She walked up the drive to their home. She herself didn't own a car, and she usually walked almost everywhere she went. Sometimes, she'd take a bus or a cab. Usually that was only in cases of rain or extreme weather. Since the weather was rather agreeable, she had made the journey on foot as she normally would. She didn't realize just how much further away he lived till then. It had seemed a shorter distance when she was quick to wanna flee there after feeling embarrassed the night he rescued her from herself.

She carried a small paper boutique bag that had the items she was given to wear cleaned, pressed and folded inside. There was also a little card and a stack of small personal individual mini pies. They looked like your typical pie, but they were only big enough for three bites at the most. She came wearing a sundress. It wasn't see through, and it went to her knees. This was the best she could do in an attempt to keep it somewhat modest. Modesty was so not her thing, but she was finding she hadn't given up in her heart on winning him over to be his most favorite person. She had considered it.

That rescue had her thoroughly embarrassed. She was seriously through with the idea that he might ever think well of her. Sure, he seemed to be putting on a very polite front, but she was sure she'd never be his favorite. Well, after a week, she had stopped thinking like that. Thinking such consistent negative defeated thoughts just weren't her style. She was bodacious in most if not all ways. She would just find a way to move past it.

Earlier in the week, she had sent him a text to ask him what his schedule was like. He was supposed to be off today. As she finally made it up to the house, she hoped she hadn't come here for nothing. She put on her million bucks charming Cherry smile. She rang the doorbell. She hummed a song to herself.

Graceangel
Xander was indeed off today, he was getting ready to go for a swim in the pool, so when he came to the door it was with long curly locks free and wearing swim trunks. "Hello," he said opening the door and giving Cerise a smile, "I was just about to go for a swim. Sorry I didn't know you were coming right now. Did you call me ..." he said looking around wondering just what he had done with his phone. He opened the door wider to Cerise and turned to go find his phone, disappearing up the stairs.

"Come in, I'll be right back in just a few moments," he said as he disappeared from view completely hurrying down the upstairs hall and into his room where he was pretty sure he left his cell phone charging on his desk. Grabbing it, he looked at it and frowned at the amount of messages that appeared on his screen. People really seemed to want his attention today.

He headed back downstairs after a moment, sure that Cerise could hear his footfalls on the steps.

Quote:
Oh ho... Mr. Modest came to the door in his swim wear. She had forgotten they had their own pool. She didn't know anyone else who had one, so it was a small detail that had slipped from her memory in the rush of so many other things she was avoiding recalling from that. As she walked in, her eyes roamed around refreshing her memory of them. This place just amazed her. Even Richard's loft for as nice as it was wasn't this grand. She felt a pang of envy in her heart. Why couldn't she live somewhere like this? So lucky.

Was he going swimming? Ugh. Too bad she didn't know or come dressed for it. If she went swimming, it'd give her an excuse to wear little. He didn't seem to give her a hard time about wearing a bikini at the pool that one time. Then, she recalled him insisting that she shouldn't be saying things like she'd take her panties off for him. That was something he thought was special. She would just have to do her best to hide that part of herself from him as much as possible.

She stood there in the room at the bottom of the stairs facing away looking at the doorways in the room. When the sound of his steps touched her ears, she turned her head back and looked up at him. In front of her, her fingers still clutching the bag. "Hope I'm not disturbing you, but I brought these back. Also... I didn't call or come see you much for a week. This is ok. Right?"

Quote:
Xander gave a smile and a nod, "It's fine. I don't mind a little company. You company is always appreciated. I was going to go for a swim. You didn't bring a swim suit did you?" He held his hand out for the bag, not realizing, she's brought back the clothes he said she could keep. He would be happy and surprised by the pies because nice snack sized pie were never not appreciated especially when they tasted like Cerise's.

He walked down the hall, past the ballet, music, dining, and living rooms and headed into the kitchen, going straight to the refrigerator and opening it. He turned to Cerise, "Would you like something to drink or a snack. The cook, made a few chicken salad wraps for lunch that are really good. Sal really makes everything so delicious, though you're pies are better than his. Don't tell him I said that, if you ever meet him."

He grinned pulling out a water for himself and waiting for an answer from Cerise.

Quote:
She had followed behind him. "Well, No. I didn't bring anything for swimming. If someone had answered his phone or replied to a text; I might have known." She teased. Then, she grew a little nervous his good nature would end up actually feeling guilty about it, so she quickly added, "Just teasing." Then, she followed him into the kitchen. "Yeah. I'm not too hungry right now. Just water is good." She stood there debating on saying something scandalous. One was something about she's fine with swimming without a suit. Or, she could just so in her bra and panties. That's almost just like a bikini. Knowing him, he'd get all frowns town on her. She nibbled her bottom lip to stop herself from saying that part. If he were anyone else, her clothes would likely puddle on the floor, and she'd just go swim in her buff. Xander though.... tsk, tsk. "Is it safe to assume me swimming in the nude is out of the question?" Then, she laughed one of those 'gotcha totally kidding' sort of laughs. Only, she was only joking as so far as to make him not think she was serious even though she really was.

Quote:
Xander gave a little frown at her statement until she said she was joking and he just gave her a smile and apologized anyway, "Sorry I left my phone upstairs on the charger this morning. I have a lot of messages from people, but it can't be helped. Doesn't look like anything too important."

He pulled out a water for Cerise and handed it to her before leaning against the counter and taking a sip of his own drink before straightening up and coughing as Cerise made a joke of sort, which he completely did not get. He face turned as red as his hair and she shook his head in the negative, "It's pretty safe to assume that skinning dipping is out of the question, if that is what you are asking."

His face remained red even as he pointed to the hallway, "It you want to swim, they are swim suits in the closet upstairs. Same room you got the clothes from last time, or I guess you can swim in you sundress, but that might not be very comfortable." However as long as didn't swim in the nude Xander would be happy.

