xxxxxCaptain Jack Mallory has been the Captain of Division Three for about 300 years. She has lost yet another Lieutenant. The latest one didn’t take acceptable reinforcements to battle the horde of Hollows she was assigned to deal with in Rukongai. The one before that didn’t get his wounds properly tended to so he died of infection. Captain’s Mallory’s experience with Lieutenants is not good. She doesn’t try to kill off her Lieutenants. However she keeps being assigned idiots.

xxxxxCaptain Mallory is completely fine without a Lieutenant but, Head-Captain Niwa has vetoed that decision. Someone needs to be in place to try and contain most of Jack’s promiscuity. So Captain Mallory has decreed that she will test any and all members of Division Three who want the Lieutenant’s spot. She has even said that people from other Divisions are welcome to compete as long as they hold with Division Three’s Long-Range Weapons assignment.

xxxxxThere’s just one problem. Captain Jack Mallory is missing. She’s not in her Office. She’s not even on the Division Three grounds. She’s not in any of the bars in the Seireitei. People have checked her favorite bars in the Rukongai. She not there either. As far as anyone can tell she’s not getting some “action”.

xxxxxThis is not like Captain Mallory at all. Could she be in trouble? Is this part of the test? The answer to the first question is no. The answer to the second question is yes and, 14 people have already failed.

xxxxxThere is one boy that the Archer of Death has high hopes for. Her Seventh Seat, Takashi Sayomi, has incredible potential. He has not responded to his Captain’s customary flirtations once. However he doesn’t push her to arm’s length. However Jack Malloy has already vowed to be fair. Whoever wins, wins. Even though her money is on the young Seventh Seat he will have to prove that he is not an idiot. Will he pass? Or are Captain Mallory’s hopes unfounded.

1. This is a character development between Jack Mallory and Takashi Sayomi. You are free to read/watch but no posting.
2. This will morph into combat at some point. No Ban Kai and no Kidō over 69. It would be bad if Jack killed her Lieutenant before the story started.

Takashi Sayomi sauntered on down the some random trail somewhere in the Rukongai forest, an odachi in one hand, and a piece of paper with the area's map printed in the other. He muttered to himself vehemently, every now and again glancing down at the map to assure himself that he was heading the right direction. As you can see, today was the day where his own abilities and determination is being tested. Many warriors participated the hunt to earn the title Third Division Lieutenant, but sadly most of them ended up with an arrow to the knee. How did he know? Well, he had his resources. Unlike Takashi, with his hands grasped with the tools he needed to obtain such position, everything was going to be fine. His mind would scatter, implementing many solutions, ideas, or strategy to survive this pitiful search. One may think that it's just a mere scavenger hunt, but truly it's a survival game. Screams and cries was heard as he continued to walk. To bad for them; there stupid.


"Man, I'm getting too old. I hope I find that damn clearing soon. My back hurts."Takashi grumbled, his sharp, hazel green eyes gazing at the blue sky as it got brighter and brighter like time passing quickly. Each step he took, sun rays shined above him providing the warmth of a new beginning day, a new start of life. For the past years, Takashi had fought and worked in order to survive this harsh world. After his mother's death, he was nothing but an ant, but now everything going to change once he claims his title.

His reason for coming here was out of motivation in hopes of a new journey. He figured becoming Lieutenant would broaden his goal in life and more beyond. Despite all the hardships, it was worth it in the end. Time flew and he would notice his destination from afar. He was almost there. He slowly approached the clearing, but stop, when he came across a familiar face laying on the ground in pain. He took a couple steps back, providing a save boundary between him and that spot ahead of him. He analyzed the scene, picking up a couple clues. One, the direction of the arrow and two, the time it occurred. If that scream from early was from her and from indication of the shadows, Takashi could only conclude that this was just recent.

Takashi stood there for a moment in front of the scene and looked back, only to be bewildered by images of his group of past friends and families cheering him on to go forth with might. "Can't give up now, can't I..?"A sudden morning breeze blew by him as it brushed through his silky brown hair interrupting his imagination. For a moment there he felt like all his stress went away along with the dust of wind. He let out a breath and continued walking down the path with caution, sword now within his grip. With courage and determination on his side, nothing will stand in his way.

