Otto hung out around the Lighthouse portals during a midnight shift. Sure, he was recovering from a broken clavicle, but that didn't give him a free pass from work. Besides, he had something now that would now stop him from fearing the dark.

His artifact; a pair of sunglasses that helped him to see in the dark.

He felt so powerful. No fear. With these, he could march on to any situation with confidence. He felt as if there was a wall between himself and danger. A way to part the fog. He could see things.

Otto watched the pathway that led to the lighthouse with ease. No flashlight required. This must be how normal people reacted to the dark, he thought to himself.

A figure could soon be seen walking up the path, their hips swaying slightly as they hummed some sort of pop song as they went. America had a small cooler in hand, one of Konstantin's homemade lunches and how much she had missed them, how much she'd missed the small, thoughtful things he did to make sure she was well and cared for. Eventually she was close enough to see Otto by the portals, and the girl grinned widely, "Well it's been awhile, now hasn't it?"

He'd seen her coming a long time now, and it tickled him pink that he had. Plenty of time to adjust and prepare. No sudden figure looming from the dark.

"Sup." He replied back, comfortably leaning against a wall like so many cool kids do. He wears his sunglasses at night, just like the cool kids. "Guess so, huh? What's in the cooler?" Was America too fancy for the traditional paper bag lunches?

America wanted to coo and laugh in delight at the coolguy pose, because she loved the posturing of boys in so many ways. But she settled for smiling, giving the blonde a once over full of approval and a pleased, "You're lookin' good, honey." Because he was, because cocky confidence suited him so much better than bitter defeat.

Holding the cooler aloft in triumph she announced, practically glowing, "Konstantin came back from his mission." Otto knew damn well what that meant. Food. Specially made with thought and care just for them.

He smirked lightly at her compliment, only for a brief moment. Maybe the sling made him look that much cooler, like an injured badass, or the shades made everything about him that much cooler. Whatever it was, he apparently looked good. Awesome.

Otto pushed off the wall with his foot, stepping toward America once she mentioned Kostya. Kostya meant food. "Jesus, like... real food?" Oh Hell yeah! No more microwave hot pockets and plastic meals! A Kostya around meant home cooked goodness.

"How opposed are you to sharin'?"

With a flourish, America set the cooler on the small card table near the portal, and pulled up a chair. "I'm more than willing to chair this delicious meal with you, if..." she waggled her eyebrows, "...you tell me how you suddenly ended up suddenly surrounded by beautiful ladies."

Otto slid the glasses up and over his hair, pushing his bangs back like a headband. He gave America a calculating gaze before sitting down with her. "When am I not?" He remarked back with sass, a brow rose high and his face steeled in solemn absence. As usual.

"Or do you mean like.... Cami n' Maebe?" Everyone seemed to have the wrong idea about them. "Look, it ain't what people keep makin' it out to be. I'm not some floozy, man whore; bangin' chics left n' right." He sure hoped people didn't see him that way.

America winked at him, because damn right, and began removing the sandwiches, pasta salad, cookies, and lemonade from the cooler. "And yeah, those two." Sending him a flat look, she continued, "And nothing's wrong with being a floozy. I'm a bit of a floozy, I'll have you know it's usually good fun for all. But..." she admitted, "it did used to get kinda frustrating, when people'd make assumptions about me and Kon. It's not so bad now that's he isn't so uncomfortable about such things."

Pouring herself a glass, the girl went on, "Anyway, tell me how that came about. Even ya'll aren't banging, which, gotta say, I thought you and Maebe were given what I've seen on Twitter, you seem happier and more..." she gestured vaguely. Here.

"Right, sorry." Otto amended. Cami always preached about body pride freedom and all that jazz. Otto himself tended to be much more reserved about such things. Might have been his upbringing.

"Well like... with me n' Cami. We talked on Twitter cause people were makin' STD jokes about me n' Maebe." Which America likely knew. "She got me all scared cause she got tricked into thinking d**k centipedes was an actual thing." With that memory planted, he almost laughed, stifling a smile by biting his lip. It was funny in hindsight.

