The mornings first rays found Raken busily preparing for his next trek out. Three of the four items had been found, but he had saved the hardest for last. He knew no Naiad's. He didn't even know anything about them. It was entirely possible that he had never so much as spoken to a Naiad before. So figuring out what they would want to trade for a cup was beyond him. In his sack he threw just about everything and anything; meat, jewels he found, books (though it's not like they could take it underwater with them), a hand mirror from HQ, a hand carved stone comb, a few figurines, even Dyas' old plush naiad toy. By the time he was finished his pack was heavy which would slow his already long journey. But his return trip would undoubtedly be lighter, one from him using food from it and hopefully because of a successful trade. He shouldered the pack and peeked into Azure and Dyas' room where they slept before smiling lightly. It was worth the effort. For family. Step by step, he began the journey out.

Time started slipping by since the day Nereus discovered all her tasty oysters magically disappeared and her beautiful home ransacked. She suspected a jealous neighbor saw her take them home and stole them. But silly them forgot her shiny pearl.
Which soon doubled in size. Much to her glee.
Then turned yellow. Not quite so much excitement there.
Which brought her to that moment, staring at the large yellow pearl in her hands that was starting to shake. It was becoming apparent that the 'pearl' she found in that special lake was more than what she bargained for. A crack ripped through the side, causing her to jump and let go of the orb. Instantly she dove forward to catch the object, cursing under her breath meanwhile. What was she going to do? Did taking it from the lake break it? Should she take it back?
Another crack. "Oh no, oh no, oh no. I'm sorry little pearl! I broke you!" Did she have something sticky to put it back together? She started darting around her little home, the orb still in her arms as she looked on all her shelves. "Oh nooooo! You were my greatest treasure!"
Crack! At the louder snap she froze in place, her emerald eyes slowly looking down at the pearl. A hand stuck clean out of it. "Oh...my...seashells. Glory to the Queen, you're an egg." As the egg shook it suddenly split in half to have the pieces fall away, revealing a small, bright eyed baby.

Instantly the babe started crying, prompting Nereus to quickly hold it against her body in comfort. "Shhh...shhh...shhh...There, there." She had a baby, in her arms. Right then. Who would possibly believe her story that it came from an oyster? The naiad looked down onto her yellow head. A baby...her baby now. It was strange, all these years she wanted a companion...and now...now...
"I guess you'll need a name...I'll call you Aysel." The female whispered as the cries softened. She slowly closed her emerald eyes. "And you are my Greatest Treasure."~~~~~~~~~~ Two Birds with One Stone ~~~~~~~~~~~

