It had not taken long for Rosales to feel at home here in the Flock, indeed, sometimes it felt almost like he was back in the safe folds of his family's gaze. Sadly that was not the case ... but he wasn't going to complain to much because the Flock seemed more then happy to let him pursue what he loved doing. Growing things.
Once he had demonstrated his willingness to behave and his desire to help they had given him a nice little plot of land and some starter seeds to work with. Rosales was still in the process of excavating the entirety of his plot..but the very first seed he had planted were beginning to sprout and he was completely ecstatic about that. If only he had some others to share this momentous occasion with..but the other stallions were busy or not interested and he wouldn't dare to approach the sisters with such a thing quite yet. He didn't know any of them well enough for such things.
Instead Rosales decided to put his joy into further work and he found himself singing quietly as he dug up the grass and turned the soil for further plantings. Once these seeds had grown he would be able to trade the produce and resulting flowers for more seeds..or so he hoped and had gathered from listening to others doing business. Perhaps he would someday be able to acquire some rare and hard to find seeds.

Things were looking up for Lhiannon. Ever since she had brought Rosales into the Flock her outlook on life had improved. Not that she wasn't happy before, but she had felt like a small part of her life had been missing before he had come along. He was her first captured stallion and it was such a great relief and happy occasion to show him to the Flock and let her sisters know what she had accomplished. Unfortunately, to a certain degree, she had gotten busy with her duties shortly after bringing Rosales here and so she had not had the time to check on her capture and make sure he was happy and finding his place in this world. She had spoke with some of the sisters and even some of the stallions who had told her that he was doing well but she wouldn't be satisfied until she could check on him herself.
Today was that opportunity. She had some time off to do with whatever she wished and it didn't take much thought to make the decision to go and check on Rosales. She knew he had been given a spot of land to work with as his desire to grow and work for the Flock had been there all along, and now she would finally get to see what he had done with it and ensure that her first stallion was happy and well taken care of.
She came across his little patch of the Flock territory easily enough and she spotted his bright colored hide as she approached. A smile crossed her lips as she watched him work in the soil. He had done well with what he was given and she could see he still had lots of work to go, but there was progress already. "Hello Rosales." Lhiannon said as she reached the edge of his gardening area. He looked happy and that was good.

Rosales was quite engrossed in his work, his mind focused on what he was doing, so focused in fact that he failed to notice Lhiannon's arrival until she spoke to him. Somewhat abashed at being caught so unawares Rosales gave the mare a sheepish look.
"I'm sorry milady, I didn't hear you coming." He apologized with a slight duck of his head as he stopped what he was doing and turned to face her. "Are you in need of something?" He asked after a few moments, somewhat unsure of how to proceed. Was she here to check up on him..did she need him for something? Perhaps she was just wandering and thought to say hi ... although Rosales was fairly certain the Sisters had far more important things to do with their time then meander about talking to the likes of him. Moving towards her he paid a good deal of attention to where he walked, not wanting to disturb his seedlings.

Lhiannon gave Rosales a soft smile. "It's quite alright Rosale. I did not make my presence known until I spoke. Few would have heard me approach if they were in your position." She didn't want him thinking that he was in trouble. No, it would take more than not noticing the presence of a female to get the males in the Flock in trouble. She took a moment to glance at the area of the garden that showed the most work put into it. For being in the beginning stages it was looking quite well and that gave Lhiannon a sense of pride knowin that the stallion that she brought into the Flock was already making himself useful.
"No, I don't need anything." She reassured him. "I actually came to check on you. I've been so busy as of late I haven't had the chance to check and see how you have been settling in. But by the looks of things I must say it appears you have found your place quiet easily with us." She had known almost immediately upon meeting him that he would work out well for the Flock, but seeing it come to fruition was even better. "This is coming along nicely. What have you planted?" She had a pretty good knowledge of herbs considering her training but she was curious to see what Rosales had planted and to hear him talk about something he was clearly passionate about.

Rosales was glad to hear that she was not annoyed with him for not noticing her earlier - such was the problem with being so wrapped up in ones work and yet another reason that living life by himself outside the flock would likely had ended badly for him. Rosales was practical enough to acknowledge that he might not be the most observant individual , at least when it came to things other then gardening anyways. "Oh, you needn't worry Milady! Everyone has been quite welcoming, as soon as I expressed my interest in gardening they saw me to this nice plot of land and gave me some seeds to start with - nothing to rare or unusual yet but I am hoping to trade for such things once these seeds begin to prosper." Now that she had him talking about gardening Rosales was in his element and he was quick to point out what he had planted so far. "Some mint and Echinacea..some red clover as well, though I have some Garlic bulbs and a few others I haven't planted quite yet." It was hard word getting the land prepared for such things and Rosales was sure he would spend and equal amount of work keeping his plants healthy and strong..but he was willing to put in such work.
"Eventually, once the medicinal and food stores have been planted I would like to venture into some flowers..but those are not as important to the herd so they will come after the rest has already been established." Rosales was sure that he would be able to trade some flowers eventually, many in the herd enjoyed beauty and a rose bush outside ones dwelling would certainly provide such things and then there were the various herd celebrations where manes and tails were often decorated and done up, some flowers woven in would be quite lovely as far as he was concerned.

