So, I've been taking birth control pills for about two years. I'm a veteren, you could say.
I always take them at the same time every day and never miss one.
But this time I had my period and started on my pills again...well, I've kept bleeding. Usually, the bleeding stops after a few days (like2-3) after I start taking pills again, but I'm still bleeding as steadily as ever on the fifth day, and passing a bunch of smallish blood clots.
I called the doctor and talked to a nurse on the phone (because the closest Kaiser is almost an hour away from where I live and go to school, and my weeks are full, and it's finals week), and told her about the weird period thing.
She told me not to worry until next week, and to call back if I'm still bleeding, but then she mentioned something else that kind of scared me.
She said that I should buy a pregnancy test, because I might be pregnant.
This confused me. I've heard that women can continue having regular periods during pregnancy, or stop altogether, but I've never heard of a woman who is pregnant bleeding a ton after taking birth control pills.
I'm just curious as to what you may have experienced or what you make of this?
If this is true, perhaps this should also be added to the pregnancy sticky.....*_* (is quite overwhelmed).

Well, no birth control is 100% effective. So I'm guessing even if you took all your pills and never missed one, it could still be possible for you to be pregnant.
If anyone has information on this though, I will definitely add it to one of the stickies once more is posted.

It is entirely possible. When you become pregnant your body starts producing to provide for the uterine wall and the mucous plug. It also could be that you also either had implanation bleeding or a miscarriage. It's not uncommon for those to happen in pregnancy and have periods. I knew a friend who thought she was having excessive periods but was pregnant and also had placenta previa (I think I misspelled that, I'll get the correct term on an edit.)
Hope you get the results soon!

After all, one more quarter and I'm outta Uni (if I pass all my classes, ne?), and after that, I just need to get a job. I am one of those people who is at a "not horrible" place in the case that I am, because I personally wouldn't want to go through abortion unless of a health emergency or imminant death of the fetus. I am also living on my own (w/my fiance), so I'm independant too. ....well, we'll see what happens.

It's not unheard of for the pill to let you get pregnant and then cause a miscarriage. Excessive bleeding would suggest that to me.
But there isn't too much you can do at this point and stressing about it will only make things worse. Do as your doctor tells you. If you are still bleeding, go in to see him/her and get a test just-in-case.
You seem to have your head together and I'm sure that, whatever the result, everything will be fine.

It's quite funny, but my period stopped completely the day after I posted this.
I still haven't taken a pregnancy test, though, because I need to get paid *hates being broke at the end of the month*
I'm SO glad that my fiance and I had the "what to do in case of pregnancy" talk WAAAAAY beforehand.
And also, I am happy because he reassured me that he will not run away or abandon me no matter what happens (which, I know it sounds stupid, but it's nice to actually have him say that to me, because I always worry about being left all alone due to some past relationship disasters).

Hurray for awesome men! For sure! My boyfriend has told me the same thing, that he will not leave me or abandon me if I were to get pregnant at this point in our lives. He also said he wouldn't force me to get an abortion. He's the best! heart

This week is finals week, and I just finished doing a final (which made me feel like crap) and I still have a paper that I'm only half done with due tomorrow morning...V_V But it just makes me ever so happy to be with my awesome Marcus. *goes all glooshy*

Hehe, I know what you mean about the "day after" thing. I was too weeks late on my period earlier this week. I went to see a doctor and then got my period the morning after. I mean really, what's that all about?

Never happened to me, but my sister was on the Pill and had normal periods throughout her first pregnancy. She didn't even know she was pregnant until she was eight months gone, because she never put on any weight. Not sure about whether her periods were longer or not, but I think she had long periods anyway.

You can get preggers on any kind of birthcontrol and not all women stop having their rag when they are preggers.
Like she said, get a test.
