It probably would've been easier for him to switch back to his four-legged form as he traveled from Razes's forest back toward the coast. The Diabi hadn't really had much to say to him after the successful ritual. It mostly boiled down to, 'Take these pants, and beat it.' So, Levi had. Awkwardly. In his mind, he refused to change back until he'd gotten a good look at this magnificent new form. He couldn't look that peculiar, even though walking around on two legs made him feel strangely top heavy, and his wing muscles felt different which made flying challenging.

He fluttered over the trees nonetheless, taking it slow as he tried to acclimate to his large, feathered wings supporting his tall, slim frame. He'd have to master this before he returned to Eowyn, anyway... He'd hate to become tired right in the middle of the ocean... If walking and flying were hard, he could only imagine that swimming wouldn't be much easier.

The Ritual had already taken a lot out of him. As soon as water peeked into view over the horizon, Levi descended into the last swatch of trees. Just one more little stretch and he'd be there... Near the rippling waters that could reflect his face back at him...

Between her fear, her stamina, and the sheer size of the contident, Malta didn't often manage to wander to the shore of Soldul during her daytime excursions.

So it was a rare treat to hear the seabirds and feel the cool trade breezes and splash in the salty water.

She wasn't entirely there for fun, though - What she was actually doing was collecting shells. When ground up, they made great thickeners or carrier agents or drying agents for potions and powders. They were also handy whole for holding things, like little bowls and cups.

In all, Malta liked shells, and the seashore was the place to get them - lake Korafiel provided a lot of things, but not suitable shells. Also the seashore was much more enjoyable than the lake shore, and had fish that didn't try to kill her, which was always nice. And tasty.

She sniffed the sea air, purring happily at the rich, fishy smells.

There was one smell that didn't belong. It was unfamiliar, a diabi khehora whose power she could sense even now, though the smell itself was faint and feathery.

She looked around, warily. She was not scared of fellow Khehora in general, but a strange diabi might be from another tribe, and she knew that her mother's tribe often warred against rival bands. Malta... didn't like fighting, and didn't want to be involved, though she was happy to patch up the wounds after.

She could run and hide but, lately - along with suddenly needing to eat more than usual - she had gotten slightly bolder. Plus, there was always the hope that he was friend, not foe.

"Hello!" she called out, hopefully, "It's beautiful here, isn't it?"

Oblivion landed on the beach with a graceless 'thump', instantly falling to his hands and knees atop the shifting expanse. Sand felt... weird without a coating of downy feathers to shield his exposed flesh. Instantly, his nose crinkled, as he sat up with a mass of the gritty granules clinging to his palms. Gross! Why did two-leggers like the beach so much if the sand rubbed up on them like this? It was one thing when he could give his feathers a shake to remove the debris, but against his skin it was nothing if not persistent.

A voice had him turning his ruby orbs behind him and down along the treeline, where a green Khehora with smokey white wisps dancing along her forearms and back legs was just emerging from the trees. Levi's tail flicked against the sand as he stared at her. She didn't sound like a threat. Realistically, she hardly even looked like a threat, besides the fact that all Khehora came with natural weapons in tact. "Hello," he greeted on a low rumble. "It's-" Beautiful? Right! His face! He wanted to see it! Then it really could be beautiful.

He scrambled forward across the sand, briefly forgetting about the other Khehora so he could slosh through the shallows to peer down through the dark waters. It was murky, shadowed... Really all Levi could see was the dark outlines of his face... But there was another here... He swirled around to face her. "You there. Do you think I'm beautiful?"

Malta watched the khehorian - because that was what he was - thunk into her field of view and wade out into the sand and surf, staring at him as he stared at her.

She had seen khehorians before - there were three in her village - but she had never seen an Alikhora one before. He was so feathery and he looked so soft, like the Uruu she'd seen a long time ago.

She watched from her safe treeline vantage point, her bright blue eyes trying to figure out what he was doing. Was he bathing? Why would he do that to feathers?

He turned his attention to her, and she was taken aback by the almost careless intensity in his eyes. "Um." she began, uncertain. Beautiful? Did she think he was beautiful? She wasn't sure how to respond.

Was it a trick? Was he a khehorian from a rival tribe? Would he attack her if she gave the wrong answer? Or the right one?

