((I guess I'll start it off then.))

It had been about a week now since the death of Beta's Mentor, Alpha, in Chicago. But to Jordan, it's as if she could still feel the blood of her best friend running down her hands and soaking her lap. A couple of hours before, they were arguing about early retirement and then the next second she's gone just like that. All these thoughts weren't making the drive over to Alpha's house any less nerve wracking. "Damn, it's not even happy hour yet. Guess I'm going into this sober." She thought as she looked at her dashboard that read 1:04 in white luminescent characters. She looked over in the black leather passenger seats at the files she received earlier with a sticky note on the top that had a name on it.

Chris, it was a name forced into her head so much that it gave her a chuckle when she could hear Alpha's voice in her head echoing it. Even when she was dying she was talking about her, begging Jordan that all she would ask of her was to watch over her daughter the way she always wished she could have before passing on. "Damn shame the two of them couldn't even see each other one last time. Poor girl gets a call over the phone saying that her mother was dead and is just expected to get over it." She said before pulling in at the driveway of the Asher family.

They had a laneway house that was second to the top of a hill next to a four way stop of the road they lived on: Zaharias Boulevard, and Donovan Way; the road that lead you into the city. Beta stepped out of her Black Audi R8 as she pulled out her black adidas dufflebag and sword on the passenger side floor. "32 Zaharias Boulevard. . . " She murmured as she picked up the files and shut the door, clicking the lock button on her car keys before making her way to the front door. She looked at her key ring, shifting to the only other key on it, unlocking the door and walking in.

"Still the same as before." She said as she stood in the hardwood foyer that was immediately next to the white carpet living room. The layout of the house simple: three floors. First floor consisted of living room, a kitchen with a white island counter top, and a slide door to the deck outside. Upstairs was the master bedroom with a bathroom and balcony, a bedroom, one room she'd never been in, and a bathroom at the end of the catwalk. Downstairs was the basement that was transformed into a bar and also a little gym area for Alpha. There was the fenced-in backyard out back with one half that had grass and firepit, while the other side was the pool area. "Oh yeah. . .I could get used to this." Jordan said to herself as she dropped her stuff in front of the doorway and walked around.

Nobody had greeted and the door was locked, which meant that Chris must have been at her classes at college. With the house to herself, she was quick to raid the refrigerator and grab up some left pasta she found on the top shelf and poured herself a glass of water. She got a fork and made her way to the couch before turning on the TV to MTVjamz with the strereo at it's loudest. Her boots were kicked up on the glass table before giving a chuckle and biting into a fork full of pasta. "Oh man Alpha. . .you sure did live the good life." She muffled as she swallowed on the leftovers.

Chris was supposed to be in class, but she hadn't been able to find the motivation to go today. Or yesterday. Or the day before. Her teacher understood the situation and had hinted that he would be lenient, and Chris kept telling herself she would be back next class period, but... She felt so lost, so unsettled. Nothing felt right anymore. Her energy was gone, too. She hadn't gone grocery shopping or even so much as opened the blinds in her house since her mother's death. In short, Chris was basically existing right now. That was it. Just existing. She had only left the house to visit her mother's freshly-covered grave.

She was understandably surprised when she arrived home to the sound of obnoxiously loud music. Surely that wasn't coming from her house, right? She didn't listen to this kind of crap. And not to mention, she hadn't turned on her stereo for a week. So why did it sound like that noise was pouring out of her living room? Someone was here, that was why. And after finding the vaguely familiar Audi in her driveway, she had a guess as to who had visited her.

After getting out of her car and walking up the driveway, Chris unlocked and opened the door to her house and stepped inside. The music was so loud, she couldn't even hear herself think. Throwing her backpack onto the floor beside the door, Chris followed the noise to the living room. Sure enough, there was Beta, lounging on the couch with her feet on the table and a pasta-loaded fork in her hand. Chris didn't know much about her, just that she had been a good friend of her mother's. Occasionally Beta came over for dinner or stopped by to speak to Elaine, and sometimes Elaine had talked fondly about her, but otherwise Chris and Beta were just a step above strangers. Chris clicked off the stereo and fixed her gaze on Beta. Ugh, even with the music off, she could still hear that song ringing in her ears. "What are you doing?"