His footing was soft like the falling leaves, ears would twitch to every slight movement as if he was a canine and green eyes slowly scanning the whole place for hidden traps. Fear was in the boy however, his courage was still intact. Wherever the Captain was, his burning flames will not vanish to a girl like her. Takashi paced himself, picking up with speed as he hastily made his way to the clearing. "Nari, get ready. I feel a faint presence spying on me. Do you feel it as well?" Eyes filled with disdain fluttered to his blade, awaiting for assurance.

"Her presence is definitely here somewhere." Narihibiku reassured Takashi's assumptions to be correct. So far everything seems to go very smoothly, but with that flirty girl hiding around, Takashi knew he had to be prepared for the worst. This test held much depth then just arriving to the clearing from which he thought initially. He balled up the map and threw it away, no longer needing it usefulness. The first step was accomplished and now the fun was about to begin where the fox hunts the scared little bunny.

Takashi unsheathe his gleaming blade and started slashing his way through the tall grass and bushes, searching for her. He eventually runs out of stamina and paused, catching a breath before he resumed on. The area was like an enigma. Abrutly, hearing the faintest sound of a fling, he turned back noticing an arrow made of ice flying this way to his direction. In pursuit to dodge it, he slid to the side, but it was already to late when he did. If only he was more aware around his surroundings this wouldn't had occurred. He groaned in pain as it punctured deeply into his biceps. "Ahhhh! Jesus!" A sudden yell echoed through the forest. It must had been the Captain's, but he ignored it like he usually does. He only caught onto three words in the end of her remark, "Cheer me up?" He fled away from the area for safety. Once Takashi thought it was safe, he hid behind a tree, laying his back against it, then slouching to get himself comfortable before he start a quick medical procedure.

He slip a hand into a rubber glove and gripped onto the shard of ice that was pierce into his dominant arm. He let out a breath of distress as he quickly pulled it out. A scream escaped the man's mouth and birds nearby would fly away in fear of their life after hearing such tormented sound of a beast. With his right arm injured, he couldn't properly wield a sword correctly. Every second blood would gush out of his hole, streaming down on his attire. Takashi had to cover the wound soon before it got infected. He ripped off his headband off of his head and tightly wrapped up the wound. He then applied pressure to it to prevent further bleeding. If only he brought his thread and needle, he could of gotten himself some stitches.

Takashi couldn't move any longer. His whole arm was numb and shivering from the stinging pain. He laid there for quite awhile. For now having to be in such a comfortably position, He wanted to take a quick nap, but time the clock ticking, he couldn't afford to waste time. Instead, he took a break.

Takashi's eyes was fatigue and heavy. He was sleepless in desperation. His mind was unease; he couldn't think straight at all. The stinging pain disturbed his focus. It hadn't healed entirely yet. "What time is it?" To find out, Takashi grabbed a dead twig off from the ground and lightly stabbed it into the ground, stranding straight. He analyzed the shadow as it pointed to the upper right. It's been around five minutes.

Takashi stomached growled ferociously and so, he open his small sack of berries, which he picked at home, consuming it whole within quick seconds. That should satisfy his nutrients and hunger for a little awhile. He couldn't afford to spend a night here. He had to end this now.

Takashi went back to place where he was attacked by an unexpected arrow for he realized she was there, up there above him and the contestants as if she was a god. He stood there, green eyes traveling up meeting the hers. He saw her clear and perfect. She was hanging on the branch like a stupid monkey. He roared, his voice mighty and loud like a lion. "Jack! Come down here and show yourself you slut! You can't hide from me any longer." Following that comment, Takashi threw his blade up, "Roar Narihibiku Kaminari, Roar!" His blade listened like commanded as it flashes brightly, electricity bursting out in all direction crashing everywhere with a booming explosion of thunder. The steel length widened and broadened as well as it's thickness until it eventually transform into a zanbatsu. The massive sword slowly flowed back to his hand in grasp. "Fight me or I'm going to strip that title of yours and make it my own."