"So she came over with ice cream to apologize, and after talkin' with her we just like...." He waved his hand. "Hit it off, I guess. In a like, platonic way. Not that she ain't friggin hot, just... I like her for who she is and what she stands for more than what she looks like."

And then there was Maebe.

Otto breathed out like this issue was a wallop.

"And as for Maebe.... she been creepin' on me since like... after New Years? And after Nevada died, I didn't have any more excuses to say no to her so we..." Well, you know. Otto coughed, feeling awkward. "But like, I don't like the idea of havin' sex with someone I don't even like or care about. So I started tryin' to find somethin' about her that I liked. And I dunno how but, she's kind of important to me now. Me, her n' Cami just feel like peas in a pod or some s**t."

Licking a bit of dressing off her her thumb, America nodded. "Sometimes the best people are the ones we weren't expecting, even if it seems like...they were always meant for us in the end."

Her expression slides from soft to saucy in a matter of moments, "There's a lot to like about Maebe. Some people don't like her, and she seems to not like them right back, but I think she's a better person than they're willing to see. Also hella fun. And Cami...well I've only met her the once, well...met her lips, but still, I've been hearing more and more mention of her later." Cupping her chin, America asked, "What's she like?"

Otto nodded. It was a lot like that. It just clicked, and maybe people saw it as rushing into something. But damn if it didn't feel right. It truly felt like it was meant to be.

America at least seemed to know Maebe was more than she let on. More than the mask she chose to wear. Otto took the time to take away that mask, much to Maebe's discontent.

"Cami's..." Otto rubbed his neck, feeling the burn of the spotlight shy him away. He tried his best to answer. Not just for the promise of food (mostly the food) but also because he considered America a good friend. She'd pulled him out of his depression with beer bottle chucking, after all. If losing one friend after another taught him anything, it was that he ought not to waste the opportunity to get to know his friends; even if his initial reaction was to distance himself as a means of numbing the pain.

"Cami is this really sweet, super corny, woman. She's so affectionate and compassionate. A lot of stuff I don't got. I like that she's got this bouncy personality, but she ain't naive or passive. She's got strong ideals.. and a lot of'em I share with her. I feel like there's so many people on this island with ******** up ideas. It's just nice to get close to someone I can trust not to steal my liver while I sleep."

America shrugged with a nod, sliding food across to him. "There's worse standards. She sounds pretty amazing and all sorts of just right." Smiling she continued, "She's a Sun, too right? And Maebe in Moon. Dang but y'all do match up something fierce. Bet you kicked some a** in that tower."

"We uuuhhh...." Otto grimaced, eyes darting down to the food instead. "We had our moments." He nodded. That worked. They did have their moments. "Maebe did a lot more than I thought she would. She surprised me. But a lot of the battle was just too much for us. the enemies were just so much stronger than any of us combined." Otto unwrapped a sandwich, cause sandwiches were the best.

"I spent a lot of that battle dizzy or out of it. I lost sight of them a few times." He took a bite, taking a moment to sigh happily at the taste of good food. "That whole battlefield was way out of our league."

Snorting, America washed her bite away with a sip of her drink and then stated, "Bullshit. Like maybe when things are one on one, yeah. But that's not how we fight. Like even if it's just one hunter, it's still two people, right? Anyway, like it was just a portion of us and we still managed to get whatever it was Mister Terrorist Dickface was aiming toward. He just doesn't know how to say ******** thank you for a job well done. Which makes him a shitty leader, but we already knew that."

A flush of anger rose up on the girl's cheeks as she ranted, "He wasn't even much help, we kicked a** and got the job despite him not because of him, so ******** that noise. Yeah they were ******** powerful and ******** over out minds a bit, but in the end that didn't even matter. We're badass warriors who get s**t done." Solemnly she held her fist out for a dap.

Maybe Otto had been brainwashed from all those years in Death. Everything America said just seemed so unbelievable. What battle had she been at? Where was he? As far as he'd seen, they'd lost. Medea won. Caelius hadn't won either, but as always, all losses were on everyone else.

Otto gave a defeated sigh, bumping her fist anyway.

"I'm curious, though. In what way did we win this one? S'far as I could tell, we got our asses handed to us. What'd we get out of it?"
