Of course his head wrap would be fine, silly of her to worry about a thing like that. It just seemed that perhaps it had taken some time for him to get it all up on his head like that and would be a shame if it was ruined on her account. She nodded at his request and tried to scoot the rocks toward the outer edge of her little confined area. It was a bit a difficult considering her range of mobility was limited but she did what she could, it was the least she could do since he was trying so hard to help her out. "Oh you don't need to worry about me. Or at least not about drying out, I have that covered," she slapped her tail down in the water with a loud smack and showered herself with droplets of water.

And also effectively doused him with water as well.

"Oh dear! I'm so sorry! Jeez, I'm terrible. A nice guy helps me out and I soak him." She wasn't the show off type, so it would figure this was what she would get when she did try to show off and be self-sufficient. Bubbles stuck her head underwater, very similar to how an ostrich might bury it's head in the dirt, but at least she could breathe underwater. Once she'd officially scolded herself, she peeked back out to peer up at the stallion. He was shaking his head wrap off, and her nosiness got the better of her as she stuck her neck out to nose around in the fabric. It was so.. fuzzy! And soft.

Lost in her own thoughts for a moment she slowly peered up at him again, assuming by now he was thinking she was a loon. "Ah well, creatures like you bring me up here," she smiled. "I've always been so fascinated with your world, and I can only see so much from the ocean, so I started traveling up different rivers to try and see new things and perhaps meet some new individuals. Which I suppose I succeeded!" she giggled. "What is this thing anyway?" Her attention turned back to the scarf. "Does it have some sort of purpose?"

Mezzo laughed as he was splashed, flinching away slightly in surprise but not insulted by the drench, instead amused and pleased by it, "It's only water -- I enjoy a good swim sometimes so it's not a bad experience.. But I'm glad I'm able to fulfill that. Prhaps when we get you out of here I can introduce you to my herd: we're a bit of a mixed bag, we even have a Mer and a Seathi stallion in our group as it is, so its not as if we're not used to socializing with Water bound soquili. You'd be more than welcome to stay for a while.. Or.. Maybe even join if you wanted to. A-after getting to know us better, that is, of course. I wouldnt.. Well.. Expect you to join without seeing the main territory, we're not usually in this particular part of the peninsula. We're further up the big river -- lots of little canals and pools made for large mers to travel through and rest in.. Some of them even go into buildings as shelter.... "

A rather big part of him hoped she'd stick around and join the herd, at least temporarily, -- she seemed interested in meeting land soquili, and she seemed to be an interesting enough mare that he wouldn't mind learning more about her, and perhaps meeting the group would make her happy. Especially since it was such a mixed group with travelers that come sometimes to learn about things or trade with them. Besides, she might need some looking over to insure she wasn't harmed.. "You could even try some land food that way... J-Dawg, Thats the mer member I mentioned, tends to eat a lot of sea grasses.. I think... But he also enjoys some of the other stuff we have sometimes. Honey cakes are especially tasty.."

Taking his scarf into his teeth, he laid it out and draped part of it over his leg for Bubbles to investigate, "As for this, its a cloth wrap -- It helps keep the sun from being too strong on my head in the summer heat, keeping my head cooler, and yet somehow also helps keep me warm in the winter when its colder -- or according to my father, Nights in the desert he comes from year round. I've never been however." He smiled mischievously, "However its current purpose? Is to wrap around those tree branches I set up over there to reduce the amount of water going through the river and create a barrier I can pull away so you can escape through the opening... Though... Hrmn.."

Once she had her fill of exploring the fabric, he dipped it in the water before draping it across her back a little, zigzagging it back and forth across the drying skin. Mers dried out so much easier than Kelpi, and being wet was a necessity to keep them from dehydrating, and he was earnestly concerned for her well being, "I'll have to work fast once I'm done using it to put water on you but first -- feeling any better?"

Bubbles felt that she had dodged a bullet there. Lucky for her, he wasn't the kind who would be infuriated by getting wet and storm off leaving her in quite a pickle. She visibly relaxed when he laughed, relieved that he wasn't upset. "Well for all I know, you could be a rare species that dissolves when wet. I could have just killed my rescuer with a simple splash. Luckily you seem to be pretty durable so, we don't need to be alarmed yet." She giggled at her own little joke.

She was fascinated by him talking, and found it a bit endearing when he dropped a little stutter in the middle. He seemed to be talking so fast and yet still trying not to pressure her into deciding something too hastily. Once she finally focused on what he was saying though, her eyes grew wide. Her attention was completely his, and with a few sentences he had captivated her.
"Really?" she managed to let out in a little whisper of awe. It was her dream to see more, learn more, meet more! And here was her chance in the form of an incredibly kind stallion. He probably thought he was just being kind, offering a little trip for her to take, but to her he was offering the whole world.

