Grrel was out and about in the early morning light, testing her new body. It was still the same lovely shade of orange and covered in scales like her normal body. The long purple hair was new though… and she loved it! Soft and silky, she’d spent most of the night after her ritual playing with it. Learning to comb and brush it like she’s seen (years ago) Kadryn do. I’ll have to go fin someone to braid it or something she thought as she ran her claws admiringly through the heavy silken locks. Keep it out of my way when I go and fight. She looked at the … clothes Anodyne had given her and wrinkled her snout. Why should she wear them? She’d never needed them before? Was there something wrong with her body? She looked at it. Nope. Lovely. Every last inch of it! But. She sighed. Perhaps the smallest amounts… for support if nothing else. And to hang jewelry on! She brightened; she could wear metals and jewels instead of cloth! Though she’d have to go find someone to make it for her…. She put on the light cloth hip wrap and breast band and then stood up. Shakily, but confidently, she managed to stand upright in the sun. It was different yes, but as she took that first step, not too bad. Tail for balance, don’t lean forward as you step, and shoulders back. This wasn’t too hard, she thought as she took small steps. The rest of the morning she practiced walking until she was confident in her ability to walk elegantly and not make a fool of herself. Then she tried running… that took more effort. She stumbled and fell on her face quite often. But, as the sun rose to its peak in the sky, she managed to run a short distance without falling over. Next, she thought as she sat in the shade by the oasis, I will need to practice fighting. Perhaps, her mind shot back to the odd metal construct, one of those? Now that I’ve gotten my ritual completed, I can head back home and then go check out those weird things!
Her plan ready, Grrel finished her rest (and grooming her hair) and started to see how fast she could move her body, how to use it in a fight. It was strong, not as strong as her Khehora muscles, but faster. The claws were just as sharp, the teeth as well though they were smaller. Her magic; well that was the easy part! It responded just the same, though now there was more of it!
She was just dusting off the sand from her scales when she saw Anodyne approaching. Curious as to why the Khehorian leader was coming back, she waited. Though once she saw the other’s expression, her first thought was of; “Did I do something wrong?” Not that she’d done anything wrong… but some habits are hard to break.
Anodyne looked pissed! She waited, her tail curling and coiling behind her, until the other had gotten close and asked, “You look angry. What’s gone wrong?”
“Orderites!” Came the venomous response. “That dammed Aevah ahs been creating constructs to act as soldiers in their blasted war! But they got loose… they’ve become intelligent.. and are attacking everything on Eowyn!”
“Ah…” Grrel paused and thought, “You mean constructs like a suit or armor that floats and talks? With glowing balls of light for legs?”
Anodyne stopped pacing and looked at her with a glare.
“I ran into one on my way here. It followed me for a while, but I managed to shake it off.”
“And you didn’t mention it?”
“Well.. I was a bit preoccupied at the time I figured I go out and investigate it after I went home.” She said with a flip of her head.
Anodyne paused then sighed and ran a clawed hand over her face. “You are correct.. I’m dealing with all the fallouts and fighting right now. I’m a bit stressed.”
Grrel figured that was about as close to an apology that she’d get. “So that armor was this new weapon?”
“Yes.. and they are attacking everyone. Dragon, Khehora, Magescian. We don’t know how many of these.. Mara is what they call themselves. We don’t know how many there are. There are many in the desert… but how many more are there in that stronghold?” She sighed and sat down next to the oasis. “I came to warn you as you return home about them. Also to ask your hlp in clearing them out.”
“Of course!” Grrel said. “Though I must warn you that the one I faced took a lightning blot to the ace and laughed.”
“You need to disturb the magic or shatter the form.” Anodyne said with a sigh. “That works best it seems. And they’re made with Gaili magic.. and can use some variant of it that some are starting to call metal magic.” She looked at Grrel. “The Rocky ones are the slower and weaker ones. The suits of armor that wield a weapon are faster and stronger. Then the last ones are the Mages. They are armor and cloth, and use magic. They are also the more intelligent ones. Be careful.”
Grrel nodded and collected her stuff. “I will be. And thanks.” She trotted out of the canyon and into the desert, so there was a new enemy? Well, she’d try out her new form in a fight against them!

The sun felt extra warm upon her scales and the soft wind that blew was lovely. She swished her tail about happily as she tied back her tresses into a loose braid. It was messy, but good enough to keep it out of her way. First things first, she thought, clearing the way to my clan’s lair!