Takashi stood his grounds, humbling accepting the criticism given to him. For all her peculiarities, he finds her personality quite endearing at the very least. Even so, without achieving a Ban Kai, that didn't prove true strength. Strength comes from one's will, a fuel that improves us all. Due to the Captains's status, her arrogance must be getting the best of her, after all there is a captain with no Ban Kai, but pure strength.

The Captain's voice held much intensity, but that didn't frighten him at all. He repaid the ridicule, "If the thrill in hunting were in a hunt, or even in marksmanship, a sword would do just as well. Lips stretching what appeared to be a sly smirk, "Instead of 'Archer of Death,' call me 'Death of Archers' Despite my lacking skills in archery, there is always a flaw or an imperfection in all things."

The fact that Jack instruct him to use his mastermind brain is so utterly absurd. Encountering the petite woman was the first step towards a goal that no other could predict not foresee, even for a sharp girl like Jack. During his hunt here for the pass few hours, clues along with basic information, drew a picture to success. No, it wasn't all about combat like she recalled, but more. The extent of this test is made in three parts. One, survival, two, combat, and lastly, complex problem solving. These were the keys to win.

The words 'Cheer me up'echoed in his mind. Time was ticking and the thought of failing kept being struck across his mind. Jack is up there, so fighting his own way will not work. Since Jack specializes in long-range combat, he had to bring the battle to her. She's defenseless against melee weapons like his own though. If he could only get to her location fast enough for a surprise attack strong enough for a win, that might end the whole test. Maybe smoke bomb could do a trick... A smirk was formed on his lips. He could depict the outcome of it.

Narihibiku Kiminari decided to add a little a spice to his plan, "Once the smoke deludes the area, that is your only chance to unleash Kaminari gitai. There is no way to evade an attack when you control nature in your grasp, unless she's quick witted enough to dodge it. It all comes down to speed. But there's another option. Lure her in. She's completely vulnerable once you get close to her."

Takashi shook his head and took his advice. He was grateful for it. The more options the better. A finger was placed on his chin, pondering. Although how perfect the plan thought out to be, it's all about the evaluation. Unexpected things can happen.

The sharp reckoning stare pointed at Takashi made him feel uncomfortable. His thoughts were disturbed. He was plagued by the insecurity that given to him. Jack would look down at him in shame. At that moment, anger boiled in him like a forge as if he was about to explode. Takashi return the same gaze as it soon became an icy glare of his own, "I won't fail because I already know how to win." He took a deep breath, awaiting the right moment to attack.

Her chatter continued on again. It was annoying. He flared his noise disrespectfully as he mouth begin to run off, "You want honesty? I want to be Lieutenant. I don't even know how strong I am until I am forced to bring that hidden strength forward, which is why your here. In times of tragedy, of war, of necessity, people do amazing things. I'm not very tactical like others say. The human capacity for survival and renewal is fascinating. If you want to be cheered up, fight me here and now. I'll show you my strength and in return for yours. I will try to give you the best fight you haven't had in awhile. That's one thing I could promise you." With that being said, hopefully the Captain would accept his challenge against him for there was a trap laying for her to come.

Takashi was pleased to hear that he had passed all of parts of the test and there was one more part that was still remaining. The last component of the test was to cheer up the captain herself, but how? She explained it to vaguely. As you can already tell, Takashi was a blunt person, whose motivation is fueled by revenge and determination. He doesn't have a sense of humor. His brain was vacant, out of ideas. Why did he had to come across this part? He sheathe his gleaming blade, stubbornly looking away with a groan of irritation. He rolled his eyes at her lecture, but took it as granted. He was at stake. One mistake and he will fail it all.

Maybe he could lie to her or put up a scene, acting all jolly similar to her, but then again, Jack scorn liars. There were a few facts Takashi knows about her. She hates being called as 'Jackie', she dislike liars, she's a sex addict, and she's incapable of love. There wasn't much to approve of or appreciate. Takashi thought long and hard, figuring out the misconceptions of how she was viewed, going in depth within the heart to truly find out what really lied upon. Well, there were a couple things that he liked about her. Nevertheless, he didn't want to admit it since since it would ruin his pride as a man. Initially, he wanted to take over her position as Captain. He never her due to her capricious traits, in his opinion not captain like. Jack was something he hate to love or accept.