Beta didn't even hear the door open and close as Chris walked in, until the girl turned off the stereo and asked what she was doing. She looked up at Chris and then back down at the tub of pasta while her fork was literally inches from her face. "Ugh. . .what does it look like I'm doing? I'm actually enjoying my first meal in what feels like a week." She teased around as she took a bite into it. "So good by the way. . .just. . .Mmmm. . .Did you make that?" Jordan continued to joke before putting the tub down on the table.

She stood up and turned around to look directly at Chris while she unwrinkled her space patterned tank top underneath her black leather jacket. She placed her hands on her denim jean covered hips before looking her up and down. "Yeah, just like her. That brown hair and those piercing brown eyes that look like they're ready to kick my a**. Except you're not tatted, got longer hair, and if you really did want to kick my a**, you wouldn't stand a chance." She said getting off topic. She wanted to say she was just as beautiful as her mom, but she didn't want to make it more awkward as it is, what with her kind of just intruding into the house and all.

She brought her left arm to the back of her head to scratch it as she looked down at the carpet in frustration. "How long has it been? Was it right before Halloween that I showed up and stole a few Kitkats from the candy bowl? Now the summer heat is starting to kick in." She chuckled as she tried to break the ice with the girl. She never had to start an actual conversation with her when the two were in the room. Usually it was Alpha that was talking their ears out with stories.
PostPosted: Tue Jun 10, 2014 8:29 pm

Chris narrowed her eyes at Beta. "Since you weren't at the funeral, yeah, it's been since Halloween." Even Chris was startled by the bite in her voice. Beta didn't deserve it. She was grieving, too. And as intrusive and obnoxious as she was being right now, she wasn't actually doing anything to warrant rude replies. So why was Chris being such a b***h, then? Chris relaxed and looked away, clearly regretting what she had said--and, more so, how she had said it. Concluding that her hostility was the result of spending a week without anyone to talk to and a persistent desire to be alone, she forced herself to lose the attitude, and she glanced at Beta again with much gentler eyes.

"I'm... I'm sorry. Yeah, it's been a while," she said, persuading her lips to spread into a small smile. Chris smoothed out her royal blue tee and shoved her hands into the pockets of her dark jeans. "It's been a while for that pasta, too," she continued, managing a chuckle. "I made that last week." Hesitating a moment, she gave Beta a quick once-over. The woman looked about the same as she had around Halloween. Same rough haircut, same dark eyes, same intimidating fashion sense. And tattoos everywhere. "So what brings you here, after all this time?" she asked, meeting Beta's gaze again.

Beta was a little taken back by those sharp words Chris fired at her. "Sounds like someone's got a little something on their chest. Never really heard that that come from you before." She smirked in annoyance as she looked at the girl, trying to put on a smile. If this wasn't Alpha's daughter, Jordan would have given her a right hook to the jaw for a remark like that. Even she felt a little insulted about it, since she was there at Elaine's side before she died. She was the only person there for Elaine at the time and that's how it's always been. Jordan couldn't tell that to Chris yet. She didn't know anything about the underground life her mother lived in when she wasn't watching over her. There was probably so much hidden from the girl that Beta would have to be careful of what she talks about.

Eventually the hostile atmosphere around the girl subsided and talked with Jordan in a more familiar way she remembered from their encounters before. "Really? Only a week? Looks like I might have to start making request for now on." She grinned as she walked over to her bag in the entrance ready to answer her next question.

She pulled out the files from on top of her duffle bag. "While I was away, I gotta call from your mom's attorney about how she left something for me in the will if something were ever to happen to her." Jordan said as she handed the custody papers to Chris with a smile and placed a hand on the girl's small shoulders. "She left you under my supervision and made plans to have me become your legal guardian. The lawyer helped me fill it out a few days ago. I'm a little surprised the gal had so much faith in me that she'd want me of all people to take responsibility of you. To hell with it though, it's the least I could do." She explained as she gazed at Chris in excitement and nervousness over how she would react to this news.
PostPosted: Thu Jun 12, 2014 10:36 am

As she took the custody papers from Jordan, Chris's eyes grew as wide as saucers and her eyebrows rose so high they nearly hit the roof. This had to be a joke... right? One last prank from her mother, who had always been a goof and a troublemaker at heart. One last hurrah. Right? The document looked pretty official, though--of course, not that Chris had much to compare it to. Chris's gaze rose slowly from the papers to meet Jordan's. She was surprised to find that there was an excited spark in Jordan's eyes, like she was actually happy about this, like she was enthusiastic about the fact that what Elaine had left her in the will was essentially Chris. As much as Chris wanted to share that sentiment, she was too stunned to feel anything but confusion and uncertainty.

