Today was the day.
Even after learning that it was allowed, it had taken Nireill quite a while to work up the nerve to actually walk into the Tower. She'd been close several times now, walking right by the doors- once even pausing for a long moment- but ultimately hurrying away down the street without entering the intimidating building.
Part of her still expected them to throw her out on her tail if she set foot inside.
It hadn't happened, of course. She'd found her nerve, stepped through the doors, and security hadn't descended upon her head. Not much of anything happened, actually- it was pretty busy, people bustling about doing all sorts of things, and nobody paid much attention to one random citizen standing by the entrance (the security, of course, did take note, classed the wide-eyed kid as 'non-threat' for the moment, and did nothing. She didn't even notice them at the time).
After a long moment of gawking (and someone almost running into her from behind, because she was still standing right in the damn doorway) she finally moved further into the lobby, and approached what looked to be the main reception, where she explained a little hesitantly that she’d been told people could come here for help, and her money was getting a little tight. And it was true! She just left out the part where she was also hoping to see all sorts of really neat robots, and talk to (at) them, and maybe find out where they get built.
Ignorant to her ulterior motives, the smiling receptionist- wow, she was probably a robot!- then directed her a few floors up to a service counter, where she had been promptly given a couple bags full of pantry staples, and various packaged snack foods. (She’d also shiftily nabbed a can marked with a large ‘E’ from a free vending machine marked for robots. Was this a robot drink? Super cool.)
After that, she'd found herself a bench within view of the elevators, and had spent nearly an hour now picking through her snacks and watching people come and go- every so often she’d think someone looked robot-ish for whatever reason, and she’d scuttle over to ask if they were, in fact, all metal inside. A few even answered her (some just looked at her really oddly), but they’d all seemed busy, and had quickly gone about their business.
She understood of course- everyone here probably had really important things to be doing- but she was still hoping that she’d come across someone with a little time to chat.Demy-Stardust asdf I'm sorry this took me so long to get going. ^.^;; (Blues probably wasn't looking forward to it anyways, lol)

Poor General Blues simply had no idea what was waiting for him.
The red bot often felt the need to simply move. He (unless he was feeling lazy, or sluggish due to core issues) liked to keep moving. It could be described as restless, or....well, something. Really he just wandered the Tower, avoiding everyone as much as possible while still staying on the move. He'd likely have better luck with the movement thing if he went -outside-, but given recent events (and his general unease around the Citizens) that wasn't always an option.
Today was one of those days he felt like braving the lower floors, but not quite going all the way outside. How bad could it be? Surely no one would bother him. He'd just go down there, walk the floors a bit and make his presence be known, then return to the upper levels.
Surely, it was a brilliant plan.
The next time the elevator door opened, Blues calmly strolled out. He was in his battle uniform, minus his helmet (no reason to use it to hide his ears anymore, they matched now!) and his gun. His shield rested comfortably on his back however, like the security blanket it usually was.
First things first? Pick up an E-tank. He moved over to the vending machine, taking little notice of anyone around him.

Nir had perked right up as the doors slid open, just as she had every other time the elevator had stopped on this floor, and watched with great interest as a lone figure emerged and headed straight for one of the vending machines. One of the robot drink vending machines. And yes, this guy must be a robot, he looked dressed for duty and everything! (The gun alarmed her a little bit, actually, but wow the shield was cool.)
…Wait. Wait a minute. That outfit was familiar. It took a second, but she gasped audibly as she realized just where she’d seen it before- only once, on a screen, trussed up behind a grey-furred criminal.
Was this General Proto?
She scampered over to stand next to the vending machine, coming up beside the bot with what she hoped was a respectful few feet still between them. “Um, sorry, excuse me? Sir?” She looked up at the slightly taller form, eyes wide and looking concerned. “Are you General Proto?”