Takashi was eager to become Lieutenant, and so he would expose bits of his feelings for the first time, " Honestly, I don't think I can cheer you up. You already know what type of person I am. However, one thing I do know is that my determination is real. I constantly dream of becoming a Lieutenant. I'll somehow try my best to make you happy." Takashi begin to open up, " To start it off, I'm jealous of how you naturally you smile. It's nice and it's something I've been seeking for in the past. Unlike me, you have friends that support you to the fullest despite of your sex addiction." He continued to distinguish, "You may think I'm just talking BS, but everything I said has been true. I feel uncomfortable saying it because I find it a bit embarrassing, but since it's for the sake of my test, then of course I'll go that far. To me, I usually cheer someone by offering a cup of tea." He quickly covered his widening grin with a hand as a giggle escape his lips, "Thanks to you, I was able to realize what I had I do. In life sometimes you gotta roll the dice, right? You opened my eyes, revealing the whole picture of the test. It's pretty funny how a smart guy like me needs some aid at times."

Each word he spoke, Takashi would take several glances over to the Captain to see whether or not she had a change of heart. Suddenly, his face distorted a look of shock and confusion when he noticed her bow aimed directly at him. Brows would pinched in response as she referred to him as a nuisance. He figured he had much more to say.

"Have I ever mention how beautiful you look when you smile? I got to say that your the only woman I know who still smiles when things aren't going too well, taking a positive outlook on life and trying to make the most of it. Your spirit isnt damped by little things in life, your truly free-spirited. "At this point, Takashi hesitantly decided to offer his kindness, his lips stretching, revealing his pristine, trademark smile. He spoke his voice sweet as his smile, "Let us always meet each other with smile, for the smile is the beginning of a new special friendship between you and me. Not just as comrades, but more."

Following the response he given to her, Takashi's cheeks would slightly burn, causing his pigment to turned red. He turned his head away, avoiding to get his innocence caught. This might be the final time ever showing affection. In a matter of seconds the color would slowly vanish.

This Captain was asking to much of Takashi. He picked up on her grin, which later burst out into laughter. It appeared she caught a fast glimpse of his innocence. Jesus. From his display only it seemed brought up the urge for Jack to dig into his feelings. Know more about him. Hazel brown eyes held much secret; he wasn't going to spill all of it out at once. His gazed shifted to her face and follow through when she tossed an apple to him. He kindly accepted her gift and took a bite of it. This might ease his consumed mind. There was so many inquisitions to reply.

Takashi's face did not show a sudden sign of emotion as she looked over at him, refusing to smile by force. A sigh escaped his lips as his head hung for a moment taking another bite out of the apple, "What drives me? Well, a special person whom died quite awhile ago is my fuel. I joined the Gotei thirteen because I live by a philosophy that it is my duty to protect and guide the weak. I wanted to join Division three because I believe I will be an valuable asset to the group. Plus, a division that specializes in long range is just my type, since most of my abilities require range. Like I said before, I constantly dream of becoming a Lieutenant. " his voice low in tone as it vaguely carried bits of meaning.

Jaws was locked in, hearing how he would describe Jack as a captain and also as a person. Again, there wasn't much to say. His brows was pinched together, irritated by the fact that he had to repeat himself again that was spoken earlier. He reassured, "I respect you as a captain. I will certainly obey your commands. Though if you do tend to act foolish, I will take dominance. I see you as a free-spirited person as well as a sex addict. You can put my faith in me during in battles. I will act as your shield and in return I expect the same from you. I will provide you my courage and strength until I have fulfill my duty."

His thoughts were broken by a sudden breeze as Jack's silky caramel hair being the first thing that caught her attention as it dancing in the same wind his own hair had been caught up in. He felt a faint presence nearby. It was probably someone who seemed such position as well. Fear ran down his spine. He was running out of time.

He finally answered the last question, " If Head-Captain Niea requires you to have a Lieutenant to play as your chaperone, I will gladly take that role. As you can see, I have the power to rebel and resist against you no matter what you plan on doing. You won't fool me and hopefully I won't fall in love with you."

