A beautiful grassland stretches out from Applegate City to Doyle Town. There are a few trees here and there, but mostly it's just long fields of lush green grass and rolling hills. To the northwest of Applegate City there is a large lake that most of the Pokémon in the area use as a watering hole.
Leaving Applegate City, you'll find a trail that winds its way through the hills and plains all the way to Doyle Town. It's about a day's walk, but there are a few trees along the path, and it's generally safe to stop for a rest on the way.