"I am glad to hear everyone has been so welcoming and helpful to see you get started." And she was. It would have broken her heart if Rosales hadn't have had a smooth transition into the Flock, and had that happened she would have felt completely responsible since she had been the one to bring him in and then practically abandoned him because her duties. But luckily that was not the case, Rosales had clearly found the place where he belonged and had so quickly became part of the Flock that it almost felt like he had been here all along. She looked over the garden as he pointed out which plants he had growing already. The soil was well worked and the plants were placed in a nice organized fashion, so it would not only be easy to harvest but to care for them as well. Yes, he was in his element and it showed. "It is looking wonderful Rosales." She looked at the stallion with a smile. "I am sure everyone is happy with all the work you have put into this, and to think you have only just begun." She could almost see it now, a few months or years from now, he would have a huge lush garden here.
"Some flowers are important, for they are not all used for beauty." She pointed out to him. "There are a few flowers that are used in herbal remedies. You may be able to grow them eventually, they grow in the wild so if you find them at the right time you may be able to harvest the seeds and add them to your garden." She paused for a moment before continuing. "I could even show you which ones are the most useful for the Flock, that way you would know what to add to your garden when you have the space and time." No matter what she planned to set some time aside whenever she could to come check on Rosales and his garden because she could see he was enjoying himself here and the garden had such great potential. "Though I am sure the others will appreciate flowers being grown strictly for beauty purposes as well."

Lhiannon pointed out some good information and Rosales nodded in agreement, certainly some flowers had some well known medicinal or even flavoring uses that the flock would almost certainly enjoy. When she offered to take him out looking for seeds and to show him what the herd was most in need of Rosales felt his eyes light up at the thought - she was so busy and he hated to ask her to spend time on his endeavors, but if it helped the herd then he supposed that was a good enough reason for her to do so.
"That would be most welcome and appreciated." He told her sincerely, he tried very hard to keep the excitement out of his voice as he did so, as much as he wanted to go when the time came he didn't want to make her feel obligated in any way. "I wouldn't mind some roses eventually, rosehips are good for many things and the flowers are quite lovely, the thorny vines could even be trimmed now and them to be used in traps to keep rodents from the gardens and stores, as well as help to acquire meat as it is needed,"

She smiled as he tried to hide his excitement over her taking him to show him the wild flowers that we helpful of the Flock. It was obvious he appreciated her offer but was worried about taking up some of her time. She didn't want him to worry about this though, her free time was hers to do with as she choose, and her choice was to show those flowers to Rosales. "It will be helping me out as well." She told him to help curb some of his worry. "Whenever I have free time I like to go out and collect the flowers and herbs that we use regularly. So we can do that together, that way I get the flowers I need and you can see them and know which ones to grow. There are some similar looking ones to some that do not have any healing properties so I can show you the differences to ensure you grow the correct ones."
She nodded her head as he mentioned growing roses at some point. "I think roses would be a wonderful addition. They are useful in many ways like you say, plus they smell quite divine when the flowers are freshly opened." She cast her gaze over the garden and then back to Rosales. "They would do nicely along the eastern side of the garden." He could plant them wherever he wised but she thought they would look good there, sort of like a living, flowering border.

Upon hearing that taking the time to show him the flowers would be of benefit to her as well Rosales felt a small burden lift off of his shoulders - now he would not feel so guilty if she did decide to take him, he would be learning and helping, a benefit to the herd as a whole. " I can help you carry some back as well...so you will be able to bring back twice as much as normal." He offered. In the Long run this might even save her time, she could dry and store twice as much and thus not have to go back out again quite as soon as normal.
At her suggestion about the roses he turned his head to look upon the eastern boarder. "They would look nice there and it's sunny enough to make them happy." He agreed with a slight bob of his head. He could almost envision the garden in his mind once he was finished, filled with herbs and flowers - eventually even some exotics, it would be glorious and beautiful.

She smiled, happy she could offer him to help him while helping out himself and the herd at the same time. "Exactly. See you would be helping me out in a number of ways by accompanying me out there, and you would also be doing the herd a great service by expanding you knowledge and your garden." Her eyes fell on his little garden patch again, she could just see it come next year being full of all kinds of flowers and herbs that each held their own purpose. Once again she was so glad to have stumbled upon the stallion and given him a place where he could thrive and find his purpose. For her first capture she was done very well, and she could only hope that her future captures would be as beneficial to the Flock as Rosales was.
"Yes, they should get plenty of sun there. And they will help to protect some of the other plants from the wind." It could at times get quite windy and a line of roses would help to keep smaller and more fragile plants from being damaged whenever the wind picked up. Turning her attention back to Rosales she thought about what her next day looked like. She had some things to do in the morning but then her afternoon should be free. "Perhaps we could go gathering herbs and flowers tomorrow afternoon, as long as that does not interrupt any of your work or duties." It would take more than one trip to show Rosales all that he needed to know about the herbs, but it was good to get started now and that way he could get some plants put in his garden and established before winters cold and snow set in.

Rosales had not been in the herd long enough to know all of the weather conditions his garden might face and so he was glad for the knowledgeable advice from those who had lived her longer - such as Lhiannon. "A wind break would likely be a good idea." He agreed, perhaps he would look for some other useful bushes to intermingle and prop up the roses even more.
When she mentioned taking him out as soon as tomorrow Rosales was inwardly ecstatic but, thankfully, managed to contain his excitement and keep from embarrassing himself. "I should be free." He allowed after a few moments of thoughts "I have only to work on my garden at the moment duty wise and I can make up that time later on in the evening - it will be cooler to work some of the more stubborn areas of the land during that time."

"Yes, it will benefit your garden nicely." It would take him time to get it to where it needed to be, but the Flock would be there to guide him in areas he was unsure about and to give a hand when needed. But she knew, could already see, that Rosales would have a very viable garden in the coming months and years.
"Excellent." She gave her head a bob. "When I am done with my morning duties I will seek you out and we will go to gather and increase your knowledge of the useful plants in the area." Having taken up enough of his time and having to get a few things done before the day was done Lhiannon decided it was time to head back. "I must be off, but I look forward to showing you things tomorrow. Goodbye Rosales." With a tip of her head Lhiannon turned and headed towards the main section of the Flock, leaving Rosales to his garden until tomorrow.
