A traditional dojo located in Applegate City. It is run by master Yamamoto Satoshi, and is famous for producing talented trainers. Yamamoto Sensei is an expert on Pokémon techniques, and can teach a trainer's Pokémon moves that they normally cannot learn. He won't train just anyone, though. Large numbers of students come to him daily looking for training, and almost all of them are turned away. A peace offering is a good idea if you want him to take you seriously. Rumors say that he's a big fan of mushrooms, but that can't be right, can it?

[The Move Tutor is an NPC that your character can interact with and control. You may have your Pokémon learn a new technique for each mushroom you bring him, keeping in mind their limitations. It costs two Tiny Mushrooms or one Big Mushroom for a lesson. Balm Mushrooms are worth two. All three mushrooms can be obtained from the Rowling Forest.

The Move Tutor will also give you special battle items if you use his services enough, in recognition of your hard work. If you train with him three times, he will give you a Black Belt for your Pokémon. Train with him six times for a Muscle Band and finally, nine times for an Expert Belt. Once you have trained with him ten times, Yamamoto will give you a rare Kubfu for your party.]

"The human mind is like a parachute...

The smell of sweat and work out mats greeted Regal as he was led into the dojo. After taking off his shoes and bowing respectfully as he entered, the young trainer made his way inside and introduced himself to Master Yamamoto. The martial arts master was pleased that someone had finally taken him up on his battle request and eagerly brought him over to the three students that he would be battling today.

"To keep things simple, the battles will be one Pokémon for each side." He explained as the first of the students stepped up and released a Mankey out to battle. "Since you are our guest today, the first move is yours."

"Sounds good to me." Regal replied as he released Sylvain out of his ball and addressed his opponent. "Let's have a good match."

And like that, they were off. Being familiar with Mankey and its famous temper, Regal had Sylvain utilize its superior speed to avoid its attacks and frustrate it. As it quickly grew ticked off, the fighting type starting throwing bigger swings and leaving itself open for counterattacks, leading to a quick first victory for Regal.

The second student sent out a beefy Makuhita to battle him next, and visibly scoffed as the trainer sent Magnolia out to face it. The little fairy Pokémon was smaller than his little finger, so Regal wasn't surprised by his opponent's reaction. What the cocky student wasn't expecting was for Magnolia to use its aura sensing abilities to read its attackers movements, allowing it to dodge all of its attacks. Along with a combination of Sweet Scent and Stun Spore, it wasn't long before the already sluggish Makuhita could barely move a muscle and Yamamoto declared the second match Regals victory as well.

His final challenger was definitely more formidable, giving quick and concise commands to her Mienfoo who darted all over the battlefield taking rapid shots at his Charmeleon. Luckily, pinning down agile opponents was becoming something of a specialty to Nova, and a combo of Scary Face and Fire Spin eventually won them their third match.

"You utilize your Pokémon's natural abilities well." Yamamoto commented after the battles were finished. "And your team seems quite disciplined."

The older man questioned Regal about his routine, who answered that they trained for an hour every morning before breakfast to practice different moves and combos, had regular battles while catching Pokémon and that he also made sure to thoroughly study each of his team member's abilities in his Pokédex.

"Studying and practice." He hummed while turning to face his students. "Sometimes it really can be that simple." After instructing the humbled students to return to their drills, Yamamoto asked Regal if the younger man would be interested in studying under him for a while. The gym leader, Ken, was also a student of his, and he would be delighted to see the trainer give him a good match. Regal was all too happy to accept, but inquired as to why he would purposely want to see his student lose.

"He's been on quite the winning streak as of late." Yamamoto replied. "I'm not worried about it inflating his ego, but I'm sure he would welcome a proper challenge for a change. Win or lose, he'll come out stronger for it. And so will you."

And just like that, Regal was accepted into the dojo. Apparently Yamamoto was going to tutor him personally for the gym battle, which the trainer thought was quite the honor. He would need time to prepare though, so they agreed to meet up at the forest where Regal had work to do. He was looking forward to seeing what was in store for him.

"The human mind is like a parachute...