Quote:
Her eyes stalked the frown on his face. She hoped her own missed calls weren't something to be grouped with 'not important', but she was behaving as best she could. She unscrewed the cap off the bottle of water and sipped at it in a most lady like sort of way. The drinking was more of a going through the motions to seem and feel busying doing something.

It was such a curiosity to her. Someone the same age as her who got so red in the face about being naked. She thought back to the big deal about if she took her panties off for him. She sipped at her water some more as her eyes flickered with the contemplation. She arrived at previous conclusion she made before. This guy has to be a virgin. That was the only answer to why he'd be like that, but that itself was a mystery. Obviously he was pretty adorable. Girls at the pool liked him.

Rather then just blurt out something stupid, she smiled. "Ok. I'll go see." She disappeared up there to go find a suit. She stood there looking at them. If she weren't such a prideful woman, she'd happily be willing to accept most of these clothes if he had wanted her to have them. Still, she had the knowledge these belonged to one sister. The other sister knew what the other bought. If she happened by while Cherry was visiting, Cherry would talk to her about the two of them having lunch and going shopping.

Picking one out, she pulled her dress off over her head and laid it out across the foot of the bed. Her undergarments quickly following and laid together next to it. She did take a quick moment to relish being naked as she did quite enjoy her own nakedness a great deal. If only there were a mirror. Oh snap. There was! Duh, Cherry. Of course, in a house like this. She went and stood a moment admiring her body before pulling the bottoms on and securing the top around her ladies. The bottoms fit perfectly. The top was a little snug. Cherry's ladies were a little busty for the size, but she kept adjusting the straps to make it easier.

Finally, she realized that 2 piece wasn't happening, but she found this white number that was almost as good. She was able to get her boobs tucked in at least enough to cover up her nipples. She giggled mischievously to herself. Was Mr Oblivious so unaware that he'd miss that? She made her way back down stairs with her long mahogany tresses flowing behind her. "Xan.... I wanna ask you something. Will you hate that?" Maybe he would hate that. He didn't like calling her by a nick name.

Xander just waited for Cerise to finish getting dressed for the pool, rather happy that he wasn’t going to have to give up his swim, not that he would really mind all too much. It wasn’t like he had that many friends or hung out very often, so it was nice be able to. He was getting use to this being social thing. Even the nurses at work were commenting on how he seemed to have changed over the year, even though sometimes they still made him a little uncomfortable.

He looked up hearing Cerise call him and noted that unfortunately the swimsuit didn’t fit perfectly, but it covered enough, so he wasn’t going to complain, even if he could see more than he would like to see at the current moment in time. He, however, had long ago accepted that swimsuits were often anything but modest.

“Sure, you can ask me something,” he said motioning for her to follow him out the kitchen doors, onto the path that led to the pool, “I won’t hate it. It’s just a question, right?” He gave her a smile and continued down the length of the house, until the pool house was in view, further down the path and across the sprawling lawn.

“It’s just over there,” he said, “I showed you it last time, right?”

Quote:
She laughed lightly. “Um. I didn’t mean will you hate a question. I wasn’t sure if you’d hate me calling you Xan. I notice that you only ever call me by my actual proper name, so I wasn’t sure if you’d hate being called by a nick name. You didn’t like that I called you cute either.” She followed along catching up quickly. Her eyes looked over the grounds. Damn. This place was really big. So big. Geez. Half her neighborhood could fit inside here. In part, it stirred her pride up even more. Deep down, she felt completely envious. How incredible he lived someplace like this. She wanted to live some place like this. It appealed to her not so much on grounds of greed so much as pride. Her ever feasting parasite of hubris she had.

“Oh. I think you did show me, but it never hurts to revisit something more than once. I’ve heard sometimes it can take a person hearing a thing up to seven times before they permanently remember it.” She clutched the water bottle she had remembered to grab on their way out the door. As they reached the pool, she wondered if they had towels in the pool house. From the outside, it looked almost like a small house in its own right. “Well… it is just a question. Two really. Sort of. They are very personal, so you might hate it. If you feel like you don’t know me well enough to answer. You don’t have to. If you decline to answer me, then you will need to tell me something else about yourself that is a secret or something not many people know about though.”

She didn’t want to just up and ask him out loud. She walked closer to the pool. Maybe she should near him in the pool and then ask.

Quote:
Xander looked at Cerise and gave a little laugh, “oh sorry. No I do not mind the nickname. I always call you Cerise, because its a very nice name and its just the proper thing to do. If you would prefer if I called you Cherry I can, but Cerise is a very nice name.”

He continued across the path right up to the pool house opening the door and heading in. Off to the side was a nice sized hot tub and the other side was a bar or sorts, off to the right were bathroom with changing areas and showers. About three feet beyond the bar and hot tub was the pool which extended to the back of the pool house going from about 3ft deep to about 8ft. Lounge chairs lined each side of the pool for them to relax in, when they were done swimming.

He chuckled again and shook his head, “don’t worry, I’m sure it will be fine, go ahead and ask your question. I warn you though, I don’t have many secrets, so if I can’t answer the secret might be a little boring.” He walked over the other towel station that sat between the two bathrooms, picking one up and dropping it on a chair, before kicking his flip flops under it.

Quote:
She smiled away when he laughed. That was a relief. While that was such a small little thing, it was enough that fed the idea of wanting to be his favorite person. “I don’t really have a preference for what you call me. You can call me whatever you want.” Proper thing to do. She would have snorted at that, but that’d be rude. “Oh my friend. You might be proper to a fault just about. Ah well, what can you do. We can only be who we are, right?”

Her envy deepened as she meandered around that pool building. It was so unfair. She wanted to live someplace like this. So much. A tiny feeling even deeper than that hatched a new feeling of being willing to do anything and everything it took to make that happen. Not necessarily here, but she would want something like this. A big house and fancy pools. A hot tub? Oh. She was so going in that before she left.

