Strange things live in darkness. Eyeless fish, blind salamanders, bats that saw with their ears, centipedes that dangled like jungle vines. Strange things stalked the night. Lemurs with long fingers and enormous eyes, birds that turned their heads 'round and 'round and 'round, those creatures that faked the dead. And many a star found those that lingered in darkness or in those realms that they associated with the dark to be just as strange, wild, and frightening as those creatures that truly did. It was something Duranta had encountered after leaving the safety of the settlement where she and her brother had been raised. Other stars saw the skull on her face and the bones on her legs and automatically assumed she was a minion of "evil."
What exactly "evil" was, they never explained. Oh, Duranta knew what evil was--it was a lack of ethics, it was a lack of morality, it was doing hurtful things. But how did that have anything to do with the strange markings with which the algiedi mare had been born? The people who'd raised her had called hers and her brother's markings the sign of divine benediction. It was a symbol that she had lived a magnificent life before, and that it was only right to continue doing well by the gods that had given her so kind and pleasant a start in life. And then some stars called it..."evil"?
So Duranta had resolved to seek out those stars that others called evil, to learn why they said that. In that mind, she sought out the brown solara she'd heard of in local legends from passers-by. Who was he? And were his glowing red eyes such a reason to fear him? Perhaps she would find a friend here. So she wandered out where they said he could be found, and searched for signs of his presence.

Evil was what he'd been called since he'd been born. The unlucky 13th foal of a witch born deformed and strange. Markings that glowed ominously depicting the devil that was supposedly his genetic father. He even had an extra pair of long curved horns and large bat like wings. Ronove had been cast from his home by the fearful residence of the herd. Thinking back on it Ronove could only laugh they were right to be afraid. They thought he was a devil he would become their fears. He was a creature born in the darkness for the darkness. A Boogeyman of sorts, he enjoyed toying with many of the innocent stars that lived around this area.
Ronove only ever usually toyed with those who were foolish enough to stray into the dark. he became the creature to haunt their nightmares. Even the bravest he'd watched them flee in terror. his dark brown coat make the illusion so much better at night when his coat was aglow. It had become almost an art to him. Ronove had cultivated a love of art, terror was one. During the night sometimes when it was slow Ronove would often wander in search of colorful berries or burn twigs in the night to amuse his other artistic love.
Tonight as he looked for a soul to terrify found very few. They had begun to refuse to venture out at night. So Ronove found himself rather bored and switched to looking for things to burn. The fires to create artistic materials also warded off unwelcome visitors while he stayed in a certain area.
Ronove's gleaming eyes caught a glimpse of something orange even in this darkness. Now who was here? the stallion was curious as he began to move silently through the woods he'd become accustomed to. Geyser Eelborn ((It's Messy I apologize))

Here the land took on that certain aspect that will always be known as "lair-ish." At least, it would always be known by that word to Duranta--it was one of her friend Sbande's favorite made-up words, borrowed from her own mother. They used it to refer to any place that was dimly-lit and marked by...personal inclinations. A place was lair-ish if you could see another star's hobbies just by what their living space was filled with.
For example, Duranta could see here that whoever lived here was fond of fire. She'd come across a burnt-out fire, several of them in fact, on her walk. From the smell of them, they were recent--perhaps they had been burning last night. For them to be out already, she guessed that they had been set by another star. She smiled. Perhaps that wasn't so unusual, right? Solara were supposed to be able to breathe fire, though personally she'd never met a Solara. Still...
It was as she nosed at the ashes that Duranta caught another scent on the air--the scent of another star. A stallion--the one whose scent permeated this place. She looked around, but could not see any star nearby, and yet...and yet, his scent was strong, as if he were close.
What was that? She peered at the darkness until she could see a red glow. It was almost as if she could reach out and touch it--but that was ridiculous.
For one wild moment, Duranta was afraid. She hated being afraid. Being afraid was...wrong. What was there to be afraid of? All things die. To deny this, to be afraid, was against everything she'd been taught. It was almost a sin, and a priestess could not commit a sin. Besides, to be afraid of a stranger was counter to her entire purpose here...
"Hello," she said softly in the direction of the red glow. "Good evening." She felt silly at that last phrase--she'd already greeted him, why did she need to say it again?! In fact, she was feeling entirely silly right now. Had she made the right decision coming out here...?

