Every now and then, Alec ended up being stuck with a delivery he couldn't handle on his own. It worried him with his wanting to join the military, but his mother assured him several times so long as he did what he could before leaving she'd make do. There were always able bodies for hire in a town like Shiganshina. With his step father being away most of the time it meant the family had to bring in help regardless.
The Help Wanted sign went up front early that morning, anyone able bodied enough could make a Silver Marks for their trouble.
Still, Alec was busy tying the horse Narmadia to the wagon, ensuring the beast was properly secure. If nothing else, just having some one along for the ride would be nice. That and unloading the large crate already loaded in the wagon was a must. He simply couldn't lift it by himself even if he wanted, or tried. They were delicates, mostly dishware ordered from a family in Stohess. Supply Goods was situated within District 8, near down town. While the ride to the 16th District wasn't that far, it wasn't expected the crate bound for Wall Rose via the river canal would have anyone willing to assist the red head.
"There.." Alec brushed his hands off, satisfied the horse was properly tied down at least.

With him not quite being fully enlisted just yet, Shun still needed means to get food and the like. He didn't care for stealing too much, but it was sometimes a necessity. Begging, however, was completely out of the question. Once in awhile, a chance to earn some coin would arise. Jobs available for low lives such as himself were fairly limited, given how the likes of his kind generally weren't well trusted. For good reason too.
Sometimes that meant doing fairly... illicit deeds. Other times were just small but legit jobs.
For now, he wandered the streets, hands in his pockets while keeping an eye out for any opportunities. Eventually, he spotted a familiar face by a horse and wagon. Alec, if he recalled, who had been one of the more tolerable personnel he had met during the fiasco of a festival. It looked like he had a fair bit of cargo with him as well.
"You almost look like you're packing up to leave the district," he commented while moving on by.

Alec glanced up at the familiar voice, recognizing Shun on site. At first he'd been unsure what to think of him, but he'd stepped in and helped him. The fiery red head shook his head laughing a little at the observation. He still felt like he owed the older man, so maybe a chance at making coin in a legitimate fashion with no strings attached would suffice? Perhaps food as well, he was sure his mother would do something in the time they were gone.
"Not exactly, I have to make a really big delivery down into Distinct 14 down by the water...I can't lift the stupid crate by myself." He noted a touch sourly, tapping his boot against the object beside the wagon. "I tried earlier, best I can do is push it around but that'd suck if they all break and we have to reorder." He stepped closer to Shun, offering a hand out to shake. "You wouldn't be interested in making a couple silver marks would Shun?" He didn't exactly know Shun's situation but he'd over heard him talk about having had a hard life.
"I just need an extra set of hands, shouldn't take too long?" he inquired recalling Shun had been on barge hauling duty and seemed more than capable (permitting he was willing of course).

Shun's gaze drifted over towards the crate mentioned, curious what was in it now that caused it to weigh so much. Alec quickly grabbed his attention however, with his offer. His eyes widened for the moment and he wasn't sure if he had heard him correctly. An offer to make some coin was one thing, but payment often came in the form of bits and copper. Even in the rare times he was paid at least ten copper, it came as that, rather than turning it to silver. Silver was just kind of risky to carry around.
"Silver marks?" he repeated. Now he really was curious what was in the crate. But that wasn't really a huge deal. One or two silver marks would probably last him until he was able to move into the barracks, assuming he didn't end up losing the money somehow.
"You aren't pulling my leg, are you?" he asked warily. Alec didn't seem like the type, but he still had a bit of skepticism. It wasn't every day that he'd receive an offer like this.

