& There was a gathering among male younglings at the northern edge of the town of Etine. “It’s that witch lady… Why is she here?” one grumbled while placing his hands firmly on his hips; likely something his father would have done at home, “She’s nothin’ but trouble my pop says… We should stay away.”
“Psh! To Chi with that! Someone’s gotta go out there!” another replied, his hood falling from his head as he turned to look back at the growing group behind him, “Tafiir! You’re the fastest of us… You go out there and see what she wants.”
“I heard she has a three eyed spitrog~ Do you think it’s true?”
“Tafiir you should totally steal it! I-If it’s true, of course…”
Stepping through the grouping of boys, Tafiir stripped off his cloak and placed it in the arms of the nearest youngling, “Hold onto this, I’ll be back before you know it.” He replied with a cocky smirk, but before he could take off he felt a hand grab his wrist.
“You don’t really think I’m going to let you do this… Do you?” the voice of reason had parted the boys just in time to stop Tafiir.
“Awww Man! Faraya, this is a boy’s club… What are you doing here?!” growled the larger youngling who initiated the challenge to Tafiir.
“Back off.” Tafiir snapped to the boy, “Faraya, I won’t get hurt and we’re all curious. I’m the fastest. They won’t even see me.” He pulled his wrist from the girls grip and started his way to the back side of the lone witch hut.
“Papa isn’t going to like this~” Faraya called as she yanked the cloak from the boys arms and stroked it gently, watching nervously as Tafiir ran off into the unknown.
“Well you can’t go and tell him!? That’ll get Tafiir in trouble!” the club members turned and hissed at her, “You have to promise not to tell~”

Baba had spent most the day gathering herbs and supplies. She had a salve in mind, one that would numb sore muscles. She already had one in her recipe book but she wanted a stronger one. Some of the materials were unstable and could cause burning instead so she would need to test it first.
Her guinea pig so to speak was her spitorog Hemlock. He didn't complain when she tested her products on him and was the perfect subject. Despite dipping him in various poisons, brews, and concoctions he hasn't died on her. What ever strange mutation he had that contributed to his third eye, it apparently contributed to his remarkable recovery and immunity to whatever potion she tested on him.
She had just finished mixing her new salve and started looking for Hemlock. The mindless thing was probably sitting on a barrel outside or rolled under the bed.
"Hemlock!" She called out, not that he has ever responded to being called before, she tried anyway. akuma_kessaku looks like its up to him to find hemlock before baba does! he could be found anywhere in or around her house, feel free to use him. he's basically an object at this point.

Tafiir ducked behind the hut like enclosure she called ‘home’ and cowered as her shrill voice cut through the frigid air. He couldn’t imagine that anything would respond to a call like that… If anything it would be smart to make yourself scarce. Keeping low he crept along the back of the hut and peered around the corner to see the front vacant.
Running to the front Tafiir made certain the door was closed before he began sifting through the hodgepodge of items scattered around the fire which held a cauldron lazily bubbling a thick brownish ooze over a few dimly lit coals. ‘if her screechy voice wasn’t enough to scare that toad… the awful smell from this pot will certainly do it…’ He thought while plugging his nose and continuing his search. The fumes were nauseating, but he was determined.
Getting startled by something slamming against the door, Tafiir darted behind a gnarled old tipped over tree and ducked down, hugging his knees. His heart pounded in his chest, as he tried to gain his composure to peek over the log. The door was opened partially, but the witch seemed to still be storming about inside.“BrRroOooOoOoOoaAaAaAaAabBiIiIitTt~”The deep throaty groan nearly sent Tafiir flailing from his hiding place. Looking slightly to his left, at the base of the tree he saw one eye and a pile of greenish filmy bubbles. Sliding closer, he saw a left… then a right… eye open from the lump of bubbles, “Holy Chi~” Tafiir muttered, “You have… You have three eyes…” Being careful to avoid the purplish spikes on the slimy green spitrog he hefted the fat creature from its den at the base of the log and struggled to his feet, “Eeeeew… What are you covered in?” He grumbled as he looked at the three foot slime tendrils that dripped from the creature to the log. Looking at the creature he would have sworn it smiled at him as he commented on its revolting appearance… “You’re meant for each other.” He grumbled while stuffing the rigid creature into a sack to bring back to his club.

The familiar croak of Hemlock faintly reached her ear. She thought she heard something else, murmuring. She made her way to the door and peeked outside. Had Hemlock finally come around and spoke to her? The whisper spell she cast on him hadn't worked, maybe it took a few weeks to have effect?
She scanned the brush outside her home like a hungry vulture. She tried to call out to him again, "Hemlock! I have prepared a nice herbal bath for you!" she tempted. She thought she could see some movement. To much movement to be Hemlock. Baba narrowed her eyes in suspicion.
"Who's that?!" she yapped. She reached down to the tome tied to her hip. "You better not be taking my things! You want to know what happens to people who take my things!?!?" her voice heightened and shook as she increased in volume. "I turn nasty little thieves into nasty little spitorogs" she threatened. She couldn't see who was out there, but she was fairly sure someone was there. And she was determined she wouldn't let them leave till they were shaking in their boots.

Tafiir dropped to the earth and crawled back to the shelter of the stump, “That witch s’crazy…” he huffed a breath as he hugged the bag tight to his chest, “She can’t really…” his throat tightened the more he considered being turned into a spitrog, “Right?"
There was a gurgled, “BrRrRr-” to which he muffled by clapping a hand over the bag. That damn spitrog was gunna get him turned… or worse. Sliding toward the hut along the log he waited to dash behind the shack until the hag stepped out farther into the yard. Once against the hut he shuffled to the back side and let out a sigh of relief; he was out of sight… but not home free.
He had to wait for the opportune moment to retreat back to the town of Etine and the arms of his comrades before he could celebrate. The awkward three eyed rog will definitely be a great boon to celebrate.

She heard it again, "BrRrRr.." the gurgled sound of her Hemlock, only this time more clearly. She had stepped out a little farther and remained very still to listen better. She calmed her breaths so they were predictable. Straining her ears, she attuned to the soft roar of the forest around her.
pat pat pat...
She swiveled her head to hear light foot steps,
*shuffle* pat pat pat...
the sounds had stopped somewhere behind the hut. Baba crept quietly back to the foundation. She slowed even further once she started to creep around the side. Who or whatever it was, Baba was certain she was going to get the jump on them.
