Mikael hadn't felt right all day. He really hadn't, everything had irritated him a lot more than usual and he was feeling downright mean. More than usual it was seeming like a good idea that he get up off his bum and do something about the things that had been bothering him.

hunt.>

Normally he wouldn't hurt a fly, normally the idea of even summoning his weapon seemed like a downright awful one. But not today.

Today he had waited all morning, patiently lurking out of sight, waiting for his prey, waiting without moving a single muscle, nursing his rifle and waiting for the one he sought to pass by his vantage point. He would have to leave the dormitories to go to the cafeteria and when he did the boy would be ready to exact his vengeance.

He didn't know how long it had been, how long he'd waited there, hardly breathing before there was a movement of white and blonde outside the dorms.

the wolf snarled in his thoughts.

He tensed his arm, finger on the trigger, waiting, waiting.

And fired.

Lawrence, on the other hand, felt absolutely normal. His concept of revenge was tied very much to symmetry and reason. He would enjoy casting Cael into the snowfields weaponless or removing his hand but not for malicious reasons, simply for the sake of balancing things out the way he might balance out a scale. It was tied somehow to his desire to align objects, to repeat and to mimic he was sure, but all of those things were very much part of who he was.

He would get to leave the island, that at least was something that he was looking forward to insofar as he could look forward to anything. Music was something he craved, a need that went far and above his need for food. But still, he had to eat a small amount each day in order to stop his body systems from shutting down, to sate the hunger enough he did not die.

Looking towards the cafeteria, his thoughts were elsewhere when the bullet hit, when he was nailed right in the head by a bullet made of pure energy. It knocked him clear off his feet and he lay there for a second while his thoughts caught up before he crouched ferally, looking in the direction where the fire seemed to have come from.

Butch snarled, rasping through his slit throat.

Mikael was not as well hidden as he thought he was and as Lawrence broke into a run - startlingly fast given his usual relaxed and meandering pace - the boy did not have time to even get up before the other man was upon him. And the moment he was he summoned his gauntlets, everything becoming that much more urgent.

He struggled. Because that was all he could do, the sharp talons cutting into his fear shield.

The boy was not strong and he was not a short range fighter. All he could do was try to weild the gun like a staff, to hold the sharp claws at bay and to hope the blades might deter Lawrence who was calmly and methodologically dismantling his defenses.

"Stop!" he cried. "Stop stop. HELP."

It was satisfying to see the way the boy immediately regretted his bravado, the way he backpedaled when his father's attention was turned on him. Every time he tried to wriggle free, he tugged him back, because if there was one thing Butch excelled at it was this.

But he knew he couldn't kill the boy, not here and now, it would be most pointless and would get him killed. Death would be rather inconvenient.

He just wanted to stop him, to break that streak of rebellion the way he had so many times before.

His fight was waning, even with the motivation of revenge, he was afraid. Lawrence was too close, much too close, he couldn't deal with it. This wasn't what he'd wanted and now he was afraid it wouldn't stop.

He struggled only a little bit further before he stopped, giving up, going still and limp.

the weapon roared.

But he was too afraid of what he'd make the other man do.

"I give up far. Jag ger upp!"

Butch was repeating himself over and over in his head as Lawrence finally pinned the boy, feeling all the fight ebb away. It would be so easy to go on to kill him, to end the abuse of his bloodline, to teach this creature that it couldn't wear his face and walk away.

But he did not, because there were plans, there were reasons to stay alive for the time being.

He replied in Swedish to the boy. "Of course you give up." he said. "Of course you do. You are your mother's son." And the fear in Mikael's tone and in his shivering only made the other man loathe him more. He had his mother's emotions.

"If you ever lay a hand on me again, I will kill you. I will kill you so fast that you will not even know what happened. There will be no warning, no lead up, only an end."

Mikael didn't want to die. It was something he didn't have even the slightest doubt about. Death was scary, and so too by extension was Lawrence. He wasn't going to argue, he wasn't going to fight back, because he wanted those hollow blue eyes to look anywhere at him. And in the moment he didn't doubt that the man meant his words without hesitance or uncertainty.

He could only nod dumbly, desummoning his gun in the hope it would evoke mercy.

He wasn't hopeful.

And Lawrence smiled, getting up off the boy but not letting him go, dragging him by the scruff of his shirt with his good hand, the gauntlet still summoned on his absent one.

He dragged him off in the direction of the Life labs, getting a few looks along the way from hunters in various degrees of vengefulness and distraction. No one really questioned him.

It didn't take long to find a nice sturdy supply closet and shut the irritating whiny little whelp in it, breaking the handle to keep it locked. It would keep him out of his hair for at least a short while.

Mik found himself in the dark with no way out.

For once, he didn't complain. He was just glad to be alive.