"Yeah. 1 silver mark if that's fine? Its for a rich family, and if these break I'll have my a** handed to me." Noticing Shun's wide eye'd stare Alec rubbed the back of his neck a bit sheepishly. "Its just a bunch of dishes, mostly plates, glasses. They are all wrapped, just.." He sounded serious, shaking his head. The crate wasn't that much larger than either of them, it was just wide and awkward for wrapping ones arms around.
"If uh that's to risky carrying that kind of money around town, I can have mom break it up into bits and copper if that's easier." He replied calmly to Shun. It must have sounded a bit desperate, and he was on a time schedule. Yes he meant it, no he wasn't pulling his chain. It was a straight forward offer, take one side lift the damn thing. Hop in the wagon, deliver and return. Simple.
"I don't have much a choice, its on short notice and the ferry leaves at the end of the night." He quickly explained, trying to dispel the idea he wasn't being insincere. His family could afford to spend that kind of money, even in these times. They ran a business, and it paid to be prompt and make deliveries as requested for future prospects and dealings. Not to mention Shun wasn't exactly a stranger. The man seemed like he could get a job done, and not complain more than necessary.
Alec waited patiently, ready to hoist his half of the box if the other accepted his offer. Otherwise he'd have to make some ridiculous attempt that would result in failure, or find some one else.

"That's perfectly fine, and breaking it down would be preferable if possible," Shun replied while making his way closer. So Alec had a time limit. That explained a bit of his apparent desperation here. All in all, this seemed like a pretty good deal. The red head probably wouldn't try to rip him off later. If he did...
Well he'd take care of that if it came to that.
"Very well. I'll aid you."
The man rolled his shoulders and cracked his knuckles before making his way to the opposite side of the crate.
"On three, then?"

Alec wasn't stupid enough to try and rip some one like Shun off. Or anyone for that matter. Not that he had such thoughts, for a business man he was fairly trusting. It wasn't like he owned the franchise, but he'd had a hand in keeping the store running. On this particular matter he'd been entrusted by his mother to handle, and given a wage to work with.
It just happened to be Shun's lucky day. Being at the right place, at the right time. "Great! That's fine, we'll take care of it when we get back. You have my word." He nodded to the older dark haired man. Alec tilted his head at him curiously.
Rolling his shoulders he clenched his teeth taking his side and exhaling slowly to get ready for the lifting part. "One."
"Two." He tensed his arms, fingers gripping the box. "Three--?" He questioned. The wagon was close at least, and just needed them to have it lifted from the ground and walked onto the flat bed. Having the extra set of hands was a huge plus, and he was all the more grateful for the lack of further questioning from Shun.

wagon & horse. For the box is just small enough some one can sit with it, just to keep an eye on it/even if its strapped down i figure? while the other drives. (lol ignore the cowboy hat i dont even)

Shun nodded curtly in turn. He got himself into position and waited for Alec to make the count. Once three was said, he hoisted up his side of the crate. The box was heavier than he had expected, but he still managed, especially seeing how the red head was taking care of the other end.
He glanced over at the wagon for the moment, then back to Alec. Once he had a good hold of the box, he began to move towards the cart so that they could bring the package over to set in. The man made sure to not go too fast, lest he accidentally throw them both off balance and the crate spilling onto the ground. That would be bad.

As he felt the box lift, the red head quickly joined in picking the crate up. Determined not to be a burden Alec kept up, carefully shuffling along with the others pace he set. It made his arms tense and fingers and knuckles go white but that wasn't all that terrible. Thankfully the cart was easy to load, and soon the weight was relieved from both of their arms and set down securely into place. None broken goods was a plus. No sounds of shattering dishware was a relief.
Narmadia eye'd the human near her. The horse tossed her head also letting out a quiet little nicker, perhaps looking for attention. It was that or she was anxious to get going, the horse had no reason to be afraid of the dark haired man nor one of her owners. She was well cared for and trusting.
"Awesome, I'll grab some rope to tie down and we'll get going." Alec trotted up a small flight of stairs, leading into the family store. As he pulled the door open a bell rang. He left it open for the now, going about his tasks.
"Hey Shun. Have you had lunch yet? I'll grab you a sandwich otherwise like I'm doing?" Alec called out a bit muffled as he was inside grabbing a few things. Sandwiches and a water flasks would hopefully just have to do on short notice. It also sounded like he might have been explaining to some one inside they had help, and to take the sign out of the window.