Look, he had wanted his presence to be known, not acknowledged. Really he had just wanted the lower bots to know he was out and about and thus do their work to the best of their ability.
Unfortunately such a simple plan was quickly ruined by the approach of a smaller Audio. Just ignore them Blues, they'll go away soon eno---
Damnit.
"Yes...though they simply call me Blues these days." He gestured quickly to his ears and tail before turning back to the task at hand. The bot retrieved his E-tank from the vending machine before returning his gaze to the other. No need to be rude.
Yet.
"Did you need something?" He was going to regret asking that, he was sure of it.

”Oh, I’m sorry! I didn’t realize. Though now that she thought about it, he did seem way more blue than she remembered from that brief glimpse on film. Did robots change color?
She started slightly as he asked if she needed something, returning her thoughts to the immediate conversation. “Um, sorry I just… Are you okay?” she blurted suddenly, fidgeting slightly. It seemed as though getting that one all important question out was all it took to crack the dam though, and she continued quickly. “I saw that awful broadcast, and there wasn’t anything I could do I didn’t even know where that was and it was so scary just to watch and I couldn’t find news about what was happening and if everyone was alright and…” she broke off with a sharp inhale, eyes wide and just a little damp looking.
It was possible she’d only paused because she finally needed to breathe.Demy-Stardust Yes, yes you probably will regret asking. xD

.....Okay seriously what was going on?! Everyone was so damn EMOTIONAL around him lately! Even those he had just met. It was sort of getting ridiculous, and Blues definitely didn't know how to handle it. So he just stared for a moment, til he caught himself doing it and forced himself to react somehow. "I...appreciate the thought."No really. Here was some completely random Citizen he had -never- interacted with, expressing concern over that incident and even a desire to have helped him. That was WAY MORE than he had been shown in the past. Really, it...was touching. "It was not a place you wanted to get mixed up in...I have been told the entire place was rigged to explode."He had been there, of course, but by the time the building exploded he had fallen into a recharge coma. So...most of his knowledge of that day and it's events were second hand knowledge from the other Masters. He had noticed the dampness in her eyes, and....well he didn't have anything -else- to offer her..so he offered her the end of his scarf.

Well General, being kidnapped, then tortured and trussed up for a rebel PR shoot broadcast to the entire City was the sort of thing that tended to make people emotional on your behalf. Sorry.
His words sounded like they were intended to reassure, but no matter how much he appreciated it… that’s all it had been, just a thought. A thought hadn’t been able to help him any. There was very little that Nir liked less than seeing people’s pain, and being able to do absolutely nothing about it. She… really didn’t want to feel that way, ever again.
But oh my god, blowing up the whole place? That part certainly got her attention- what was wrong with those people!? “You’re alright though? Everyone made it out in time?” She hated the thought that anyone who went out to help might have been hurt, not least because she wished that she could been there to help, somehow.
When the edge of the scarf was held out, she reached out to take it automatically- wow, it was surprisingly soft-, without even realizing why it was being offered. It was only then, a moment later, that she noticed the tears about to fall down her cheeks. She dabbed quickly at the corners of her eyes several times, blinking rapidly afterward to try and keep more from welling up. After a moment, when she was fairly sure she had herself together, she handed the corner of the cloth back to its owner almost reverently. “Um, sorry about that. Thank you.” She scuffed a toe against the ground- he was the one who’d had to deal with everything that had happened that day, and here she was the one bursting into tears. It was a little embarrassing.

Blues still didn't understand the emotions. They hadn't been there before! No one -cared- before, and suddenly they did and it boggled his mind. It also made him suspicious...though it was hard to be wary of this particular Citizen. She seemed like she meant well...
And he really didn't want to see her cry.
"No one sustained any injuries that weren't easily repaired back here at the Tower." Blues paused, his tail giving a swish behind him. "And yes...I am fine." He was a bit different but...whatever. Essentially he was fine, and back among those who apparently cared quite a bit for him. More than he had ever realized, honestly.
He was still a moody bot though.
"Don't worry about it, though forgive my...unease. It is not every day a citizen comes up to me to express concern."