She sat on the edge of the 8 ft line of the pool. She looked at him a moment and then slipped in. She touched down at the bottom and came back up. Once back up, she twisted her now wet hair and tied it in a knot. She swam over to where he was. “I am not good with finding a more…. subtle way to ask you this. I guess subtly just really isn’t my thing anyways. I’m a fairly blatant person. “ She smiled and took a breath as she went in to ask. “Have you ever kissed anyone? Like… really kissed someone?” She was going to ask him if he was a virgin. She stopped herself because she felt like if he was; that might be a little mean to make him tell her that to her face. Most guys she had ever known would have rather been dead than admit to a pretty girl that they never been with a girl. She didn’t want to do that to him. This was sort of the same thing, but it was a little further out. Admitting to not kissing someone was like admitting all of it.

Quote:
Xander gave a nod, knowing he would likely continue to call her Cerise, maybe one day that would change, but today wasn’t that day. It wasn’t that he didn’t do nicknames, he did, he called Liliana, Lily and Songbird, it was just that he was proper and he liked what he liked. If Cerise would have said she preferred Cherry, he would have changed to that thought to be polite. He laughed again, “Yes, that may be, but most people can say they never expect me to be rude or inappropriate, so that’s something at least.”

While Cerise swam over he quickly went to get a hair tie having seen her ties her’s up. He had still yet to get a haircut, more for be busy and lacking the desire or energy to actually go get it done, than anything else. So his curls still fell around his waist and needed to be tied up, though he wondered if maybe braiding it would be better.

He sat on the edge of the pool watching Cerise as she came out of the water and nodding when she started speaking. He could see how she could be blatant, being around her enough and he waited for her question. It was a simple one that he didn’t at all mind answered, he didn’t even blush as he admitted, “no I’ve never kissed anyone before. Had not reason really. I’ve not dated or even had a crush I don’t think. I’ve always been overly focused on my education and career everything else just sort of fell off. It will happen, when it happens.”

He went about quickly braiding up his hair and securing it with a hair tie before slipping into the pool himself, going under for a bit before coming back up and floating on his back. “I love the water.”

Quote:
Her eyes just observed him with a rather incredulous look. The way he just said all that matter of fact like. The way it was just so nonplussed. “Really? That’s just…” She sunk down in the water till it was around her nose. She looked around thinking of a way to say what she wanted to say. “unusual. I mean.. Lots of people go through medical school and higher education and still end up marrying and having big families before their done.” Though really, the fact he hadn’t kissed anyone wasn’t quite as surprising. His responses to some of our outrageous comments had made her curious to ask that. “so… do you feel like you need a reason to? Like… sometimes it’s fun or nice to do things for the sake of doing them. Like…”

She thought about a scenario that might make sense. With her eyes on him keen almost like a predator on the hunt, she watched him. “Like, let’s say you walk into one of those Thirty One Flavor ice cream parlors. When you go there, you usually almost always end up getting one of two flavors, BUUUUTTTTT….. sometimes, you walk in and they have these new curious flavors. Like… maybe something sugar free. or low fat. you think… ugh. That probably tastes only like … a third like regular or REAL ice cream. So,you ask if you can have a free sample. Sometimes, they’ll have something like birthday cake or Reese’s Cups. You try those to see if maybe it’s good enough to make you deviate from your normal palette. Maybe the raspberry sorbet is actually really freaking fantastic. Maybe you think, ‘Hey, if I get this instead of my normal death by chocolate; I’d be eating way less calories. Not to mention sugar free is probably healthier. And.. it’s exciting to try something different.’ You try all these different flavors.”

She pauses and watching him and then continues. “There isn’t anything wrong with liking to try something. What if you bought a flavor of strawberry cheesecake. Only when you’ve taken a few bites, you realize it’s way too rich of a flavor. You can’t possibly eat a full cone’s worth, but you already spent your money on it.” Maybe he wouldn’t understand that part. Someone who’s grown up in the lap of luxury would probably just throw it out and order something they like better. She sighed at that wondering. “Sometimes, you never know if you’ll like something if you don’t try it. Who says you have to buy the whole cone to try it? And…. kissing is like tasting small spoonfuls of ice cream.”

She winced a little inwardly once she had finished. Maybe she had overplayed that. Still.Maybe she wasn’t supporting the idea of that. Maybe it was also propping up the other aspects of her.

Quote:
Xander hadn’t been embarrassed when he made the statement, but Cerise sure made him feel like he should be. Maybe it was uncommon, but he didn’t think that was necessarily a bad thing. He floated thinking on it before she asked if he felt like he needed a reason. Did he? Yes, he thought, he wanted to really care about the first person he kissed, and he wanted it to be romantic or even spontaneous. He didn’t really know, but for sure it was who he kissed that matter.

He listened as she spoke about ice cream and trying flavors and what not losing him as she tried to make an analogy that he whole didn’t understand at the first part of her explanation. It wasn’t until she got to the end of the explanation that he understood what she was talking about and he stood up in the water.

“I don’t think you should just go around kissing people because you feel like it, im mean outside of your family or significant other. It’s suppose to mean something right? Its like an endearment, like kissing your child on the forehead. You don’t go around just kissing people on the forehead just because. It’s not like I plan for the first kiss I ever have to be at the altar, but I wouldn't just go um … make out … with the girl at the … um bar.”

He thought that was what she was talking about or something to that effect. He wondered briefly if she was trying to convince him because she wanted to kiss him, but he pushed the thought from his head. He doubted it, it seemed an innocent enough question that sparked more curiosity.

Xander ducked under the water and kicking off and gliding through the water to the 8ft end and coming back up. He again floated on his back for a second before backstroking back to where Cerise was.