"I'll do it!" she blurted out, hopefully not interrupting him too much. "I mean, I'll visit. I would love to!" She was on the verge of leaping out of the water she had so much excitement coursing through her. "Whatever there is to see, I want to see it. I want to try honey cakes and see your herd." She was getting ahead of herself, and she had to calm down before she scared him off. Her head got sucked down into the shallow water, with only her eyes peeking out, as she blew bubbles out of her mouth. A quick way to shut herself up.

She listened quietly as he talked about his cloth wrap and then perked her ears as the soft fabric was pulled across her back. Lifting her head up out of the water, her head turned to peer at it, ears pricked in its direction with extreme curiosity. It seemed to be some kind of.. sponge! Yes it must be part sponge if it was able to hold water like that. Aside from that, it actually felt.. good. Oh dear, was she flushing? "Ah um, yes! Very much so! I'm alright, really, no need to worry so much about me. Thank you for that though."

"mmhmn.." Mezzos ears twitched slightly, one tilted forwards to listen to her as the other turned to the side as he thought, letting Bubbles skin absorb more of the liquid from his scarf. He glanced over at the branches, then at the pile of Rocks as he stood in the water that gently tugged at his legs below his knees. Light sparked ins his eyes as realization hit him and he stompped his hoof, splashing Bubbles in the process, "I've been over thinking this!"

Taking his scarf back, he looped it up, dunked it in the water, then, as it rapidly drained, poured water over Bubbles back before he carefully stepped over her, his front hooves at either side of her as he once more draping part of his scarf along her back, but looping it loosely under her chin around and up, gently plopping the end of it on the top of Bubble's head. He chuckled, "I'm going to want this back.... But I don't believe I'll be needing it for this after all for this -- I have a better way to block the water that is easier to move all at once..."

Finishing his steps across, he moved over to the dam, putting the two rock piles between him and Bubbles, "We'll get you to the camp in a little bit once I take a little bath." Laughing, he carefully laid himself down, legs under his body, and leaned against the rocks slightly, using himself as a barrier against the water and keeping his legs under him enough to let him leap out of the way when the time was right.

For a few moments, feeling the water rush past and over him, quicker between gap enough to make it rise up and over him, making the makeshift stone barrier struggle as water seeped through it, he worried that his idea would fail -- and if he couldn't block the water, there was very little he could do. However he could feel the amount of water spilling over him increase as the water got backed up, and thin slightly on his other side, "You should be feeling buoyant again soon!..... I hope.."

Bubbles watched him curiously and looked up as he stood over her. She blinked a couple times as she could finally see how much larger he was than her, and then all of a sudden a wet cloth was obstructing her view. She tossed her head a couple times to move it out of her face and giggled. "How fun! I can see why you wear this thing, it's quite the accessory."

Enjoying the cool wetness of the scarf she continued to watch Mezzo as an idea formed in his head. Confused at first when he lay in the river, it then became clear what he was doing as more water started to fill up around her. "Well I'll be a sea monkey, it really worked." The water was still shallow but she was able to move around more. "Alright, I got it. We jump at the same time. You jump up and I'll jump underneath you, then the current will take my back down to the deeper part." Or at least she hoped that was the plan. "Ready?"

"Ready and on Three..." Mezzo carefully adjusted himself, his muscles bunching slightly as he readied himself "One....."

It was amazing how in only a few seconds time seemed to slow down. He licked his lips, vision growing acute and focused, heart racing as he struggled against the water and thrummed with anticipation. The Young Amachi's ears backed slightly as his nostrils flared, his body coiled and ready like a tightly wound spring,

"Two...."

It was getting harder to hold the water at bay as it began to trickle over his back and around him, deep enough to let the mer move freely and give enough force to make it hard to hold still. Thankfully it wouldn't last much longer. While he had his doubts in his abilities to get out of the way in time, now was no time for doubts.

"THREE!"

The stallion released the energy all at once, bursting from where he lay, legs slipping slightly on wet rounded stones but managing to push himself up and out of the way. It was in no way graceful, partially pulled along by the force of the rushing water, but he managed to keep himself upright and completely out of the mares way before the rushing water carried her down the stream and into deeper beds, no longer so shallow as to prevent proper buoyancy, his back legs pulled high and tight as he landed on the shore to prevent kicking her in the head, before coiling down to meet just behind his front legs before he took a few more slowing bounds away from the stream as momentum carried him.

It didnt take long for him swing back around towards her, prancing alongside the stream with her, Mezzo laughed merrily with a couple cheerful bucking kicks, "it worked!" He shook himself down from the head to the tail with a tinkling of bells in his excitement, proud of himself for having actually figured it all out on his own, "I was worried I'd mess up and not get out of the way fast enough for the water to not just trickle down till it couldn't carry you along anymore... Or that you'd get stuck again just a little further down and I'd have to start again in even deeper water... But it did it!"