Once the crate was in place, Shun stepped back, then glanced over to the horse as it let out a soft sound. He hadn't had a great deal of experience dealing with horses personally, so he wasn't sure what the vocalization could have meant. It didn't look like the beast was frightened or anything like that.
When Alec when to go grab some rope, he just stood by to keep an eye on the crate and whatnot.
"I have not," he answered. If the red head was going to offer food too, he wasn't about to turn it down. Free food was free food. Though, he supposed he was technically working for it this time around.
The man moved over towards the front of the cart, looking over the horse a little more closely.

When the dark haired man came closer the horse lowered her head and gave him a sort of gentle bump of its head against the human, nuzzling his hand. She was mostly dark brown, with a long white stripe down her muzzle, and white across most of her upper jaw. The contact was brief, but for his attentive curiosity the creature had properly greeted the other. Even if he didnt know much about horses, it didnt really matter to the friendly mare.
Alec came back out with a few things, including rope, two different water flasks and brown bags that each had a sandwich for them. Besides, with the net pay he'd provided the other the other was fairly sure he didnt have to worry that Shun would starve any time soon. This was just for the short trip across town.
"Here." he offered the other his water container and bag, before setting his in the front of the cart, and going to tie the crate down, looking a bit comical as he tossed it over the top of the crate, and had to hop down to properly secure it, and leave enough room for some one to sit in the back. With that done he could actually sit himself down at the carts front. He'd eat on the way, for now he was determining if Shun didn't mind sitting in the back, or up front with him. Either way wouldn't matter much, whatever the other preferred.
"I think thats everything, you ready?" He laughed just a little bit, giving a small shrug.

Shun tilted his head slowly at the horse's action, then tentatively patted her on the head. He soon stepped back and turned once Alec had returned. He was about to go for the rope first to get that taken care of, but was quickly offered some goods.
"Thank you," he quietly spoke, taking the water and sandwich. The man took a quick swig of the liquid, then climbed up onto the wagon by the crate.
"Ready. Let's get this package to its destination," he stated. Sitting against the side of the wagon, he soon began to eat the food he had been provided. The ride itself should be fairly quick, he figured, barring any trouble on the road.

Really he didn't expect the other to do more than he'd asked of him, so when Shun moved as if to help him Alec shot him a grateful smile but soon was tsking at the horse to get her going. "Yeah, we'll get this done and over with and be back before we know it." He agreed, nodding at Shun's statement.
Gently tugging the reigns as the horse pulled and was soon on the way like there wasn't additional weight of any kind. The animal was powerful and kept an easy rhythm. "I should be the one thanking you, your timing was pretty damn good." He added quietly. Fussing with his sandwich he broke off a couple pieces and ate quietly while they rode together.
Thankfully he didn't have to read street signs, and just knew which direction to turn. He knew which streets were cart and horse friendly, that in its self was a small miracle. Soon they were passing into District 14, well on there way to the 16th sector.
"How are you holding up otherwise?" He glanced back at Shun briefly, mostly keeping his eye on the road ahead. Until now, he hadn't spoken with the older man that much. Without the noise of the festival it seemed a little easier instead of needing to rush off and do some crazy task.

With a shrug, Shun ate his sandwich quietly for a time, not speaking up until he had finished eating it.
"It was just a good opportunity for the both of us. You needed help. I needed money," he stated plainly. After taking another drink of water, he set the container down, then looked to the side to watch their surroundings go by as they traveled.
"I'm alive and I'm not ill," came his answer.

"Fair enough." Alec retorted, summarizing his thoughts on the matter. Quick to finish his own food, he was careful with drinking from the water container he'd grabbed for himself. District 14 was longer and required a bit of maneuvering, but with a steady pace they were fast approaching District 16's water canal.
Most of the trip was spent in silence, although it could have been worse he supposed. When they arrived at the delivery location Alec hopped off the wagon making small talk with some one at their boat, and quietly thanking them. He was handed a bag of coin that was quickly placed in pants pocket as to not call attention to the exchange for others not involved in the matter. Eyeing the rope he walked back over to were Shun sat. Trying to fight with the ridiculous knot he'd done he grumbled.
"Makes me wish I'd brought a knife." He muttered, frowning.
The man by his boat looked on, not bothering to lift a finger. The Couriers could do it themselves. He had no intentions of joining in, and simply told them were to place the crate and looked on impatiently.