Quote:
There were obviously just some things they didn’t see eye to eye on. Modesty levels of clothes. Who you kissed or why seemed to now also be another. She genuinely listened to his side of things though. She was feeling out this side of him. It was the aspect of people she knew how to relate to best. After all, she really just didn’t know how to interact with people if it didn’t involve anything promiscuous at all. She could count her close friends on probably one hand, and acquaintances on the other. All her close friends were people she had at least kissed or more.

She treaded some water before floating around on her back feeling the water funnel into her ears and wet around her skin. The skin that was previously in the water meeting the air above the water. She found that sensation on her skin to be exciting. She moved her head to listen to this little chastisement. “Well, that’s very romantic and all Xander, and I’m sure that’s one way to see what a kiss can be. I don’t think it necessarily needs to mean anything to everyone. A kiss isn’t like…. “

She stopped. Well, yeah…. All the things she’d even bother to compare it to as something to do with a significant other. She already did those with several others. Though she had to conceded on some level maybe it wasn’t something she did with just everyone. Most of the people she enjoyed kissing were friends at least or favored friends with benefits. She didn’t always get into the nitty gritties with people the first time upon meeting them either. Though her reason for that was people often looked a different person in the daylight. She wanted to be sure the people she was entangling with were people she felt comfortable with. The ones she was especially comfortable with were frequent stops in her life as a rolling stone.

“Kisses don’t have to mean that you love someone or are in love with them. Even with that, you know it’s entirely possible to love someone enough to want to kiss them, and yet you aren’t at all in love with them. You would never marry them.”

The thing about that statement there was it was laden with one of her deeper issues. Commitment. The very idea of marrying or settling down with one single person; it was preposterous. That was like right up there next to her parents wanting her to give them grandchildren. She was just too full of herself to open up room for other people in that way. Not to mention, getting into a level of emotional involvement to get to that place. That was more closer to the heart of her problems. She wasn’t at all willing to put her heart on the line. She was rarely even willing to open up and make herself vulnerable for people to see anything beyond the surface or what she wanted them to see.

“Look… I’m just saying. I could never even think or consider someone the kind of person I’d consider marriage material if they couldn’t kiss me before we were married. That’s ridiculous. I live life in the moment. Tomorrow isn’t promised to anyone. If you look around this town, crazy stuff is going down all the time. People seem to go missing by the dozens. You can’t just assume you’ll have forever to see, hear, taste, touch, and feel everything there is to be. You have to do it right then while it’s in front of you. That way if this crazy s**t that goes on happens to be your turn. You can meet it with no regrets about all the things you never had in life. I’m a sensual person. I love experiencing life through my senses. Touch is really an important one. Kissing is part of that, but I can see what you mean. It’d be your first. You wouldn’t want that to be someone else’s after thought. I just think you’re overthinking what it should mean. You probably do that out of a lack of experience.”

Dammit, Cherry. Just…. stop talking. Yup. Gonna stop talking. She might have put her foot in it right then, but that was too late. She’d just shut herself up before she said worse things. Revealing the lurking temptress that hid inside her. That person who relished happenings just because they were inappropriate.

Quote:
Xander frowned at Cerise who seemingly brushed off his sentiments, standing in the pool, though he had been floating before. He was a bit old fashioned, he knew it, if thrown to the sharks in this day and age, if he stepped outside his bubble then he’d likely be gobbled up whole. Kissing just looked very personal. Until that moment he hadn't even really thought about it, but it seemed very obvious to him the Cerise had definitely kissed someone before.

Her words stop and Xander sort of just watched her float around until she started to speak again, so much talk about kissing. It was making him a little uncomfortable in the moment, a very unsure feeling of being back in a corner so to speak. It felt sort of like a dare, in a way.

“I know that,” he said a little dead pan, feeling like a teenage, “but …” He didn’t really know what to add to the but and as she continued on having never been confronted so boldly about his beliefs before and hearing the truth in her words about Destiny City. Doubt settled in, if only just a little? Was he being ridiculous? He fought in that war, that night time menagerie of teens and young adult fighting for the earth, or something. If he died tomorrow, would he regret never having kissed someone, loved someone, touched them in an intimate way.

After a moment he shook his head, he honestly wasn’t sure, but he didn’t think he would. Still watching Cerise floating in the pool he wondered if he should just go ahead and kiss her. Would she even be okay with that? Seemed like she would. Xander though shook the thought from his head and just smiled and walked over to Cherry and touched her cheek lightly. He pushed the doubt from his mind after a few moment, he was who he was and she was who she was and that was just it.

“It will happen when it happens, be it tomorrow or never. It’s not that big of a deal if it never happens. If I die tomorrow not knowing what I missed maybe I’d learn for the next life time. I’m here now and I’ve still got time and right now I just want to swim.”

He fell back into the water, surely splashing Cerise and came back up laughing, trying to swim away before she had the chance to return the favor.

Quote:
She felt a little unsure. The initial quietness followed by that dead pan answer. She hoped that she wasn’t overstepping and pushing this guy too far. Already she knew of him that he was just a genuinely nice person. While she kept feeling this need to acquaint herself with him the way she knew how to connect with people. It was testing his boundaries. Learning how he is by the way he responds to various stimuli, or by the way he answers his questions. Then, there he was. The look on his face, the touch on her cheek.

She felt like they were suddenly on the brink of something that itself was a little different and unique from others like it. Whoa. Truth was she had been considering the possibility of going up and kissing him. Just because she felt like it was a shame someone so amazing had gone his whole life unkissed. Xander was a nice guy, and there was no reason he needed to become his own version of the 40 year old virgin.

Then, when he didn’t, and she heard his reply. How could she argue with that? Still, the touch on her face made muscles in her back unrelax. Suddenly she started sinking, and water rushing up her nose. She stood up quickly and coughed a time or two. She quickly shook and wiped the water out of her face. Then, she turned her head with a diabolical grin. “Oh. You didn’t…” She then moved into the water most shark like looking for a good spot to get him back with.