"I think I need to sit down," she said, somewhat in a daze as she broke away from Jordan and sat in a nearby chair. This wasn't the end of the world; it wasn't a wholly bad thing. She just needed to process this new information. And also... "So, what does this mean?" she asked, finally looking at Jordan again. She knew what it meant legally, but what she really wanted to know was how it would affect her and Jordan's lives.

Jordan watched as Chris gave a baffled look as to what exactly was just happening. "Hey now, don't make me feel so welcomed." She said with a tone of sarcasm. The expression on the girl's face was a priceless look that made her raise an eyebrow in amusement. She couldn't help, but to be disappointed that Chris couldn't relate to the feelings she was having. Though she couldn't really blame her since they weren't really affiliated with each other. Then again, this girl wasn't moving around the U.S. and other countries like she was.

"Don't get me wrong, this was a big shocker to me as well. It was hard to just drop everything I was doing and rush back here to town and baby you." She said as the girl made her way to the reclining chair in the living room. Just a few days ago, she was hired for arms in the aid of a gang war going on down in Arizona just shortly after being in Chicago. Her Audi was putting on alot of mileage and is a gas guzzler at times. Not to mention it's trashed with energy drinks and chip bags from doing occasional stakeouts in it. "But what it means I guess is; I'm going to be living with you here now. Kind of like a roommate, buuuuut I'm your guardian So I have some reign over you."

"I'll be helping out with paying for your college. As well as anything that has to do with the house with money I get from my. . .jobs." Beta said as she leaned on the back of the chair Chris was sitting in. This kind of house was easy to make payments for with the fact that she makes 500k per hire and a quarter of any heist she's a part of. If she really wanted to, she could own a house in Dubai. Along with her own pet cheetah. But it was best to keep those kind of things covert. She was excited to actually be living somewhere now, no more sleeping in the car or buying a room in the nearby hotel.

"Though I guess I'm not your personal preference by the way you're speechless right now. Is that it?" Jordan asked a little confused as her facial expression changed to a pouting face as she made herself present in front of the girl, squatting down, and meeting her gaze so they were on the same level.
PostPosted: Sat Jun 14, 2014 6:46 am

Chris shook her head. "I don't have a personal preference," she told Jordan. And she meant it. She would have reacted like this no matter who was handing her the papers. Chris could tell, though, that Jordan was disappointed in her reaction, and although she felt bad that she couldn't reciprocate Jordan's excitement, she just... couldn't wrap her head around this. "It's just a lot to process," she told Jordan, trying to emphasize the fact that it was more about the situation and less about Jordan herself. "I wasn't given any kind of warning."

Chris had been prepared to live the rest of her life alone in this house. In her grief, being alone had seemed like the most comfortable way she could spend her days. But now she had a roommate--no, a guardian. It was a huge interruption to her mourning process. Maybe there was a silver lining, though. Maybe her mother had anticipated that Chris would feel this way and had asked Jordan to watch over her so Chris wouldn't forever wallow in her misery. Ugh, that woman. For everything that wasn't rational about Elaine, she had some very rational tendencies.

"Are you moving in today, then?" Chris asked. "I guess you would get the master bedroom, then, if you're the... head of the household."

Jordan looked at her bag, "That is as much as I'm moving in. I move around way too much, so I've never really lived in a house. Business trips requires mobility." She explained as she stood up and looked back over to Chris. "Just a lot of clothes, a laptop, chargers, and a phone." She said as she pulled it out her Iphone 5 in a black case. She looked at the screen as it it went off before ignoring it and putting it back in her pocket. "But yeah, I'll just take the master bedroom then."

She made her way to the bag and hoisted the slang over her shoulder. She was making her way to the stairs before stopping. She wanted to comfort Chris as best as she could, but didn't really know how to at the moment. "I'll be upstairs if you need me." She said as she climbed up the stairs to the last door on the left. She looked at Chris from over the wooden railing before entering the bedroom and shutting the door behind her.

