Attacking titans (cardboard cutouts, you scaredy cats) 3DMG theory and practical You are first evaluated on whether or not you have the sense of balance required to use 3DMG. The theory side of the course covers the components and functioning of 3D Maneuvering Gear and a course on what kinds of material can be penetrated by the grapples, optimal firing and grappling angles, theories of motion concerning speed and swing... students often fall asleep around here. Then you begin practical learning: telling how much fuel is left, refueling, adjusting output levels, firing and retracting grapples, and finally the bulk of the class: learning to fly around and make a clean and accurate titan-felling worthy cut with the swords.

July 3DMG testing
It was a truly beautiful day. The sky was a vibrant rich blue, tattered with clouds streaming across it, providing shade from the unyielding sun every once in awhile. What better day than today to start the first week of 3D maneuver gear testing?
Registered trainees were summoned to the field for their first day, the greenhorns lined up and lightly muttering to themselves as their teacher Gazelle stood stoically before them all, arms crossed behind her back. Behind her lay multiple contraptions, suitably dubbed "swings" and used for practicing balancing off the ground. It would aid in one gaining control of their body and weight when airborne, flipping and zipping about on their most useful gear.
Without any sort of prompting, Gazelle begins her speech, voice as monotonous as ever to match her flat demeanor.
"You will each practice using the swings in order to understand how it will feel using your 3D maneuver gear, and adapting to being off the ground. Focus on centering yourself, and controlling both your upper and lower body. While you do not want to be stiff, you will need to find a balance that allows you to react at a moments notice. You may try as many times as you'd like, but please be sure to let everyone have a chance. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to consult with me."
And with that, the trainees are given the go ahead to begin their practice!
Week 1 Guidelines: - To have your character pass this class, all you have to do is simply post a response to this prompt. That's it. You will also have to roll a die. Regardless of the dice roll, so long as you post in the prompt, you pass. The dice is just more for an additional reaction for your character. At the top of your prompt response, please have [ Prompt response ]. Just so it's easier to pick out! - Dice roll: For your response, please be sure to roll 1 die that is 4 sided. If your character is "small or agile" add +1 to your roll. If your character is "big or slow" subtract -1 from your roll. If your character is "average" take your roll as is. Roll results: 1: epic failure 2: why are you hanging sideways 3: only a little wibbly 4: pretty good for your first time - You have an entire week to respond to the prompt. Anything afterwards will not be accepted. - Please make sure that you only post your character if they've signed up for this months 3DMG testing. - You are welcome to rp until the next weeks prompt, and after you've responded to the current prompt. - Feel free to PM me any questions you may have! You have until July 22nd at 11:59PM EDT to respond to this prompt.

[ Prompt Response ] Lenore swallowed as she stepped forward to the "swing", casting a gaze to the azure sky above her before shielding her eyes from the sun's rays. Looking back down, she shook her head clear of negative thoughts. She had to concentrate - that was surely the key to success. Before her, another trainee - one she didn't recognize - was getting strapped in and raised up. He remained motionless for a short moment before giving a short shout and falling forward to land on his face, his dark hair falling to the ground to shield his eyes from the grins and grimaces of his peers. Lenore blinked a few times as he was lowered back down to the ground. She didn't have time to see what he had done wrong despite having been watching as closely as she could, and the girl sighed softly before she took a tentative step forward. As she was strapped into the harness, Lenore mentally compiled all the information she had learned up until this point. As she quickly went over her trials and lessons, a single thought went above everything else. Why are you trying so hard for something you don't even care about? The girl paused. She didn't have an answer. Why was she trying so hard? To not let down the Baldies? To honor her parents' legacy? Outside of learning to read, had she ever tried as hard at something as she had in the military these past few weeks? Searching her memories proved only to add to her confusion. She hadn't ever put in this amount of effort for anything before. Why? She felt the back of her feet lift off the ground, but she didn't really notice the sensation. "Hey, let's be friends!" The words suddenly appeared at the front of all her memories. Friends? Blue pigtails flashed across her thoughts, and the girl's eyes widened as she remembered her first friend. Had she been so caught up in everything to not remember her until now? Her toes lifted off the ground, and the young girl began to wobble slightly as she was raised into the air. That's right - why she hadn't been as disappointed to be conscripted as she should have been, why she'd been so happy during the festival, why she was trying so hard; everything made sense. It was all for her. Eyes flaring slightly, the girl made the resolution to not fail here. Not now. As she was lifted higher and higher, she made her best effort to keep her balance. It was slightly different than riding a horse, but the fundamentals were the same. Focusing harder on keeping her balance, she slowly began to stop wobbling and eventually remained nearly still. A scattered applause broke out amongst some of the other trainees, and it was clear that their spirits were lifted by Lenore's success -- if a small girl like her could do it, so could they.