Another thought then slipped in her head. This had been going rather well. She didn’t want to press her luck, but dammit, she just couldn’t help herself. She narrowed in and swimming a close and narrow circle around him surfaced. “Ok. Lemme ask you this then. Whenever I come to find you. I by some amazingly good stroke of luck find you. But…when i met you by the pool, you were by yourself. Whenever I see you, you’re by yourself. Can I ask you why that is? Are you a lone wolf type? Just someone who likes being left alone? Cuz you know… if you are… you don’t have to humor me by letting me stick around and bother you. I’m an only child, so it’s in my nature to seek people out. I will hang around people till they get sick of me and make me leave. That doesn’t mean that I have the right to ruin your days off if you’d rather not see me.”

Even though it was another heavy thing to ask him about, she followed it up with another circle around him. He was so unlike any of the other guys she associated with. He was both seemingly difficult and easy at the same time. It was confusing. Yet, she couldn’t resist the draw. The pull like a moth to the flame. Deeper still, a part of her wondered if she better stop trying to navigate into parts of his mind most people would have the decency to leave untread. It might result in some reciprocal need to open up herself and reveal aspects of her own nature. Because she was full of secrets and tales. She was a dirty bird, and there were at least several handfuls of stories she wasn’t prepared for him to hear at all.

Xander couldn’t help but to laugh as he swam away which made swimming a little hard so of course she caught up to him and circles around him. He flipped over to float on his back when it seemed that she would try to return the favor of his splashing her really good. It seemed he wasn’t free of her question and was slightly reluctant to answer because the simple kiss question became anything up simple. He was very extremely tempted to lie, but it was obvious to him that Cerise would be around and he rather not get caught in the lie. Lie when its worth it, right now its not.

“Well, to be honest, I’ve never really had any friends. Not really friends, sure I had people I would study with and do projects with for class, but we never hung out. It’s really recently I’ve made actual friends who want to hang out with me and people like you who seem to be trying to understand me. I’m not a social butterfly, like my sisters. I didn’t get that gene. All this, even having a conversation outside of family and school, just socially is not something I’m very use to. That’s changing though and I want it to.”

He stood in the water and walked over to Cerise before opening his arms and giving her a hug. “I don’t mind if you come over and bug me, so to speak. I’m happy to have you as a friend, even if we don’t always agree on things. You’re nice.” He let go and smooth her hair giving her a smile, that was probably obvious people didn’t see very often. A looser, softer Xander, who wasn’t a doctor, or a knight, or a big brother, just an ordinary guy.

“You hungry yet?”

Quote:
Earnest, so earnest. It had been a rare thing in her life to just stand there like this with someone and have such meaningful conversations. Blisteringly ironic that she had so many profound questions for other people when she herself almost never humbled herself to be vulnerable and open up to others. Some people built fences and walls around them. She was a goddam fortress, and her ability to thick skin herself from being hurt by others. It was a force to be reckoned with. Yet, here she was. They were just curiosities springing up. She just wanted to know.

Sure, she had started in with the kiss question more as to shock and have some fun with him. This other question about him being alone and stuff. For some reason, that seemed rather sad to her. To be surrounded by people, and yet to never feel like you were connecting with anyone. She herself longed for connections. With everyone she met. People who she couldn’t connect with; she resented those people as if they were on purpose despising her. While many might not actually despise her at all, she always took it that way. You either loved her or hated her. Though she sometimes was generous to give people a grace period to get to know her enough to determine which was which.

“You’re nice.” Somewhere in that fortress of solitude, her conscience smote her against a cold hard wall. She actually was more selfish than she was nice. If she were completely honest, she was only nice in the way that she was pleasant and diplomatic at almost all times with others. Still, that resounding feeling of him wanting her there. It was enough. Her eyes dilated as she felt deeply appeased. “And, you are even nicer than I am. I like you, Xander. I appreciate your agreeing to disagree with me in things we don’t see eye to eye on. That’s actually really grown up of you.”

Hungry? Not really, but she was happy enough with him at the moment to be more pliable and more of a pleasing sort of mode. “Um… maybe a little. Or… if you want me to be?” Was this about those wraps in the fridge? “Aw, but I was kind of hoping to use your hot tub before I left today.” She wasn’t sure where the hungry question was leading, but she wondered if she would be back here. Well… ok. Hot tubs didn’t have to happen like right this minute.

Anything he wanted to show her or take her to though. She couldn’t say no.

Xander smiled at little brighter, as he was complimented and thanked her for noticing. He was ever the gentleman with wonderful manner, so definitely couldn’t let the compliment or her appreciation go unthanked. He gave a small laugh when she answered the question about food, wondering if she was teasing him, but a little unsure. He looked to the hot tub when she mentioned it and nodded.

“We can definitely go for a soak in the hot tub. I love water and being in it, so I’ve no problems with that, but my stomach would like some food. All this question answering and slight debate has it rumbling.”

He moved to the side of the pool and climbed out before leaning over and holding a hand out to Cerise to help her out as well. “We can grab something really quick and come back and eat on one of the lounge chairs or at the bar then take a dip in the hot tub. The hot tub always makes me really relaxed so maybe we could watch a movie or play pool or air hockey or something till Im a little more alert and I can drive you home.”

He didn’t recall seeing another car when he opened the door, but he could have just overlooked it, still he offered to take her home either way. It was the right thing to do. “Shall we,” he said holding out his arm for Cerise to take so they could go get their snack.

All this polite gentleman like stuff. It was nice. It was cute, but it was totally like something new. Not that all the guys she saw were brutes or anything like that. It was just extra somethings she never felt was necessary. She was independent and didn’t mind doing for herself, but that might have played a role in her almighty fortress of self.