She went for the safest and most honest route. "I think you look very nice..." she meeped, cringing a little as she, head lowered, looked at him nervously. Was that the right thing to say?

Very nice, hm? It didn't really sound like much of a compliment, to be perfectly honest... Oblivion reached up to touch his face with his clawed fingers, pulling them back to skate through feathered strands of hair. He cast a glance at the female Khehora out the corner of his ruby eyes. She must be the shy sort. Perhaps she was simply so awed that she couldn't articulate her true feelings. Levi was sure he was capable of doing that to a woman...

He sighed and flicked his fingers across his torso. He couldn't see his own face, sure, but what he gathered from his body, he had to look more than 'very nice.' He huffed and skimmed his tail over the top of the water as he turned to fully face her. "You've no need to feel intimidated." By his beauty, of course. "My name is Oblivion. And yours is...?"

Well, maybe she'd answered right. Or wrong. Either way, he wasn't attacking her.

"Malta." she offered. His comment didn't help - she was always intimidated. "I ... like your name." she said hesitantly, "Are you named for Soudana's realm?" she kind of liked the idea. Names that meant something were the best kind of names.

Levi's tail flicked in delight. He was used to being praised on his beauty and his abilities, but it wasn't very often that anyone pointed out he had such a wonderful name, as well. "My mother had a lot of respect for Twilight," Levi explained. "I'm actually named in his honor." He beamed, flashing Malta a mischievous grin. "Of course, that doesn't mean I won't surpass him!"

Levi smirked, putting his hands on his hips as he stared out over the water. His back legs were getting used to walking upright... He could only imagine that it'd be easier once he wasn't standing on sand. When something orange rippled against the very surface of the water, Levi beamed. "There," he said, pointing out to the splodge of color right before it disappeared. "Let me show you what I mean."

Hopefully.

He sucked in a breath, then kicked from the sand, zooming out to meet the orange splodge as it resurfaced. He vaguely remembered fishing with his mum. He didn't have the same magic she did, but... It should all work out just the same! Especially with these new powers! The magic formed around him, creating spears of darkness that lashed out into the water and impaled the flapping body of an erlkin. It beat against the magic as Levi drew it from the ocean and fluttered back to Malta with the orange beast still struggling to lift itself from the unrelenting darkness. Levi grinned. "Hungry?"

"Really?!" Malta said, impressed. "I've heard his stories! He was a great warrior of the Oblivionites!" she swished her tail excitedly. She loved those stories - the one thing she and her tribe agreed on. "A lot of the Orakovan in my tribe want to be like him too!" she tilted her head, feeling slightly braver, "So, uh, you are a warrior? Too?" She wasn't sure if that made him more or less scary. She understood warriors - she'd grown up around them. Their emotions - hidden as they were - were not difficult to read. But warriors could also hurt her badly, and she still didn't know if this was a member of a rival diabi tribe or not, who would want to kidnap her, sacrifice her, use her to make poisons... or... she didn't know. But what if he wasn't a warrior? A powerful khehorian who was not a warrior? That would be nice. Not possible, but nice.

She leaned forward curiously as he summoned his magic, gasping in awe as he caught the fish with his magic alone. "Wow!" she exclaimed, looking at him, impressed. She wished she could do that, but how? She could barely catch bouken.

Her stomach rumbled, betraying that she was, indeed, hungry. All the time. That was the problem. That was why she was so big. "Yes..." she said shyly, looking at the khehorian, asking a silent permission.

The Diabi landed neatly before the Ysali female, the fishy snack hovering in the air between them. He shouldn't be surprised that so many Soudul Khehora aspired to be like Twilight, but he felt a twitch of annoyance in the back of his mind all the same. Others that thought they could rival him... Ridiculous. Surely Levi was the only one that could hope to surpass someone so notoriously powerful. The tip of his tail twitched. "A warrior?" He repeated. With a flick of his fingers, he lowered the fish down onto the sand in front of Malta. "I'm... not sure what you mean," he admitted. Of course he battled creatures and defended his home. He even achieved this state almost solely for power and appeal, but he'd never really classified himself as a warrior.