From his jungle home in Loka Nei forest to the Cha'en Beach it was easily a two day trek. Throw on his heavy pack and suddenly it became three as flying proved difficult with it. But it was a path Raken knew well after living on the island for years. He had traversed nearly everywhere, multiple times. Even Dragnid once or twice before the island fell, to visit his sister Amara. He truly hoped she no longer resided there, else she really would become evil.
He passed the time with simple mind games and light training, materializing easy shadow animals and putting them through maneuvers. Working his old power was like using a muscle that hadn't moved in years - it was a long process to get back to how he was before he lost it. It was his hope that by the time he got back he'd improve his materialization time by a whole minute. That was the goal which kept him focused.
With such things passing the time, the trip was almost...nice for the male. Gave him some self time he had been missing with a cloud of family around him at all times in the cave. But everything must end, and he eventually found himself on the shore of his destination. Cha'en Beach. And wouldn't you know it, there was a naiad, right there! He quickly headed over to her.
Nereus didn't know...anything of anything about child raising. But the little girl for what ever reason, really seemed to enjoy the outside even though she obviously dried up just like a typical naiad. So she spent their days playing on the shoreline as it let the babe out in the air, but allowed the water to lap up and keep her moist. "One...two...peekaboo!" The adult chimed as she opened her hands over her face.
Aysel squealed in delight, wiggling around. Her mom was so funny! But it was terrifying whenever she disappeared. How did she do that-OH! She did it again!
She clasped her hands over her face again. "One...two...peekaboo!" Opened her hands again to more bright laughter. She loved this game. "You are just so adorable, you know..." Suddenly Nereus cut off as movement caught her eye. A...A DEMON! The female snatched her baby into her arms and instantly started to slink back. Normally she wasn't so...unfriendly with the other races. But a warning had just been posted about them, and Aysel was far too fragile to be risked. "I'm not interested. You can just turn around."
She noticed him! The male flashed what he hoped was a welcoming smile, though it admittedly faded a bit when the fish pae recoiled in absolute terror. Probably because he was the smart lad who decided to approach a pae with a newborn. Great start, immediately putting the naiad on defensive. "Not interested? I haven't even said a word yet."
"But I know why you're here! As soon as you saw me you headed straight over and you have a gigantic pack on your back. You are not getting my shell cup!"
A deep sigh slipped through his lips. Guardians! First the Faun were warned and now the Naiad's too? It wasn't making his life very easy. "You...are right. But I assure you I have something worth your trouble. Items of far more value than a simple cup." The male slowly began unshouldering his pack.
Valuable? She couldn't help but perk up, as she did have a love for all things shiny. "Like...what?"
Success! She was listening to him. "Well, a lot. Mirrors, furs, statues, jewelry." He opened the pack to show the contents within to her. A touch awkward considering she was a dozen feet away, but he didn't want to get in the water and she was making no move to come out.
There WAS shiny things in there. The female started to unconsciously swim a little closer, when suddenly the bundle in her arms gave a wiggle. She froze, looking down. If she gave away her cup...she wouldn't be able to go outside with Aysel. Her little babe wouldn't be able to go beyond the shoreline until she got her own cup, much later from then. "...No. I don't want any of it." For once in her life she was going to put someone else's desires above her own. Nereus started to slip back into the water. "I'm sorry, but I'm not interested. Find another naiad." With a flick of the tail, she dove back under the water.
It was working, she was interested! The female was - wait! "But I'm sure I have something!" She was already gone. "Well...that went well." He spoke dryly under his breath, flopping down to sit. Attempt number one was failure...but he was determined not to leave the beach without a cup. He just had to wait for another Naiad to swim by.
OOC: Slight change of plan! ^_^

This new world was still so strange and unfamiliar for Lysanthus. After he had spent a while in the small ocean surrounded by land, it was time for him to return to the more open waters that he was used to. Lys still wanted to stay close to this new... should he even call it a home. This is where his people seemed to gather, and he was still so intrigued that there were others that looked like him. The lake where most of them seemed to gather was enticing, but it was difficult to be enclosed like that. Lysanthus was returning back to the shores from a short hunt out in the deeper waters. He poked his head out of the waters cautiously, all of his life taught him to be mindful of dangers. It seemed mostly quiet as his green eyes scanned the shoreline. The male relaxed and turned so that he was floating on his tummy, resting his head on hands, his elbows snug in the sand. Lys could see beautifully colored birds flitting in the trees just up the way. There was something relaxing about laying out here in the shallow water, a different style of life then the one he had grown up with. Lys broke out some of the fish he had gathered and began eating, unconcerned about the fact that it was raw.

After his failed attempt with the green naiad, the male sighed and slugged his sack over a shoulder. Now he had to track down another one. And he had been so close too! He took a deep breath and continued down the shoreline, scanning the waters for another head to pop up. Naiad...naiad...naiad...hmmm... And then he saw it. A red head, finned pae enjoying the shallow water. A smile touched his face before he composed himself. This time, no mistakes. "Hello! My name is Raken, please don't swim away!" He almost scared away the last one. Hopefully announcing himself before hand would help.

Lysanthus' head quickly dropped, so that his eyes were just level with the water. He had recognized the greeting word, but the rest had been spoken so quickly that he was unable to pull any meaning from them. Lysanthus was not so easily scared, so he didn't run away immediately. This creature was like him and not like him at the same time. It had some resemblance to what he would look like if he stepped out of the water right now, yet the fins the other pae had were very unusual. "Hel-lo" Lys responded as he lifted his head from the water. His voice sounded uncertain with the word he had spoken.

As the naiad sunk into the water, he feared he scared him off too. Thankfully though, he didn't run. The demonic slowly, cautiously approached the other, making no sudden movements. "yes, hello. I'm sorry to bother you, but I need help. I have siblings, children, nieces and nephews. I need something of yours to protect them." maybe if he showed his genuine need for the item, the other would be more likely to give his cup. Perhaps if he started with that the yellow naiad would have traded.

