Summery: Adrianna blushed slightly before saying, "Um... You can sleep on my lap if you want."
---
Veronica yawned as she walked to school for morning practice. She readjusted the strap of her sports bag on the her right shoulder and then her bookbag on the left one. She stopped a few yards from the field and stared at Adrianna, who was standing in front of the fence. Veronica jogged over to her, worry written all over her face.
"How long have you been here?"
"Um... About half an hour?" Adrianna looked at her innocently, "Is that bad, Vero?"
The girl smiled and shook her head. "No, not really, but you could've told me that you were gonna be here so I could walk you." Vero sheepishly scratched her cheek.
"You don't have to. You don't get enough sleep anyways. You come early for practice, go through the whole school day, do homework, and then get up early for practice again. I thought I'd keep you company this morning before the others arrive." Adrianna looked at her with hopeful eyes.
"I guess it's alright, since usually I get here an hour before them. Sometimes they don't come for 2 hours."
Vero and Adrianna walked to the practice field and sat on the bench. "Wow... You come at 5 in the morning to have practice but they don't come until at least 6 or 7...?"
Adrianna was really worried about Vero's health, knowing Vero must've been staying up late to catch up on homework, getting very little sleep before going to school for hours of practice.
"I'm fine you know," Vero said softly as if she read Adrianna's thoughts, "Then again, maybe I'll take a nap since no one's here yet. I am pretty tired."
Adrianna blushed slightly before saying, "Um... You can sleep on my lap if you want."
Vero had been staring out at the field, but now she looked at Adrianna, the tips of her ears reddening slightly. "O-oh... As long as I'm not too heavy." Vero lay her head down on Adrianna's lap and fell asleep almost instantly.
Adrianna blushed a bit harder as she watched her friend Veronica sleep. They had been friends for a long time, but lately something seemed... different? When she had the free time to just watch Vero, whether in sports or in the classroom as she struggled to stay awake, thoughts would flow through her mind. She imagined Vero holding her in her arms, in comfortable silence. She thought of how cute Vero looked no matter what outfit she was wearing, even in her school, gym and team uniforms. She imagined Vero sitting in front of her, the two just staring into each other's eyes, faces getting closer and closer, eyes slowly closing...
Their noses were almost touching when Adrianna realized she had been moving along with her imaginary-self, and her eyes shot open in surprise as she stared down at Vero's peaceful, sleeping face, lips only inches away from Adrianna's own. A small noise came from those lips as Veronica's eyes fluttered open, and Adrianna was frozen with fear. Veronica's blue eyes stared up at Adrianna's green own, Vero's eyes heavy with sleep. The lips curled into a tired smile and Adrianna smiled back her own nervous one. The two stared at each other as Veronica drifted into full consciousness, slowly realizing this wasn't one of her dreams and it was really happening. The two girls stared at each other for a while longer before Adrianna sat up. Vero followed her example, and the two sat in silence for what seemed like eternity.
The two watched as her team members rushed past their bench, laughing and talking loudly as they ran towards the field. As Vero had predicted, the group had arrived an hour late for practice, and the two watched as the coach yelled at the other girls. Vero stood up and waited until the coach was finished yelling at her team members. Veronica picked up her bags, leaned towards Adrianna, gave her a quick peck on the lips, and ran towards the field.
Adrianna stared after her, shock evident on her face, but smiled when Veronica looked back at her. Adrianna gave her a small wave, and Veronica grinned in childish happiness before continuing on her way. Adrianna laughed softly to herself as she lay down on the bench, hoping Veronica would wake her up in time for class with another kiss.