He spun around a bit merrily, dancing in place, before trotting back into the water, which had quickly gone from belong his knees to almost to his chest and stomach, almost deep enough to swim but not quiet, "how are you feeling? Ready to go meet the herd?" He grinned, his hair completely out of place and plastered to his face by the water, a toothy grin playing on his lips as the water rushed around his legs, tugging at him. He was absolutely soaked but clearly didn't care, "It's a slightly longer swim than walk since we have to go to the river to get south, but we should be there within the hour."

Bubbles waited with anticipation as Mezzo started counting down. She wasn't as nervous as he was, she was incredibly confident in his skills to free her from her temporary water prison... Or lack of water prison?
Once he counted to three, she pushed off on the bottom of the stream and shot forward with the current, ducking her head into the water and practically flying downstream. It went off without a hitch! But with her extra push and the strong current she went down farther than expected and when her head popped back up out of the water she had to search for a moment to see where she was and also where Mezzo had gone.

It didn't take him long to catch up and she beamed at him. "I don't think that could have gone any better than it did!" She laughed at his enthusiasm. "Thank you again for helping me out. I'll have to be more careful if I'm swimming up strange rivers by myself in the future."

Bubbles had almost forgotten his offer of introducing her to his herd and she got giddy all over again. "Yes! Erm.." she cleared her throat. "Yes, of course. I can't wait to see it. Just lead the way!" She smiled at him and swam around in the deeper part of the river and waited for him to start walking.

The stallion couldn't help but give a grin at her enthusiastic response, his head tilting to the side a little, water still dribbling out of his hair bell and shorter hair plastered to his fur. She was just far too.... Cute. It was hard not to love her and how excited and, well, Bubbly She was. Though the stallion felt sort of silly using her name as a descriptor.

He quickly took to trotting alongside the river, picking up speed as he noted that, with her going downstream and being so streamline, even a casual swim did seem to be a quick but comfortable clip for him, "You're going to love Yectenehua. It's lead by Ikinya and Cuauhcoatl, one of the most adorable Usdia and Angeni pairs ever who are just going to love you to bits -- you'll be lucky if they don't try to adopt you as their own." He paused, unsure of how much she knew about land breeds or how many she had met before. He personally had only met a few mers in his life, But he grew up around J-dawg his entire life so he had some general knowledge about the different aquatic breeds. But it was possible he had an unfair advantage -- perhaps she didn't know what Usdia and Angeni were. He felt a little odd talking without really explaining what things were, not knowing if she knew what, but also didn't want to assume she was uneducated and appear to be talking down to her.

Last thing he wanted was to accidentally insult his current companion, not when they were getting along so well at the moment.

"So, Bubbles... How much do you know about Land soquili? Do you have any questions I could answer" Mezzo smiled, pronking slightly as all four feet left the ground playfully as he bound along the bank with her, breaking his rhythmically fine gait to instead bounce beside her, the jangling of his bells turning into a clearer rhythm as he did so, his shorter hair and tail flying free while his weighted down ponytail clunked against his collarbone, "I'd be more than happy to answer any questions you have"

Mezzo's smile was bright, eye dancing with light as he bounced side to side without breaking his forward momentum, once again enjoying the feeling of moving, but this time enjoying the company beside him. Something about the dusty blue mare made him act as if he was positivity smitten and trying to impress -- perhaps that was the honest case, even if the stallion himself was unaware of his developing crush, "Seriously, ANY questions. Or perhaps you could tell me more about you.." His grin was dopier than ever has he moved slightly closer, splashing in the shallowest water, thinking she looked oddly adorable wearing his soaked headscarf around her own head and neck, "I'd like to know more. Perhaps we could take turns, trading questions and answers... We could make it a game to pass the time as we travel."

Mezzo sure was a character, and Bubbles was enjoying every minute in his company. She hardly noticed how different they were anymore. Instead of studying him like some kind of foreign alien creature, she saw the stallion talking and laughing with her. She didn't see that he had four legs and she only had two, she saw a new friend who was genuinely interested in her.

Although she had to admit she had no idea what he was talking about.
"Ah well. I'm not sure what you just said. Us..Usdee? And the other Angle one. But I'm sure I'll learn as we go and once we get there! That's the exciting part about new adventures and meeting new people." She giggled at his antics and found herself bobbing along with him, splashing about in the water a little. "I'm not sure if I have any other specific questions. More like I have questions about everything! Like why some of you look so different from each other. I mean, us mers are pretty simple. Tail, two legs, some fins. But some of you have wings, some a very small, some have long strange whip tails. I don't know how to keep track!" She did a little roll in the water after her exclamation.

Bubbles peered up at him curiously when he asked about her. "More about me? Hmm. I'm not sure, I feel that I live a very simple life out in the ocean. I have a dolphin friend named Nebula, she keeps me company. I like talking to all the fish and see where they've been in the ocean. And sometimes I swim up rivers to see new things and get myself stuck!" she laughed.

"What about you? What do you do when not rescuing damsels in distress?"