[Prompt Response]
(( -1 for slowness, ahaha. ))
Upon approaching the 3D maneuver gear training field, the fifteen year old opened her mouth and emitted a sound akin to a toad's croak. A plethora of pyramidal structures fixed with mechanical counterbalances and cables were aligned neatly in the open area. Just by the looks of the simple structures alone did Shakuntala interpret this test to be difficult. When it came to tackling something with confidence or even optimism in the face of adversity, even she had her self-doubts.
Unsure of what to do or why she should do it, the girl slipped into the role of an nearby onlooker, and angled her head in a concentrated tilt. One of the girls -- a familiar face she had spotted at the training grounds just a moment before -- broke air with an interjection. She wanted to take the test? Shakuntala folded her arms across her chest. She would see how it was done first before she decided take the chance and act on orders. Making a fool of herself was the least of her worries; getting wounded was suddenly in the forefront of her mind. When the girl had successfully passed her test, the skittish girl wondered who would be next.
Shakuntala's eyes widened as a set of cables were tossed her away. She stretched out her hands to catch them and juggled the metallic clips in both of her hands before settling straight after successfully not dropping them. Chagrining, she looked to the instructor with a face that read, "Please don't make me do this," but the older female was likely not paying her any attention.
Doing as she was told, Shakuntala searched out the area where the cables were to be secured. With shaky hands, she tethered herself to the contraption and tentatively strode forward under it. Swallowing, she awaited for the inevitable of a finger tapping the button and sending her to her doom. Probably.
Gravity was against her. As the cables to the piece of machinery began to tighten, Shakuntala's nervousness was getting the better of her. When the cables went taut, the girl wobbled. All of the deep breaths in the world wasn't going to save her. Suddenly, as the girl raised her arms to try and shift her weight evenly to either side of her hip, she teetered backward.
Crack!
The back of Shakuntala's head came into contact with the ground. As the world spun, the cables loosened, and her body fell. For a moment, the seventeen year old remained as a crumpled pile of ouch to the dusty floor. Tears began to pool in her eyes from the recent pain and the none-too-elegant drop. Squeezing her eyes shut, Shakuntala ripped the hooks off and fled to the back of the group. Today just wasn't her day.

[Prompt Response] +1 agility.. not that it was needed.
It was finally time for the meat of training to begin. Shun had been looking forward to learning how to use the 3dmg, and was determined to work hard to make sure he had things down. Knowing how to use it properly was going to be critical for his survival later on. He watched as two others went on before him. Lenore seemed to do pretty well with the balance test.
Shakuntala on the other hand...
Well, that didn't look too good. He rolled his shoulder, awaiting his turn. Once he was able to go up, he approached and got strapped in. It was kind of strange, being suspended like that. He kept the instructor's words in mind as he shifted his weight accordingly to keep himself upright. He managed to keep fairly stationary; there weren't really any moments where he seemed like he was going to topple over or anything like that. There, he remained for some time, getting the hang of it while he had the chance. Being in motion was going to be something else, but here he could at least get a sort of taste of what it might be like. Once his turn was up, he was let down, where he moved towards the back so that he could observe the rest as they performed the same exercise.