Grrel flared her wings and gave a running jump into the air, glad of her practice in using the new form. Flying was easy, it was just the same as her other form, though easier to hover in she discovered. Hovering on a thermal, she looked down and spotted some flashing objects next to some rocks. Metallic armor in the desert is a death wish for the living: it bakes you alive. So that metal she saw below must be some of these… Maras! She thought for a moment on how she was going to do this. Disturb the magic that made them, Anodyne had said. Well… disrupting magic… hmm… Could she… shock the earth and metal magic within? It’d be too dangerous to try and eat the magic like she’d done in her ritual… but… Wait! That ritual! You took the magic and consumed it. She could use what she’d learned in her first ritual!
Grinning, Grrel dove down, a blasting spell prepared to throw at those lovely sparkling objects. The bolt of lightning she loosed bounced between two of the Mara’s, melting the armor that contained the magic. Just make it hot enough and the metal will melt, she grinned happily as she swooped up for a second dive. Now time to see if she could grab the magic, or disrupt it with her own. She noticed as she hovered there, that the two she’d melted had burning cloths ling in the puddle of cooling metal. Cloth? Those two must have been mages! Lucky me to kill them. Now I can pick them off with ease.
The second dive was different, she swerved towards one of the moving rocks, claws reaching for the magic, her power trying to call it to her, tear it from the stone form that contained it. It shook, but didn’t move... until her claws racked the Rack Mara’s head. Then she felt the magic connect and pulled it from the construct. A gleaming orb of green lay in her hands before it ripped free and flew off into the distance. Odd… is that a…soul? She wondered. It wasn’t magic.. or at least.. not pure magic.
But while she fluttered there, out of reach of the metal and rock Mara’s, the last of the Mages summoned a spear of stone and threw it at her, Grrel screamed as it hit her wing and she plummeted to the ground. Roaring her anger, she shifted to her Khehora form and charged. How dare it! Her wing! She’d have to walk all the way back… In her rage, she crashed into the first metal mara, smashing the armor and charging it with lightning to soften the cage. Shattering it, she turned to the others and, in a powerful and wasteful display of magic, summoned a lightning storm about her. Rippling crackling blots flashed out and shattered the silence of the desert. Thundered blacked out all sounds around her, she didn’t hear the Rock Mara’s shatter under the sheer weight of her magic, didn’t hear their strange metallic voices. Only one fled.. the Mage had been out of her range.. but Grrel, exhausted by that spell, could only sit and growl as it fled.
It fled back the same way the lights of the others, the souls she thought, went. There is something there that creates them… and destroying the body does nothing. We’re going to need to destroy the very magic of the Mara’s if we are ever to kill them all…

Her wing hurting and bleeding from the rock spear, Grrel gritted her teeth and burned the edges with lightning to cauterize the wound. It hurt, gods did it hurt, but it was better than fainting from blood loss. I’ll need to go find a healer, she thought as she walked into the desert. Our clan’s got only Toki who’s not a healer mage. The nearby clan did have one though, that she did. Plus they were closer and on her way back home. Walking through the desert, feet on the sand was nice. But boring! And took forever… And there was no wind created by flight to cool her off. Muttering balefully to herself, she meandered through the dune sea, her orange scales not quite blending in, but still hidden. She considered switching to her new two-legged form... but that’d be slower. And would hurt more, she figured, since those muscles were newer and she didn’t know how to use them as well.
Hours passed, and Grrel entertained herself by casting small magic’s, trying to do new things with it, seeing what lightning could be made to do. It was evening when she sensed other Khehora approaching. She knew they were only patrolling though, so merely trotted over to meet them. One landed near her.
“Who goes there?” Came the rather hostile response. Grrel stopped and considered it. Hostile? What was happening?
“Grrel of the Family Clan Srrelliz. I’m on my way home, but thought I’d stop by the Xalanth clan to see their healer.” She opened her wing and showed the gouged out area. “To see if they could heal this or something.”
“Ah.” The other relaxed and sighed in relief. “Sorry, but it’s been a tense few days. All the Mara attacks and stuff.”
Grrel sniffed. “So you act hostile to another Khehora?”
“Well…” He shifted nervously. “What would you have done?”
“Asked if they’d seen anything of danger.” Came her prompt response.
That just made him a little more embarrassed. “Sorry…”
“Nevermind.” She sighed. “Can you direct me towards the healer’s lairs? I’ve never been to the Xalanth clans lair before.”
“Sure.” He stood up and started walking. “What were you doing that caused the wound?”
“Fighting Mara. One of the mages managed to hit me with a stone spear.” She said in a miffed tone, not liking to admit to defeat. But it was hard to hide the loss since the wound… And she had taken down a bunch of them! It was just that one…
“Ah, so you’ve fought a few of them? How close were they?” He asked, a bit more interested. After all, where there was one, other Mara’s often followed,
“About half a day’s walk that way.” Grrel gestured with her claw back the way she’d come. “It was a group of 10… one managed to get away.” She sighed. “Though as much as I destroyed their bodies, I think it doesn’t matter.” Her voice was mournful.