The promise of the hot tub and all the rest cinched it. “Ok.” Yup. It was just that easy. She was easy. She was usually pretty easy going. It really didn’t always have to just be about sex with everyone. That was just her box. It was her comfort zone, and she didn’t mind being adventurous and trying something else. If someone else had a game plan and invited her along, she was down to play. She grinned with a half blush and a quick look away at her questions making him hungry. “Um. Ok. Well, let’s go then. Is it ok for me to as you stuff like that?

She was thinking that hug was really warm. It felt a great deal more significant and profound than some of the things she did with her other friends. She felt surprised by that. She then gave him her hand to pull her up. When she was pulled up, she gazed at him with a moment of dumbfoundedness. She decided to not worry about going home yet.

Xander lead the way to the kitchen and was quick about grabbing a tray and putting a few things to eat on it, cheeses, the pies she made earlier, wraps, fruit, among those fruits were cherry’s which he figured she would like. He didn’t put too much not wanting either of them to get to full, he knew overeating could make one very sleepy and they were already going for a dip in hot tub. He grabbed a Sobe for himself and looked to Cerise, “Do you want a water, juice or do you want to see what kind of wine is in the bar back at the pool?”

He didn’t intend to drink, but if she wanted to he thought a little wine wouldn’t hurt, it not like anyone else drank it. They had a nice variety and he figured maybe there might be something she would like. He waited for her answer then grabbed the tray motioning for Cerise to follow and headed back to the pool. It was truly is favorite place to be when he couldn’t or didn't feel up to the community pool.

He headed over to one of the lounge chairs placing tray on one and going to grab a little table to put the tray on. He sat down himself grabbing a few pieces of cheese and a couple of cherries and munching on them before he remembered her question, now that his mind wasn’t on food. “It’s fine if you ask me things like that. If I get too uncomfortable I will let you know, otherwise ask away. I assume you just want to get to know me better right? Do you mind if I ask you questions?”

Quote:
She followed in what was almost an orbit like following. When asked what she wanted, she thought about it. Sometimes she did water, tea, iced tea, and then drinks were a category all alone. The fact he would be ok with her having something like that; she figured she better take advantage. He was so concerned and careful about everything. “Oh, if you have wine, I’ll take that. Something that’s like… somewhere in between white and red? Thin and light like white wine, but something with a sweeter flavor?” Was that too specific? She sometimes thought about going to wine tasting events just to see what she’d like. She watched him filling up the plates and moved in sync with him as they returned to the pool house. She sat down on the lounge chair next to where he set the tray. She took the smaller plate from him. She took a few pieces of fruit and just a few pieces of cheese.

“That sounds fair. You should always tell me when something I say or do bothers you. If I encroach something that’s a hard limit for you; just say so. I’m for the most part pretty uninhibited, so you really don’t have to be careful with me. Of course you can ask me questions.” Though she hoped he wouldn’t ask anything that required her to reveal the parts of herself she desperately didn’t want him to see. Those were several and terrible. She was pretty sure with him being so proper and concerned with things being just so. Too much of her was anything but just so. If he saw everything in her for just who she was; he might not like her at all. That thought was sobering and sad.

Still, even so, she repressed those thoughts and feelings. Seize the day and don’t worry about tomorrow. “Oh yes. I definitely want to get to know you better. Of course, I want to understand you. How could I call myself your friend while not really knowing you? Knowing a person is more than just where they live or their favorite color. It’s being familiar with how they answer things. It’s recognizing certain faces they make at certain subjects or their inability to not laugh at others. All those things are a part of knowing someone.”

She thought of something she had seen on her phone sent by someone. A little box that said friendship is like when you decide, “hey, i like this person”, and you just do stuff with them. She agreed. She eagerly applied that motto to everyone she cared to spend more than a day with.

Quote:
Xander listened to Cerise speak and for once he wholeheartedly agreed with her there wouldn't be any bumping heads on this subject, no because getting to know someone was definitely a part of friendship. He was learning true, real friendship a little late in life, but better late than never. He stood and headed over to the bar, putting another piece of cheese in his mouth as he walked. He went behind it stooping down and opening the bar cooler to look at the different wines there before selecting one he was sure he heard both his mother describing as sweet and it looked about what she described.

“You sound very wise when it comes to friendship. You must have a lot of friends. You seem like the type of person who would have a lot of friends around always.” He sat back down handing her the wine and a glass, before sipping his Sobe and taking a bit of the wrap. He figured he’d be satisfied once he finished the wrap. “I guess I should catch up to you with the question huh, I haven't really asked many.”

He thought on it for a moment while he munched on his wrap before a few questions came to mind, “let’s see. Well other than baking, which you are very good at, what are some of your other favorite pastimes or hobbies. I have got to many of them, but I like to play checkers, I swim and I play the piano.”

He took another bite of his wrap wanting to finish it off knowing that Cerise wanted to get into the hot tub and knowing that would make him so relaxed and a little sleepy.

Praise. The sound of it to her heart and soul were like music. He was always saying nice things. It was in her nature to respond to such things with touching and physical affection. People liked that. She knew how to do that. The nicer he was; it made her want to touch him. Not to be lewd or inappropriate. It was just to show her happiness with him. She was quite dysfunctional when it came to socializing properly. She did it, often and well. That didn’t mean it wasn’t full of lots of stuff he’d probably frown at or disapprove of.

She tucked a cherry inside her cheek. With her teeth and tongue, she separated the seed from inside moving the fruit part of it against her cheek wall. She sucked on the seed. When she had cleaned it, she gently pushed it out of her mouth and put it on her plate. Then, she savored the sweet and sugary cherry. “Mmmm…. Yes and no. I mean. I suppose I have plenty of friends. I don’t really hang out in groups of people though. Big swarms of people just isn’t my thing. It makes me feel like I lose my individuality. I hate that. As for hobbies, I also do some light photography. Nothing serious or hardcore though. My dad used to be a traveling professional photographer. That’s how he met my mom.” She would say picking up men. That was definitely a hobby, but she thought it better not to mention that. “I like to go dancing. That’s actually what I usually do at clubs. I was being totally serious and honest when I told you I don’t often actually get that drunk. Just enough to relax and unwind. Then, I dance the night away.”

