Sherry never took the sunlight for granted. Too much time spent on the island with it hidden away, too much time spent in caves or underground away from it's light. "Mmm," she hummed happily, stretching as she walked in the light of that parent star. "That's different," she replied quietly. Not that too many folks would judge her for talking out loud to nothing. It wasn't like she was alone in her mind or anything. None of them were. "Very different." No, pleasant afternoons like this were...nice. It helped to take her mind off of things. Helped her to forget all the bad things. Sherry sighed. Or not really helped her forget, but it certainly helped her reflect. She wore a sad smile as she meandered along the path on her little walk around the safer parts of the island. kuroopu Did you have any special kind of training in mind? Not that we have to. aha idk where this is going I'm terrible at planning rps. ilu though ;; <3

Gale felt that, in spite of their little home away from home, the island was not exactly a prime real estate spot; which meant that he spent the majority of his time away on missions, figuring out things, running specializations and lists and processing information. It was a love/hate relationship, and half the time Gale wished he could have been outside enjoying the weather, and the other half of the time he wished he could have been inside, hiding away from everything.
This time, fortunately, it was the former, rather than the latter.
Which was why Gale was to be found walking outside, hands tucked into the pockets of his slacks, a plain blue teeshirt pulled on over them. He'd left his coat at home (it was too warm for that), and Jinhai's ring was tucked onto his right index finger, as usual. He looked exactly the same as he always did.
Except that he wasn't paying much attention and smacked into someone about five minutes after beginning to walk. Gale stumbled backwards, rubbing at his nose, and then lifted his gaze to see a familiar face looking back at him.
"Ah," he said, "Sorry; I didn't see anyone. Hey, Sherry."GrnGriff I FIGURED WE'D JUST SORT OF...WING IT... 8'D;;;; /terrible but ilu2 ksldf

Sherry seemed to be of a similar mind about Gale's assessment of the temperature, seeing as she'd left her coat behind as well. Instead she had greeted the sunshine in a cream colored blouse, lightweight, a simple brown skirt with a lovely lace hem, and one of her many pairs of boots. (She refused to be caught in sandals or something when all hell broke loose.) Today was a casual day meant for relaxing, reflecting, admiring the sky and-- "Oh!" Sherry stumbled as she collided with someone. A quick glance to make sure the other party was alright showed her that she'd tried to run over Gale. Or he had tried to run over her...she really couldn't be sure. Reason number one to keep your eyes on the path: Other people use them, too. "No, no! It's fine. I'm the one who's sorry, I wasn't watching where I was going. My fault." It probably was, she reasoned. "You alright?" kuroopu Winging it works for me! : D

He hadn't seen her in a while; and for that matter, Gale didn't really know Sherry Greyson all that well either, other than that she was Jake's girlfriend and a friend of Stormy's, and that she was a pleasant sort of person who was easy to get along with. They had been on a few missions together here and there, and they had interacted several times before, usually all with good results (excepting the time they had gone on that disastrous mission together in the Sahara; though Gale clearly tried not to think too hard about that place as it was), and he was glad to see her all the same. He gave her a small smile, and nodded, waving his hands at her to show that there was nothing broken or bruised.
"I'm fine," Gale reassured her, and slid his hands back into the pockets of his pants. "I wasn't paying attention to where I was going, sorry about that. I should learn to actually look up when I'm walking, maybe then I won't ever run into anyone - literally." He gave her another smile, this one a little bigger, and rocked back on his heels.
<< She sort of looks like you. >>
Hush, you.
Ignoring the now cackling weapon, Jinhai clearly amused with himself, Gale gestured to the path, indicating that Sherry should continue walking if she wanted to. "How have you been lately?" he asked her. "You weren't going anywhere important, were you? I hope I haven't caused you to be late."

"Oh, good." Sherry didn't know what she might have done if he'd been hurt. Even though...Hunter's didn't bruise easily or anything. But lifelong habits were not to be ignored very easily. "We both seem to need lessons in keeping our eyes on the path," she smiled back at him, glad he wasn't angry or anything. It was always easier when both parties had goofed up. Sherry shifted her feet like she might continue walking, but she hesitated, grinning at Gale. "I've been good, relatively. Could always be worse." No infirmary, and aside from nightmares, some small tensions with Jake, and slightly more harrowing than usual missions, well, yeah. Not too bad. "Oh, no. I'm just out for a walk in the sun. A few moments of peace and all that." She was still hesitating at restarting that walk, and now she gestured to indicate he was welcome to join her. she wouldn't mind chatting with Gale. She knew who he was, they'd worked together a little bit...but never really had to much time to talk. Sherry figured she should change that if she could. "What about you? Where are you off to? How have you been?"