Well, Nir hadn’t been here before! And, you know, she’d been a little fluffy puppy at the time. But if she had been here, and been old enough to understand the gravity of a hero’s stand, she would absolutely have cared. Caring was sort of her thing- she wished she could wrap the whole world up in blankets and pillows and make everything okay.
The news that everyone was alright though went a long way toward keeping her from tears, and after one last small sniffle, the smile returned to her face. ”I’m really glad to hear that!” Her tail also began to swish behind her, reflecting the turn in her mood. ”I hope it wasn’t hard to fix everyone up afterward?” They wouldn’t have to wait for things to heal on their own like fleshy-audios did, certainly, which must be nice. The swishing of her tail sped up- now that her mind wasn’t so occupied by worry, she was starting to regain some of the curiosity and excitement that had brought her here in the first place.
His last comment though got a furrowed brow and slight frown out of her. “Really? Why?” She was honestly confused. “I’m really new here and there’s still a lot I don’t know, but I met a friend who told me a little about robots and Robot Masters- aren’t you all here to do important jobs and help people and stuff?” Who wouldn’t show concern for the people here to help them?

Ah....that explained some things. A new Citizen..someone not tainted by the past. And one who had no idea about his ill-fated stand. Suddenly it all made sense. Maybe...he could give this one a chance then. Didn't change the fact he was a bit bothered that he made a bad judgement coming down to these floors today. But she was definitely not hostile, so what would it hurt to play friendly for a while? "Well, that depends on who you ask. There's plenty in the City that feel just as you do, then there's those who don't feel like we belong here. Unfortunately that happens to be the group I have more history with, which is why I am unaccustomed to Citizens worrying over me."

The confused frown was still in place- in fact, it may have gone just a touch deeper at that. “Why don’t they go somewhere else then? There’s plenty of places out there where nobody can even dream up the sorts of things that have been built here.” She’d grown up in one of them- a tiny town, a simpler life. It hadn’t been bad, not at all, but after being here even for such a short time, it just seemed… very small. “If they don’t like robots and don’t want to play nice they should go somewhere like that.” She actually still couldn’t understand why someone wouldn’t like robots anyways- how wild was it that it was possible to build an actual person. And really nice people, even! (She thought so anyways, so far.)
Which made it even more wrong, she felt, that he’d dealt more with people who wanted him gone than ones who appreciated the hard work he did for everyone who lived here. (Whatever it was exactly that a General did- she still wasn’t super clear on that, other than a vague idea that it involved more or less herding a bunch of other robot masters.) “That’s not right. People should let you know that they appreciate your help, and be willing to do our part too!” She brightened up a bit then, tail starting to pick up speed behind her again. ”I really like it here, and I want to stay for a long time, so I’m going to make sure I find some way that I can help too.” She honestly had no idea what it could be, but she was going to find something that she could do, dammit.

"I suppose it is easier for them to stay somewhere they are unhappy than venture out into the unknown to find a place better suited for them."Hell...that is how he felt sometimes. There were days he just wanted to leave, but the uncertainty of it all kept him right where he was currently. A rare smile crossed the General's face as the other expressed interest in wanting to help. Now that, that was a Citizen he could like. Those who were useful, hardworking, ones that wanted to make a difference. They were alright in his book. "I am sure you will find a place to fit in around here, the City has many opportunities for those wishing to seek them out."He...even went so far as to reach over and ruffle the headfur between the other one's ears. Oh yes...he was actually in a somewhat friendly mood. For the moment.