“What? Why not?” The other was startled. Killing them not mattering?
“Because the magic just fled… It wasn’t all magic though.” She shook her head, “It was… like a soul or something. You can’t steal it or stuff, it’s… alive. So... Even though the body is gone, the magic or soul is still there. All they have to do is reforge or carve it and boom! The Mara I destroyed is back.”
He did not look happy at this news. Which was understandable. It mean that the clans in Eowyn were going to have to fight forever… unless they did something to destroy what ever made the Mara…
“But at least there’s got to be a wait time between the rerforging, right?” He asked. Grrel nodded.
“Yeah.. but that’s not the best of news. Just means a break. Wonder how we can stop it.” She sighed. “Stupid Magescians…. Why do they always make a mess of the big magics and cause trouble for those around them?” She was aggravated, hadn’t making the Bond been bad enough? Now they were trying to make more slaves? And all to fight their wars for them. Why not just go to war and kill each other off already? Then we can bar the Dovaa in their stupid plane and live peacefully here! NO threadt of bonding…
This thought, when it popped up. Gave her an idea… The dovaa had that lovely plane… so they could just…. Lock them inside it! No more dovaa to steal eggs and enslave! And if you got the Orderite and Oblivinites to go to war… which ever won the war would be weakened. Easy pickings if the Khehora all gathered together and attacked... Well! No more Magescians. No more egg thieves! The idea pleased her greatly... but how to go about it was the question. I will think more on this later, she thought. When I have time and others to plot with… Like Rhazes! He’d know how to go about it….
But plotting to rid herself of Magescians was just one thing. If she could find a way to break the bond, make it cease to be, then she’d settle for that. Probably easier than killing all the Magescians. I’ll think on both paths later. For now, get to a healer and tend to my wing! Eventually, when Grrel was certain her feet would fall off, they reached the clan’s lairs. She knew right away that they had Gaili’s. Lots of them. How else would they be able to hollow out a sand dune into a lair? It was fascinating! And really well hidden. Though she still liked the canyon lairs of her clan better!
After dropping her off at the healers, her guide wandered off. There she had to explain how it happened and let the Peisio do her magic.
“So how’s it being a Khehorian?” The healer asked in a sweet voice as she worked on the wing. Grrel looked over at her and grinned.
“You noticed?”
“Well, the power is fairly obvious. Plus,” the healer shifted to her own form, “I can notice others.” Grrel shifted as well and stretched out languidly, enjoying the feeling of the furs beneath her. The scale skin was much more sensitive than her Khehora form. She cast an eye over the other’s form. Slender and not a lot of curves. A different shape than Grrel’s own curvy body. But still pretty in it’s own way. She was also more magescian in face and form than Grrel. Which was weird but oh well! And she clothed herself in more clothing.
“Why do you cover yourself?” Grel asked curiously, as her wing healed and the rent mended.
“Huh? Oh! Um.. because.. it’s…” She stopped and looked down. Grrel had the bare minimum amount of clothing on…She blushed at the not hidden at all body. “Embarrassing?”
Grrel stretched and posed a bit, turning over on her side to show off the front, and twitched a tail teasingly. “Why? We’ve never worn clothing before... why start now? You don’t find your body beautiful? I do. I know I like my body.” She eyed the other openly. While she’d never actually slept with another women… she’d talked to those who did. And.. .a women did know what was pleasurable, so… if you did to another what you knew your body liked.. .be really pleasurable right?
“Oh.. um…” The other girl blushed more deeply. Grrel grinned, this was fun! Maybe she should try another woman? She’d slept with males of her kind before. She was no pure virgin, but was this one seemed to be more shy and not as confident. “I’ve never thought of it as that way. You.. you uh, always act this way?” She said as she tore her eyes away and looked elsewhere.
Grrel sat up and chuckled. “Not at all! Though.. now that I’ve got this new body.. I’m … interested in trying it out…” She raised and eyebrow at the other.
“Oh!” The blush that spread across those pale blue scales was deeper than ever. “I’ve...um...”
“Never mated with a female? Me neither!” Grrel said as she moved in closer. “But there's always a first time for most things yes?” She was moderately surprised when the other leaned in and kissed her first. Nervous, but eager. Oh ho, so she was not so innocent after all! She thought with a leer as she pushed the other to the ground. This will be fun! Or maybe she’s innocent but wants to explore too? All the better!
She spent that night in Zerelth’s tent, exploring just what this new body did and liked. It was quite fun! She knew from Zerelth's reactions that she'd done a good job.. and as nervous or new at this as the other was, she made a damn fine partner! Her body was satisfied and happy with this first try. I should try a man next, she thought as she curled about the dozing Zerelth. See what that’s like! The more sensitive skin made mating that much more fun! Plus.. she could be on top….