She tried to think of anything else she did. “I guess shoes maybe? Like. I guess my income doesn’t really allow me massive shopping trips, but when I do go shopping. I just can’t go home without a pair of shoes. Especially boots. I like boots a lot.” There. That wasn’t so bad. She was telling of herself plenty without it being such a big deal.

Quote:
Xander finished off his wrap while she explained about her hobbies, noting that he believed her about the drinking thing and eventually found himself laughing because while Cerise was friends with him, he thought for sure she would get along with Rose and even Lily, though more Rose who loved to shop and just really loved fashion. Though both girls had literally tons of shoes. “Sound like you would fit in well with either of my sisters. Lily not a big shopper, Rose is, but I honestly cannot believe how many shoes they have. Women just have so many. I only have a few. I’m not a shopper for anything really.”

He got up and leaving the rest of the fruit and cheese on the plate, he was sated but not stuffed. He headed over to the controls for the hot tub and turned everything on, so it started bubbling up and the temperature of the water would rise a bit. They generally kept it pretty warm, but not too warm, so it would warm up to the desired temperature quickly.

He looked to Cerise momentarily watching her before testing the water and making sure everything was good. The hot tub got use, but not like the tub. He was sure the pool guy cleaned it, but he’d rather be safe than sorry. “I like the water a little warmer than usual, is that okay with you? I don’t want it to be too hot, I can turn it down if you need me too,” he said as he made his way back over to the chairs, “otherwise its all ready. If you’re done you can head in now. I’m going to go to the bathroom really quick, then I will be right back out.

Sisters. Being an only child, she had no concept of siblings. Since her father was a photographer, sometimes they’d move out of the city or even the states all together for a while. She had trouble maintaining enough connection, that she was always having to start over and make new friends. Because of this, she never had the kind of lifelong friends who were just as a good substitute for not having siblings of her own. She wondered about this Rose. That girl had an almost similar shape and liked similar things just in different colors. Cherry wondered about the younger sister though. She felt embarrassed to be seen by her or talk to her after feeling like she was a bit more under the microscope than she cared for. Still, she figured maybe with time and enough meets. That feeling might change or go away.

Her eyes followed him. For someone who had been so hungry, she thought he didn’t eat as much as she thought he would. She finished a piece of cheese. She set the plate down. She helped herself to a second glass of wine, and she brought it to the side of the hot tub. She set it on the edge, as she dipped her toe into the water. She hadn’t answered him, but she didn’t mind the hot water. She looked for a side that had one of the jets, and she slid down in front of it. Her eyes mellowed as a sigh perhaps a little vocal slipped out. That feeling of water jets on her lower back. Sooooo soothing. She wished she could get one of these at her parent’s house. That wasn’t so much an issue of affording as there was no where to put it. She just shuttered thoughts that were at all unpleasant. She just reached back to take the glass and sipped at it as she lifted her legs and let her toes peek up above the water. This. This was awesome. Were there better days than this?

She mused over the thoughts of which she knew right away he’d disapprove of. That’s why she just kept them to herself.

Xander came back out of the bathroom and went to join Cerise in the hot tub, slipping into the hot water and relaxing probably far more than she’d seen him relax since she met him. This had turned out to be a nice afternoon even if the kissing conversation had gotten him a little off kiltered. He gave a small sigh, leaning back and resting his head against the back of the hot tub.

“This is really the best way to unwind. I remember the first time I was ever in here. I’m pretty sure I feel asleep. My dad found me and he was scared because I was all warm and red, but I was just fine. I just always liked the water a little warmer.”

He gave a small laugh, “I must have looked like a lobster when he pulled me out and boy was I pouty after. I didn’t want to get out, but dad said, it not good to fall asleep in the hot tub.” I didn’t believe him, but I tried not to fall asleep again. He sighed again and sunk into the water up to his nose. Xander might as well have been a fish for how he was with water. He just like it, he’d been afraid to learn to swim he remember as a child, because he was so bad at every other ‘sport’ but he’d learned to swim and for him water was something of a haven. He slid all way under for a few moment before coming back up and relaxing on the side again. “I don’t do this very often,” he admitted.

Quote:
“You don’t use the hot tub very often or relax very often?” She thought that was a legitimate question given that he worked in a hospital. If she had to deal with people and witness people coming in with crazy injuries, she wasn’t sure she could really relax and unwind sometimes. “If I had a tub like this, I’d probably use it a lot. I’d put in a big tv up there, and I would sit in here and just chill.” And woohoo probably. Cherry was Cherry, and that was just what she did.

She listened to his story. She didn’t have any great stories like that. Her dad was always busy. She thought back to even the few years. “That’s a nice story. I’m sure the fact you had a family around you and nurtured you as you grew up probably contributes a lot to your good nature. “ It was these deeply earnest moments that made her feel practically villainous for just being around him. What she did have was time. She ended up with extra time to do nothing with more often then not. She filled with all those pleasant things she was known for. She felt somehow that when she was here or spending time with Xander; she was somehow becoming a better version of herself.

She slid over next to him. “I am going to come see you more. I like your stories. You are seriously possibly the nicest person I know. I’m sure you can feel relieved to know that if I’m here; then I’m not out somewhere getting into trouble.” In the not too distant future, that would become so much more true than either of them could even fathom.

Quote:
“Neither. It’s not easy to find time to relax with my life. I often have to be reminded to take a break and as my co workers say, actually be a young adult.” He smiled at Cerise and shook his head when she said she put up a tv, “we probably don’t have a t.v. in here for that reason. I dont think my parents wanted us in the hot tub just wasting away in front of the t.v., though the house is mine now, so I suppose I could do that. I won’t though, it peaceful and relaxing here without it. You know oddly we only have two televisions in the whole house.”