She was still honestly baffled. That was so sad, that people would choose to be unhappy. It certainly made her sad- people being unhappy made her heart hurt (even, a little bit, if those people were jerks)- she couldn’t understand anyone choosing that for themselves. “But how can anyone ever find new things without braving a little uncertainty?” That was easy for her to say though. Nireill had never been very gifted at planning ahead- everything that had ever happened in her life, she’d barreled into unprepared. The unknown, to her, was the everyday, and she woke in the morning excited about what a new day might teach her.
It helped a great deal that she’d been very fortunate, and none of her ‘adventures’ so far had gone horribly south.
Her ears twitched slightly as he reached over to ruffle her short fluff, and the instant his hand left she was trying to pat the displaced fur back down- geez, she looked scruffy enough already in her ratty old shoes and slightly-worn clothes!- but despite all that it still made her laugh happily. People had been doing things like that to her back home for as long as she could remember- it was a comfortable memory, even in a new place and with new people. ”I hope you’re right! There seems to be so much happening all the time it’s a little overwhelming, but that means there also has to be lots that needs to be done. I just need to find one of them that I can be good at!” If someone so important thought she could find a place here though, there was no way she was going to fail!
“Oh, oh!” she exclaimed suddenly, actually bouncing slightly on her toes. “I just remembered! Can I ask you a question?” She rambled straight on without waiting for a reply, or acknowledging that she had just asked a question. “What’s a ‘Proto’?” She blinked up at him earnestly, but did go on quickly to explain. “When my friend was explaining some about robot masters, it seemed like everyone had names that make a lot of sense, like Quick being really fast, and Sheep being fluffy like a sheep, but he didn’t know what ‘Proto’ meant. Blues makes a lot of sense, since you’re such a nice color, but if everyone else’s names are really logical there must have been a reason you were called Proto before, right?”Demy-Stardust …And here we go, Nir begins to use up whatever goodwill she’s accumulated. xD

Blues had fallen quite silent on the further discussion of the Citizens and their actions. Who knew why they did what they did. They were assholes, was pretty much the bot's opinion. No reason to dwell on it further. His ears did perk back up at her question though. ....Huh, the robot masters really -did- have names that sort of described them, didn't they? Though he had to just smirk and shake his head at both the comment on his fur color, and the question of what a Proto was. Sigh. "I am not named after the color, but the style of music. My fur wasn't always blue anyway."Now it was, and at the moment his tail was poofing up a bit. "...As for what a Proto is. It's short for Prototype. I was the first advanced robot my father built, and though my real name is Blues....well, Proto just sort of fits too. It worked for a name for a while."He gave a small shrug of his shoulders, his gaze shifting off to stare at the wall again. "I'd rather go back to being called Blues...being constantly reminded I'm a prototype is starting to wear on my circuits."

Ha, he had changed color! Good to know her eyes hadn’t been playing tricks. “Well, that just means your name sort of has double meaning, then!” She personally liked the color reason better- it was a really nice color!- but it was his name, so it was up to him. Maybe he really liked music?
She was so happy to have an answer to her burning question though, and the enthusiastic speed of her tail swishing behind her and the way she was nearly bouncing reflected this pretty clearly- she couldn’t wait to find Glitch again and let him know her discovery! He’d told her so many things, now she had something she could tell him in return! It was only one thing, sure, but she had to start somewhere!
She was a bit confused though by Blues’ tone at the end, and the way he looked off to the side- it made it sound to her like he thought there was something bad about his status? The corners of her mouth tilted down slightly, and she tilted her head curiously. “What’s wrong with being a prototype though? I mean, you’re really cool, and you have a really important job being a boss-boss robot and helping people and all that- obviously you’re really awesome, no matter how many people did or didn’t get built before you?” She wasn’t seeing anything wrong here- and nobody would have such an important job if they weren’t capable, would they? She honestly thought his dad must be pretty awesome too, if Blues was his first try (and how cool, that robots had parents too!)
Suddenly, she clapped her hands over her mouth, eyes wide and apologetic. “Ohmigod, I’m sorry! You just finished saying that you’re sick of being reminded, and there I go rambling on about it anyways. Sorry, sorry, ignore me!” She dragged her hands up slightly to hide the rest of her face in embarrassment- people often told her she talked way too much, and this had just become one of the few times she was inclined to agree.