[Prompt Response] +1 Agility...lol comical effect at its best
Usage of the 3dmg gear was easily one of his favorite parts of this entire learning process as the days had marched on. He wanted nothing more than to master the art. Between his jittery nerves, and the while mostly success of those who had come before him he wasn't exactly feeling confident. Least of all being before all his fellow trainees. He'd have to suck it up he quickly reasoned, a matter of now or never.
Seeing as he was up next, Alec moved forward, putting on his best look of determination. It hadn't helped seeing Tala crack her skull on the ground. He cast he a look of concern, but didn't have time to say anything right then. Lenore and Shun had done well..perhaps he'd find himself a natural as well. Second guessing himself he swallowed nervously but his attention was redirected. He had to get fastened in, or risk holding up the line.
Taking the offered cables to secure himself properly hearing the little click noise. Standing under the device, he waited exhaling his slowly. Being lifted off the ground initially made him tense up, locking his hips incorrectly and turning onto his side. Blinking he realized he was momentarily hanging sideways. Seeing everyone from this angle he grunted in frustration relaxing himself, adjusting his arms so they were out and righting himself. While his balance was a little wobbly, he certainly was staying upright, a huge grin on the teens face. Adjusting slightly, with a bit of a wobble here and there, the mechanism at last lowered him to the ground his turn up, and heading to the back of the line, up on his tip toes to see who might be up next.

[Prompt Response]
Farvardin showed up a few minutes late and thus missed most of what their instructor had said. She watched as a few others tried the swings. She wasn't sure how well she would do on them but she thought she had some semblance of balance and could do it.
When one of the swings opened up she stepped forward. She tried not to think of those who had fallen and cracked their skulls on the ground. She tried to think of what those who had succeeded had done. She was so focused on thinking that she missed the click of the straps being hooked up. Suddenly she was hoisted up causing her eyes to grow wide. "WHOA!!" She yelped flailing. She ended up flipping backwards with her arms pinwheeling.
A load crack was heard as her head hit the ground. A silence fell about the field as the rest of her was lowered to the ground. "Owwwww....." She muttered while sitting up and rubbing her head. She slowly got up and walked to the back of the crowd. She would try again later after the others got a turn.

Once Farvardin joined them back in line he looked between the taller woman, and Shakuntala. Both of them had a rough start to their working with balancing. "Hey Tala, heya Farvardin..are either of you alright?" He asked of his fellow trainees offering either female a reassuring look. It had to be a bit discouraging but he was sure they'd get the hang of it with a bit of practice..and perhaps a healthy dose of assurance and pep talking. Luckily their instructor for the day was mild mannered, and didn't seem to mind the gentle chatter, so long as they kept the line moving.

Experimentally, Shakuntala reached a hand up and tested the area of impact on the back of her head. The slight touch caused her to flinch and muffle a whimper. It hurts so, so much! My skull is throbbing! Squeezing her eyes shut, she remained unaware of Alec's approach until he spoke. To not bring worry to herself, her eyes snapped open and she offered her friend a gentle (and forced) smile.
"I-I'm... fine," she reassured him. "Just, um, j-just taking a... breather. I'm... I'm gonna try again s-soon..."
Despite her reservations of doing so again, watching others succeed where she had failed certainly made her feel left behind. Her determination was fluctuating at this point, but she rose and walked passed Alec to join the line again with a muttered, "W-Wish me... Wish me luck."
What's luck and where could Shakuntala find some? Her second attempt was as bad as her first. As soon as she was harnessed in and cranked upward, she lost her premature balance and suddenly hung upside-down like a twisted tree branch torn asunder by the wind. Flailing her arms and rocking herself obviously came to no avail, so one of the instructors let her down slowly, and seemed to shake their head at her pitiful try. By the looks of it, her strength was more suited on a horse on the ground than in the air.
(( -1 for slowness as well. ))

Alec could see it in her reaction, she wasn't being entirely honest and seemed flustered to say the least. He listened to her soft stuttered assurance, and he nodded to her. "You will get it...It's weird if you stiffen your hips, I nearly took a face dive myself at first. Good luck Tala!" He called to his friend, watching the girl head up. While all the high hopes in the world could only carry one so far, at least this time she hadn't hit her head. Upside down certainly wasn't much better, and she had to be lowered back to the ground. He was up to try again, once he was secured and off the ground he again found himself looking rather silly hanging side ways. This time he really had nearly screwed up, over compensating from over thinking the process. Alec was suddenly teetering dangerously, extremely close to hitting his face on the ground. Instead, at the last moment he at least was able to manage to at least keep himself up side ways. He looked less than pleased with his efforts, but glad he at least hadn't completely messed up...waving his hands unsuccessfully to right himself and laughing off his misfortune. Alec wasn't ready nor willing to admit defeat, he really did need work on centering himself and rocking with the harness and its straps and the way they supported him. Giving a huff he was lowered to the ground rejoining the back of the line. (( rofl... +1 for agility at least saves it :U))

