Proto's days were growing ridiculously long. He had never been able to stay up for days like Bass usually did. No, Proto had made it a habit to recharge every night, to keep his core as charged as possible. It was not an entirely unpleasant practice, though sometimes the others called him lazy. The assholes.

But with Flashover so clearly on the move, and bots dropping left and right there was not much time for the red general to stay charged. He had been running himself ragged in between patrolling the City, checking on those in the Tower, making sure the army was okay, and keeping Bass as comfortable as possible. Speaking of him, he had managed to squeeze in another visit to Bass to his busy schedule. Afterwards he had to patrol again, then check the grid...

Maybe he'd get some sleep. When was the last time he recharged? Honestly he couldn't remember...

Tail dragging behind him, Proto stepped into the other General's room. He held his helmet in his hands, though honestly he looked ready to just drop it on the floor and keel over. He didn't, out of respect, because he wasn't quite sure if Bass himself was sleeping and if he -was- well Proto didn't want to wake him up. That'd just be rude.

Bass wasn't sleeping. He'd managed to sit up on his bed, E-tank in the only hand he had left and looked absolutely bored. Recharging was basically all the taller General could do since his run in with Flashover, who he was going to kill if it was the last thing he did. Those green eyes flicked around when he heard noises but other than that he was usually just laying there, which... was something he liked doing because he was out of the way. Not everyone knew the extent of how bad off he was. Even Proto didn't know that his core was draining too quickly. The fall managed to knock something loose inside of him and it was entirely unpleasant.

Since that day, even when Proto did come visit him, he didn't smile, didn't purr. He was a miserable mass of barely put together tin. He felt like tin anyway, even though that's not what he was mad out of. Wily was busy, understandably, trying to keep the patrol bots online, trying to keep the city's defenses going with Proto, building way, and arms and legs in Bass's length weren't easy to come by.

When he heard familiar footsteps, Bass looked up. Proto had put hair back in, not all of it, but it was better than a half bald head. His helmet hadn't been fixed, but he wasn't covered in soot anymore. One eye was exposed still, wide and damaged. It would glitch and on and off every so often but he was learning to live with that.

Wily was whispering about just rebuilding him after fixing his core. Nothing set in stone yet. "....Proto."

Ah, metallic voice, how he hated it.

Proto didn't know about the core, and he wouldn't know how to react even if he did. He was quite used to his own core's failings, but he wouldn't be prepared to handle Bass' as well. He also didn't know Wily was thinking of just rebuilding him, which was good because that'd be yet another thing he was vastly uncomfortable with.

As it was, Proto was missing Bass' company. He missed the other's purrs, his smile, hell he even missed being -insulted- by the other. Anything that meant Bass was back to normal and not the sad lump of a robot he currently was.

"Hey there Bass."
He dropped his helmet onto his cot, turning a tired smile to the other.
"I'm here for a bit...can I get you anything?"
Proto -knew- the other likely hated asking for anything. A fiercely independent bot like Bass being forced to rely on others for...just about anything? Yeah, he got it. Still he was going to offer. Tired as he was, he'd do anything to help Bass right now.
PostPosted: Sat Jun 14, 2014 6:45 pm

He looked Proto over as the other moved to the cot and dropped his helmet off before rolling his shoulders and shook his head. "...I'm fine I guess." He couldn't even bring himself to smile at the other's attempt. He rolled his shoulder and just motioned the other to join him.

Yes, Bass absolutely hated asking for help. Knowing Crash had helped him... He was thankful, but God dammit if he wasn't annoyed he needed help. Everyone knew Bass wasn't the most level headed, and the whole fight had been rather heated, even without the fire. He was so pissed off he didn't even hit Flashover with anything, not a fist, rifle, grenade, nothing. Stupid ******** flesh bag. He was going to light Flashover on fire and see how he felt about it.

That was the bad thing about staying alone. He replayed what he could remember of the fight and it just annoyed him all over.

"You're tired."

If Proto's tail wasn't already on the floor it'd be drooping rather heavily right now. For some reason it just...broke something inside him to see Bass this messed up. He still didn't understand all these emotions he felt around the other General, but he knew he didn't like this. Not one bit.

Still, he moved to sit down with the other. It couldn't hurt to sit with him just a bit, could it? Surely the others could watch over things for just a few minutes.

He'd find out later that Spark's tracker had dropped out of the system during this time.

For now he just tried to play off how tired he was.
"No time to sleep. Wily's got a lot I need to take care of."
It was dangerous, running his core like this. But Proto didn't feel like he had much of a choice.
PostPosted: Sat Jun 14, 2014 7:04 pm

Proto sat and he tugged him closer. The need to just.. have someone against him who he knew actually cared, even a spark, was strong. Basically Proto was the only one who could get away with this kind f touch. Slowly, he pressed his face into Proto's hair and just held him as tight as he could with his one arm. It wasn't he same, but it would have to be enough. He would make it be enough.

His eye that had been melted shut cut offline then but he didn't make a noise. It would be dim and dull when he pulled back but eventually it would light back up. Not much he could do about it.

"Wily only has one functioning General and you need to recharge."

