So the first thing that got me interested in vitamins and herbs was when I was told by doctors I had cysts in my ovaries. A friend of mine had them as well and her doctor had recommended Vitamin E to shrink them when she refused surgery. It worked for her. Sometimes mine were painful.. after a few months of Vitamin E they had apparently shrunk as I felt no more discomfort. A few years later I got a job at a Smoothie King.. I had to learn all about different vitamins and proteins. Shortly after this I saw a doctor who finally helped me with my stomach problems I've been having about 10 years. He didn't prescribe anything.. he left me with a list of herbs to buy. I have been very hooked on alternative medicine since that. I don't know that alternative is even the right word.. the cures and vitamins I use have been used for centuries.. if anything taking prescriptions to me seems more alternative... and definitely dangerous and costly. I want to share with you guys what I take on a regular basis to help myself.
Vitamin E- For my cysts. It is also an antioxidant with many health benefits.
Astragalus- I take this plant in pill form because it repairs your telomeres. Telomeres protect your dna like the cap on the end of a shoelace. Over time, your telomeres become shorter, and it can cause cancer or death. Astragalus makes your telomeres longer. Astragalus is also good for the immune system and fatigue along with many other benefits.
Calcium- It strengthens your bones but does so much more, like lower your chance of different types of cancer.
Potassium- I take this because my body doesn't get enough potassium. I try and eat bananas too whenever I can. Low potassium can cause aches and pains especially in the legs. It also lowers your chance of hypertension and stroke.
Aloe Vera Juice- Aloe Vera is an antioxidant. I take it specifically for the pain in my muscles. It was recommended to me by a healer.
Everyone should be concerned with their vitamin intake. You should find vitamins tailored to your needs. You can get lots of advice online, or of course from me. I also have a few tools of my own.. a healer as well as a knowledgeable staff at my local health food place.

Glucosamine.. will look into that. I need all the help I can get with my knees, back and legs. for only 26 I'm pretty jacked up. I've worked with too much heavy machinery.. standing on my feet for 12 hours on a concrete floor. Plus I messed up my knee when I was 18 leaning out a drive thru window. I couldn't even walk for like 2 days.. think it was dislocated or something but my doc just told me to put a knee brace on it. He gave me bad advice for like 4 years until I found out he was directly linked to two deaths.. I've had bad luck with doctors. I know caffeine is a great way to help headaches. I'd rather drink caffeine than take aspirin or another harmful pill. Chamomile is great for stomach issues. Peppermint actually gives me heartburn. I remember as a kid that's what the nurse gave me. A peppermint candy. I couldn't do that now.

I'm just curious about this cuz every single time I go to the doctors, they laugh at me.
I get bad bad baaaad acid reflux.
I mean, it sometimes comes out in a projectile gonk
So, when a doctor asks me, "How do you handle that?"
My answer is always, Ice Cream emotion_kirakira
Is this considered...herbal? emotion_facepalm I mean, its from a cow....

Well, herbal would only be herbs. Ice cream really isn't natural either unless you're getting something maybe from a health food store. I suppose it could be alternative in a way as it's not traditional to use ice cream for heartburn. But ice cream is one of the worst foods.. the cold can pause your intestines. It has so much sugar. The vanilla flavoring is typically those beaver secretions I freak out about. xD I know what it is that's relieving your symptoms, I knew before I even looked. It's the milk. Milk can kind of coat your stomach. Also calcium is recommended as a way to treat heartburn. However ironically.. the fat and nutrients in milk cause your body to produce more acid. The way they are putting it on Web MD it seems like milk will make you feel better for the right now, but then later just causes heartburn again. I used to get it bad.. and I feel you on the vomiting. Ugh, actually I did do that just a few weeks ago. I've not had much heartburn lately. I think it's just because I've been eating so well and drinking water. And keeping up on my digestive hormone pills.. maybe tmi but when I don't go every day that's when the heartburn is worse. Web MD suggests a few things, think my favorite is gum. I never knew this. "It may sound strange, but gum stimulates the production of saliva, which is an acid buffer. Plus, chewing gum makes you swallow more often, which pushes those nasty acids back out of your esophagus. Just make sure it's sugar-free so you also protect your teeth." One thing that should have been obvious they pointed out was that getting too full gives you heartburn. I do this at almost every meal. xD It's so hard not to finish my food as it was beat into my head (not literally lol) that I could not leave one speck on my plate.

