Marcus was supposed to run down various lists of trainees and check their progress. Not his idea, but a job he'd been sort of saddled with now that he had the 'job' of training trainees. Honestly he just wanted to take them on missions. Not test them to see how they were doing. It was tedious and a waste of his time really. The better test would be on the real fields. Out against the actual enemy. Training on island was nothing like the reality. Still he left a message for the hunter and said they could bring lunch if they wanted. Marcus expected this to not take very long- or to end with them playing hooky and doing something useful in the human world.

Chel was halfway between Marcus' expectations. She was late, yes, very late, but she DID show up. That had to count for something, right?
"Yo, studly. You Marcus? I expected kind of a dweeby dude with a name like Marcus." Chel was very good with being polite. "Not a beefcake." Though Chel was okay with that. Beefcake was nice too.
She was slightly more disgruntled than usual, seeing as she was apparently going to be tested by this dumb a** academy. Chel had ALWAYS been bad at taking tests thanks to her lovely dyslexia, so she was incredibly put off by the mere mention of the word test, quiz or exam.

He didn’t really anticipate being called a beefcake. Not by anyone but Cass anyway. Looking at the pink haired hunter trainee, Marcus shrugged, grabbed his earring and let the vampire take shape in his hand. “Thanks. I try to at least be useful.” And not be a dweeb- though he hadn’t heard that word since highschool. “It’s a pretty simple test thing. Basically you fight me, I just take notes and give you a score on how well you do or how much you suck.” Stretching he popped his back, wincing as it forced him to look skyward. “In the end I probably will have roasted your a** and you’ll leave worn out and needing rest for your body or ego. Some trainees need more ego rest than others.” He smiled at her. “So, would you like first shot?”

"Alrighty then. Might as well just put me down for an A+. It'd go faster that way." She summoned an arrow on Tenebrae's glowing marks, aiming it right for Marcus, and then dodging left.
She didn't want this fight to be just a bunch of arrow shots. "So what's your story, beefcake? You got a life beyond testing beautiful babes like myself?" What? It was a place to start. Even if she was flirting terribly, it was SOME kind of conversation.

Marcus laughed. She had guts, he'd give her that much. "An A+? Afraid you have to earn it. Compliments might work on other hunters but I am 'the hardass' as some would put it." Her arrow hit it's mark and he smiled as he pulled it from his shield. Always an odd feeling. "My specialty is in training trainees- most in urban landscapes and survival adaptation. I run the urban transport unit. Or, Maintain it anyway." She slashed at her torso. "Beyond my duties I like to cook, read horror novels, and repair things. Job or not, repairs can be relaxing in some contexts." HP: 53 DMG: 3

"Do you also like long walks on the beach and pina coladas?" Chel sassed, a mirthful smile on her face as he listed activities he was interested in.
Transportation unit? "Do you drive the bus?" That was an embarrassing job. Everyone knew that the guy who drove the getaway car got the least amount of action in more ways than one.
She was so caught up in the conversation that she forgot to participate in the fight. "Oh s**t, sorry," she conceded, knocking another arrow and firing.

He laughed. “Yes to beaches, no to the drinks. I’ll take a regular beer.” He got the idea she was more trying to flirt than to fight and while he could appreciate that fact, he kind of felt he was bing a bit.. disingenuous to her. “I drive the van- not a bus. It’s for training mostly. Somebody has got to get the gear from point A to B after all.” Rolling to avoid an arrow he stabbed at her, eying her bow. “Don’t worry about it. Just focus. If you can talk with your weapon while you fight you can talk to your fellow hunter. You need to be able to communicate in battle after all.” He smiled. “Such as tell you that while I like the whole beefcake thing-“ He held up his ring. “I don’t do the whole other woman deal.” HP: 51 DMG:

Okay a van was about ... 30 times lamer than a bus. But Chel didn't say that. Wouldn't be smart to insult the guy giving her test and all.
Chel was about ready to throw up her hands. This was the third time that someone had mistaken her casual flirting for legitimate interest. "Yo, keep it on your finger prince charming. I'm just bein' friendly." What did a woman have to do around here to just casually flirt in a friendly manner?
She nodded and fired a series of arrows, all of which hit their target. "Talkin' and movin' helps me think s'all. Not good at the whole calm and serene."