Proto hadn't been in his room to recharge in a while. Unless he was going to his own personal room, Proto hadn't recharged in quite a few days. "Come on, Blues, give it a rest already."

He felt guilty he couldn't go patrolling, couldn't go find Flashover and use him as a punching bag until his knuckles turned red with blood. It bothered him that Proto was pulling extra duties becaue Bass had been to stupid with fighting Flashover head on and not calling for backup. In a way this was cosmic justice for being a stubborn hot head.

And Bass was the only one that could get away with this. Proto didn't like to be surrounded, didn't like to be restrained, and yet anytime Bass wrapped his arms (arm..) around him he simply melted into the touch. This was one of the only places he was ever fully at ease. For now, this was definitely enough.

"I can't.."
Yet he was settling down. Just...a few minutes, just close his eyes...

No, no he forced them back open. He had to stay awake. Visiting was fine! But the army needed him.

"Bots are still dropping. Little ones, but still. He's out there, and I can't let him keep picking away at the forces."

Really, he couldn't let himself rest when he knew that a*****e was out there offlining bots left and right. The guilt he felt that he wasn't there when Bass truly needed backup was eating him alive. If he had been there, they could have taken down Flashover! Bass wouldn't be this messed up, there wouldn't be dead robots piling up all over town, there wouldn't be a rebellious storm brewing on the horizon...

Everything would just be fine.

Bass stroked over Proto's back slowly as the other relaxed against him and just let his brows knit a little. Slowly, Bass just nuzzled into Proto's hair and found his ears and gave them a slow n**. He tugged at them, just once, and then just dropped his head to the other's head again. God, he was tired. Bass squinted a little at the dark room and just tried to shake the bad ******** Flashover. I'm going to murder him once Wily fixes me."

It wasn't a threat at this point. It was seriously a promise.

Ah...there we go. That was a typical Bass move, and though it was in the form of ear-tugging Proto appreciated it. Hell, he was even smiling a little.

"I can't catch up to him, I don't -get it-. He's just one rebel. How is it that I can't find one ******** rebel."

It was bothering him immensely. Surely he should be able to find Flashover and ring his god damn neck, right?! Why was it that he could do ten tons of other amazing things, but he couldn't hunt down one stupid rebel.

One.

"I hope you do murder him, though I was attempting to beat you to it."
PostPosted: Sat Jun 14, 2014 8:00 pm

Bass snorted little and just moved to nose into Proto's scarf. It would have been his neck but that yellow blanket was in the way. He almost pouted at that (Bass didn't pout, thus almost). With a noise he just let his fingers twitch before he threw his hand in the air. "I don't even know if he's in the City. I just want blood. If you get him bring me his head on a silver ******** platter."

He growled and just flailed his one arm and the stump of the other and flopped back a bit.

"s**t. I'm so pissed off."

Sorry Bass, he rather liked his yellow security blanket scarf.

"He's still here -somewhere-. He's too much of a showoff a*****e to leave, and things are still happening. I just can't seem to find him. Every pile of bots I investigate leads to a dead end. Like it's just another show of 'look what I can do!' and no ******** payoff."

Proto sighed, flopping over with the other to rest his head on his chest.

"I'm starting to think I just...can't do this."
Behind his glasses, his eyes were starting to droop shut again.
"So....tired. I should...go."
He didn't seem to be making an effort to get back up.
PostPosted: Sat Jun 14, 2014 8:10 pm

Bass looked worried when he said he couldn't do this.

"Can't do what, Blues...? Dammit, just rest for two hours and recharge some of your core." Bass took Proto down again by his scarf and just kept him there, using what strength he could muster. Proto was tired, pushing himself to the edge of turning himself offline from exhaustion and Bass didn't want to deal with that.

He forced Proto's head against his chest and just pet through the other's hair with a low grumble about irresponsible bots who needed recharging, but it was ...hopefully playful.

"There's always tomorrow, so just stop for a while."

Damnit, he was going to lose this fight too.

Proto resisted a bit, but soon enough he was pressed against Bass and having his hair petted. ....It was rather nice.

"Tomorrow it could be Sheep, or Magma, or Star that disappears off the grid. I can't rest Bass, I just....."
Proto was going limp, definitely slipping off into recharge.

"Need to get him, so...mad abot what he did to you..."
PostPosted: Sat Jun 14, 2014 8:24 pm

Bass wouldn't say anything because he wanted Proto to recharge. Honestly the only way to beat Flashover with one general is to have that general at one hundred percent recharged and strength. Proto was way less than half that, from what he could tell.

With a soft click the eye that went offline came back on and he looked down at Proto with a tiny fond expression. It wasn't quite a smile, or a smirk, just a gentle curl of the lips.

Stupid Blues. He couldn't be Hope if he didn't take care of himself.

Hope was quite used to pushing himself beyond his limits. Maybe it was something that Light had written into his code...

"...Fine...I'll sleep."
Look, he was still holding out!
"Tomorrow...I'm getting you some e-pops while I'm out on patrol."
Surely his father had made some more of them by now, right? And that should cheer Bass up!

That message delivered, Proto slipped into recharge with a soft purr.