The first thing Yamamoto did after Regal greeted him in the dojo was review his drawings from the previous night. The trainer winced as the master looked the doodles over, but his face offered no signs of being either impressed or disappointed by his efforts. He wasn't sure whether to feel relieved or upset. Setting the sketches aside, Yamamoto then had Regal change into a dogi and join him in the center for some light sparring. He had mentioned to the older man yesterday that he had martial arts experience, but he still wanted to see for himself exactly how adept the trainer was.

"Not bad." He commented after they had finished. "A little rough around the edges, but it's clear that you've been trained well."

A solid review, Regal felt. It had been a pretty one-sided sparring session in his opinion, but at least he hadn't been torn apart like in their Pokémon battle yesterday. Regardless, the master was satisfied enough to move on to other matters. Namely, Regals next task. One of Yamamoto's students was apparently getting something of a big head as of late, and he figured that he could use a little humbling. Apparently he had put up a request for it already, which meant that the trainer would get paid for putting the guy in his place.

After introducing Regal to the student in question, a surly looking youth named Robert, the master quickly ushered the two over to the sparring section of the dojo to duke it out. A three on three battle format was agreed upon, and just like that they were off. Robert led with a beefy Machoke while Regal sent Icarus out to battle. The nimbler Pidgeotto was able to dodge most of its opponents attack easily enough, but struggled to deal lasting damage to the brawny fighting type. After nearly getting smoked by a Cross Chop attack, the trainer decided that he had had enough. It was time to switch tactics.

"Use Tailwind and then come back." He instructed while clipping another ball off his belt. As the winds picked up to hasten his team, the trainer returned Icarus to his ball with one hand while clumsily tossing another capsule into the battlefield with his left. A puff of smoke later, and Regis took the Pidgeottos place in combat as he leapt at Roberts Machoke with his claws already extended. Sped up by the Tailwind, the Luxio darted around the larger opponent while slashing at it from all sides. The cuts themselves might not have felled the hearty fighting type, but the electric shocks that coursed through its body every time it was slashed proved to be too much for it. With swirls in its eyes, the Machoke collapsed to the ground and Robert was forced to switch in his Combusken instead.

"You're up next, Magnolia!"

Switching Pokémon yet again, Regal sent his Cutiefly to battle instead. A choice that even Yamamoto thought was unorthodox, given the tiny Pokémon's weakness to fire. Sure enough though, Regal proved to everyone that he knew what he was doing as he had the little fairy cover her opponent with Powder. Every time the Combusken would attempt a fire type attack, the powder would ignite and end up scorching it instead of its target. Regal thought for sure that Robert would switch Pokémon once his best attacks had been sealed, but the stubborn trainer kept going anyway until a blast of Stun Spore left his Combusken unable to lift a finger. Two down, one to go.

With his temper now spiking after two consecutive losses, Robert sent out his Scrafty and began barking orders more erratically than he had before. Regal decided to play it safe anyway and switched Pokémon a third time so that Icarus could finish things up. A few powerful flying attacks later, and the battle was done. A perfect victory for Regal, who thanked his opponent for the battle while bowing in respect. Thoroughly humiliated, Robert grit his teeth and bowed back before returning to his practice with the others students.

"You're already getting faster at switching Pokémon." Yamamoto noted after the battle was over. "Using Powder to turn Roberts fire attacks back against him was clever as well."

After paying Regal for a job well done, Yamamoto took the time to teach Icarus how to use Heat Wave. He also taught Regis how to use both Signal Beam and Rising Voltage, the latter of which would be especially helpful after the leonine Pokémon evolved into a Luxray. A Black Belt and Muscle Band were also thrown in to better help his team utilize their new attacks. Now that he was all fired up, Yamamoto told Regal his next task would be to participate in the bug catching contest they had helped prepare yesterday. Apparently the master was a regular judge for the contest, which was why he had been so eager to help set it up yesterday. Happy for the opportunity to add more pages to his Pokédex, Regal happily accepted the challenge and the two took off to the Ranger Outpost. Win or lose, it was sure to be an experience he wouldn't soon forget.