So it was a mare, with skeletal markings and normal algedi horns, she was quite a pretty thing however; The mare was terrified, or at least afraid, Ronove could sense it, he'd always been able to sense fear. It was a skill of his. He moved quietly around her the red glow trailing behind. Much to his surprise she spoke a greeting. Well that was a pleasant change, this one seemed to have come courage. usually he'd get the odd stallion that would try to end him. Because he was an evil creature. Ronove had yet to see another solara. Algedi he'd seen lots of just like this mare. the herd he'd been cast from was mostly only algedi and some starborn.
Because if his nature however, Ronove deemed she ought to at least see him. though it could be a mistake "Good evening Madam." Ronove emerged from the darkness and gave her a refined bow. "What brings you to my neck of the woods?"
Despite his terrifying appearance Ronove was a gentleman. A demon or devil could still be a gentleman after all.

A stallion came out of the woods that fit the descriptions she'd had of Solara. He had a long, serpentine tail and bat wings. He cut a most intimidating appearance--especially with those long horns--and yet, when he spoke, his words were polite, measured. He didn't leap after her or try to tear her apart with his fangs or gore her with his horns. He seemed nice enough, in spite of his frightening appearance. Duranta relaxed. Sure, she could still be in danger, but more and more she was thinking that she might not be in anywhere near as much danger as she had feared.
Duranta smiled at the strange stallion. By his description, he was definitely the stallion she had been seeking out. The object of her quest, then had been found! "Good evening, sir. I apologize for trespassing onto your land, but I came up here in the hopes of meeting you." She bowed her head politely. "My name is Duranta. I heard that there was a stallion living here that some of the local people were afraid of, and I thought I would go up here to meet you so that I could judge for myself, rather than relying on the rumors." She wondered if maybe she should have been more circumspect, but honesty was the best policy, in her experience. If there was a problem...then there was a problem, and a lesson learned. "What's your name? And if it isn't impolite to ask, or a sensitive subject, why are people afraid of you?"

The mare didn't seem taken back by his rather fearsome appearance in contrast she actually relaxed a bit. How refreshing. Normally it would be very much the opposite. Despite his gentlemanly demeanor they would often run. but instead he was greeted with a smile. His wings folded at his sides he listened politely to her words. he wasn't surprised many had come to see him and had been sent screaming back down. he wasn't surprised they had called for someone to remove him.
What a curious mare though, she didn't judge him poorly until she'd met him"Well met Miss Duranta, I am the demon of these woods Ronove." the gallant demon gave the lady another bow. The locals feared him for his terrifying appearance but he didn't mind, it gave him time to himself.
"Are you here to drive me away, Miss Duranta?" he asked her politely

He seemed much more polite than Duranta had been led to believe. She'd heard about his horrifying appearance, and about his fondness for fire, but no one had mentioned that he was a gentleman. Perhaps other people were too busy being afraid of him to notice. That seemed like a likely explanation--many people judged on appearance before they got to know another person. She knew how that felt, at least a little since leaving the city. She was in unfamiliar territory now, and the Stars around here did not know the Grave Path very well.
She smiled at him. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Ronove, well-met indeed." She wasn't sure how to respond to the bow--how did a mare respond to that sort of thing? She ducked her head for lack of any more appropriate gesture to make. She might as well make some effort, after all. He was being so beautifully polite to her, and she wanted to return the favor.
She shook her head at his question. The very idea! Chasing a Star from his home when he'd done no harm to anyone other than scare them! At least, she didn't think he'd done any harm...the rumors she'd heard all sounded like urban legends, and they changed from telling to telling. Probably not honest, then. "No, I am not here to drive you out of your home, Mr. Ronove. I would not do that unless I had a very good reason to, and I surely do not, sir." She smiled again. "Like I said, I came up here to get to know you, that is all. My intentions are entirely friendly, I assure you."