“You think? Thank you, my parents tried their very best to raise us right and I really think they did a good job. Coming where we come from and having all we have, we could have turned out a lot differently. This sort of life has the potential to really spoil a person, in a bad way. If and when I ever have children, I hope I can do as good a job.”

As Cerise slid over next to him he smiled feeling relaxed and just enjoying the moment, he turned his head to her and gave a nod. “That good to here. I could use more company or at the very least another person reminding me to relax a little and pie,” he said laughing a little at the last little bit. He was kidding of course, well mostly.

He leaned his head on her shoulder and gave a small yawn, clearly ready to just fall asleep where he was, probably making it very obvious why even if he loved the hot tub, he didn’t get in it very often. At least if he soaked in the tub, the water cooled off so he didn’t to relaxed and sleepy. He yawned again, “I should probably get out soon.”

Quote:
She couldn’t help but smile at him. “Awww… That’s just because you’re a hard worker. I’m sure you’re just trying to be sure you do your best.” She thought about that. Yeah. He was right. Almost anytime she had met wealthy people; you knew it right away. It was in everything they say and did. She didn’t even know this about Xander until she woke up in his house. Would she be able to remain so humble if she grew up with so much? Not likely. She already wasn’t humble without any of the trappings of wealth.

When he laid his head on her shoulder, she moved an arm around and started to lightly move his hair from hanging wet and around his ear and side of his face. She’d lay it down his back. Then, she just started to almost pet him. The way you might if you were holding a small child on your shoulder. It was an automatic motion she did without thinking. “Always pie for you, Xander. Always. You can have whatever you want.” That was meant more whimsical than it normally would mean coming from her. In truth, the effect of being here with him made her want to do whatever it was he wanted her to do.

“Yeah. I can see why you didn’t want to be in here on too full of a stomach.” She then thought that maybe they had better get out soon. If he kept leaning his head on her shoulder like that, she might not be able to resist the temptation to do things he wouldn’t like or would at least resent when he thought about it later.

“So how about that like.. watching a movie or something?” Gently, she pulled her arm back to herself and lifted up his head to scoot away and slip up onto the side of the tub. She sipped what was left of her wine.

Quote:
Cerise was right, Xander was always trying to do his best. And in his line of work, he couldn’t afford to do anything, but his best for it could cost someone their life. He gave a nod at her, but didn’t really respond or move from his spot of her shoulder. He didn’t even move or flinch at her moving his wet hair or the light petting, but instead seemed to relax more. The only clue that he wasn’t asleep was the smile he gave to the pie comment and the laugh in response to her statement about not wanting to be in here on a full stomach.

He opened an eye looking up at her when she suggested they go watch a movie or something and he nodded letting her move him and slip out of the hot tub. He lay back for a few seconds, not really wanting to get out himself, but knowing it would be rude to make his guest wait. He sighed and pulled himself out of the tub, going over to the pool and sort of just letting himself fall in and sink down before coming up, swimming to the other side and getting out. He felt slightly more awake then. He walked over to the towels handing one to Cerise and grabbing one for himself, drying his hair while he put on his flip flops. There were showers here, but neither of them brought clothes down so he figured showers could be had in the house before they went down stairs to the theater to watch a movie.

He gather up the tray and the uneaten food, putting his towel around his shoulders, “You can use the same bathroom for a shower, after you can pick whatever you like to watch from the collection or on netflix if you’d rather something there.” He closed the wine bottle and put it away before motioning for her to follow him out of the pool house. “Next time you come over, bring a swimsuit and you can leave it here for when you come over. That way you have it here when you need it.”

Quote:
When his back was turned, she frowned slightly. Inwardly, she felt extremely conflicted about staying at all. Mostly only because she was fighting hard the urges to do the sort of things she normally would with anyone at this point. Him resting his head on her just pushed her into the zone where everything had her motor running. She was at the disadvantage of never having been in a position to keep it to herself. She found this new and rather challenging. In fact, she had known if she hadn’t of gotten out of the pool. She would have certainly not been able to stop herself. The only thing keeping her on the straight and narrow was the slight glimmer of aspiration of winning him over to a point of being his favorite. Because as always with anyone, to not be their favorite was just like not being liked by them at all. She wasn’t content to just be someone a person knew. She had to have her pedestal to be enshrined on. Whenever she got to the point where she realized she couldn’t have that with a person, she’d move on and dedicate her time to someone else who would give her that.

It was still too soon to tell if that would happen with Xander, but she knew without a doubt. If she went into Cherry mode on him, that might never happen.

Though the comment from him to leave a suit there. That made her wish she could do more than just leave a suit here. She wished she could just live there, but since he was so proper and appropriate about everything. There would be no way he’d move her in. She did the only thing she could find within to do her. That was simply to agree and do exactly what he said. “Sure, Ok.”

She went up to shower, and then she put back on what she had worn over there to begin with. When she went down, she flicked through the netflix choices. All the while, she wondered if she should stay, or should she go. Decisions, decisions. It was so hard to do the right thing when you weren’t the kind of girl used to doing the right thing ever. She also knew that as badly as her wheels were spinning; she had to not ruin or tarnish whatever this was. This was perhaps the purest and brightest thing in her life. She had best to not ******** it up unless she inadvertently did so to a point of not being able to rehab it.

Quote:
Xander deposited the food in the kitchen and headed up to take a quick shower, lest the warm water make him more sleepy and relaxed than he already was. He put on some shorts on and a tshirt and headed down into the theater with Cerise, who was already seated and browsing netflix. He sat down next to her happy to left her pick and sort of praying her an action flick or he was going to be sleep. Either way he settled down to watch the movie.
