...Just to get to you.  Dhiren was not at his best. The fires had done their damage, but his parents were safe. Though now his heart ached to know if Shania was alright. Soot was smeared into his light colored coat, his lungs burned from the smoke, and yet he continued through the burned homelands. It would grow again over time, but how many families now dealt with heavy hearts, and much more loss than their home? It made his heart even more heavy, needing to find out if she was alright.
He had been stubborn when the flames erupted, playing the hero, but he felt it had to be done. He had assisted his parents in their escape and helped many others in theirs when they had become too weak. His hair had been singed at the edges, he smelled like he was burning, and he had a nice shiny spot near his hoof where he'd burned the fur right off of his ankle. His wings had been spared for the most part, some of the feathers blackened, but they were functional. Occasionally he would take to the skies to see more ground, which is what he was currently doing, his view of the destruction had first been shocking, to see how far it had spread. Now his only focus was for Shania.

 After her conversation with Ryujin, her mind was made up. Even if it angered her father, she was going to find Dhiren. She and her family had escaped from the fires unscathed and found safety at a nearby waterhole. There she had met a strange stallion who's views on the world seemed quite different than her own, but his insight led her to the decision to disobey her father's wishes of staying safe but instead she was going to find her mate, Dhiren. They had gotten separated when the fires broke out. Shania was devastated at having to leave him, for her father only had her best intentions in mind. He wanted to make sure she was safe, and has assured her that Dhiren would follow suit, only, Dhiren hadn't. As time went on, she became worried and couldn't stand not knowing if he was okay, she left the safety of the waterhole to find him.
She left Fancy and Carson in a tree near the water so as not to endanger them when she left. This was her decision and she didn't want anyone else to get hurt if something were to go wrong.
Her large wings carried her over the charred land. Her eyes scanned the ground for any signs of her love down below. What she saw was devastating. The land was blackened, not a bit of green to be seen for miles. Smoke eminated from hot spots that lingered, dotting the landscape with black pillars of smoke. The scene was so disheartening and horrific. She couldn't hold back the tears of grief at the loss that the land had suffered.

The wind felt good through his fur and against his hot skin, he took the moment to take his emerald eyes away from the ruined ground to peer about the skies, and just think about his current objective. He knew she had gotten away safely, His body hummed with knowing, however he needed to see her, to make sure not one hair was out of place.
When movement caught his emerald eyes, Dhiren looked to his left to notice a nondescript figure in the distance, he quickly re-routed his course, incase help was needed and flew in the direction of the fellow soquili. Slowly he started to notice certain things, the length of the hair that flowed behind the individual, then the colors. His heart skipped a beat and so did his wings, causing him to trip in the air. He put on a burst of speed he hadn't realized he'd had, his own wings cutting through the sky. "Shania?!" The wind almost stole his voice from him, but surely she would see him. His smile grew along with the relief flooding through his heart.

 A whisper on the wind tickled her ears. She thought she had heard her name....his voice....could it be? Her eyes frantically searched the ground, hoping to spot him. What if he was in danger and calling out to her? Should she land and search for him down below? That seemed like her best option in finding him. (She hadn't even considered the thought he might be flying...)
She began her descent, finding a safe place to land. As she did, her large wings stirred up the ashes and coals under her hooves. Just as her feet touched down, some of the coals that had stirred up landed on her long luxurious tail, and smoldered there. She took a few steps before the acrid smell of burnt hair filled her nostrils. Her tail had caught fire!

Dhiren watched, puzzled, as Shania flew down to the charred earth beneath them. Though as he remained puzzled he saw the hot embers swirl about and catching in her highly flammable tail. In the moments it took for him to reach her, the embers were eating away at her tail, smoke curled from her long tail as it began to smolder and catch. He landed a decent pace away, as to not stir it any further and trotted up to her quickly. "Hello darling!" Although he passed her and went straight to her tail where he used his front hooves to quickly stamp out the little flames that had started licking up her gorgeous tail.
When he was satisfied the flames would not reappear, he stepped back to asses the damage. It was a bit odd, the flames had removed a bit of hair, but it wasn't anything that couldn't be fixed. His own tail was worse for ware. He looked to Shania and gave her an apologetic smile. "I'm very sorry I couldn't save more of your tail." His eyes darted over her face, quickly taking in that nothing more was amiss, he crossed the short distance and pressed his cheek to hers. "I've been so worried."

Her immediate instinct was to run, but what would that solve? She knew the fire would not just leave her alone. She could stomp it out but could possibly burn herself or make it worse. Just as she was about to attempt it, a shadow cast over her and landed nearby. Her eyes darted to the arrival and not only did her heart skip a beat, her tear strewn face lit up with a brilliant smile. She was so happy to see him, she forgot all about her tail. "Dhiren!" she exclaimed, all her fear and anguish gone in that one breath. She watched as he raced over to her and only when he started stomping out the fire in her tail did she remember it was there.
Tears of happiness flooded her eyes as she watched this small act of love he expressed in saving her tail from the fire. "Thank you," she whispered sheepishly as he moved to nuzzle against her. "I was so worried about you. I left under my father's command, but I had to return. To find you. Are you okay, love?" All her emotions poured out at once. She never thought she could feel so much in a single moment. Relief. Love. Gratitude. Guilt. Happiness. It was almost too much.

Dhiren side and nuzzled into her mane before pulling back and smiling widely. "Right now I am so wonderfully happy, there is no way I could not be alright." His eyes turned to concern though, eying her tail once more. "Are you hurt? Burned anywhere else?" From what he could see there was nothing, but he wanted to make sure. He saw her tears and nuzzled her cheek. "No tears, love. I'm whole and here with you now."
"I was on my way to you, and here you are." He looked about curiously, before returning his attention to her. "Where are Fancy and Carson?" Being honest with himself, he missed the little trouble makers as well and it was rare for her to not have them with her, if not impossible.

Through her tears, she smiled. "I'm fine, love. My tail will grow and be good as new, so no worries there." She looked him over, and once she was happy that he wasn't hurt, she replied. "I couldn't bear to lose you, Dhiren. This has been the most heart-wrenching day of my life. I've been terrorized from the fires and the thoughts that I might not find you." She leaned into him and just stood there, her ear against his neck, just listening to his heartbeat.
After a moment or two of silence and them just standing there, she remembered his question. "Oh! Fancy. Carson. They..." she paused, "I left them at the waterhole." Concern filled her features again. "It was for the best. I couldn't bring them back here not knowing what to expect. We must return and find them."

Dhiren nodded in agreement. "I imagine your father would also be worried for your safety." He nuzzled her once more, unable to really keep himself from doing so. He was glad to have her back with him, knowing she was safe and well.
"Please, my love, do lead the way. I fear I haven't the faintest idea where this watering hole is located." He was eager to return her to the spot and reunite her with her father, but also desperate for the water it promised. His throat burned from the ashes, smoke, and hot air, needed the liquid to wash away the sore dryness.

"Thank you love," she said and moved away so she could take off. "I'm sure you would like some water after being here in this smoke for so long. It's not too far." She looked around for a safe place to take off from. "Maybe we should move from here so as not to stir up the coals again. I don't want to catch fire again." She saw a small patch of dirt and gravel nearby that might have been a road. "There," she pointed with her wing. That looks safe enough." She carefully made her way over and opened her wings wide. "I'll meet you in the air," she called to him.Insane Butterfly Do you want to continue this at the waterhole or call this a nice stopping point after you tag?