I know so little about non medicinal treatments emotion_facepalm Suppose I just used ice cream because I like it. The cold was just a happy side effect xd Is Web MD really useful?? I thought mainly hypochondriacs gravitated towards online diagnoses. I'll have to try gum sweatdrop except I can't ever eat anything minty. Sugar free..... gonk The horror

Oh, haha. I think I've mentioned it here before somewhere, but maybe not. It's an ingredient called Castoreum. It comes from a gland near a beavers butthole. Yummy right? Well somehow someone realized it tastes like vanilla. I don't get how this makes more sense than using real vanilla. xD The problem with Castoreum and other sick ingredients like bugs is that technically they are natural. So companies can actually get away with calling it "natural flavor". I try not to eat anything at all that says "natural or artificial flavor". Even if all the ingredients don't make sense, they better freaking put it on there so I can figure out what it is. Web MD.. I find useful for looking things up, but not to diagnose. Every time I try and diagnose a problem Web MD thinks I'm dying. xD They always tell me I need to seek immediate medical attention. xD I think they just do that as a technicality. 4/5 of the Web MD staff are Medical Doctors. So I think it's pretty accurate. I trust it enough for myself. As for sugar free gum, Orbit has bubblemint, cinnamint, tropical, strawberry.. and so much more. I love the bubblemint, I don't think it has a minty taste despite the name. I actually have a hard time believing it's sugar free, haha. It tastes sugary to me.

The only kind of medicine I take is Puritan's PRide Calcium with Vitamin D3. My mom got it for me because bad bones runs in the family. I also sometimes take Natrol Melatonin. It's a fast dissolve that you just sit on your tongue and wait. It helps you sleep. I'm going to have to look into all those others that you said. I have them written down so I can keep track better.

Calcium is very important, especially for women. For some reason our bones are weaker than men. We are more prone to osteoporosis or bone thinning. I am on depo prevera (sp?) birth control which drains calcium, so I need to really not forget to take it. The nurse asks me every single time I get my shot if I've been taking my calcium. I've mostly been to the same place for the past ten years so she really has drilled it in, haha. It's not recommended to be on depo for more than 2 years because of the bone loss and added risk of cancer. But I keep getting it anyway. xD I've been forced off of it before and the doc finally realized I am too forgetful to take the pill. I'd end up taking 2 or 3 at a time all the time (yes strangely they want you to do that when you miss days) and I'd always have to get pregnancy tests and be scared. xD When I miss my vitamins I scold myself, but I'm not at risk of having a baby. xD I'm so not financially or emotionally ready for that, maybe never will be. I have trouble falling asleep at night, so I may try that melatonin. I've heard of it before but never knew they had dissolving strips. I need to try and get all my vitamins in non pill form.. I have so much trouble swallowing them.

It's not a strip. Lol. It's just a pill you sit on your tongue and move around a bit. It tastes great...like strawberry. :3

The greatest thing about a fantasy
Chinese and German Medicine are mostly herbal. My grandmother is 81 years old and her body is stronger than mine, who's 21. She brought me to that clinic one time cause i've been to 3 doctors who couldn't explain my problem.
The doctor at that clinic told me i had Spleen Qi Deficiency. It means there's a lack of energy going through my stomach and pancreas. they injected me with various herbal stuff... they needed a blood sample first though... saying they needed to mix the med in my blood cells then redistribute it in my veins, so that the medicine won't be killed by antibodies.
Anyway, the liquid german meds they gave me burns my tongue and i had to take two-three drops under the tongue before swallowing. i was skeptic about the meds before but i'm surprised that i got better quicker than expected, especially since they gave me acupuncture too... to help the energy circulation.
Since then, i became interested in Herbal medicine. they gave me stuff to avoid eating while i was on medication cause they would contradict the medicine.i wasn't allowed chicken, pork, certain fish, milk, tea, coffee, and chocolate. crying
i was given foods to eat too.... yogurt, enzymes, and natural fiber.
I did get better so it was worth it. Since then, i read the ingredients of everything i eat. @_@
Is the possibility that it could happen. (CSI: Catherine Willows)

Ah, that's so great! It sucks to have restrictions on your diet but yes, so worth it. It's so nice to go to a doc who gives herbal stuff instead of chemicals. Pills that sometimes have worse side effects than what you are treating. xD