Abruptly from such intensity, the wound on his right arm would bleed as it streamed down his arm. The headband was soaked red and loose. It wasn't tight enough to contain it. The pain became noticeable and it was difficult to ignore it. A hand was place on his biceps, adding much force and pressure. Blood still continue to drip.

Takashi instantly grabbed the blade by the handle, taking a step forward, unsheathing it to deflect the incoming arrows within a slash. However due to his dominant arm, it responded to slow to counter, the arrow once again pierce him. His arm was in no condition wield a massive zanbato. His injured arm would shiver in pain; it sting like hell. More blood continued to stream down his arm. If only he was more aware, he wouldn't get caught off guard. He knew an attack was coming soon. He switched grips with his off-hand and pointed it directly at Captain Jack.

Narihibiku Kaminari later proclaim, "Takashi, if you continue to get hurt, surely you will fail this test. Use your speed to dodge her arrows. Your right arm can't burden any more injuries. Hold on Takahi."

Takashi nodded, taking its advice. Two shards of ice came flying over to him. He took a deep breath, steadying his sword before he raised it up to the sky, hacking it straight down to the ground as it slice the shard in pieces. Although he managed to avoid the sharp reckoning, the consequence of the impact costed his severe wounds to pay a price. Both deep holes spurt out blood. It appeared his left hand can't endure the power without the other.

In shock, Narihibiku Kaminari desperately nagged, "Takashi...Reserve your power for a hard blow. Listen to me. She may have the advantage but there's one thing she lacks. She can't block me with that puny bow. C'mon!"

Takashi acknowledge, "Your right, but within that blow, I might get knocked out from the force. Sometimes you got to roll the dice, huh? I guess I have to unleash my rage."

At that point, Takashi raised up his sword with both hands, focusing all energy in it as he said three words that might mark a turning point, "Kaminari gitai!" Bolts of lighting suddenly begin crashing down from the blue sky in a spiral motion until it eventually hit Takashi, making a loud boom of thunder. The flash blinded any nearby comrades at a diameter of 3 meters. The light would slowly fade away, revealing anyone who notice Takashi with his electrical covered body that gleamed so bright. He pointed his blade that petite woman, his eyes glistening with determination and courage. Within a blink of an eye, but faster, Takashi flashed up to a level where he can see Jack. He landed on the branch across from her, offering a smirk, "Its about time I finally got up here. I almost forgot what you look like."

With that being said, Takashi rushed to the girl with full speed. But right as he was about to slam his blade into her small figure, he hesitated as he spun around her landing his foot work on the same branch she was standing on. He didn't had the guts to cut her down. Blood gushed out again from the velocity he was going at. His green eyes became a bit droopy. Everything started to look blurry. He had to keep himself together.

Takashi watched Jack fled away, jumping to another branch higher across him. With that smirk of hers, he couldn't but smile as well. She was right. He would of cut her down in seconds if wasn't for her beauty and personality. He shook his head in response, acting oblivious to why he acted that way. He dropped his gaze over to the woman below who appeared to be pinned to the tree. He lend a ear and laughed. The fact that she still can't escaped from those containment is just utterly sad. Her arrogance must got the best of her: it reminded much of how he was before then. Captain Jack's appearance may look weak, but never underestimate for there is always a mystery in one within, awaiting to be unleashed.

After that rude comment that the girl below made, Jack suddenly collapsed to her knee. Takashi noticed the paralyzed like stance that crept over Jack's body. She knelt there like a block, consumed by something. When his green eyes did flash up to look at her face, those emotions had been replaced with a forced smile. One worn by many and their true meaning never realized. Takashi, himself having worn a smile similar many times in his life. Her pale face got swept up with a mix of emotions. Takashi had a hard time telling what she was feeling or even thinking but what was clear were two emotions; agony and pain. His gaze never left her depressed face.

Instinctively, Takashi rushed over to Jack for her aid. He wasn't aware that now was his chance to attack. The thought of helping her filled his vacant mind. He knelt beside her, placing a hand on her shoulder, providing her his support and faith. He then lifted her up and carried her as if she was a princess. She was very light. Their faces was leveled, and very close to each other. She had a nice scent and it arouse him a bit, but ignored it.