Lysanthus gave the other a puzzled look. His language skills were only so far along and he had understood perhaps 3 of the words that had been spoke at best. "Talk... slow... Sorry?" The words were slow as the naiad had to search his brain for each one. Lys frowned, it was all so frustrating for him when these pae spoke to him and he could hardly understand. And then it was difficult for him to communicate that he didn't communicate.

A pause as the male stared at each other, before the naiad cranked out a broken response. The other naiad understood him quite well...what was this pae's problem? He started to frown before quickly replacing it with a smile. He needed the others help. It was hardly the time to judge. "I...need...your...cup." The demonic slowed down as he moved his hands with each word. For the 'I' he placed his hand over his chest, then pointed to the other for 'your' before cupping his hands together as a cup. "My...family." He touched his chest again before making a circle in the air for 'family'. "Is...in..." He paused thoughtfully about how to convey his next word. Slowly he brought his hands up in a clawing motion. "Danger."

Lysanthus watched the gestures that the pae with large fins protruding from his back. They probably went with the words he was saying. He thought for the most part he was understanding the male. At least until he got to 'family'. It wasn't as if Lys had a family where he could even relate the strange gesture that was made to accompany the word. 'Danger' was something that Lys could understand though. "Dan-ger? Lys help." He agreed, bringing his chest out of the water just enough that he could pound his fist against it in a display of might. Lysanthus exposed his crudely made spear to the other. "Cup."

For a moment Raken thought he was getting somewhere. The naiad agreed to help after all. At least, that's what he thought the other meant though referring to himself in the third person was odd. "Thanks Lys." Hopefully Lys really was his name. But then the other brought out his spear instead of a cup. Communication breakdown. Quickly thinking, Raken put down his pack and rummaged through it before pulling out one of his animal bladders that held water. "Cup." The demonic tried again before tilting it. "Water...in it." Opening the top he let some crystalline water pour out to the ground below. Obviously he didn't have an actual cup as he simply drank straight from the bladder. It was as close as he had.

As Lysanthus watched Raken again, his face twisted with confusion until finally his eyes widened in understanding. Cup had been a word that was used a lot when he was preparing for the strange ritual he went through. "Cup..." Lysanthus turned around, digging through a satchel. When he turned back around he had the very cup that Raken sought in his hand. "Cup?" Lys asked. But it made no sense to him, maybe he was confused about the word 'danger' but he didn't think a cup would be very helpful for that. Lys supposed you could chuck it at something in a pinch, but a spear was so much more... to the point.

He waited patiently as the other dug into his satchel, practically holding his breath. "Yes! That's it!" Raken spoke as he held a thumbs up. It was actually more of a shell now that he saw it, but he assumed it wouldn't look like an ordinary cup. "Give...cup...to...me?" He pointed at the cup then to himself. "Danger." The demonic reminded again. There were a lot of intricacies that he wasn't able to convey, but he simply had to make do with the hand he was dealt.

Lysanthus now sat in the water, a cup in one hand and a spear in the other. The other male seemed excited about him bringing the cup out. This made Lys think that the other pae just didn't realize how good a spear was for danger. "Dan...ger." Lysanthus repeated, shaking the spear, trying to put the emphasis on it. Lys jabbed it at the air a few times to show its effectiveness. The naiad wasn't sure how he felt about giving up either object, they were both vital to him.

As the naiad shook his spear again, Raken sighed deeply. Perhaps he should try again with a different naiad. One that could speak properly. Maybe the green naiad would change her mind and come back...
One more try. He shook his head after Lys shook his spear. "Cup!" The demonic insisted, shaking his container again. How to show the cup was better against danger than a spear? Out of context, it was a strange thing to think. "Cup...magic." With that he focused on rolling a ball in his mind of shadows. The darkness around him slipped towards him on the beach to ripple at his feet. Since he did not mold it into a creature yet, the shadows simply writhed beside him. "Magic." He let the shadows go. Instantly they vanished from beside him to slip back to their respective place. "Cup has magic." He proceeded to pull his bag around to open it up and show the wares inside. "Trade?" Cursed naiad probably didn't even know what trade meant. Did he get stuck with the one pae on the island who couldn't talk? He didn't even have this much difficulty with his mute daughter!