She didn't look around too much as she was feeling slightly drowsy and fell onto the bed. She grabbed a pillow and tucked it under her head before falling asleep.
PostPosted: Sat Jun 14, 2014 9:02 pm

After Jordan went upstairs to sleep, Chris took some more time to process everything. Mom, what were you thinking? She leaned back in the chair, eyes raising to the ceiling. She had never really interacted with Jordan one on one, and so she didn't know much about her, but now, she supposed, she was going to have all of the time in the world. Her guardian... Wow. This was going to be interesting.

Feeling a little guilty for the way she reacted to the news, Chris decided to do something to show Jordan it wasn't completely personal: she went to the grocery store for the first time since her mother passed. She picked up some basic things, like milk and eggs, and also some items for dinner. Then, returning home, she worked on putting together a meal while also cleaning out the fridge. (It wasn't looking so fresh these days.) In the end, when suppertime rolled around, she had a platter of hamburgers and french fries prepared. But wait, what if Jordan was a vegetarian? Well, it was too late for that now, and, anyway, Chris was pretty sure she wasn't. Placing both girls' plates of food and a selection of toppings onto a tray, Chris headed upstairs.

She knocked lightly on the door, balancing the tray with her raised knee. "Hey, Jordan?" she called. "I made us some dinner. I know you said you haven't had a real meal in a while... I hope you like hamburgers."

Jordan was tossing around in her sleep with a face of disgruntlement. She was having a dream again of Alpha. These were becoming a recurring thing nowadays with visions on Elaine riddled bullets along her body. Her mentor was laying in her arms, "I'm sorry. . ." She whimpered in her sleep. Elaine was laying there, tears streaming down her face, blood on her cheeks, face pale. Beta could even hear the gunshots firing off around her.

She was beginning to panic when she could hear a sudden knocking arousing from her sleep. She shot up out of the bed and looked around the room where the knocking was coming from. She looked at her phone for the time, "5:35. . ." she mumbled before getting out of the bed and heading to the entrance to her new room. Her car ride here must have really worn her out more than she expected. She did pull an all nighter to get here

She opened the door and looked at Chris with a worn out look on her face. "Hey. . ." she said rubbing the back of her neck. She looked down at the tray as it was about to fall off of her knee. "Woah, easy there!" Jordan chuckled as she caught the tray as it was ready to tip over. "You did this all on your own? You didn't have to." She said still in a stupor from her slumber. Those burgers were smelling amazing though and her stomach wasn't afraid to make some noise at the sight of them. "T-though I shouldn't refuse a good meal. Thanks Chris. Come on in.." She encouraged as she opened the door so she could get the tray and the lass into the room.
PostPosted: Sun Jun 15, 2014 9:56 pm

Chris smiled appreciatively when Jordan arrived just in time to help her with the tray. Taking the tray back and smiling, she walked in and settled onto the bed. She hadn't told Jordan, but Chris had been sleeping in her mother's room since the woman's funeral. She had kept her stuff in her own room, however, so aside from the stray shirt, you couldn't even tell. Guess I'm going to have to move back in. It felt weird. She wasn't sure how she was going to react when the reality that this was now Jordan's space sunk in.

"Are you going to, uh... change things around?" she asked as she looked around the all-too familiar room, losing her appetite at the thought.

Jordan smirked at Chris as she showed some concern for the arrangement of her mom's room. "If it upsets you, I won't. Besides I don't have the heart to get rid of things belonging to Elaine so soon. I'm not ready to forget a friend" She laughed as she sat back down on the bed. She took a quick glimpse around the room

Elaine's room wasn't a really big room, but that probably only looked that way since the king bed was in the center of the room..To the left of the bed, next to the door, was a mahogany dresser with six drawers stack in two columns of three. On the wall in front of the bed was a 32' inch flatscreen over top of a glass TV stand. In the right corner was the master bathroom which she hadn't walked in yet. To the right was the closet which she could tell was a walk-in with a sliding door. All together it was a nice layout of the room.

"Hell, I don't even care if you want to come in when I'm around. This place is more your place than mine. When I was laying down it definitely didn't have that smell of Elaine's strong, lasting perfume she always has on. Somebody else has been been in here." Beta hinted as she looked over at Chris. "Want to talk?" She asked trying to be a Guardian and a friend for Chris.