Oh well. he shrugged. "I suppose I am. I have a family now, so I must be strong to defend and care for them. Go on and eat," he encouraged as the fish lay begging to be devoured. "I can catch more, so you can have all you want."

Malta, intitially, misunderstood, and was baffled. Did he not know what a warrior was? Her mind darted along strange and hopeful tangents. Had this khehora grown up in a place so peaceful that there was no need for warriors? Had he never known fighting? That sounded like paradise. That sounded nice. But no, she thought, it was more likely that warriors were just called something different, or were the same as hunters, or something. She was about to open her mouth to explain what a warrior was, just to be sure that he knew what she meant, when he made it clear he did. And that he sort of was.

Well, it had been a nice hope... she sighed inwardly: Someone weak like her would never be considered for such a powerful evolution.

She did as he said, and began to eat the fish, fairly happy about doing so – it was tasty and fresh. She swallowed her first (few) bites, and looked up at him gratefully and admiringly. ”Thank you!” she chirped. If he was feeding her, he was not likely to be hurting her.

”May I ask how you did that?” she asked, somewhat awkwardly. He – Oblivion – was still a stranger, and powerful, and it still made her nervous, but... ”You used your magic to catch the fish... does it have to be Diabi magic, Mister Oblivion?”

She'd like to catch fish herself, but if it had to be Diabi magic... well, then she could chalk up yet another thing that her cousins could do that she could not. ”Is there a way for a Ysali to fish?”

She seemed an okay sort, Oblivion thought as he shifted his weight, testing how it felt from foot-to-foot. 'Mister' made him sound a little old, and he couldn't possibly be that much older than the female. Certainly not old enough to merit 'mister.' But it seemed polite, so Oblivion let it slide. It helped, and piqued his interest in her that she was curious about his magic.

"I imagine there are ways for most anyone to fish," he retorted. "Even those non-magical two-leggers manage it, so surely you should be more than capable. Khehora are natural hunters," he went on amicably, "So you should be able to come up with a way, perhaps unlike how another Ysali would do it." That being said, he wasn't terribly familiar with poison magic. His mother was of Ysali lineage, but he'd never used the power himself, of course. But poisoning your food before eating it didn't... seem like a splendid idea.

"The plant aspect of your powers would do better than the poison aspect, I presume."

“Mm? Oh! Yes...” Poisoning the fish hadn't even been near the forefront of her mind, and it honestly seemed like a poor idea, since then only she would be able to eat it. “I'm, um, more of a healer than a manipulator...” she admitted, bouncing over to the edge. Normally, controlling plants to move was not something she did so much... however... there were roots at the water's edge, tantalizingly perfect to at least... give it a try. She concentrated, extending her magic into the roots. They were not happy roots, exposed as they were to air, and she felt sorry for the little things. But, though sluggish, they did respond, they did move and grow at her command and magic, though only as they would have grown normally. “um. So. Maybe I...” And there was a fish. It lingered lazily at the edge, beneath the roots, and shimmered a brilliantly in silver and red. It was so near the roots... what if she...

She knit the roots together, growing them out, out, out and around the fish, enclosing it in a mesh of plant material. “Oh!” she said, in delighted surprise. But wait, couldn't she bring it back? She didn't relish going in after it...

She concentrated again, pulling the trapped fish out of the water and, with a burst of slow effort, managed to get it to shore, where she could grab it.

The fish flopped and fought, and she put a claw over it. “Oh! I did it!” looking very surprised... and ridiculously pleased with herself.

Oblivion's deep crimson eyes narrowed skeptically, and his tail gave a curt lash to the side. She was a khehora. She could be more inclined to do one thing with her magic than any other, but the doubt that laced Malta's tone when she spoke of foliage manipulation struck him as deeply disappointing. What else did she do with her time that she didn't practice all aspects of the power she'd been granted? The feeling was further reinforced at the slow progression of her magic. An adult khehora granted the gift of nature and she seemed almost unwilling to make things grow?

Levi frowned. "When I was young, my mother sprouted whole fields of flowers, fronds, and foliage for my enjoyment. I assumed anyone would enjoy seeing such a thing. Yet you seem surprised at yourself for growing a few bankside tree roots." He gave another flick of his tail as he studied her quizzically. "What is it about your magic that makes you happy?"