+1 for smallness/agility Preacher let out a strangled laugh as people's skulls connected with the ground or they flipped upside down. It looked painful, but mainly vaguely humiliating. She wasn't particularily worried about that aspect; very little embarrassed her now - a by-product of her upbringing. Still, there was a lingering sense of unease. What if the military expelled for for anything less than excellence? Preacher had absolutley nowhere left to go. The instuctor beckoned her up. Squashing her fears ruthlessly, Preacher swung herself into the harness. She was clipped in and suddenly lifted. Surprisingingly, it was fairly easy to keep her balances, and she resisted the urge to start swinging. It was a little wobbly, but much better than most of the others. A smile snaked across her face. She could do this!

[ Prompt response ]
-1 for being a tall boi.
Mykanos had been waiting for this day... finally, it was time to take on learning a new skill that he'd never had the chance to even prepare for. Sure he'd been there for the in class lectures about the theories and explanations about how 3DMG works, but... this was the real deal. He was more of a hands on kind of guy, anyway. He stood there, stoically, patiently listening to their instructor as she gave them the low down, as well as the go ahead to begin their practice.
Even then, he still waited. He allowed others to go ahead of him, taking his time to fall into a line that built up before one of the swings. One by one each trainee took their shot, some doing better than others, with mixed reviews all across the board. However he was noticing a bit of a trend... it seemed those who were a bit on the bigger side, either wide or tall wise, needed a little more control to keep balanced.
Finally, it was his turn. Stepping up to the contraption, he clipped on the hooks, and gave the go ahead for the ropes to be pulled up. When his feet were no longer on the ground, he could instantly feel gravity pulling hard at him. He wobbled, arms stretched out, his usually composed demeanor betraying him by the way his body was struggling to stay upright. Tightening his core in hopes of helping with the situation didn't help at all, and he ended up falling fully forward, his face planting to the ground, rear up in the air. A few snickers could be heard from his comrades, Mykanos sighing softly with mild embarrassment, but more so frustration. His height was going to be something he'd need to work with if he was to get this done right.

[Prompt Response]
((-1 for being big and slow))
This was perhaps the class Axel looked forward to least. It seemed all too likely that it would put a premature end to his military career altogether. Axel had never dreamed of flying around, flipping off walls and so forth. He winced as Tala cracked her head against the ground, resisting the impulse to rush over to her aid. This was a test they would all have to pass, and there would be no helping one another. Some of the others did better, but it still wasn't terribly encouraging.
When it was his turn Axel took his time fiddling with the clips, hoping to somehow delay the inevitable. It was risky to annoy instructors, though, and so Axel reluctantly stepped into the training contraption. Cables went taut, hauling him up. Too far up. He was too far off the ground. Too high. This was terrible. It was worse than riding a horse. He was perfectly balanced for a beautiful, shining moment, although this was mostly due to sheer paralyzing terror.
He shifted slightly and abruptly flipped over backwards, cracking his head against the ground just like Tala before him. Everything went foggy in a wash of gray. Okay, so he hadn't actually been that far up. It was still too far. The cables went slack and Axel lay there dazed for a moment, tangled up in ropes and seeing stars. Then he climbed stiffly to his feet and retreated back into the crowd of trainees. He would have to try again or be kicked out, but he needed some time to lick his wounds and gather up the shreds of his dignity before another attempt.

Farvardin looked over when she heard Alec talking to her. "Huh? Oh yeah... I'm fine..." She trailed off while rubbing the back of her head. It hurt some.... okay it hurt pretty bad but judging from how the other girl was acting before Alec spoke to her it wasn't as bad as Tala's bump. "Yep I'm fine. I'll try again in a minute. Gotta let some others go." Shortly after that Tala and Alec both tried again. They didn't do so good as were some others. It was her turn again and she stepped up with no hint of hesitation. She strapped herself in and gave a sharp nod. Then she was lifted up and quickly began to wobble. She didn't throw her arms out like last time as she was expecting it. Instead she raised them from her sides slightly and adjusted her balance. There was no flipping this time and she remained upright. Sure she wobbled slightly from time to time but she didn't bash her head against the ground again. Soon she was lowered down and she rushed off to the back and grinned at Alec. "I did it! You were right. Don't go stiff and don't flail about and you're good!" She all but yelled at her friend in her excitement.