Gale's hair had fallen into his face; he pushed it back with a small bit of annoyance, an exasperated expression on his face as he swiped his bangs out of his eyes, trying to push the stray locks into the small ponytail currently tied at the back of his head. He'd let it grow out for some time, and now it was much longer than it had been in a while, almost as long as it had used to be, back when he'd first come to the island. He was still debating whether he wanted to cut it again, to maybe make it easier on himself, get it out of the way; but at the same time, he sort of liked it long again, because it was oddly familiar and strangely reassuring.
"That's true," said Gale in agreement, giving a little nod. "There is, unfortunately, always a worse here at Deus, though I hope to not see that worse anytime soon. I've finally managed to cut a bit of a break for now, and I'd like it to stay like that."
He gave a little laugh. "Not that it will but it's nice to dream, right?"
Sherry was gesturing for him to join her, and Gale fell into step beside her easily, ceasing the fiddling with his hair to slide his hands back into the pockets of his pants. He cast her a slightly shy look but her questions weren't invasive, and he felt relatively at ease talking to her, in spite of their lack of personal time together.
"I was just taking a walk, no big deal," he said, glancing sideways before looking back at Sherry. "It's been up and down, here and there; you know how it goes. You start thinking something's one way and then it turns out to be an entirely different way altogether. Sometimes I wish I could just make things go the way I want them to, but then that wouldn't really do much good in the long run, I don't think."
He gave Sherry a slight smile.
"I did manage to take a little bit of a break, though," he said. "Took a few days off and spent them relaxing at the house, which was nice. I suppose I could have taken the portals somewhere, but that takes so much effort sometimes."
He looked at Sherry again, Gale tilting his head towards her. "What about you? Anything happening in your life lately?"

Sherry laughed with him, a small laugh. "Always nice to dream." They had to find hope somewhere. An easy, comfortable smile grew on her face as they started walking. A glance was sent his way, and Sherry noted that Gale looked much older than he had when she'd first crossed paths with him. Not that she remembered exactly when that had been. Gale had just always been there. There'd been a few missions they worked together, and she knew he was friends with Jake and dating Stormy, and from all that she knew him to be a good sort of person. That made her happy. "Breaks are good. Time to yourself is not something to be taken for granted." She let out a happy sigh. The kind of sight that was made for a lazy afternoon. "Neither is relaxing at home." Simple pleasures, really. "Me? Hm." She shook her head, still smiling. "Not much, aside from the usual. Trying to enjoy all the downtime that I can, doing research, training...the usual." It was hard to separate work from the rest of her life sometimes, what with their job being what it was. Sherry shrugged. "Just happy to not be dead," she said it with a laugh, but it wasn't nearly as funny as she thought it might have been.

<< She has a soothing presence. >>
Maybe that's why she gets along with Jake so well.
<< Either that or she's certifiable. >>
True.
"It seems like we never really get too much time off to do what we went," said Gale with a small laugh. "So I take advantage of it while I can. Sometimes I'll train, but that mostly feels like work, so I changed that to only doing it on days that I don't have off."
He slid a sideways glance at Sherry, his expression softening a little. Happy not to be dead was something they were all feeling, and there were times when it became less of a joke and more of a reality, something that was, sadly, how their lives were to be lived now that they were on the island.
Happy not to be dead.
"Well," said Gale, "If it's any consolation, I'm happy you're not dead, either. Who else would keep Jake in line if you weren't around?"
The last part was gently teasing, a small smile tugging at Gale's lips.

"We certainly don't," she agreed. "Hm. I should make note of that. Keep days off...feeling more like a day off." This was followed by a very thoughtful nod. Then she laughed. A genuine, happy thing. "Thank you." Her hands went to her hips for a moment. "But I suppose if I weren't here to do it, that job would fall to you. I'll do my best to keep that weight off you're shoulders, though." She might have winked at him, but since she was beside him, it was hard to tell. She was still smiling, but her tone grew a little more serious. "Thank you, for all you've done for him. Not just watching his back, but thanks for that, too." Seriously, Gale. She owed you for helping Jake out of trouble. "He looks up to you, you know. Respects you. I think he tries to learn from you." Not that they'd talked about Gale a lot or anything, and Jake certainly had not said it in so many words. But Sherry had a feeling, based on how Jake talked about him. "I'm glad he picked you be his example." Gale was good people, as far as Sherry was concerned.