Dis laughed. Oh the pleasure of Marcus’s embarrassment. And the joy of his shame for being mistaken in the woman’s advances. Imaginary advances that is. Marcus was just glad she clairified because wow he was not used to it. Still, she did apparently think he looked good so there was that. Marcus would take what he could get. He needed the ego boosts. Badly needed them at that. “It’s all good. Hunters being hunters… well casual gets done.. a lot. I’m kind of one of the only married couples on island. Longest lasting couple as well.” Which did say a bit, given his own issues. "And if you have trouble focusing- force it. You have to work to adapt, and in some fights silence will be your greatest ally." Changing hands before he struck allowed him a feint- one that was sent towards her ribs with the hilt of the blade. "Okay ninja gaiden," Chel teased. "Didn't know I was sparrin' with the silent ninja master." She could do silence, really, she could, but it was just so much easier to talk. Things got done faster for her that way.
She hissed as his sword sliced through a part of her shield, and retaliated by using the opening to stab him in the gut. "Who's the pretty lady? Or dude. No judgments here, I like 'em all too."

“Most say I’m more pirate like than ninja.” He’s expression had begun to become more serious and hard, eyes narrowing as she struck him across his arm. She had basic skills, but was far off if she wanted to go toe to toe with some of the other vets, much less against the stronger horsemen that existed. But, the spar was far from over. “Cassandra- she’s in Mist, so dunno if you’ve run into her.” He actually should have been taking some time to work with her to get a few of the trainees signed up for therapy- with the way that the island was going, most, if not all of them needed it. From Ponies going nuts on them, to the fact that really, life was just unforgiving and whatnot, he should have been encouraging trainees to sign up. Pending the fight’s results, he’d see if maybe Chel would need it or not. HP: 32 DMG: 7

Chel could feel Marcus underestimating her, so she gave him something to really play with. A single arrow was charged, and then released on the moon hunter. The sparks flew and shocked her cheek as the arrow was sprung, but the pain she felt across her own FEAR shield was worth it.
"Well I hope Cass knows how to patch a fellow up," she taunted, watching with satisfaction as the arrow made its mark, wherever that was. "'Cause a suckah just got NERFED."

He could see she had a bit of skill- but he didn’t think she had much thought in how to use it. “Cass does know of to fix me up-“ He grunted shaking off the arrow’s charge. “-But you sorely underestimate your opponent.” Dis held up, a crackling charge of blue flashed before Marcus cut his hand on the blade, a few drops of blood running along the metal before fading. It was worth it, as usual. Holding said blade out, Marcus shook his head. “You’re nearly without a shield, and that last attack cost you. Dis says you also might lose the shield with one proper place attack or a bad defend.” He pulled back. “I’m still quite fine however- do you want to continue, or will you try to beat me still and risk the infirmary?” HP: 32 DMG: none

< Shield currently at 24 percent. >
If there was one thing Chel hated above all else, it was being patronized. She'd had it her whole goddamn life, being the failure child and all, and she wasn't about to take it here, from some Moon she'd barely met.
"Tell Dis he doesn't know s**t. Your weapon can't tell me what my shield's like- only Tensy gets to do that." She too pulled back, standing up somewhat taller. "I didn't ask for your advice on how to fight, and I definitely don't want it from your piece of s**t sword." Her brow was stern, feeling anger well up in her chest. "I'm angry dude." Well Chel was nothing if not very straightforward. "Don't ********' patronize me just 'cause you got a few moves."
< Please submit designation. >
Chel knocked her arrows and began firing them rapidly at Marcus, unaware (or perhaps, ignoring) any damage she might have been adding to her FEAR shield. To give up now would be to admit defeat. Cowardliness wasn't a trait Chel possessed. "We're finishing this."
